The effect of annealing of Ti foils before anodization on the morphology and electrochemical performance of resultant nanoporous anatase TiO2 （np-TiO2） as anode in rechargeable lithium-ion batteries （LIBs） was investigated. The np-TiO2 anode fabricated from annealed Ti foils exhibited higher specific surface area and reduced pore diameter compared to np-TiO2 electrode fabricated from as-received Ti foils. The highly porous np-TiO2 anode fabricated from annealed Ti foils exhibited 1st discharge capacity of 453.25 mAh/g and reduced to 172.70 mAh/g at 1 C current rate after 300 cycles; whilst the np-TiO2 electrode fabricated from the as-received Ti foils exhibited 1st discharge capacity of 213.30 mAh/g and reduced to 160.0 mAh/g at 1 C current rate after 300cycles. Even after 400cycles, such np-TiO2 electrode exhibited a reversible capacity of 125.0 mAh/g at 2.5 C current rate. Compared to the untreated Ti foils, the enhanced electro- chemical performance of np-TiO2 anode fabricated from annealed Ti foils was ascribed to the annealing- induced removal of residual stress among the Ti atoms. The benefit of annealing process can reduce pore size of as-fabricated np-TiO2.

Aquaculture species diversification in China

This paper proposes a new polishing method using Magnetic Compound Fluid (MCF) polishing tools produced by semi-solidifying an MCF containing abrasive particles under compression pressure while a magnetic field is applied. MCF is a mixture of a kerosene-based MF (Magnetic Fluid) containing 10nm-size magnetite (Fe3O4), micro-size iron (Fe) powder and a-cellulose fiber;hence, it reacts to an applied magnetic field. Following the microscopic observation of MCF polishing tools prepared at different compositions, their shear strengths and fundamental performances in constant-contact-force polishing were investigated experimentally. The results indicated that the composition of the new polishing tool determines its shear strength and that tools having greater shear strength show a greater ability in metal-surface finishing.

Dear Editor,Electric vehicle(EV)sales have significantly grown over the years to fulfill growing demands for economic travel and greenhouse gas mitigation.1 However,the surge in the number of EVs has led to charging anxiety as users struggle to find an available charging station before running out of electricity,resulting in longer reserve and waiting times.2 Moreover,severe mobility restrictions caused by infectious diseases,such as coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),have greatly affected people’s travel behavior3,4 and hindered their willingness to use EVs,given that charging in public spaces consumes time and increases the risk of contracting the virus.5 This implies that in the postpandemic era,in which individuals coexist with the virus,the interplay between the two important trends,namely vehicle electrification and mobility restrictions,can extensively affect people’s daily commuting by using EVs.

Algal polysaccharides are an essential active substance in food nutrition and even pharmaceutical activity research due to wide sources， low toxicity， and no side effects. In our previous research， we identified the chemical structure and studied the immunomodulatory mechanism of the polysaccharide CRVP from edible green algae Caulerpa racemosa var. peltata. In this study， we further investigated the cytotoxicity and potential mechanism of CRVP against Hepa1-6 cells. Metabolomics analysis showed that CRVP might affect glutathione metabolism-related pathways. CRVP significantly up-regulated oxidized glutathione （GSSG） and down-regulated reduced glutathione （GSH） in Hepa1-6 cells， increasing the ratio of GSSG to GSH and intracellular reactive oxygen species. The potential anti-liver cancer mechanism is that CRVP may affect redox homeostasis and lead to apoptosis by inhibiting glutathione reductase or System Xc-. Based on the known immunomodulatory mechanism of CRVP， this study can provide a material basis for adjuvant therapeutic nutritional agents with immune-enhancing anti-cancer activity.

Four metallated conjugated oligothiophenes, S-1, S-2, S-3 and S-4, with platinum（II） aryleneethynylenes as the electron-rich building block were synthesized to investigate their physicochemical and photovoltaic properties. These small molecules possess fairly low-lying HOMO energy levels which match with the LUMO energy level of the electron acceptor PC70BM （[6,6]-phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester）. Using the simple process of spin-coating solution fabrication technique, S-I：PC70BM （1：4, w/w） based organic solar cells exhibiting a high Voc of 0.913 V, with a PCE value of 0.88% were developed. In contrast, the OSC device based on S-2：PC70BM （3：7, w/w） displayed a higher PCE of 1.59% with a higher Jsc value of 5.89 mA cm^-2. The device based on S-4：PCToBM （1：4, w/w） exhibited a PCE value of 1.56%, with a Voc of 0.917 V.

