Tuning the crystalline and electronic structure of ZrO_(2)via oxygen vacancies and nano-structuring for polysulfides conversion in lithium-sulfur batteries

The recent emergence of tetragonal phases zirconium dioxide(ZrO_(2))with vacancies has generated significant interest as a highly efficient and stable electrocatalyst with potential applications in trapping polysulfides and facilitating rapid conversion in lithium-sulfur batteries(LSBs).However,the reduction of ZrO_(2)is challenging,even under strong reducing atmospheres at high temperatures and pressures.Consequently,the limited presence of oxygen vacancies results in insufficient active sites and reaction interfaces,thereby hindering practical implementation.Herein,we successfully introduced abundant oxygen vacancies into ZrO_(2)at the nanoscale with the help of carbon nanotubes(CNTs-OH)through hydrogen-etching at lower temperatures and pressures.The introduced oxygen vacancies on ZrO_(2-x)/CNTs-OH can effectively rearrange charge distribution,enhance sulfiphilicity and increase active sites,contributing to high ionic and electronic transfer kinetics,strong binding energy and low redox barriers between polysulfides and ZrO_(2-x).These findings have been experimentally validated and supported by theory calculations.As a result,LSBs assembled with the ZrO_(2-x)/CNTs-OH modified separators demonstrate excellent rate performance,superior cycling stability,and ultra-high sulfur utilization.Especially,at high sulfur loading of 6 mg cm^(-2),the area capacity is still up to 6.3 mA h cm^(-2).This work provides valuable insights into the structural and functional optimization of electrocatalysts for batteries.

Acral melanoma(AM)is the most common histologic subtype of melanoma in dark-skinned patients and is associated with a worse prognosis and a high mortality rate,largely due to the inconspicuous nature of early-stage lesions,which can lead to late diagnosis.Because of the overlapping clinical and histopathological features of AM with other forms of cutaneous melanomas,early detection of AM requires a multidisciplinary approach that integrates various diagnostic modalities,including clinical examination,dermoscopy,histopathology,molecular testing,radiological imaging,and blood tests.While surgery is the preferred method of treatment for AM,other therapeutic options may be employed based on the stage and underlying etiology of the disease.Immune checkpoint inhibitors,molecular targeted therapy,radiotherapy,chemotherapy,and oncolytic virotherapy represent promising advanced treatment options for AM.In this review,we provide an overview of the latest advancements in diagnostic and therapeutic methods for AM,highlighting the importance of early detection and the prompt,individualized management of this challenging disease.

The 2016 MW7.8 Kaikoura earthquake struck the northern part of south Island,New Zealand,within the active and complex Australia-Pacific plate boundary system.Firstly,we used the InSAR method to obtain coseismic LOS deformation fields based on SAR images and applied offset tracking methods to obtain offset measurements based on optical satellite images.The maximum displacement of about 6 m is detected in the direction away from the satellite on the south-west side and also towards the satellite on the north-east side.The 3D deformation field is then resolved by the combination of these measurements with a least-square solve method,and comparisons with 3 components of GPS stations show good consistency.Despite complex features demonstrated in the 3D deformation field,there are still clear spatial correlations between surface deformation and faults distribution.It reveals that more than ten faults were ruptured during the earthquake,including some faults were previously understudies for their tectonic activities.The maximum horizontal deformation of about 10 m occurs along the Kekerengu fault with the vertical deformation up to 2 m.The 3D deformation shows that the mainshock is a multisegments faulting with a rupture process of strike-slip,compression,transpressional rupture and strike-slip in space along the NE direction.

There are various walking pavements in daily life.Slip accidents will happen if required friction for safe walking is greater than available friction between the foot and ground surface.Existing researches mostly focus on horizontal or slope pavements,whereas the cross-slope walkways are less.A self-developed gait friction test platform was used to test friction,distribution of plantar pressure and spatiotemporal parameters of human walking under cross-slope condition.With the increase of cross-slope angles,the mediolateral friction increases(R^(2)=0.972,P<0.001),the anterior-posterior friction shows no sig-nificant change(R^(2)=0.758,P=0.017),the normal pressure decreases(R^(2)=0.915,P=0.007),and the high foot is more prone to slip and fall than low foot.Therefore,plantar pressure distribution of both feet was shifted to left.The gait cycle was prolonged(P<0.001),swing period of both feet decreased(P=0.029)and support period increased(P=0.015)with the increase of cross-slope angle.

