Measurement and machining in microfabrication based on radiation pressure control

We have been developing new fabrication tools based on optical radiation pressur e and related phenomena to develop a flexible and accurate microfabrication tec hnology. In this paper, the laser trapping probe for the nano-CMM for assessment , in addition to micromachining technique using a small particle controlled by o p tical radiation pressure and laser aggregation technique are discussed. As the p o sitional detection probe for the nano-CMM, an optically trapped silica particle with 8 mm diameter in forced oscillation state is used. A probe sphere retains a stable position when applied with trapping force by Nd:YAG laser light formed an nu lar and is forced to oscillate by the driving force changed by modulating the in tensity of LD emission. Experintal results show that this vibrational microprobe h as the possibility to achieve positional sensing accuracy of less than 25 nm. As a new micromachining technique, nano-removal process using an optically trapped m icro-grain is proposed. The laser trapping force enables not only to stably trap the diamond grain with asymmetrical shape but also to freely control the positi on with spinning. Using this micro machining tool, the machining experiments of h ydrocarbon film are performed. AFM observation confirmed that the fine groove wi th depths of about 3～4 nm can be fabricated. As an additive process based on ra diation pressure, a laser microstructure fabrication using laser agglomeration p h enomena of colloidal particles aided by radiation pressure is investigated. By c ontrolling laser beam scanning in slurry containing KOH solution and SiO 2 par ticles with a diameter of 140 nm, colloidal particles are aggregated and adhered firmly to a silicon wafer substrate. Using this laser agglomerating process, two-dimensional grid microstructures at the pitch of 5 mm can be fabricated.

The two-layer cold storage method (TLM) was f irst reported in 1988, consisting of a perfluorochemical (PFC) and initially Euro-Collins' solution, which was later replaced by University of Wisconsin solution (UW). PFC is a biologically inert liquid and acts as an oxygen-supplying agent. A pancreas preserved using the TLM is oxygenated through the PFC and substrates are supplied by the UW solution. This allows the pancreas preserved using the TLM to generate adenosine triphosphate during storage, prolonging the preservation time. In a canine model, the TLM was shown to repair and resuscitate warm ischemically damaged pancreata during preservation, improve pancreas graft survival after transplantation, and also improve the islet yield after isolation. Clinical trials using the TLM in pancreas preservation before whole-pancreas transplantation and islet isolation have shown promising outcomes. We describe the role of the TLM in pancreas and islet transplantation.

Dynamic centrifuge model test was conducted to study the earthquake-induced differential settlement of foundation on cohesive ground, and the influence of asymmetry of building was investigated. During the experiment, the overconsolidated kaolin clay ground with a three-dimensional asymmetrical structure model was shaken by a basically balanced input motion, and bender elements were used to measure shear wave velocities of model ground to reveal the soil fabric evolution during and after shaking. The test results show that, the total seismic settlement of foundation is composed of instantaneous and long-term post-earthquake settlements, and most of the differential settlement occurs immediately after the earthquake while the post-earthquake settlement is relatively uniform despite its large amplitude. The asymmetry of building affects the settlement behavior considerably. Compared with 1-or 2-dimensional structures, more evident differential settlement occurs under threedimensional asymmetrical building during shaking, which accounts for one-half of the total seismic settlements and results in complex spatial tilting effects of foundation.

Recent advances in surgical techniques and perioperative management have markedly reduced operative morbidity after distal pancreatectomy(DP).However,some questions remain regarding the protocol for the perioperative management of DP,in particular,with regard to the development of pancreatic fistula(PF).A review of DP was therefore conducted in order to standardize the management of patients for a favorable ***,operative technique and perioperative management emerged as two critical factors contributing to favorable outcome in DP *** for the operative method,surgical and closure techniques exhibited differences in *** DP generally yields more favorable perioperative outcomes compared to open DP,and is applicable for benign tumors and some ductal carcinomas of the *** DP is also available for safe pancreatic *** bloc celiac axis resection offers a high R0 resection rate and potentially allows for some local control in the case of advanced pancreatic *** resection,staple closure was not found to reduce the rate of PF when compared to hand-sewn *** addition,ultrasonic dissection devices,fibrin glue sealing,and staple closure with mesh reinforcement were shown to significantly reduce PF,although there was some bias in these *** perioperative management,both preoperative and postoperative treatment affected ***,preoperative endoscopic pancreatic stenting may be an effective prophylactic measure against fistula development following DP in selected ***,in postoperative management,a multifactorial approach including prophylactic antibiotics improved high surgical site infection rates following complex hepato-pancreatobiliary ***,although conflicting results have been reported,somatostatin analogues should be administered selectively to patients considered to have a high risk for ***,careful drain management also facilitates a favorable outcome in

