Effects of sesame nectar on longevity and fecundity of seven lepidoptera and survival of four parasitoid species commonly found in agricultural ecosystems

Ecological engineering involves the use of plants to promote establishment, survival and efficiency of natural enemies in agricultural systems. Some plant species may be hosts or provide resources to some pest species. We assessed the risks and benefits of sesame （Sesamum indicum l.）, as a nectar source for seven economically important lepidopteran pest and four parasitoid species in a range of vegetable crop systems. Our results showed that the mean Iongevities of arthropod parasitoids Pteromalus puparum （l.）, Encarsia sophia （Girault ＆ Dodd） and male Microplitis tuberculifer （Wesmael） were significantly extended when fed on sesame flowers compared to the water control. Sesame flowers had no effect on adult Iongevities and fecundities of six out of the seven lepidoptera pest species tested except Plutella xyllostella （l.） females laid more eggs when fed on sesame flowers. It is likely that the increased fecundity is due to accessibility to nectar at the bottom of corolla because of their smaller body sizes. Our findings provide a first step towards better understanding of the risks and benefits of using sesame to implement ecological engineering for the management of vegetable pests.

The plasma transferred arc （PTA） forming remanufacturing technology was introduced in this paper. This technology includes plasma surfacing, deposition and rapid forming technology. With self-developed plasma forming system, the thrust of engine cylinder body was remanufactured by PTA powder surfacing. In the concrete, the Nil5 alloy was deposited on the thrust face of the body in order to recover its dimension. In addition, the reman- ufacturing forming with Fe-based, Inconel 625 alloy was studied. The microstructure and hardness of the as-depos- ited materials were investigated.

This study was to supply the systemic and full milking process data to support the implementation of both dairy herd improvement （DHI） and digital feeding of dairy cattle. This study designed the relational structured database and developed a set of digital management information system on milking process of intensive dairy farm using Visual Basic 6.0, Access databases, and Crystal report combining the milking characteristics of a grown cow, such as quality and sanitation testing indexes of raw milk. The system supplies a series of convenient, intelligent input interfaces of crude datum, and can count, analyze, and graphically show milking datum based on different types and different parities of cows or herds in a specific duration, and can dynamically produce some important derived data, such as days of grown cow, daily average of milk production of grown cow, days of cow milk production, and daily average of milking cow production; and can carry out all-pervasive data mining. With the help of system analysis and software design techniques, it is possible to realize precision farming for a dairy cattle herd based on whole digital management of milking process and realtime prediction on nutrient requirements and ration of dairy cattle, as well as dairy herd improvement.

Three warm-rolled ferrite/pearlite microstructures were prepared by rolling at 500℃, and the austenitizing characteristics were discussed in conjunction with deformation during the heating stage. The results indicated that the final austenite grain size was sensitive to the deformation direction of the initial warm-rolled microstructure. The transient microstructure at a given temperature was the most important influencing factor on the austenitizing characteristic combined with deformation. Moreover, the hot-rolled mierostructure also had to be prepared in an optimal state because of its direct effect on the warm-rolled microstructure.

A detailed understanding of the distribution and potential of natural gas hydrate(NGHs)resources is crucial to fostering the industrialization of those resources in the South China Sea,where NGHs are *** this study,this study analyzed the applicability of resource evaluation methods,including the volumetric,genesis,and analogy methods,and estimated NGHs resource potential in the South China Sea by using scientific resource evaluation methods based on the factors controlling the geological accumulation and the reservoir characteristics of ***,this study compared the evaluation results of NGHs resource evaluations in representative worldwise sea areas via rational *** results of this study are as follows:(1)The gas hydrate accumulation in the South China Sea is characterized by multiple sources of gas supply,multi-channel migration,and extensive accumulation,which are significantly different from those of oil and gas and other unconventional resources.(2)The evaluation of gas hydrate resources in the South China Sea is a highly targeted,stratified,and multidisciplinary evaluation of geological resources under the framework of a multi-type gas hydrate resource evaluation system and focuses on the comprehensive utilization of multi-source heterogeneous data.(3)Global NGHs resources is n×10^(15)m^(3),while the NGHs resources in the South China Sea are estimated to be 10^(13)m^(3),which is comparable to the abundance of typical marine NGHs deposits in other parts of the *** the South China Sea,the NGHs resources have a broad prospect and provide a substantial resource base for production tests and industrialization of NGHs.

