The development of bi-functional electrocatalyst with high catalytic activity and stable performance for both oxygen evolution/reduction reactions(OER/ORR)in aqueous alkaline solution is key to realize practical application of zinc-air batteries(ZABs).In this study,we reported a new porous nano-micro-composite as a bifunctional electrocatalyst for ZABs,devised by the in situ growth of metal-organic framework(MOF)nanocrystals onto the micrometersized Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3(BSCF)perovskite *** carbonization,MOF was converted to porous nitrogen-doped carbon nanocages and ultrafine cobalt oxides and CoN4 nanoparticles dispersing inside the carbon nanocages,which further anchored on the surface of BSCF *** homogeneously dispersed BSCF perovskite particles in the surfactant;subsequently,ZIF-67 nanocrystals were grown onto the BSCF *** this way,leaching of metallic or organic species in MOFs and the aggregation of BSCF were effectively suppressed,thus maximizing the number of active sites for improving *** BSCF in turn acted as catalyst to promote the graphitization of carbon during pyrolysis,as well as to optimize the transition metal-tocarbon ratio,thus enhancing the ORR catalytic activity.A ZAB fabricated from such air electrode showed outstanding performance with a potential gap of only 0.83 V at 5 mA cm-2 for OER/***,no obvious performance degradation was observed for the continuous charge-discharge operation for 1800 cycles over an extended period of 300 h.

Quantitative Comparison of Calcium Hydroxide Removal by EndoActivator, Ultrasonic and ProTaper File Agitation Techniques: An in vitro Study

Calcium hydroxide （CH） dressing residues can compromise endodontic sealing. This study aimed to evaluate the amount of remaining CH in root canals after mechanical removal by four groups of irrigation techniques including needle irrigation only, ProTaper file, EndoActivator, and ultrasonic file. Fifteen extracted single-rooted teeth were collected and used for all four groups. The samples were firstly prepared by ProTaper rotary instruments, and then sectioned longitudinally through the long axis of the root canals, followed by final reassembling by wires. CH was kept in the canals for 7 days setting. The removal procedure began with 5 mL of 2.5% sodium hypochlorite （NaOC1） followed by 1 mL of 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid and a final irrigation with 5 mL of 2.5% NaOC1 solution for all groups. No additional agitation of the irrigant was performed in group 1, while agitation for 20 s be- tween irrigants was done with F2 ProTaper rotary file in group 2, EndoActivator with tip size 25/.04 in group 3 and by an ultrasonic file 25/.02 in group 4. The total activation time was 60 s. The roots were then disassembled and captured by digital camera. The ratio of CH coated surface area to the surface area of the whole canal as well as each third of the canal was calculated. The data were statistically ana- lyzed by one-way ANOVA using post hoc Tukey test. Results showed that none of the four techniques could remove all CH. No significant difference was found between EndoActivator and ultrasonic tech- niques. However, they both removed significantly more CH than ProTaper and needle irrigation （P=0.0001）. In conclusion, the sonic and ultrasonic agitation techniques were more effective in removing intracanal medicaments than the ProTaper rotary file and needle irrigation in all thirds of the canal.

Prediction of promiscuous T cell epitopes in RNA dependent RNA polymerase of Chikungunya virus

