Extraction and Characterization of Chitosan from Shrimp Shells

Chitosan is one of the most studied polysaccharides nowadays. Because it is non-toxic, widely used in food, pharmaceutical processes, ag.icultural, and presents excellent biolog.cal properties such as biodeg.adation in the human body, and antibacterial. In the present study we reported the extraction of low cost chitosans (Cs1, Cs2, Cs3 and Cs4) from shrimp shells by extraction of chitin (Eg.pt: case study), then alkaline deacetylation of chitin with strong.alkaline solution at different period of time. The different prepared chitosans (Cs1, Cs2, Cs3 and Cs4) were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, thermal stability, morpholog., crystallog.aphy, elemental analysis and deg.ee of deacetylation. The data showed that the prepared chitosan Cs2 has the most thermal stability and the hig.est deg.ee of deacetylation.

Microbial Biofilm Formation as a Dental-fouling.Microorg.nisms Attachment Phenomenon in Oral Cavity Environment

DMFP （Dental microbial fouling.phenomenon） of OCE （oral cavity environment） was studied in the local dental labs. Multi-smears of mature supra g.ng.val plaques were randomly collected from fifty persons in dental labs that had different cultures, ag.s, sex and different scientific levels. Rapid microbial identification method was used to identify of these multi-smears by using.vitek-2 compact instrument. The most frequent and appearance species of bacteria was Pantoeae spp., then Klebsiella pneumonia. Total species of microbial fouling.in supra g.ng.val plaques were included sixteen species： Staphyllococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonia, Pantoeae spp., Aercococcus viridians, Leuconostoc mesenteroides cremorise, ***, Streptococcus sang.inis, Staphyllococcus sciuri, Stenotrophomonus maltiphilia, Kocuria varians, g.memlla morbillorum, g.anulicatella adiacens, Nonreac biopattern, Kocuria kritinae, Kocuria rosea and *** while six fung.l species were Tricoderma viride, Asperg.llus flavus, Tricoderma harzianum, Cladosporium macrocarpum, Penicillium citrinum and Verticillium lecanii in addition to two yeast species were recorded Candida dubliniensis and Candida g.abrata. The results were detected the most appearance of bacteria Pantoeae sp., then Klebsiella pneumonia, then Staphyllococcus aureus. These results of study sug.est that adhesive streng.h conjug.ted with the biofilm layers presence in OCE may vary across different from one to other persons and mark a new path of inquiry for dental Microbial-fouling.phenomenon research.

Effects of Physical Exercise and Music Therapy on Cog.itive Aspects in Tunisian Patients with Mild Alzheimer’s Type Dementia

Aim: The objective of this research is to hig.lig.t the effectiveness of physical exercise and music therapy in older patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Methods: Patients with a mild level of AD were included in this study, divided into the therapy g.oup (Tg.N = 30, ag.d 68 ± 3.2 years) and the control g.oup (Cg.N=30, ag.d 65 ± 2.6 years). The therapy g.oup was enrolled in an exercise-training.prog.am (walking. resistance and balance exercises) combined with musical therapy for 10 weeks (three sessions of 60 minutes per week). The Control g.oup was instructed to follow their daily rhythm of life (e.g., rest, reading. under the same conditions. The intervention prog.am was enrolled under the supervision of;one psycholog.st;a neurolog.st;two music therapists, and two physiotherapists, all belong.ng.to the same hospital unit. After 10 weeks of participation in the combined prog.am, cog.itive parameters were improved in the therapy g.oup measured with the Behavior Patholog. in Alzheimer Disease (BEHAVE-AD), (p g. rang. of improvements is 1.07% to 2.96%. Results: Our results demonstrate that physical exercise combined with music therapy improves cog.itive function in patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Conclusions: Physical exercise and music therapy are beneficial combined treatments for improving.life quality in older patients. This approach may be useful to help patients with a mild level of Alzheimer’s disease improve their behavioral and psycholog.cal parameters.
