The current study provides a quantum calculus-based medical image enhancement technique that dynamically chooses the spatial distribution of image pixel intensity *** technique focuses on boosting the edges and texture of an image while leaving the smooth areas *** brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI)scans are used to visualize the tumors that have spread throughout the brain in order to gain a better understanding of the stage of brain *** detecting brain cancer is a complex challenge that the medical system faces when diagnosing the *** solve this issue,this research offers a quantum calculus-based MRI image enhancement as a pre-processing step for brain cancer *** proposed image enhancement approach improves images with low gray level changes by estimating the pixel’s quantum *** suggested image enhancement technique is demonstrated to be robust and resistant to major quality changes on a variety ofMRIscan datasets of variable *** scans,the BRISQUE“blind/referenceless image spatial quality evaluator”and the NIQE“natural image quality evaluator”measures were 39.38 and 3.58,*** proposed image enhancement model,according to the data,produces the best image quality ratings,and it may be able to aid medical experts in the diagnosis *** experimental results were achieved using a publicly available collection of MRI scans.

This article introduces a novel,ultrawideband(UWB)planar monopole antenna printed on Roger RT/5880 substrate in a compact size for small Internet of Things(IoT)*** total electrical dimensions of the proposed compact UWB antenna are 0.19λo×0.215λo×0.0196λo with the overall physical sizes of 15 mm×17 mm×1.548 mm at the lower resonance frequency of 3.8 *** planar monopole antenna is fed through the linearly tapered microstrip line on a partially structured ground plane to achieve optimum impedance matching for UWB *** proposed compact UWB antenna has an operation bandwidth of 9.53 GHz from 3.026 GHz up to 12.556 GHz at−10 dB return loss with a fractional bandwidth(FBW)of about 122%.The numerically computed and experimentally measured results agree well in between.A detailed time-domain analysis is additionally accomplished to verify the radiation efficiency of the proposed antenna design for the ultra-wideband signal *** fabricated prototype of a compact UWB antenna exhibits an omnidirectional radiation pattern with the low peak measured gain required of 2.55 dBi at 10 GHz and promising radiation efficiency of 90%.The proposed compact planar antenna has technical potential to be utilized in UWB and IoT applications.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis in al Hassa, Saudi Arabia: Epidemiological trends from 2000 to 2010

Objective: To study epidemiological trends related to cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) in al Hassa, an endemic area in Saudi Arabia. Methods: This retrospective study included the spatial/ temporal analysis of the reported cases of CL using the available surveillance database for the disease at the regional Vector Control Unit, from 2000 to 2010. Results: The incidence of CL was declining at a stable rate especially during the last 3 years of the study (2008-2010). An interesting finding was the percentage of expatriates affected was increasing over the last 10 years compared to that of the Saudis. Conclusions: A definite declining trend in the incidence of CL was observed in al Hassa. Further studies are warranted to assess whether special public health measures are needed for better control of CL in expatriate populations in Saudi Arabia.

A 63-year-old man was admitted to our observation unit with atypical angina found to be non-adherent with his an- ti-hypertensive medication regimen for one month. His medical history was notable for hypertension for ten years and current tobacco smoking. He was hypertensive with otherwise, stable vital signs. Cardiac auscultation revealed normal S1 and $2 without a murmur.

Long-Term Mortality of Children with Congenital Heart Disease Admitted to the Departmental University Hospital of Borgou/alibori from 2011 to 2022

Background: Congenital heart disease is a public health issue due to its incidence and mortality rate. The aim of this study was to investigate the long-term mortality of children with congenital heart disease admitted to the Departmental University Hospital of Borgou/alibori (CHUD-B/A) from 2011 to 2022. Methods: This descriptive longitudinal study with analytical aims covered 11 years (April 1, 2011 to December 31, 2022). It consisted of a review of the records of children under 15 years of age with echocardiographically confirmed congenital heart disease. This was followed by an interview with the parents to assess the children’s current condition. Data were entered using Kobocollect software and analyzed using R Studio 4.2.2. software. Results: A total of 143 complete files were retained. The median age at diagnosis was 14 months (IIQ: Q1 = 4;Q3 = 60) with a range of 2 days and 175 months, and the sex-ratio (M/F) was 0.96. Left-to-right shunts were the most frequent cardiopathy group (62.9%). Only 35 children (24.5%) benefited from restorative treatment. The mortality rate was 31.5%. Median survival under the maximum bias assumption was 114 months and 216 months under the assumption of minimum bias. Survival was significantly better in children with right-to-left shunts (p = 0.0049) under the assumption of minimum bias. The death risk factors were: age at diagnosis less than 12 months (aHR = 7.58;95% CI = 3.36 - 17.24;p Conclusion: The long-term mortality of congenital heart disease is high and favoured by the absence of restorative treatment. Local correction of congenital heart disease and medical follow-up will help to reduce this mortality.

