The collapse of the B1 Dam of VALESAmining company in Brumadinho,Minas Gerais,Brazil was the largest humanitarian disaster and occupational accident in the country’s history,and it posed challenges regarding the management and identification of multiple *** evaluated the impact of the iron ore tailings on the victims’*** examined the scientific identification of the victims and the dynamics of the disaster over the 1st year after it *** also determined the socio-demographic profiles of the *** this retrospective,cross-sectional study,we investigated the expert reports of the victims’biological remains from 25 January 2019 to 25 January *** analysed the socio-demographic data,identification methods,identification status,identification time,and necroscopic *** the study period,259 of 270 victims were identified,and 603 biological materials were analysed;among them,86.2%were body parts and 13.8%were whole *** the total cases registered that year,476(78.9%)were submitted during the first 10 weeks after the *** ridge analysis accounted for 67.9%of primary identifications and DNAanalysis did so for 91.6%of re-identification *** dismemberment was 3.4 times greater among mine workers than among community *** males accounted for the greatest number of victims(P<0.001).Polytraumatic injury was the prevalent single cause of *** examination revealed the occurrence of asphyxia in 7%of *** higher number of fatalities and greater dismemberment among employees than with community residents underlines the occupational dangers in the mining industry and clarifies the dynamics of the *** the initial weeks after the dam collapsed,friction ridge analysis was the most appropriate method for ***,DNAanalysis became the most-used technique for identification and re-identification owing to the great volume of body parts and decomposed biological ***

Epidemio-toxicological profile of suicide cases:analysis from a forensic unit in Brazil

The suicide phenomenon involves complex interactions between psychological,biological,cultural and socio-environmental *** study aimed to assess the epidemiological and toxicological profiles of officially confirmed suicide *** study was performed using autopsy reports,forensic anthropology examinations and police summaries of all suicide cases that underwent toxicological analysis at an Official Forensic Laboratory(Minas Gerais,Brazil)in 1 *** sample set was composed of 351 suicide victims,predominantly men(70.32%),most of them were adults between 31 and 64 years old(62.11%),with mixed skin colour(48.89%)and low educational level(66.44%).The most common suicide method was hanging(57.79%),followed by intoxication(30.45%).Most victims presented positive toxicological results(56.41%),especially for the presence of medicines(37.6%),illicit drugs(36.3%)and pesticides(26.1%).Our study corroborated previous data that most suicide victims have low educational *** most common toxicological findings were medicines,especially prescription drugs,followed by illicit drugs and *** hope this study contributes to reflections and planning of preventive suicide programmes,considering the described profiles of victims.

Multidirectional 3D printed functionally graded modular joint actuated by TCPFL muscles for soft robots

Highly deformable bodies are essential for numerous types of applications in all sorts of environments. Joint-like structures comprising a ball and socket joint have many degrees of freedom that allow mobility of many biomimetic structures. Recently, soft robots are favored over rigid structures for their highly compliant material, high-deformation properties at low forces, and ability to operate in di fficult environments. However, it is still challenging to fabricate complex designs that satisfy application constraints due to the combined e ffects of material properties, actuation method, and structural geometry on the performance of the soft robot. Therefore, a combination of a rigid joint and a soft body can help achieve modular robots with fully functional body morphology. Yet, the fabrication of soft parts requires extensive molding for complex shapes, which comprises several processes and can be time-consuming. In addition, molded connections between extremely soft materials and hard materials can be critical failing points. In this paper, we present a functionally graded 3D-printed joint-like structure actuated by novel contractile actuators. Functionally graded materials (FGMs) via 3D printing allow for extensive material property enhancement and control which warrant tunable functionalities of the system. The 3D-printed structure is made of 3 rigid ball and socket joints connected in series and actuated by integrating twisted and coiled polymer fishing line ( TCPFL) actuators, which are con fined in the FGM accordion-shaped channels. The implementation of the untethered T CPFL actuation system can be highly bene ficial for deployment in environments that require low vibrations and silent actuation. The fishing line TCP actuators produce an actuation strain up to 40% and bend the joint up to 40° in any direction. Irrigation and Thermal Buffering Using Mathematical Modeling

