The secretome of endothelial progenitor cells: a potential therapeutic strategy for ischemic stroke

Ischemic stroke continues to be a leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the world. Despite recent advances in the field of stroke medicine, thrombolysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator remains as the only pharmacological therapy for stroke patients. However, due to short therapeutic window(4.5 hours of stroke onset) and increased risk of hemorrhage beyond this point, each year globally less than 1% of stroke patients receive this therapy which necessitate the discovery of safe and efficacious therapeutics that can be used beyond the acute phase of stroke. Accumulating evidence indicates that endothelial progenitor cells(EPCs), equipped with an inherent capacity to migrate, proliferate and differentiate, may be one such therapeutics. However, the limited availability of EPCs in peripheral blood and early senescence of few isolated cells in culture conditions adversely affect their application as effective therapeutics. Given that much of the EPC-mediated reparative effects on neurovasculature is realized by a wide range of biologically active substances released by these cells, it is possible that EPC-secretome may serve as an important therapeutic after an ischemic stroke. In light of this assumption, this review paper firstly discusses the main constituents of EPC-secretome that may exert the beneficial effects of EPCs on neurovasculature, and then reviews the currently scant literature that focuses on its therapeutic capacity.

The Internet of Things(IoT)comprises numerous resource-constrained devices that generate large volumes of *** inherent vulnerabilities in IoT infrastructure,such as easily spoofed IP and MAC addresses,pose significant security *** routing protocols designed for wired or wireless networks may not be suitable for IoT networks due to their ***,the Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy Networks(RPL)is widely used in IoT ***,the built-in security mechanism of RPL is inadequate in defending against sophisticated routing attacks,including Sybil *** address these issues,this paper proposes a centralized and collaborative approach for securing RPL-based IoT against Sybil *** proposed approach consists of detection and prevention algorithms based on the Random Password Generation and comparison methodology(RPG).The detection algorithm verifies the passwords of communicating nodes before comparing their keys and constant IDs,while the prevention algorithm utilizes a delivery delay ratio to restrict the participation of sensor nodes in *** simulations,it is demonstrated that the proposed approach achieves better results compared to distributed defense mechanisms in terms of throughput,average delivery delay and detection ***,the proposed countermeasure effectively mitigates brute-force and side-channel attacks in addition to Sybil *** findings suggest that implementing the RPG-based detection and prevention algorithms can provide robust security for RPL-based IoT networks.

Detecting hate speech automatically in social media forensics has emerged as a highly challenging task due tothe complex nature of language used in such platforms. Currently, several methods exist for classifying hatespeech, but they still suffer from ambiguity when differentiating between hateful and offensive content and theyalso lack accuracy. The work suggested in this paper uses a combination of the Whale Optimization Algorithm(WOA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to adjust the weights of two Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLPs)for neutrosophic sets classification. During the training process of the MLP, the WOA is employed to exploreand determine the optimal set of weights. The PSO algorithm adjusts the weights to optimize the performanceof the MLP as fine-tuning. Additionally, in this approach, two separate MLP models are employed. One MLPis dedicated to predicting degrees of truth membership, while the other MLP focuses on predicting degrees offalse membership. The difference between these memberships quantifies uncertainty, indicating the degree ofindeterminacy in predictions. The experimental results indicate the superior performance of our model comparedto previous work when evaluated on the Davidson dataset.

The selective aqueous-phase glycerol hydrogenolysis is a promising reaction to produce commercially useful 1,3-propanediol(1,3-PDO).The Pt-WOx bifunctional catalyst can catalyse the glycerol hydrogenol-ysis but the catalyst deactivation via sintering,metal leaching,and coking can predominantly occur in the aqueous phase *** this work,the effect of reaction temperature,pressure and second promoter(Cu,Fe,Rh,Mn,Re,Ru,Ir,Sn,B,and P)on catalytic performance and deactivation behaviour of Pt/WOx/-Al2O3 was *** doped with Rh,Mn,Re,Ru,Ir,B,and P,the second promoter boosts catalytic activity by promoting great dispersion of Pt on support and increasing Pt surface *** increased Bronsted acid sites lead to selective synthesis of 1,3-PDO than 1,2-propanediol(1,2-PDO).The characterization studies of fresh and spent catalysts reveal that the main cause of catalyst deactivation is the Pt sintering,as interpreted based on XRD,CO chemisorption,and TEM *** Pt sintering is affected depending on the second promoter that can either or reduce the interaction between Pt,WO_(χ)/γ and Al_(2)O_(3).As an electron acceptor of Pt in Pt/WO_(χ)/γ-Al_(2)O_(3),Re and Mn as second promoters resulted in increased Pt^(2+) on the catalytic surface,which strengthens the contact between Pt andγ-Al_(2)O_(3) and WO_(χ),resulting in a decrease in Pt *** metal leaching and coking are not affected by the presence of second *** catalyst modified with a second promoter possesses improved catalytic activity and 1,3-PDO production,however the stability continues to remain a *** present work unrav-elled the determining parameters of catalytic activity and deactivation,thus providing a promising pro-tocol toward effective catalysts for glycerol hydrogenolysis.