Determination of gamma-ray parameters for polyethylene glycol of different molecular weights

Mass attenuation coefficient(μ_m) for polyethylene glycol(PEG) of different molecular weights was determined by using NaI(Tl) scintillator and Win Xcom mixture rule at gamma energies of 59.5, 302.9, 356.0, 661.7, 1173.2 and 1332.5 keV. The total atomic, molecular and electronic cross sections, half-value layer, effective atomic and electron numbers, mass energy-absorption coefficients and kerma relative to air are calculated. The energy and compositional dependence of μ_m values, and the related radiation absorption parameters, are evaluated and discussed. The experimental results agree well with the theoretical ones, within an uncertainty of 1% in the effective atomic number for all PEG samples at the designated energies.

A novel maximum power-point tracking approach is proposed based on studies investigating the output characteristics of photovoltaic(PV)systems under partial shading *** existence of partially shaded conditions leads to the presence of several peaks on PV curves,which decrease the efficiency of conventional ***,the proposed algorithm,which is based on the modified particle-swarm optimization(MPSO)technique,increases the output power of PV systems under such abnormal conditions and has a better performance compared to other *** proposed method is examined under several scenarios for partial shading condition and non-uniform irradiation levels using Matlab,and to investigate its effectiveness adequately,the results of the proposed method are compared with those of the neural network *** experimental results show that the proposed method can decrease the interference of the local maximum power-point to cause the PV system to operate at a global maximum *** efficiency of the MPSO is achieved with the least number of steady-state oscillations under partial shading conditions compared with the neural network method.

Small for size syndrome difficult dilemma: Lessons from 10 years single centre experience in living donor liver transplantation

AIM To analyze the incidence, risk factors, prevention, treatment and outcome of small for size syndrome(SFSS) after living donor liver transplantation(LDLT). METHODS Through-out more than 10 years: During the period from April 2003 to the end of 2013, 174 adult-to-adults LDLT(A-alDLT) had been performed at National Liver Institute, Menoufiya University, Shibin Elkoom, Egypt. We collected the data of those patients to do this cohort study that is a single-institution retrospective analysis of a prospectively collected database analyzing the incidence, risk factors, prevention, treatment and outcome of SFSS in a period started from the end of 2013 to the end of 2015. The median period of follow-up reached 40.50 m, range(0-144 m). RESULTS SFSS was diagnosed in 20(11.5%) of our recipients. While extra-small graft [small for size graft(SFSG)], portal hypertension, steatosis and left lobe graft were significant predictors of SFSS in univariate analysis(P = 0.00, 0.04, 0.03, and 0.00 respectively); graft size was the only independent predictor of SFSS on multivariate analysis(P = 0.03). On the other hand, there was lower incidence of SFSS in patients with SFSG who underwent splenectomy [4/10(40%) SFSS vs 3/7(42.9%) no SFSS] but without statistical significance, However, there was none significant lower incidence of the syndrome in patients with right lobe(RL) graft when drainage of the right anterior and/or posterior liver sectors by middle hepatic vein, V5, V8, and/or right inferior vein was done [4/10(28.6%) SFSS vs 52/152(34.2%) no SFSS]. The 6-mo, 1-, 3-, 5-, 7-and 10-year survival in patients with SFSS were 30%, 30%, 25%, 25%, 25% and 25% respectively, while, the 6-mo, 1-, 3-, 5-, 7-and 10-year survival in patients without SFSS were 70.1%, 65.6%, 61.7%, 61%, 59.7%, and 59.7% respectively, with statistical significant difference(P = 0.00). Analysis of immune responses against H pylori in rabbits

AIM： To investigate the immunogenicity of H pylori proteins, to evaluate the production rate of anti H pylori IgG antibodies in relation to time and to demonstrate the fidelity of newly optimized in-house enzymelinked immunosorbent assay （ELISA） technique as an alternative for H pylori infection assay. METHODS： In the present study, 100 μg of formalinfixed H pylori whole cell antigens was injected into an experimental animal （New Zealand white female rabbit） intramuscularly on d 0, 16, 27 and 35. The first two doses were injected with adjuvants. On d 0, a serum sample was collected from the rabbit before immunization and this pre-immunized serum was used as a negative control for the whole study. To evaluate the immunogenic responses of the injected antigen, serum samples were collected from the rabbit at regular intervals up to d 42. The sera were analyzed using inhouse ELISA and Western blot techniques.RESULTS： The production of anti Hpylor/IgG antibodies in the rabbit in response to the injected antigen increased almost exponentially up to d 14 and after that it was maintained at the same level until the last day （d 42）. By analyzing the immune profiles of immunized sera, 11 proteins were identified to be immunogenic, among them 2 （approximately 100 kDa and 85 kDa） were most prominent. CONCLUSION： Analysis of the immune responses against pathogenic microorganisms like H py/ori is necessary for the development of various diagnostic and preventive approaches. The results of this experiment reveal that the formalin-fixed H pylori whole cell antigens injected into the rabbit are highly immunogenic. These prominent proteins （approximately 100 kDa and 85 kDa） might have higher immunogenic effects among humans infected with H pylori and some of these immunogenic proteins can be included in diagnostic approaches based on serology and also for vaccine formulation. The in- house ELISA is a promising alternative compared to invasive techniques.