Two methods of irrigation,drip,and sprinkler were studied to determine the response of the Javits green roof to *** control study was dry unirrigated *** irrigation consisted of irrigation tubes running through the green roof that would water the soil throughout and sprinkler irrigation used a sprinkler system to irrigate the green roof from *** all cases,the irrigated roofs had increased the soil moisture,reduced temperatures of both the upper and lower surfaces,reduced growing medium temperatures and reduced air temperatures above the green roof relative to the unirrigated *** buffered temperature fluctuations were also studied via air conditioner energy *** was a 28%reduction in air conditioner energy consumption and a 33%reduction in overall energy consumption between dry and irrigated *** of thermal resistance or S were determined for accuracy and for this study,there was little change which is ideal.A series of infra-red and thermal probe measurements were used to determine temperatures in the air and *** was determined that the sprinkler irrigation did a better job than the drip irrigation in keeping cooler temperatures within the green roof.A Mann-Whitney U test was performed to verify the variation in moisture temperatures buffering energy *** getting a p-value<0.05,it indicates that the model is accurate for prediction and medium temperatures were statistically different.

Transthoracic echo: A sensitive tool for detecting cardiac extension of renal cell carcinoma?

Renal cell carcinoma is a common urological malignancy with the unique ability to invade the inferior vena cava(IVC) and to extend into the right atrium of the heart. Of those with Renal cell carcinoma only 4%-25% are found to have IVC invasion and of those only 2%-10% extend into the right atrium. If treated surgically, extension of tumor thrombus is not a determinant of survival; therefore it is imperative to determine the presence and extent of tumor thrombus in order to determine surgical approach and tumor resection. To date this has been primarily accomplished by magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography. We present a case of 61 years old African American woman in which transthoracic echocardiography provided a more accurate determination/characterization of the presence and degree of tumor thrombus and extension.

Budd-Chiari syndrome associated with coeliac disease:case report and literature review

We report a case of Budd-Chiari syndrome occurring in a patient with coeliac disease,who presented with symptoms of increased abdominal girth,right upper quadrant pain and shortness of breath for three weeks prior to *** assessment revealed the presence of moderate ascites,hepatosplenomegaly and right-sided pleural *** diagnostic work-up established a diagnosis of chronic Budd-Chiari ***,complete screening for pro-thrombotic factors was negative.A review of the literature on this association disclosed only 28 similar cases,with the majority of them describing individuals of North African ***,in the majority of cases no specific thrombotic factor could be identified,suggesting that coeliac disease may play a role in this thrombotic disorder.

Keratoconus is a non-inflammatory disorder which is gradual in development;corneal thinning and ectatic protrusion characterizes it. Keratoconus prevalence varies between different regions depending on several factors that affecting its prevalence. There are risk factors for developing keratoconus such as demographic and environmental factors. It was suggested that eye rubbing was associated with the development of keratoconus. The main aim of this review was to summarize the literature data about keratoconus and to identify the role of eyerubbing in the aetiology of the disease. A number of 24 articles was reviewed through the Pub Med, Google Scholar and Research Gates. There are many keywords used such as keratoconus, aetiology of keratoconus, eye rubbing, keratoconus prevalence, keratoconus and eye rubbing correlation. We concluded that eye rubbing causes the thinning of keratocyte, and the degree of effect of eye rubbing depends on the period and force of performing eye rubbing. It is recommended to avoid eye rubbing to prevent keratoconus, this can be achieved by avoiding itching and treating dryness of the eye and avoiding wearing eye lenses.

基于中东地区某陆上碳酸盐岩油藏8年的开发数据以及超过37口井的试井和测井数据,经数据收集和准备、模型建立、模型训练和验证、模型应用4个主要步骤,开发了该油藏的自顶向下模型(TDM),并利用该模型进行了产量预测和敏感性分析。该TDM包含5个相互连接的数据驱动人工神经网络模型,每个神经网络对一个关键的动态参数进行建模,一个模型的输出是下一个模型的输入。该TDM历史拟合效果较好,在时间和空间上均得到了验证,TDM应用于新数据时具有泛化能力并且可以准确预测3个月内的油藏动态。使用经过历史拟合和验证的TDM进行产量预测,结果表明在给定的操作条件下,随着时间的延续,该油藏产油量下降而产水量增加;通过改变水气交替注入的注入量、注入周期预测产量,结果表明,该油田提高注入量并不一定会使产油量增加,不同注入方案下注入周期为3个月的产油量比注入周期为6个月时更高。TDM为优化水气交替注入参数提供了一种快速而可靠的办法,同时能够优化加密井的位置及其深度。
