Recycling waste frying oils for the synthesis of flotation reagents presents a promising avenue for sustainable waste management.Moreover,it offers a cost-effective solution for crafting a specialized collector designed to efficiently remove carbonates and enhance phosphate enrichment in froth flotation processes.This study focuses on the synthesis of an anionic collector using the saponification reaction of a frying oil sample,subsequently applied to the flotation of calcite and dolomite.To elucidate the adsorption mechanisms of the frying oil collector(FrOC)and sodium oleate,a reference collector,on fluorapatite,calcite,dolomite,and quartz surfaces,comprehensive experiments were conducted,including zeta potential measurements and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.Results revealed diverse adsorption affinities of the molecules towards these minerals.To assess the practical performance of the collector,flotation tests were conducted using a natural phosphate ore mixture,employing a BoxBehnken experimental design.Notably,under optimized conditions(pH 9,1000 g/t of FrOC,3.5 min of conditioning,and 6 min of flotation),FrOC exhibited excellent performance,with calcite and dolomite recoveries exceeding 80%,while apatite recovery in the concentrate fraction remained below 10%.This work exemplifies both circular economy practices and the distinctive approach to sustainable mineral processing.

Isolated fractures of the distal humerus are rare. Their diagnosis is often late, and treatment has progressed but serious complications may occur. We conducted a retrospective study of a series of 10 cases at the Department of Orthopedic and Traumatologic Surgery of the Ibn Sina University Hospital in Rabat over a 4-year period, from January 2018 to January 2022. All our cases were treated surgically with Herbert screws. The functional, clinical and radiological outcome was satisfactory with a return to pre-fracture activity in all patients.

Primary Prostatic Tuberculosis: A Rare Entity

Objectives: To clarify the clinical, histological and therapeutic features of prostatic tuberculosis. Methods: We conducted a single-centre retrospective descriptive study of all patients presenting with prostatic tuberculosis between January 2002 and December 2020. Patients who were lost to follow-up, could not be reached by telephone or whose records were not usable were excluded from this study. Results: 240 patients were treated for urogenital tuberculosis, including 13 for isolated prostatic tuberculosis. The average age of the patients was 75 years. None of our patients had a history of tuberculosis. The average of international prostate symptom score (IPSS) was 27. Lower urinary tract symptoms in the filling phase were predominant. The digital rectal examination was suspicious in only one patient. The mean preoperative PSA was 9.24 ng/ml. 46.15% of patients underwent transurethral resection of the prostate and 53.85% underwent ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy. Histological examination showed epithelioid gigantocellular granuloma with isolated caseous necrosis in 61.53% of patients and associated adenomyomatous hyperplasia in 38.47% of patients. Antituberculosis treatment was given for 6 months. The average of follow up was 15 months. All patients reported an improvement in clinical signs with a mean post operative IPSS score of 17 and a normalisation of PSA levels. Conclusion: Isolated prostatic tuberculosis is a rare entity, it can simulate a cancer. In front of the symptoms of the lower urinary tract, the clinicians must think of it especially in the developing countries where tuberculosis still prevails in an endemic state.

Depression is a prevalent psychiatric disorder that often leads to poor quality of life and impaired functioning.Treatment during the acute phase of a major depressive episode aims to help the patient reach a remission state and eventually return to their baseline level of functioning.Pharmacotherapy,especially selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors antidepressants,remains the most frequent option for treating depression during the acute phase,while other promising pharmacological options are still competing for the attention of practitioners.Depressionfocused psychotherapy is the second most common option for helping patients overcome the acute phase,maintain remission,and prevent relapses.Electroconvulsive therapy is the most effective somatic therapy for depression in some specific situations;meanwhile,other methods have limits,and their specific indications are still being studied.Combining medications,psychotherapy,and somatic therapies remains the most effective way to manage resistant forms of depression.

Environmental perturbations are unavoidable in the propagation of infectious diseases.In this paper,we introduce the stochasticity into the susceptible-infected recovered(SIR)model via thc^parameter perturbation method.The stochastic disturbances associated with the disease transmission coefficient and the mortality rate are presented with two perturbations:Gaussian white noise and Levy jumps,respectively.This idea provides an overview of disease dynamics under different random perturbation scenarios.By using new techniques and methods,we study certain interesting asymptotic properties of our perturbed model,namely:persistence in the mean,ergodicity and extinction of the disease.For illustrative purposes,numerical examples are presented for checking the theoretical study.