Liquid nitrogen has shown excellent performances as a good fracturing medium in the extraction of unconventional natural gas,and its application in coalbed methane extraction is currently a research hotspot.This study focuses on the acoustic emission properties of coal specimens treated utilizing liquid nitrogen with varying initial temperatures in a three-point bending environment.Through examination of the load-displacement curves of the considered coal samples,their mechanical properties are also revealed for different initial temperatures and cycling frequencies.The findings demonstrate a gradual decline in the maximum load capacity of coal rock as the temperature rises.Similarly,when subjected to the same temperature,an escalation in the cycling frequency leads to a reduction in the peak load of coal rock.This suggests that both temperature and cycling frequency exert a notable impact on the fracturing efficacy of liquid nitrogen.Freeze-thaw cycling treatments and exposure to high-temperature conditions can activate preexisting damage in the coal rock,and,accordingly,influence its mechanical properties.In particular,throughout the progressive loading of coal rock samples,the failure mechanisms are predominantly characterized by the occurrence of tensile cracks,succeeded by the development,spread,and fracture of shear fissures.

The tree ring has been regarded as an emerging archive to reconstruct historical atmospheric mercury(Hg)trends,but with the large knowledge gaps in the reliability.In this study,we comprehensively evaluated the Hg source,radial translocation and age effect of Masson pine(Pinus massoniana)tree ring at Mt.Jinyun in Chongqing,to assess the suitability of such tree ring as the archive of atmospheric Hg.Results showed that distinct variabilities among Masson pine tree-ring Hg concentration profiles.The Hg concentration significantly increased along with stem height(P<0.05),indicating the Hg in tree rings mainly derived from foliage uptake atmospheric Hg.We found a distinct age effect that the tree ring of young trees had the higher Hg concentration.Besides,we used the advection-diffusion model to demonstrate how Hg concentration shifted by the advection or/and diffusion in tree rings.The modeling results showed that the advection induced radial translocation during the young growth period of tree was a plausible mechanism to result in the tree-ring Hg record largely different from the trend of anthropogenic Hg emissions in Chongqing.We finally suggest that in further Hg dendrochemistry,better discarding the tree-ring Hg profile of the young growth period to reduce impacts of the radial translocation and age effect.

The effective liquid drop model(ELDM)is improved by introducing an accurate nuclear charge radius formula and an analytic expression for assaulting frequency.Within the improved effective liquid drop model(IMELDM),the experimental cluster radioactivity half-lives of the trans-lead region are calculated.It is shown that the accuracy of the IMELDM is improved compared with that of the ELDM.At last,the cluster radioactivity half-lives that are experimentally unavailable for the trans-lead nuclei are predicted by the IMELDM.These predictions may be useful for searching for new candidates for cluster radioactivity in future experiments.

Many real-world applications,including adaptive radar scanning and smart stealth,require reconfigurable multifunctional devices to simultaneously manipulate multiple degrees of freedom of electromagnetic(EM)waves in an on-demand manner.Recently,kirigami technique,affording versatile and unconventional structural transformation,has been introduced to endow metamaterials with the capability of controlling EM waves in a reconfigurable manner.Here,we report for a kirigami-inspired sparse meta-architecture,with structural density of 1.5%in terms of the occupation space,for adaptive invisibility based on independent operations of frequency,bandwidth,and amplitude.Based on the general principle of dipolar management via structural reconstruction of kirigami-inspired meta-architectures,we demonstrate reconfigurable invisibility management with abundant EM functions and a wide tuning range using three enantiomers(A,B,and C)of different geometries characterized by the folding angleβ.Our strategy circumvents issues of limited abilities,narrow tuning range,extreme condition,and high cost raised by available reconfigurable metamaterials,providing a new avenue toward multifunctional smart devices.
