Preliminary geological interpretation of long-wavelength magnetic anomalies over China and surrounding regions

Long-wavelength(>500 km)magnetic anomalies originating in the lithosphere were first found in satellite magnetic surveys.Compared to the striking magnetic anomalies around the world,the long-wavelength magnetic anomalies in China and surrounding regions are relatively weak.Specialized research on each of these anomalies has been quite inadequate;their geological origins remain unclear,in particular their connection to tectonic activity in the Chinese and surrounding regions.We focus on six magnetic high anomalies over the(1)Tarim Basin,(2)Sichuan Basin(3)Great Xing’an Range,(4)Barmer Basin,(5)Central Myanmar Basin,and(6)Sunda and Banda Arcs,and a striking magnetic low anomaly along the southern part of the Himalayan-Tibetan Plateau.We have analyzed their geological origins by reviewing related research and by detailed comparison with geological results.The tectonic backgrounds for these anomalies belong to two cases:either ancient basin basement,or subduction-collision zone.However,the geological origins of large-scale regional magnetic anomalies are always subject to dispute,mainly because of limited surface exposure of sources,later tectonic destruction,and superposition of multi-phase events.

Traditional tumor models do not tend to accurately simulate tumor growth in vitro or enable personalized treatment and are particularly unable to discover more beneficial targeted drugs.To address this,this study describes the use of threedimensional(3D)bioprinting technology to construct a 3D model with human hepatocarcinoma SMMC-7721 cells(3DP-7721)by combining gelatin methacrylate(GelMA)and poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO)as two immiscible aqueous phases to form a bioink and innovatively applying fluorescent carbon quantum dots for long-term tracking of cells.The GelMA(10%,mass fraction)and PEO(1.6%,mass fraction)hydrogel with 3:1 volume ratio offered distinct pore-forming characteristics,satisfactorymechanical properties,and biocompatibility for the creation of the 3DP-7721 model.Immunofluorescence analysis and quantitative real-time fluorescence polymerase chain reaction(PCR)were used to evaluate the biological properties of the model.Compared with the two-dimensional culture cell model(2D-7721)and the 3D mixed culture cell model(3DM-7721),3DP-7721 significantly improved the proliferation of cells and expression of tumor-related proteins and genes.Moreover,we evaluated the differences between the three culture models and the effectiveness of antitumor drugs in the three models and discovered that the efficacy of antitumor drugs varied because of significant differences in resistance proteins and genes between the three models.In addition,the comparison of tumor formation in the three models found that the cells cultured by the 3DP-7721 model had strong tumorigenicity in nude mice.Immunohistochemical evaluation of the levels of biochemical indicators related to the formation of solid tumors showed that the 3DP-7721 model group exhibited pathological characteristics of malignant tumors,the generated solid tumors were similar to actual tumors,and the deterioration was higher.This research therefore acts as a foundation for the application of 3DP-7721 models in drug development research.

Understanding the combustion behavior of electric bicycle batteries and unveiling its relationship with fire extinguishing

In this study,a detailed analysis of the combustion behaviors of the lithium iron phosphate(LFP)and lithium manganese oxide(LMO)batteries used in electric bicycles was conducted.This research included quantitative measurements of the combustion duration,flame height,combustion temperature,heat release rate,and total heat release.The results indicated that LMO batteries exhibited higher combustion temperatures of 600–700°C,flame heights of 70–75 cm,a significantly higher heat release rate of40.1 k W(12 Ah),and a total heat release of 1.04 MJ(12 Ah)compared to LFP batteries with the same capacity.Based on these experimental results,a normalized total heat release(NORTHR)parameter was proposed,demonstrating good universality for batteries with different capacities.Utilizing this parameter,quantitative calculations and optimization of the extinguishing agent dosage were conducted for fires involving these two types of batteries,and the method was validated by extinguishing fires for these two types of battery packs with water-based extinguishing fluids.

LECF: recommendation via learnable edge collaborative filtering

The core of recommendation models is estimating the probability that a user will like an item based on historical interactions. Existing collaborative filtering(CF) algorithms compute the likelihood by utilizing simple relationships between objects, e.g., user-item, item-item, or user-user. They always rely on a single type of object-object relationship, ignoring other useful relationship information in data. In this paper, we model an interaction between user and item as an edge and propose a novel CF framework, called learnable edge collaborative filtering(LECF). LECF predicts the existence probability of an edge based on the connections among edges and is able to capture the complex relationship in data. Specifically, we first adopt the concept of line graph where each node represents an interaction edge; then calculate a weighted sum of similarity between the query edge and the observed edges(i.e., historical interactions) that are selected from the neighborhood of query edge in the line graph for a recommendation. In addition, we design an efficient propagation algorithm to speed up the training and inference of LECF. Extensive experiments on four public datasets demonstrate LECF can achieve better performance than the state-of-the-art methods.