Objective: To explore RNA dependent RNA polymerase of Chikungunya virus(CHIKV) and develop T cell based epitopes with high antigenicity and good binding affinity for the human leukocyte antigen(HLA) classes as targets for epitopes based CHIKV vaccine. Methods: In this study we downloaded 371 non-structural protein 4 protein sequences of CHIKV belonging to different regions of the world from the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases(NIAID) virus pathogen resource database. All the sequences were aligned by using CLUSTALW software and a consensus sequence was developed by using Uni Pro U Gene Software version 1.2.1. PropredⅠand Propred software were used to predict HLAⅠ and HLAⅡ binding promiscuous epitopes from the consensus sequence of non-structural protein 4 protein. The predicted epitopes were analyzed to determine their antigenicity through Vaxijen server version 2.0. All the HLAⅠ binding epitopes were scanned to determine their immunogenic potential through the Immune Epitope Database(IEDB). All the predicted epitopes of our study were fed to IEDB database to determine whether they had been tested earlier. Results: Twenty two HLA class Ⅱ epitopes and eight HLA classⅠepitopes were predicted. The promiscuous epitopes WMNMEVKII at position 486–494 and VRRLNAVLL at 331–339 were found to bind with 37 and 36 of the 51 HLA class Ⅱ alleles respectively. Epitope MANRSRYQS at position 58–66 and epitopes YQSRKVENM at positions 64–72 were predicted to bind with 12 and 9 HLAⅠI alleles with antigenicity scores of 0.754 9 and 1.013 0 respectively. Epitope YSPPINVRL was predicted to bind 18 HLAⅠ alleles and its antigenicity score was 1.425 9 and immunogenicity score was 0.173 83. This epitope is very useful in the preparation of a universal vaccine against CHIKV infection. Conclusions: Epitopes reported in this study showed promiscuity, antigenicity as well as good binding affinity for the HLA classes. These epitopes will provide the baseline for development

How Do Urbanization and Urban Agglomeration Affect CO2 Emissions in South Asia? Testing Non-Linearity Puzzle with Dynamic STIRPAT Model

The issue of urbanization has gained much importance over the last few decades due to its significant influence on economic growth and environmental quality, especially in developing countries. The non-linearity puzzle has been a long-debated issue, and prior studies provide mixed evidence. This study addresses the issue of urbanization using the measure of urban agglomeration and investigates the non-linear relation between urbanization and CO2emissions at the regional level. The South Asian region represents approximately one-fourth of the world population and its urbanization needs to be addressed properly. This paper uses the annual data over the period of 1974–2014 for four South Asian countries, namely, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Nepal. The panel cointegration tests establish the long-run relation between urbanization, urban agglomeration, economic growth, trade openness, energy consumption, financial development,and CO2emissions. The fully modified ordinary least squares（FMOLS） model further confirms the existence of Environmental Kuznets Curve（EKC） in South Asia. Moreover, urbanization has an inverted U-shaped relation with CO2emissions, while urban agglomeration has a Ushaped nexus with CO2emissions for overall sample. The bidirectional causal relationship has also been confirmed between urbanization and CO2emissions, between urban agglomeration and CO2emissions, between financial development and CO2emissions both in the long-run and short-run. On the other hand, unidirectional causality runs from economic growth, trade openness, and energy consumption to CO2emissions in the long-run. The rising trend of urban agglomeration in metropolitan cities in South Asia is adversely affecting the environment. Thecurrent study has implications for policymakers and respective governments to adhere to more stringent urban planning.

Canted antiferromagnetic and optical properties of nanostructures of Mn_2O_3 prepared by hydrothermal synthesis

We have reported new magnetic and optical properties of Mn2O3 nanostructures. The nanostructures have been synthesized by the hydrothermal method combined with the adjustment of pH values in the reaction system. The particular characteristics of the nanostructures have been analyzed by employing X-Ray diffraction （XRD）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, energy dispersive X-ray （EDX） analysis, transmission electron microscopy （TEM）, high resolution transmission electron microscopy （HRTEM）, Raman spectroscopy （RS）, UV-visible spectroscopy, and the vibrating sample magnetometer （VSM）. Structural investigation manifests that the synthesized Mn2O3 nanostructures are orthorhombic crystal. Magnetic investigation indicates that the Mn2O3 nanostructures are antiferromagnetic and the antiferromagnetic transition temperature is at TN = 83 K. Furthermore, the Mn2O3 nanostructures possess canted antiferromagnetic order below the Neel temperature due to spin frustration, resulting in hysteresis with large coercivity （1580 Oe） and remnant magnetization （1.52 emu/g）. The UV-visible spectrophotometry was used to determine the transmittance behaviour of Mn203 nanostructures. A direct optical band gap of 1.2 eV was acquired by using the Davis-Mott model. The UV-visible spectrum indicates that the absorption is prominent in the visible region, and transparency is more than 80% in the UV region.

