Skin manifestations can be major sources of stress for patients with skin diseases;hence, the effective use of makeup and cosmetic products for these patients has been established. The objective of this study was to determine if makeup can divert observers’ gaze from areas of inflammatory acne lesions. Both base and point makeup were applied to two Japanese female patients with mild to moderate acne vulgaris to hide skin manifestations, as well as to accentuate the eyes and lips. Photographs of their faces were shown, at various stages of makeup application, to 22 observers (11 men and 11 women). The effects of makeup application, and other eye-diverting strategies (e.g., clothing, accessories, and hairstyle), used to draw observers’ gaze away from acne lesions, were evaluated by analyzing observers’ eye movements. As base makeup application proceeded, time to first fixation, total fixation duration, and fixation count changed. Compared to “no makeup”, the time to first fixation, total fixation duration, and fixation count also decreased significantly after point makeup application. The additional eye-diverting strategies used also had significant gaze-diverting effects. Therefore, makeup can be useful for patients with acne to divert others’ gaze from lesions. Therefore, it should be actively integrated into acne management.

Intraoperative frozen section diagnosis of bile duct margin for extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma

AIM To evaluate the usefulness of frozen section diagnosis(FSD) of bile duct margins during surgery for extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(CCA). METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 74 consecutive patients who underwent surgery for extrahepatic CCA from 2012 to 2017, during which FSD of bile duct margins was performed. They consisted of 40 distant and 34 perihilar CCAs(45 and 55 bile duct margins, respectively). The diagnosis was classified into three categories: negative, borderline(biliary intraepithelial neoplasia-1 and 2, and indefinite for neoplasia), or positive. FSD in the epithelial layer, subepithelial layer, and total layer was compared with corresponding permanent section diagnosis(PSD) ***, association between FSD and local recurrence was analyzed with special reference to *** Analysis of 100 duct margins revealed that concordance rate between FSD and PSD was 68.0% in the total layer, 69.0% in the epithelial layer, and 98.0% in the subepithelial layer. The extent of remaining biliary epithelium was comparable between FSD and PSD, and more than half of the margins lost > 50% of the entire epithelium, suggesting low quality of the samples. In FSD, the rate of negative margins decreased and that of borderline and positive margins increased according to the extent of the remaining epithelium. Diagnostic discordance between FSD and PSD was observed in 31 epithelial layers and two subepithelial layers. Alteration from borderline to negative was the most frequent(20 of the 31 epithelial layers). Patients with positive margin in the total and epithelial layers by FSD demonstrated a significantly worse local recurrence-free survival(RFS) compared with patients with borderline and negative margins, which revealed comparable local RFS. Patients with borderline and negative margins in the epithelial layer by PSD also revealed comparable local RFS. 2-Hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and styrene copolymers are prepared by photopolymerization. The electrooptical behavior and microstructure of the polymer dispersed liquid crystal films are investigated by using He-Ne laser and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. With increasing E7 content in the copolymer, droplet size increased, threshold voltage decreased.

An ultrasonic evaluation method of echo feature of diffusion bond joint between two dissimilar materials is presented. The echo signal was acquired by an automatic ultrasonic C-scan test system. It is found that the intensity of echo and its phase can be used to evaluate the joint quality, and interface products of dissimilar materials bonding can be evaluated by ultrasonic method.

The present study discusses the relationships between two independently developed models of games with incomplete information, hypergames （Bennett, 1977） and Bayesian games （Harsanyi, 1967）. The authors first show that any hypergame can naturally be reformulated in terms of Bayesian games in an unified way. The transformation procedure is called Bayesian representation of hypergame. The authors then prove that some equilibrium concepts defined for hypergames are in a sense equivalent to those for Bayesian games. Furthermore, the authors discuss carefully based on the proposed analysis how each model should be used according to the analyzer＇s purpose.

This paper discusses the relationship of two independently developed models of games with incomplete information,hierarchical hypergames and Bayesian *** can be considered as a generalization of the previous study on the theoretical comparison of simple hypergames and Bayesian games(Sasaki and Kijima,2012) by taking into account hierarchy of perceptions,i.e.,an agent's perception about the other agents' perceptions,and so *** authors first introduce the general way of transformation of any hierarchical hypergames into corresponding Bayesian games,which was called as the Bayesian representation of hierarchical *** authors then show that some equilibrium concepts for hierarchical hypergames can be associated with those for Bayesian games and discuss implications of the results.

Japan has yet to establish a seismic design for road box culverts(RBCs)because past major earthquakes did not damage *** recent years,structures with enlarged sectional dimensions(the purpose of which is to optimize the internal space in RBCs)have become ***,the unknown seismic strength of such large RBCs makes RBC seismic designs increasingly *** seismic design methods have been developed for and applied to rectangular underground structures,e.g.,cut-and-cover tunnels,which are structurally similar to *** these methods are applicable to RBCs,it is uncertain whether they can be applied directly because there are currently no evaluation results from model tests on RBCs,which have unique structural features,e.g.,no haunch at the bottom of the ***,we verify a seismic behavior of an RBC and develop a method for evaluating it in order to establish a seismic design for *** conducted centrifuge model tests subjected to seismic force and a numerical analysis using an elastoplastic finite analysis method,in addition,we validated this analysis by comparing the test and analytical *** test results show RBCs will most likely develop rocking rotation when the ground strain exceeds approximately 0.08%.A comparison of the numerical and experimental results shows that this analysis can estimate the shear deformation behavior with approximately 90%accuracy in square cross-section ***,this analysis has tendency to underestimate the axial forces in each case and to overestimate the bending moments of some members in the case of wide cross-sections.

The carrier-envelope phase(CEP)of an ultrashort laser pulse is becoming more crucial to specify the temporal characteristic of the pulse's electric field when the pulse duration becomes shorter and attains the subcycle regime;here,the pulse duration of the intensity envelope is shorter than one cycle period of the carrier field *** this subcycle pulse involves a structured wavefront as is contained in an optical vortex(OV)pulse,the CEP has an impact on not only the temporal but also the spatial characteristics owing to the spatiotemporal coupling in the structured optical ***,the direct observation of the spatial effect of the CEP control has not yet been *** this study,we report on the measurement and control of the spatial wavefront of a subcycle OV pulse by adjusting the *** generate subcycle OV pulses,an optical parametric amplifier delivering subcycle Gaussian pulses and a Sagnac interferometer as a mode converter were integrated and provided an adequate spectral *** pulse duration of the generated OV pulse was 4.7 fs at a carrier wavelength of 1.54μ*** confirm the wavefront control with the alteration of the CEP,we developed a novel f-2f interferometer that exhibited spiral fringes originating from the spatial interference between the subcycle OV pulse and the second harmonic of the subcycle Gaussian pulse producing a parabolic wavefront as a reference;this resulted in the successful observation of the rotation of spiral interference fringes during CEP manipulation.

Nickel electroplating has been used practically for decades, is easy to plate, but there is an unknown interest in it. Nickel electroplating as a basis of surface treatment is shown practically from basics to the applied electronics use. At first the basics of nickel electroplating, for example, purpose, use, merit & demerit, nickel plating solution, current efficiency, limiting current density, additional agents and their behaviors are surveyed. And the points of nickel deposition already practically used such as decorative nickel plating, satin nickel plating and functional nickel plating, which has very high throwing power and has been used for electronics, are described in detail.
