Assessment of plant diversity of endemic species of the Saharo-Arabian region in Egypt

Savanna, semi-deserts, and hot deserts characterize the Saharo-Arabian region, which includes Morocco, Mauretania, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Palestine, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Yemen, southern Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and northern India. Its neighboring regions, the Sudano-Zambezian region belonging to the Paleotropical Kingdom and the Mediterranean and Irano-Turanian regions included in the Holarctic Kingdom, share a large portion of their flora with the Saharo-Arabian region. Despite the widespread acknowledgment of the region's global importance for plant diversity, an up to date list of the Saharo-Arabian endemics is still unavailable. The available data are frequently insufficient or out of date at both the whole global and the national scales. Therefore, the present study aims at screening and verifying the Saharo-Arabian endemic plants and determining the phytogeographical distribution of these taxa in the Egyptian flora. Hence, a preliminary list of 429 Saharo-Arabian endemic plants in Egypt was compiled from the available literature. Indeed, by excluding the species that were recorded in any countries or regions outside the Saharo-Arabian region based on different literature, database reviews, and websites, the present study has reduced this number to 126 taxa belonging to 87 genera and 37 families. Regarding the national geographic distribution, South Sinai is the richest region with 83 endemic species compared with other eight phytogeographic regions in Egypt, followed by the Isthmic Desert(the middle of Sinai Peninsula, 53 taxa). Sahara regional subzone(SS1) distributes all the 126 endemic species, Arabian regional subzone(SS2) owns 79 taxa, and Nubo-Sindian subzone(SS3) distributes only 14 endemics. Evaluation of the versatility of perforators-enhanced rhomboid flap technique for ischial sores reconstruction

Background: Prolonged pressure on the skin known as pressure sores, can cause frequent injuries to the skin and underlying tissues. However, several prevention approaches, including non-surgical and surgical management,are available. In flap surgery for pressure sores, a variety of flap types may be used;each offers certain benefits and some incidences of complications and recurrence. This study evaluated the versatility of the perforatorenhanced rhomboid flap technique for ischial sore ***: This prospective study was conducted in the Plastic Surgery Department of Fayoum University *** perforator-enhanced rhomboid flap technique was employed in 20 patients with ischial pressure sores who failed to respond to conservative treatment. A proper history was obtained and a preoperative arterial duplex was performed to determine the site of the prominent perforators for their preservation at the base of the *** follow-ups and evaluations were ***: The mean age of the study group was 43.7 ± 13.1, ranging from 19 to 65 years. Moreover, 80% of the participants were males while 20% were female. The main etiology of the sores was paraplegia in 45% of *** mean surface area of sores was 24.8 ± 6.3 cm2. In 75% of cases, the color match of the flap was rated as excellent. Similarly, 70% of the patients rated flap thickness as excellent. In 55% of the cases, the scar appearance was deemed excellent. Overall satisfaction was reported as excellent by 40% of the patients, while only 5% reported poor satisfaction. Planning Target Volume Margin in Linac-Based Stereotactic Radiosurgery for Brain Metastases

Background: The treatment of brain metastases with radiotherapy has shifted to the use of Stereotactic Radio-surgery (SRS). The technical issue of expanding the treatment volume around the Gross Tumor Volume (GTV) is a current debate. Radiotherapy centers use variable GTV-PTV margins, ranging from one to 2 mm. Material and Methods: We performed a dosimetric comparison in plans of twenty patients using three margins: PTV zero, PTV1, and PTV2. We also developed imaginary Peel volumes. These volumes are described as follows: Peel1 = PTV1 − GTV, Peel2 = PTV2 − GTV. Results: Our results showed that the mean PTV volume differed significantly across the different margins (p = 0.000). The V12 of the brain significantly varied as a function of PTV margin (p = 0.000). The target coverage and plan quality indices were not significantly different. The Peel volume dosimetric analysis showed that the mean dose was significantly higher in the nearby normal brain tissue: Peel1 (p = 0.022) and Peel 2 (p = 0.013). Conclusion: According to our dosimetric analysis, expanding the GTV into a PTV by 1 mm margin is more convenient than 2 mm.