Effects of imidacloprid and thiamethoxam as seed treatments on the early seedling characteristics and aphid-resistance of oilseed rape

Seed treatments with the neonicotinoid insecticides imidacloprid and thiamethoxam were evaluated to determine whether the chemicals at effective concentrations for aphid control would influence the germination and early growth of oilseed rape,Brassica *** with imidacloprid or thiamethoxam did not affect the cumulative germination rate,but significantly inhibited establishment potential by suppressing root system development in the cotyledon ***,these alterations in seedling development in the thiamethoxam-treated seeds appeared not to be detrimental as leaves developed;in contrast,for the seedlings with imidacloprid as seed treatment agent,a significantly decreased shoot/root ratio was still evident at the late two-leaf *** two leaves developed,chlorophyll content per leaf in the thiamethoxam treatment was significantly higher than that of the control,while chlorophyll content per leaf in the imidacloprid treatment remained close to that in the *** other parameters,i.e.,height,leaf area,weight of stem,leaf or root,and other growth indexes,between the treatments and the control showed no significant ***,it was found that storage time of the treated seeds had a significant effect on cumulative germination *** 30 d before planting significantly reduced germination relative to that of the *** of the plants treated with neonicotinoids were shown to have significant anti-aphid characteristics that persisted until the end of the trial.

Direct laser deposition(DlD),as a popular metal additive manufacturing process,shows advantages of technical flexibility and high efficiency to gain a high-performance alloy steel ***,during the processing of DlD,the deposited steel layer is affected by the subsequent layer *** DlD block shows different microstructure and mechanical properties at the bottom,middle and top of the deposited *** date,there are few research works about the effects of inter-layer interval time and laser power on the microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of the deposited *** this study,the idle time and laser power layer by layer during DlD of 12CrNi2 steel were controlled to cause the deposited layers to maintain a high cooling rate,while the bottom deposited layer was subjected to a weak tempering *** show that a high proportion of martensite is produced,which improves the strength of the deposited *** the laser scanning strategy of laser power 2,500 W,scanning velocity 5 mm·s^(-1),powder feeding rate 11 g·min^(-1),overlap rate 50%,and a laser power difference of 50 W and a 2 min interval,the tensile strength of the deposited layer of 12CrNi2 steel is in the range of 873-1,022 MPa,and the elongation is in the range of 16.2%-18.9%.This study provides a method to reduce the tempering effect of the subsequent deposition layers on the bottom layers,which can increase the proportion of martensite in the low-alloy high-strength steel,so as to improve the yield strength of the alloy steel.

Al_(0.4)CoCrFe_(2)Ni_(2)high-entropy alloys with different additions of TiO_(2) nanoceramic particles(0,1.25vol.%,2.5vol.%,3.75vol.%and 5vol.%,respectively)were prepared by using the vacuum arc melting *** effects of TiO_(2) addition on the crystal structure,microstructures and mechanical properties of the alloy were investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),and tensile *** microstructure analysis shows that the TiO_(2)nano-ceramic particles added in the alloy are decomposed,and a small amount of Al_(2)O_(3)and a great number of intermetallic compounds(γ'phases)with simple cube structure are ***γ'phases are enriched at inter-dendrite,which increases the resistance of dislocation movement during the deformation of the alloy,thus balancing the problem of high plasticity and low strength of the *** the addition of TiO_(2)is 2.5vol.%,the strength of the high-entropy alloy reaches the maximum of 489 MPa,which is 11.1%higher than the matrix alloy composed of single FCC phase.