Background:Olfactory dysfunction(OD)is a common symptom of Corona Virus Disease 2019(COVID-19).It is defined as the reduced or distorted ability to smell during sniffing(orthonasal olfaction)and represents one of the early symptoms in the clinical course of COVID-19 infection.A large online questionnaire-based survey has shown that some post-COVID-19 patients had no improvement 1 month after discharge from the ***:To explore the efficacy of acupuncture for OD in COVID-19 infected patients and to determine whether acupuncture could have benefits over sham acupuncture for OD in post-COVID-19 ***:This is a single-blind,randomized controlled,cross-over *** plan to recruit 40 post-COVID-19 patients with smell loss or smell distortions lasting for more than 1 *** patients will be randomly allocated to the intervention group(real acupuncture)or the control group(sham acupuncture)at a 1:1 *** patient will receive 8 sessions of treatment over 4 weeks(Cycle 1)and a 2-week *** the follow-up,the control group will be subjected to real acupuncture for another 4 weeks(Cycle 2),and the real acupuncture group will undergo the 4-week sham *** primary outcomes will be the score changes on the questionnaire of olfactory functioning and olfaction-related quality of life at week 6,8,12,and 14 from the *** secondary outcomes will be the changes in the olfactory test score at week 6 and 12 from the baseline measured by using the Traditional Chinese version of the University of Pennsylvania Smell Identification Test(UPSIT-TC).Discussion:The results of this trial will help to determine the effectiveness of acupuncture for OD in post-COVID-19 *** may provide a new treatment option for patients.

Forecasting wind structure of tropical cyclone(TC)is vital in assessment of impact due to high winds using Numerical Weather Prediction(NWP)*** usual verification technique on TC wind structure forecasts are based on grid-to-grid comparisons between forecast field and the actual ***,precision of traditional verification measures is easily affected by small scale errors and thus cannot well discriminate the accuracy or effectiveness of NWP model *** this study,the Method for Object-Based Diagnostic Evaluation(MODE),which has been widely adopted in verifying precipitation fields,is utilized in TC’s wind field verification for the first *** TC wind field forecast of deterministic NWP model and Ensemble Prediction System(EPS)of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts(ECMWF)over the western North Pacific and the South China Sea in 2020 were evaluated.A MODE score of 0.5 is used as a threshold value to represent a skillful(or good)*** is found that the R34(radius of 34 knots)wind field structure forecasts within 72 h are good regardless of DET or *** performance of R50 and R64 is slightly worse but the R50 forecasts within 48 h remain good,with MODE exceeded *** R64forecast within 48 h are worth for reference as well with MODE of around *** study states that the TC wind field structure forecast by ECMWF is skillful for TCs over the western North Pacific and the South China Sea.

With modern infrastructures and effective warning systems,casualties,damages and losses due to tropicalcyclones(TCs)have been significantly reduced over the years in Hong ***,densely populated coastal cities like Hong Kong will need to continuously enhance its resilience to high winds,heavy rain and storm surges brought by TCs,especially with the growing concern of the challenges induced by climate change and sea level *** embracing the advance of remote sensing,communication and numerical modelling technology,the Hong Kong Observatory(HKO)continues to improve its TC monitoring and forecasting techniques as well as forecasting and warning services to meet the needs of the *** paper concisely reviews the major development and achievement of TC-related operation and services of HKO in recent decades,in aspects such as Numerical Weather Prediction(NWP)models,nowcasting techniques,warning communication and public *** thrusts on TC forecasting and warning services of HKO will also be discussed.

AIM: To investigate the inhibitory efficacy of 125I-labeled anti-basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) monoclonal antibody (mAb) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).METHODS: bFGF mAb was prepared by using the 1G9B9 hybridoma cell line with hybridization technology and extracted from ascites fluid through a Protein G Sepharose affinity column. After labeling with 125I through the chloramine-T method, bFGF mAb was further purified by a Sephadex G-25 column. Gamma radiation counter GC-1200 detected radioactivity of 125I-bFGF mAb. The murine H22 HCC xenograft model was established and randomized to interventions with control (phosphate-buffered saline), 125I-bFGF mAb, 125I plus bFGF mAb, bFGF mAb, or 125I. The ratios of tumor inhibition were then calculated. Expression of bFGF, fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR), platelet-derived growth factor, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) mRNA was determined by quantitative reverse transcriptase real-time polymerase chain ***: The purified bFGF mAb solution was 8.145 mg/mL with a titer of 1:2560000 and was stored at -20 °C. After coupling, 125I-bFGF mAb was used at a 1: 1280000 dilution, stored at 4 °C, and its specific radioactivity was 37 MBq/mg. The corresponding tumor weight in the control, 125I, bFGF mAb, 125I plus bFGF mAb, and 125I-bFGF mAb groups was 1.88 ± 0.25, 1.625 ± 0.21, 1.5 ± 0.18, 1.41 ± 0.16, and 0.98 ± 0.11 g, respectively. The tumor inhibition ratio in the 125I, bFGF mAb, 125I plus bFGF mAb, and 125I-bFGF mAb groups was 13.6%, 20.2%, 25.1%, and 47.9%, respectively. Growth of HCC xenografts was inhibited significantly more in the 125I-bFGF mAb group than in the other groups (P 125I-bFGF mAb group
