Impact of Initial Soil Conditions on Soil Hydrothermal and Surface Energy Fluxes in the Permafrost Region of the Tibetan Plateau

Accurate initial soil conditions play a crucial role in simulating soil hydrothermal and surface energy fluxes in land surface process *** study emphasized the influence of the initial soil temperature(ST)and soil moisture(SM)conditions on a land surface energy and water simulation in the permafrost region in the Tibetan Plateau(TP)using the Community Land Model version 5.0(CLM5.0).The results indicate that the default initial schemes for ST and SM in CLM5.0 were simplistic,and inaccurately represented the soil characteristics of permafrost in the TP which led to underestimating ST during the freezing period while overestimating ST and underestimating SLW during the thawing period at the XDT *** the long-term spin-up method to obtain initial soil conditions has only led to limited improvement in simulating soil hydrothermal and surface energy *** modified initial soil schemes proposed in this study comprehensively incorporate the characteristics of permafrost,which coexists with soil liquid water(SLW),and soil ice(SI)when the ST is below freezing temperature,effectively enhancing the accuracy of the simulated soil hydrothermal and surface energy ***,the modified initial soil schemes greatly improved upon the results achieved through the long-term spin-up *** modified initial soil schemes experiments resulted in a 64%,88%,and 77%reduction in the average mean bias error(MBE)of ST,and a 13%,21%,and 19%reduction in the average root-mean-square error(RMSE)of SLW compared to the default simulation ***,the average MBE of net radiation was reduced by 7%,22%,and 21%.

Mechanistic insights into the processes of the initial stage of electrolyte degradation in lithium metal batteries

The lithium(Li)metal batteries(LMBs)are considered one of the most promising next-generation batteries due to its extremely high theoretical specific ***,there are a couple of issues,e.g.,the serious side reactions that occurred at the solid-liquid interface between the electrolyte and Li metal anode,hindering the broad commercialization of ***,a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms underlying the decomposition of electrolytes is crucial to the design of ***,we utilize density functional theory simulations to explore the decomposition mechanism of *** most commonly used ether electrolyte solvents,i.e.,1,2-dimethoxyethane(DME)and 1,3-dioxalane(DOL),based on suitable lithium salts,namely bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide(LiTFSI),are chosen to model the actual *** explicitly demonstrate that an electron-rich environment near the interface accelerates the decomposition of *** ether electrolytes,we show that the LiTFSI degradation path is depending on the ratio of DOL to *** addition,the solvation structures of lithium-ion undergo a series of transformations upon electrolyte degradation,becoming thermodynamically more favorable and having a higher reduction potential in an electron-rich *** finding provides new insights into the decomposition mechanisms of electrolytes and paves the way for the rational design of high-performance LMBs.

Structural Control of the Getang Carlin-Type Gold Deposit in Southwest China

The Getang is a representative Carlin-type gold deposit in Southwest *** has a proven reserve of about 30 tonnes at an average grade of 5.1 g/t *** orebodies occur as strat-abound lenses,and are structurally controlled by shallow NWW-and NE-trending fold-fault systems and the unconformity between the Upper and Middle *** this study,the regional-and deposit-scale structural investigations,joints and finite strain measurements,and stress and dynamic analysis were conducted with an aim to reveal the structural process of the Getang gold deposit and clarify the relationship between the gold mineralization and *** phases of deformation were identified in the deposit:(1)paleokarst was generated by a crustal uplift when the Youjiang Basin experienced extension at the end of the Middle Permian,laying the foundation for the unconformity;(2)the NW-trending structures were formed under a NNE-SSW compression during the Indochina-South China collision(Indosinian orogeny)in Triassic;(3)the NE-trending structures were generated or reactivated under a NW-SE-oriented compression during the Yanshanian intracontinental *** unconformity recorded two episodes of tectonic evolution in the NNE-SSW and NW-SE *** analyses and geochronology data suggest that the Getang gold deposit was formed as a result of tectonic transition from compression to extension during the Yanshanian intracontinental orogeny.

Defects in the grain interiors of 3 mol%yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal ceramics with 0.25 wt%alumina

The presence of high-density defects is rarely observed in bulk 3 mol%yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal(3Y-TZP)ceramics obtained through conventional pressureless *** the present work,fine-grained dense 147 nm 3Y-TZP ceramics were prepared by pressureless sintering of commercial 0.25 wt%alumina-doped zirconia powders at 1300℃.A novel discovery was reported in which large amounts of defects were present in the grain interiors of the *** phenomenon was further examined using three types of powder samples,and the reasons for defect formation were investigated by microstructural characterization using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM)analysis and Rietveld *** results confirmed the essential dependence of the defect formation on the alumina *** authors attributed the defect formation to the significant difference in ionic radii of the solvent and solute during the dissolution of alumina into the zirconia *** sintering kinetics were proposed to be enhanced by the presence of substantial defects,which consequently favored the low-temperature sintering of the alumina-doped zirconia ceramics.