In this paper,a detailed investigation of water(Pr=7.0)convection in a chemical condenser is carried out.Two openings are located along one side of the cavity.The Navier-Stokes equations are solved in the frame of a control volume method using the SIMPLEC algorithm to implement adequate coupling of pressure and velocity.Special emphasis is given to the influence of the Reynolds number,the tilt of the channel and the Rayleigh number on the convective heat transfer.Results are presented and discussed allowing the control parameters to span relatively wide intervals:Rayleigh number(10^(4)≤Ra≤5×10^(5)),channel inclination(0°≤90°)and Reynolds number(10≤Re≤1000).On the basis of these results,a new correlation of the Nusselt number is elaborated.

Background:Ecological functions and processes in urban ecosystems are governed by various human activities.City-adapted and city-exploiting animal species are expected to present certain specific behavioral and physiological traits in comparison to city-avoiders or conspecific individual frequenting less urbanized or rural environments.A trait of high importance,the plumage color polymorphism has been selected as the main study model and was correlated with different morphological and physiological parameters to highlight its importance in determining the possible health status of urban Feral Pigeons(Columba livia)in North African urban habitats.Methods:Different body morphometrics,hematological and hemoparasitic parameters were quantified on freeliving Feral Pigeons in urban environments of northern Algeria.Moreover,plumage melanin-based coloration(MBC)was measured and the data collected at the individual scale was correlated with the previous parameters using linear and non-linear modeling approaches.Results:Plumage MBC scores of the sampled Feral Pigeons ranged between 0.3%and 74.8%.Among the 12 morphological traits measured,body weight,tail length and total length were deemed to be positively correlated with MBC.Darker morphs appeared to have more hemoparasites compared to lighter pigeons.Quite the same observation goes with the immunity but with non-linear trends.The number of monocytes and granulocytes increased with the increase in MBC levels in lighter morphs,while pigeons with high MBC scores exhibited negative relationships between MBC levels and the number of white blood cells.Conclusions:Despite the existence of a number of studies demonstrating phenotypic directional selection,further studies are undoubtedly necessary to understand in detail the underlying mechanisms in species life-history strategies between differently colored individuals.Findings of this correlative study open exciting perspectives revealing that MBC can be considered a good indicator of and health status and adaptation strategies

Prediction of Soil Salinity Using Remote Sensing Tools and Linear Regression Model

Soil salinity is one of the most damaging environmental problems worldwide, especially in arid and semi-arid regions. Multispectral data Sentinel_2 are used to study saline soils in southern Tunisia. 34 soil samples were collected for ground truth data in the investigated region. A moderate correlation was found between electrical conductivity and the spectral indices from SWIR. Different spectral indices were used from original bands of Sentinel_2 data. Statistical correlation between ground measurements of Electrical Conductivity (EC), spectral indices and Sentinel_2 original bands showed that SWIR bands (b11 and b12) and the salinity index SI have the highest correlation with EC. Based on these results and combining these remotely sensed variables into a regression analysis model yielded a coefficient of determination R2 = 0.48 and an RMSE = 4.8 dS/m.

Hypercalcemia: Is Dialysis Still an Option?

Hypercalcemia is a common disorder that can cause acute kidney failure, neurological damage up to coma, arrhythmia and cardiac arrest. The management of hypercalcemia is based on intravenous hydration with normal saline, when insufficient, bisphosphonate treatment is used. More recently, denosumab has shown significant benefit. Hemodialysis is an additional option in the treatment of severe refractory hypercalcemia when medical treatment is deemed ineffective or unavailable. It allows rapid correction of calcium levels, especially in patients with renal failure or cardiac co-morbidities, where hydration cannot be performed safely. The aim of our study was to compare hemodialysis as a therapeutic tool, to more conservative treatments. Our study is retrospective, descriptive, analytical and comparative, sprawling from January 2015 to June 2019 at the university hospital Hassan II in Fez. 78 patients with hypercalcemia were studied. The mean age was 55 ± 15 years and sex ratio M/F of 1.1. The mean corrected serum calcium at admission was 144 mg/l ± 23 mg/l. Malignancies represented 72.7% of all etiologies. Kidney injury was observed in 50 of our patients (64%). Mortality was noted in 16.6% of all cases. When comparing the 2 groups (patient on dialysis versus patient under other treatments), electrocardiogram abnormalities, patient who had high levels of calcium and those who had hyperparathyroidism were more likely to be on dialysis rate. In our study, even though we used relatively high calcium dialysate, we were able to achieve a decrease of 39% in patient’s calcemia in the hemodialysis group versus 27% decrease when using a combination of forced saline dieresis and bisphosphonate without a difference in term of mortality.