Probing CO at a specific site on a metal oxide surface is essential for characterizing various applications such as CO oxidation,hydrogenation,and water–gas shift ***,we use atomic force microscopy and Kelvin probe force microscopy to probe the CO on a rutile TiO_(2)(110)*** results indicate that CO can be manipulated along the Ti row by the repulsive lateral force of“pushing”***,the joint combination of precise manipulation and the distance dependence of local contact potential difference allow us to resolve the interatomic dipole moment and charge state of CO at atomic ***,we found that the negatively charged CO with the dipole moment of negative pole down on the rutile TiO_(2)(110)*** results suppose that both the charge state as well as the on-surface dipole interaction are very effective for CO reaction on rutile TiO_(2)(110)surface.

Background:Graft inflow modulation(GIM)during adult-to-adult living donor liver transplantation(LDLT)is a common strategy to avoid small-for-size syndrome,and some transplant surgeons attempt small size graft strategy with frequent GIM procedures,which are mostly performed by splenectomy,in ***,splenectomy can cause serious complications such as portal vein thrombosis and overwhelming postsplenectomy ***:Forty-eight adult-to-adult LDLT recipients were enrolled in this study and retrospectively *** applied the graft selection criteria,which routinely fulfill graft-to-recipient weight ratio≥0.8%,and consider GIM as a backup strategy for high portal venous pressure(PVP).Results:In our current strategy of LDLT,splenectomy was performed mostly due to hepatitis C and splenic arterial aneurysms,but splenectomy for GIM was intended to only one patient(2.1%).The final PVP values≤20 mmHg were achieved in all recipients,and no significant difference was observed in patient survival or postoperative clinical course based on whether splenectomy was performed or ***,6 of 18 patients with splenectomy(33.3%)developed postsplenectomy portal vein thrombosis(PVT),while none of the 30 patients without splenectomy developed PVT after *** was identified as a risk factor of PVT in this study(P<0.001).Our study revealed that a lower final PVP could be risk factor of postsplenectomy ***:Using sufficient size grafts was one of the direct solutions to control PVP,and allowed GIM to be reserved as a backup *** should be avoided as much as possible during LDLT because splenectomy was found to be a definite risk factor of *** splenectomy cases with a lower final PVP,a close follow-up is required for early detection and treatment of PVT.

The thermal fatigue behaviour of an air plasma sprayed thermal barrier coating was investigated. And also the interfacial strengths of thermal barrier coated specimens subjected to thermal fatigue, as well as a retired TBC vane were also evaluated by means of an instrumented indentation machine. The results indicated that, （1） the TGO grew at the interface during thermal fatigue cycle as a function of the exposure time at elevated temperature; （2） the microcracks were initiated in the top coating and at the interface after thermal cycle tests; （3） the interfacial strength of TBC, which was evaluated by the indentation method, increased with the thermal cycles; （4） the interfacial strength of the retired TBC vane was almost equal with that of the as-sprayed TBC specimen.

This paper presents the purpose,advantages,system constitution,operation method and estimation results of using hydrogen storage in a small-scale electric power(off-grid)system when renewable energy sources are *** is assumed that all electricity is supplied from renewable energy sources without using a diesel generator that requires fossil *** other words,for a small-scale electric power system on a remote island,a power-supply system comprising a photovoltaic power-generation system,storage battery,hydrogen-production system,storage tank and a fuel cell is *** condition under which the total construction cost is minimized by considering the equipment capacity,operation method of the battery and fuel cell as parameters is *** results demonstrate that the construction cost can be reduced by applying the method of surplus magnification and hydrogen *** initial cost is~70%when hydrogen storage is added as compared with the case in which a storage battery alone is *** a cost-effective system can contribute to Japan’s self-reliance with regard to the energy sector in the future.