Labor protection,information disclosure and analyst forecasts:Evidence from China's Labor Contract Law

Labor protection increases employees’stability and strengthens their monitoring role,improving firms’information environment and increasing analysts’earnings forecast accuracy.Using the implementation of China’s Labor Contract Law as a quasi-natural experiment,we find that labor protection significantly improves analyst forecasts.This positive impact is stronger when agency problems are weaker,board independence is greater,corporate reputation is better and industry competition is more intense.Enhanced labor protection significantly reduces firms’business risk and accrual-based earnings management,decreases stock price synchronicity and increases market pricing efficiency.Our findings of significant impacts of China’s Labor Contract Law on analysts’forecasting behaviors offer important guidance for promoting the development of the Chinese capital market and policy making in labor protection.

Histone deacetylase inhibitors promote breast cancer metastasis by elevating NEDD9 expression

Histone deacetylase(HDAC)is a kind of protease that modifies histone to regulate gene expression,and is usually abnormally activated in tumors.The approved pan-HDAC inhibitors have demonstrated clinical benefits for patients in some hematologic malignancies.Only limited therapeutic success in breast cancer has been observed in clinical trials.In this study,we declare that pan-HDAC inhibitors targeting NEDD9-FAK pathway exacerbate breast cancer metastasis in preclinical models,which may severely impede their clinical success.NEDD9 is not an oncogene,however,it has been demonstrated recently that there are high level or activity changes of NEDD9 in a variety of cancer,including leukemia,colon cancer,and breast cancer.Mechanistically,pan-HDAC inhibitors enhance H3K9 acetylation at the nedd9 gene promoter via inhibition of HDAC4 activity,thus increase NEDD9 expression,and then activate FAK phosphorylation.The realization that pan-HDAC inhibitors can alter the natural history of breast cancer by increasing invasion warrants clinical attention.In addition,although NEDD9 has been reported to have a hand in breast cancer metastasis,it has not received much attention,and no therapeutic strategies have been developed.Notably,we demonstrate that FAK inhibitors can reverse breast cancer metastasis induced by upregulation of NEDD9 via pan-HDAC inhibitors,which may offer a potential combination therapy for breast cancer.

Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase alpha(PI3Kα)inhibitors are currently evaluated for the therapy of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC).It is of great importance to identify potential biomarkers to predict or monitor the efficacy of PI3Kαinhibitors in an aim to improve the clinical responsive rate in ESCC.Here,ESCC PDXs with CCND1 amplification were found to be more sensitive to CYH33,a novel PI3Kα-selective inhibitor currently in clinical trials for the treatment of advanced solid tumors including ESCC.Elevated level of cyclin D1,p21 and Rb was found in CYH33-sensitive ESCC cells compared to those in resistant cells.CYH33 significantly arrested sensitive cells but not resistant cells at G1 phase,which was associated with accumulation of p21 and suppression of Rb phosphorylation by CDK4/6 and CDK2.Hypo-phosphorylation of Rb attenuated the transcriptional activation of SKP2 by E2F1,which in turn hindered SKP2-mediated degradation of p21 and reinforced accumulation of p21.Moreover,CDK4/6 inhibitors sensitized resistant ESCC cells and PDXs to CYH33.These findings provided mechanistic rationale to evaluate PI3Kαinhibitors in ESCC patients harboring amplified CCND1 and the combined regimen with CDK4/6 inhibitors in ESCC with proficient Rb.

Genomic MET amplification and exon 14 skipping are currently clinically recognized biomarkers for stratifying subsets of non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC)patients according to the predicted response to c-Met inhibitors(c-Metis),yet the overall clinical benefit of this strategy is quite limited.Notably,c-Met protein overexpression,which occurs in approximately 20–25%of NSCLC patients,has not yet been clearly defined as a clinically useful biomarker.An optimized strategy for accurately classifying patients with c-Met overexpression for decision-making regarding c-Meti treatment is lacking.Herein,we found that SYK regulates the plasticity of cells in an epithelial state and is associated with their sensitivity to c-Metis both in vitro and in vivo in PDX models with c-Met overexpression regardless of MET gene status.Furthermore,TGF-β1 treatment resulted in SYK transcriptional downregulation,increased Sp1-mediated transcription of FRA1,and restored the mesenchymal state,which conferred resistance to c-Metis.Clinically,a subpopulation of NSCLC patients with c-Met overexpression coupled with SYK overexpression exhibited a high response rate of 73.3%and longer progression-free survival with c-Meti treatment than other patients.SYK negativity coupled with TGF-β1 positivity conferred de novo and acquired resistance.In summary,SYK regulates cell plasticity toward a therapy-sensitive epithelial cell state.Furthermore,our findings showed that SYK overexpression can aid in precisely stratifying NSCLC patients with c-Met overexpression regardless of MET alterations and expand the population predicted to benefit from c-Met-targeted therapy.