Generic attacks on small-state stream cipher constructions in the multi-user setting

Small-state stream ciphers(SSCs),which violate the principle that the state size should exceed the key size by a factor of two,still demonstrate robust security properties while maintaining a lightweight *** ciphers can be clas-sifed into several constructions and their basic security requirement is to resist generic attacks,ie.,the time-mem-ory-data tradeoff(TMDTO)*** this paper,we investigate the security of small-state constructions in the multi-user *** on it,the TMDTO distinguishing attack and the TMDTO key recovery attack are developed for such a *** is shown that SSCs which continuously use the key can not resist the TMDTO distinguishing ***,SSCs based on the continuous-IV-key-use construction cannot withstand the TMDTO key recovery attack when the key length is shorter than the IV length,no matter whether the keystream length is limited or ***,We apply these two generic attacks to TinyJAMBU and DRACO in the multi-user *** TMDTO distinguish-ing attack on TinyJAMBU with a 128-bit key can be mounted with time,memory,and data complexities of 264,248,and 232,*** attack is comparable with a recent work on ToSC 2022,where partial key bits of TinyJAMBU are recovered with more than 250 users(or keys).As DRACO's IV length is smaller than its key length,itis vulnerable to the TMDTO key recovery *** resulting attack has a time and memory complexity of both 2112,which means DRACO does not provide 128-bit security in the multi-user setting.

Strong ferroelectric and luminescence properties of 0-3 type 0.8BaTiO_(3)-0.2CaTiO_(3):Pr^(3+)composite ceramics prepared by cold sintering process

0-3 type ferroelectric-phosphor composite ceramics cannot be prepared by the traditional solid-state sintering(SSS)method due to the strong chemical reaction between ferroelectrics and phosphors during high-temperature *** cold sintering process(CSP)may solve this issue by densifying ceramics at ultralow sintering *** this work,dense 0-3 type 0.8BaTiO_(3)-0.2CaTiO_(3):Pr^(3+)(0.8BT-0.2CT:Pr^(3+))binary composite ceramics were fabricated at an ultralow temperature of 225℃via CSP with the Ba(OH)2·8H2O hydrated *** effects of the Ba(OH)_(2)·8H2O content,sintering temperature,and sintering time on the microstructure and densification of the ceramics were *** density of the composite ceramics prepared by the optimized sintering parameters reaches 89%.Both energy-dispersive X-ray(EDX)spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction(XRD)confirm the existence of BT and CT:Pr^(3+)phases in the prepared ceramics.A strong ferroelectric performance is obtained,and the luminescent properties of CT:Pr^(3+)are preserved for the ***,the 0.8BT-0.2CT:Pr^(3+)composite ceramics prepared by CSP have stronger photoluminescence and photo-stimulated luminescence than their counterparts prepared by cold sintering assistance(CSA)and SSS ***,CSP is a promising method for combining luminescent and ferroelectric properties into 0-3 type composite ceramics.

Protonic solid oxide electrolysis cells(P-SOECs)operating at intermediate temperatures,which have low costs,low environmental impact,and high theoretical electrolysis efficiency,are considered promising next-generation energy conversion devices for green hydrogen ***,the developments and applications of P-SOECs are restricted by numerous material-and interface-related issues,including carrier mismatch between the anode and electrolyte,current leakage in the electrolyte,poor interfacial contact,and chemical *** the past few decades,considerable attempts have been made to address these issues by improving the properties of *** review comprehensively explores the recent advances in the mechanisms governing steam electrolysis in P-SOECs,optimization strategies,specially designed components,electrochemical performance,and *** particular,given that the lack of suitable anode materials has significantly impeded P-SOEC development,the relationships between the transferred carriers and the cell performance,reaction models,and surface decoration approaches are meticulously ***,the challenges hindering P-SOEC development are discussed and recommendations for future research directions,including theoretical calculations and simulations,structural modification approaches,and large-scale single-cell fabrication,are proposed to stimulate research on P-SOECs and thereby realize efficient electricity-to-hydrogen conversion.
