Nurse-led group cognitive behavioral therapy for major depressive disorder among adults in Japan: A preliminary single-group study

Objectives:The prevalence and burden of disease of depression necessitates effective and accessible treatment options *** April 2016,Japanese national health insurance has covered nurseadministered cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT)for mood ***,empirical support for nurse-led CBT for depression in Asian countries,especially in Japan,is still *** preliminary study aimed to examine the feasibility and acceptability of nurse-led group CBT for Japanese patients with ***:In this single-arm study,we evaluated the effects of a 6-week group CBT,led by trained nurses,on patients with major *** primary outcome was the Beck Depression Inventory-Ⅱ(BDI-Ⅱ).Assessments were conducted at the beginning and end of the ***:Of 25 participants screened,23 were eligible for the study(of these,three dropped out during the trial but were included in the analysis).Nurse-led group CBT led to significant improvements in the severity of depression(BDI-Ⅱ,P<0.001).The mean total BDI-Ⅱscore improved from 23.1(SD=7.56)to 12.4(SD=8.57),and the pre-to post-effect size was large(Cohen's d=1.33).After CBT,45%of the participants were judged to be treatment responders,and 34%met the remission ***:Our preliminary findings indicate that 6 weeks of nurse-led group CBT produced a favorable treatment outcome for individuals with major depression in a Japanese clinical *** results of this study might encourage more Asian nurses to provide CBT as a part of their nursing *** controlled trials that address the limitations of this study are required.

Background: The aim of this study was to clarify the degree of information provision to children with brain tumors, factors influencing this provision, and the relationship between this provision and psychosocial consequences. Methods: A total of 157 parents completed a questionnaire on the degree of information provision to their children and sociodemographic and medical characteristics. Parents and their children completed subscales of the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) Cancer Module. Relevant factors were investigated using ordinal logistic regression analysis and compared with PedsQL scores by degree of information provision with adjustment for age. Results: The majority of children aged 2 - 4 years received a low level of information only in regard to medical procedure and preparation. The majority of children aged 5 - 11 years were provided information regarding disease symptoms and treatment, but not actual diagnosis. Approximately half of children aged 12 - 18 years were provided detailed information including their actual diagnosis. Older children generally received more information regarding their disease (odds ratio [OR] = 1.3 per 1 year old, P < 0.001), while children with intellectual disability received less (OR = 0.2, P = 0.006). The provision of information did not worsen scores for Procedural Anxiety, Treatment Anxiety, Worry, or Communication. Conclusions: To our knowledge, this is the first report on the degree of information provision to children with brain tumors. Parents of children with brain tumors in Japan provide information dependent on age and intellectual level. The disclosure of information to children regarding their disease might affect their trust of medical and health care professionals.

A recently found double-mode Cepheid with the shortest known period in our Galaxy and abnormal period ratio, V371 Per, is investigated by linear nonadiabatic pulsation models. V371 Per is likely to be crossing the instability strip for the first time, because the mass derived from pulsation models is larger than the evolution mass for the second or higher crossing objects. This result seems to support the conclusion obtained from spectroscopic observation. We also found that models with observed period and period ratio of V371 Per need to have mass and Teff in a narrow range which shifts as heavy element abundance Z changes. We have checked the agreement between Teffranges estimated observationally and derived from pulsation models using observational Z. We found that those ranges overlap marginally. We need more spectroscopic estimations of Teff and [Fe/H], and more photometric monitoring to estimate the evolutional period change for confirmation of our result.

BACKGROUND Oral tacrolimus is a therapeutic agent for moderate to severe steroid-dependent or resistant ulcerative colitis(UC),but remission induction is difficult,and it is necessary to treat the patient while considering the next *** To examine serum albumin(Alb)level as a prognostic factor for the therapeutic effect of tacrolimus in clinical *** Forty-seven patients with UC treated with tacrolimus at our institution were divided into remission and failure groups(colectomy or switch to biologics),and the biological data at the start of observation and at weeks 1 and 2 were retrospectively ***-Meier and multivariate analyses were performed using Alb as a prognostic factor in UC *** During the three months observed,17(36.2%)patients failed treatment with tacrolimus.A comparison between the failure and remission groups showed a significant difference only in Alb in week 2,and in the week 2/week 0 Alb ratio,which showed the rate of change in *** cut-off value of the week 2/week 0 Alb ratio that predicted failure was 1,and its area under the curve was 0.751(95%CI:0.604-0.898).In the Kaplan-Meier analysis,a week 2/week 0 Alb ratio≤1 had a significantly higher failure rate than that of>1;Cox proportional hazard regression analysis also showed that a week 2/week 0 Alb ratio≤1 was an independent prognostic factor for failure within 3 mo after the start of tacrolimus *** A week 2/week 0 Alb ratio≤1 predicts failure within 3 mo of tacrolimus administration for *** failure risk exists with week 2 Alb values≤1 on admission.

Velocity and Size of Droplets in Dense Region of Diesel Fuel Spray on Transient Needle Opening Condition

In order to investigate the effect of transient needle opening on early stage of spray behavior, simultaneous measurements of velocity and size of droplet were conducted by a newly developed laser 2-focus velocimeter (L2F). The micro-scale probe of the L2F was consisted of two foci with a distance of 36μm. The tested nozzle had a single hole with a diameter of 0.2 mm. The measurements of injection pressure, needle lift, and crank angle were synchronized with the spray measurement by the L2F at the position 10 mm downstream from the nozzle exit. It has been clearly shown that the velocity and size of droplet increase with needle valve opening and that the probability density distribution of droplet size can be fitted to the Nukiyama-Tanasawa distribution under the transient needle opening condition.

Advanced therapies for patients with mild-to-severe ulcerative colitis(UC)may result in treatment *** examined whether the lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio(L/M ratio)could predict the failure of advanced *** retrospective,observational,cohort study included 73 patients who were treated with advanced therapies at the Hamamatsu University School of Medicine(Shizuoka,Japan)between February 2011 and November *** patients were divided into the nonfailure and failure groups,and their leukocyte counts and ratios before induction were *** and multivariate analyses were performed to identify the prognostic *** therapies failed within 3 months in 15(20.5%)*** the L/M ratio was significantly lower in the failure group than in the non-failure group(P=0.004).Receiveroperating characteristic(ROC)curve analysis revealed that an L/M ratio of ≤3.417 was predictive of treatment failure;the area under the curve(AUC)was 0.747(95%CI,0.620–0.874).Kaplan–Meier analysis revealed that the failure-free rate was significantly lower in the group with an L/M ratio of≤3.417 than in the group with an L/M ratio of>3.417(log-rank test P=0.002).Cox proportional hazard regression analysis identified an L/M ratio of≤3.417 as an independent risk factor for failure within 3 months after the induction of advanced ***,ROC analysis of patients who did not receive immunomodulators also revealed that the cut-off L/M ratio was 3.417 and the AUC was 0.796(95%CI,0.666–0.925).In patients receiving advanced therapies for active UC,the L/M ratio can predict treatment failure within 3 months.L/M ratios could facilitate the transition from advanced therapies to subsequent treatments.

We present a universal interpretation of a class of conformal extended standard models that include Higgs portal interactions as realized in low-energy effective *** scale generation mechanism in this class(scalegenesis)arises along the(nearly)conformal/flat direction for breaking scale symmetry,where the electroweak symmetry-breaking structure arises similarly as in the standard model.A dynamical origin for the Higgs portal coupling can provide the discriminator for the low-energy“universality class,”to be probed in forthcoming collider experiments.