Impact of dietary oils and fats on lipid peroxidation in liver and blood of albino rats

Objective:To investigate the effects of different dietary fat and oils(differing in their degree of saturation and unsaturation)on lipid peroxidation in liver and blood of ***:The study was conducted on SO albino rats that were randomly divided into 5 groups of 10 *** groups were fed on dietary butter(Group I),margarine(Croup II),olive oil(Group III),sunflower oil(Group IV)and com oil(Group V)for 7 *** 12 h of diet removal,livers were excised and blood was collected to measure malondialdehyde(MDA)levels in the supernatant of liver homogenate and in *** superoxide dismutase activity(SOD),glutathione peroxidase activity(GPx),serum vitamin E and total antioxidant capacity(TAC)levels were also measured to determine the effects of fats and oils on lipid ***:The results indicated that no significant differences were observed in SOD activity,vitamin E and TAC levels between the five ***,there was significant decrease of GPx activity in groups IV and V when compared with otlier *** results indicated that feeding corn oil caused significant increases in liver and blood MDA levels as compared with other oils and *** were positive correlations between SOD and GPx,vitamin E and TAC as well as between GPx and TAC(r:0.743;Pelations between blood MDA on one hand and SOD,GPx,vitamin E and TAC on the other ***:The results demonstrated that feeding oils rich in polyunsaturated fatly acids(PUFA)increases lipid peroxidation significantly and may raise the susceptibility of tissues to free radical oxidative damage.

Ependymomas are a somewhat diverse category of glial tumors that often develop from the lining of the brain’s ventricles, or the spinal cord’s central canal. They make up 5% of all neuroepithelial tumors, 10% of paediatric brain tumors, and up to 33% of brain tumors in children under the age of three. Hydrocephalus is one of the complications, and it can be identified as progressive macrocephaly or increasing head circumference crossing percentiles, nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, irritability, and regression of developmental milestones.

Numerical Study of Flow and Gas Diffusion in the Near-Wake behind an Isolated Building

To assist validation of the experimental data of urban pollution dispersion, the effect of an isolated building on the flow and gaseous diffusion in the wake region have been investigated numerically in the neutrally stratified rough-walled turbulent boundary layer. Numerical studies were carried out using Computational Fluid Dynamics （CFD） models. The CFD models used for the simulation were based on the steady-state Reynolds-Average Navier-Stoke equations （RANS） with κ-ε turbulence models; standard κ-ε and RNG κ-ε models. Inlet conditions and boundary conditions were specified numerically to the best information available for each fluid modeling simulation. A gas pollutant was emitted from a point source within the recirculation cavity behind the building model. The accuracy of these simulations was examined by comparing the predicted results with wind tunnel experimental data. It was confirmed that simulation using the model accurately reproduces the velocity and concentration diffusion fields with a fine-mish resolution in the near wake region. Results indicated that there is a good agreement between the numerical simulation and the wind tunnel experiment for both wind flow and concentration diffusion. The results of this work can help to improve the understanding of mechanisms of and simulation of pollutant transport in an urban environment.

Optimizing Cr^(3+) concentration and evaluating energy transfer from Cr^(3+) to Nd^(3+) in Cr,Nd:GGG nanocrystals prepared by sol-gel method

Nanopowder of Cr：GGG and nanopowder of Cr,Nd：GGG with different concentrations of Cr3＋ ranging from 0.1 at.% to 1.5 at.% were synthesized by the sol-gel method using acetic acid and ethylene glycol. Thermal gravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry （TGA-DSC）, X-ray diffraction （XRD） and photoluminescence spectroscopy were used to characterize the powder. The crystallite size was about 58 nm when treated at 1000 oC for 2 h. Cr3＋ photoluminescence spectrum in GGG showed a broad band emission around 730 nm. The intensity of this band decreased when co-doped with Nd, indicating an efficient energy transfer from Cr3＋ to Nd3＋. Photoluminescence intensity of Nd in Cr,Nd：GGG at 1.06μm showed that the optimum concentration of Cr3＋ was about 1 at.% （more or less） for 1 at.% Nd3＋. This result was also confirmed by chromium fluorescence decay rate analysis. Energy transfer efficiency was found to be about 84% for 1 at.% concentration of each chromium and neodymium.

The objective of this study was to relate experimental pressure fluctuation behavior to the transition in mode of flow observed in fluidized dense phase pneumatic conveying of fly *** entropy and wavelet analysis were utilized to extract features of the flow *** db4 wavelet analysis of pulsating air pressure revealed that the flow mechanism of fly ash in a fluidized dense phase possessed non-steady characteristics associated with gradual aeration of dunes along the direction of *** of Shannon entropy values along the length of the pipeline were assessed to determine the location at which the flow converted from dense to dilute phase *** effects of conveying parameters and specific power consumption on Shannon entropy and variations of the local power consumption coefficient are discussed.