Protective effect of capsaicin against methyl methanesulphonate induced toxicity in the third instar larvae of transgenic Drosophila melanogaster(hsp70-lacZ)Bg9

Capsaicin(trans-8-methyl-N-vanillyl-6-nonenamide) is the main component in hot peppers, including red chili peppers, alapenos, and habanero, belonging to the genus Capsicum. Capsaicin is a potent antioxidant that interferes with free radical activities. In the present study, the possible protective effect of capsaicin was studied against methyl methanesulphonate(MMS) induced toxicity in third instar larvae of transgenic Drosophila melanogaster(hsp70-lacZ)Bg^9. The third instar was allowed to feed on the diet having different doses of capsaicin and MMS separately and in combination. The results suggested that the exposure of third instar larvae to the diet having MMS alone showed significant hsp70 expression as well as tissue DNA and oxidative damage, whereas the larvae feed on the diet having MMS and capsaicin showed a decrease in the toxic effects for 48-h of exposure. In conclusion, capsaicin showed a dose-dependent decrease in the toxic effects induced by MMS in the third instar larvae of transgenic Drosophila melanogaster.

Plant extract-loaded bacterial cellulose composite membrane for potential biomedical applications

Bacterial cellulose(BC)has been extensively explored as biomaterial for various biomedical applications owing to its non-toxic nature and unique structural morphology and impressive physicochemical and mechanical ***,its high production cost and lack of antimicrobial activity have restricted its large-scale production and therapeutic ***,the current study is aimed to devise a strategy for low-cost BC production and develop its composite with bioactive materials to bless it with antimicrobial ***,5 mm thick reticulated fibrous and highly porous BC was produced by utilizing the wasted rotten tomatoes as the production *** produced bacterial cellulose waste(BCW)(i.e.,produced from wastes)was ex-situ modified with bioactive plant extract(PE)obtained from Euclea schimperi,and the bactericidal activity of the developed BCW/PE was evaluated against Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and Gram-negative Escherichia coli through disc diffusion and colony forming unit(CFU)count *** BCW/PE composite showed high bactericidal activities against *** and produced clear inhibition zone whereas negligible activity was observed against ***,indicating its bactericidal activity mainly against the Gram-positive ***,this study illustrates that there is a huge potential for developing valuable biomaterials from food wastes and utilizing their liquid holding capabilities for value-added applications in medical and pharmaceutical fields.

Predictors of response to antiviral therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis C from Pakistani population

Background Hepatitis C virus （HCV） constitutes a major public health issue around the world, especially in developing countries like Pakistan. In this study, we assessed outcome of interferon （INF） treatment in chronic hepatitis C patients categorized by gender, age, and viral *** In this study, 750 HCV positive patients with genotype 3 were selected, out of which 616 completed the entire treatment. Their personal history, pro-treatment HCV RNA and serum alanine transaminase （ALT） was *** were treated with combination therapy of INF-α 2b three million units （thrice a week） plus ribavirin （1000-1200mg per day） for 24 weeks. After 24 weeks their HCV RNA and serum ALT level was *** Out of the 616 patients, 391 （63.5%） responded to therapeutic regimen （INF-α 2b plus ribavirin）. Among the responders, 27.1% were men and 36.4% were women. Best treatment response was observed in patients having Iow viral load ＜8×105 IU/ml and age ≤40 years than patients having Iow viral load and age ＞40 years （73.2% vs. 60.3%, P=0.05）.Conclusions Better response to IFN-α 2b plus ribavirin was observed in patients with lower viral RNA and younger *** suggests that all patients considered for treatment should have quantification of serum HCV RNA level. The result can be used to counsel patients on the likelihood of response and may influence the patient＇s decision on treatment.