Breakdown of blood-brain barrier,formed mainly by brain microvascular endothelial cells(BMECs),represents the major cause of mortality during early phases of ischemic ***,discovery of novel agents that can effectively replace dead or dying endothelial cells to restore blood-brain barrier integrity is of paramount importance in stroke *** endothelial progenitor cells(EPCs)represent one such agents,their rarity in peripheral blood severely limits their adequate isolation and therapeutic use for acute ischemic stroke which necessitate their ex vivo expansion and generate early EPCs and outgrowth endothelial cells(OECs)as a *** analyses of these cells,in the present study,demonstrated that only OECs endocytosed DiI-labelled acetylated low-density lipoprotein and formed tubules on matrigel,prominent endothelial cell and angiogenesis markers,*** analyses by flow cytometry demonstrated that OECs expressed specific markers for sternness(CD34),immaturity(CD133)and endothelial cells(CD31)but not for hematopoietic cells(CD45).Like BMECs,OECs established an equally tight in vitro model of human BBB with astrocytes and pericytes,suggesting their capacity to form tight *** injury mimicked by concurrent deprivation of oxygen and glucose(4 hours)or deprivation of oxygen and glucose followed by reperfusion(20 hours)affected both barrier integrity and function in a similar fashion as evidenced by decreases in transendothelial electrical resistance and increases in paracellular flux,*** scratch assays comparing the vasculoreparative capacity of cells revealed that,compared to BMECs,OECs possessed a greater proliferative and directional migratory *** a triple culture model of BBB established with astrocytes,pericytes and BMEC,exogenous addition of OECs effectively repaired the damage induced on endothelial layer in serum-free *** together,these data demonstrate that OECs may effect

The current study aims to investigate the population variation and food habits of ranid frogs in the rice-based cropping system in District Gujranwala,*** population in the study area was estimated using capture,mark and release method whereas food habits of the species were studied by analysis of stomach *** results showed the highest average population was found during August 2009(93.10±18.64/ha) while the lowest from December 2008 to February *** seasonal populations existed in summer 2009,whereas winter 2008 sizes were at a *** content analysis of the species revealed percent frequency(% F) of occurrence of insects(80.3),earthworms(28.5),whole frogs(15.8),bone pieces(22.5),rodents(1.66),vegetation(5.0),soil particles(13.3) and some unidentified material(7.5) in all the stomach *** frequently consumed prey items were insects(30% by volume),although frogs also preyed upon conspecifics and *** recovered from the stomach contents were identified as belonging to Orthoptera,Lepidoptera,Coleoptera,Diptera,Odonata and Homoptera as well as the class *** recovered from the stomach contents were compared to those captured from the study area.

The population density and breeding of two frog species, i. e., the Skittering Frog （Euphlyctis eyanophlyctis） and the Bull Frog （Hoplobatrachus tigerinus） were studied at Rawal Lake, Islamabad, Pakistan, by using visual encounter method from September 2009 to August 2010. Mean population density for the two frogs was 1.55 ± 0.44 frogs per ha, with that for the Skittering Frog being 1.09 ± 0.33 frogs/ha and that of the Bull Frog 0.46 ± 0.11 frog/ha, respectively. It is concluded that both frog species are explosive breeders, i. e., their breeding activities were confined to the first showers of the monsoon season. The mean spawn weight of the Skittering Frog was 1.5 g with more than 1000 eggs in each spawn, while that of the Bull Frog was 0.26 g with less than 1000 eggs in a spawn. The spawning sites of the two species were investigated in detail. Generally, no threat to their populations was observed. However, the opening of the spillway of Rawal Dam following the torrential rain destroyed the breeding sites of the frogs. It is maintained that the event did not produce any significant impact on their populations and breeding as the two species were quite common.
