Response of soil nutrients to terracing and environmental factors in the Loess Plateau of China

Terracing is a widely adopted agricultural practice in mountainous regions around the world that aims to conserve soil and water *** nutrients play a crucial role in determining soil quality,particularly in landscapes prone to *** are influenced by factors such as land-use type,slope aspect,and *** this study,we sought to examine the impact of terracing on soil nutrients(soil organic content(SOC),total nitrogen(Tn),nitrate-nitrogen(nO_(3)^(-)-n),ammonium nitrogen(nH_(4)^(+)-n),total phosphorus(TP),available phosphorus(AP),total potassium(TK),and available potassium(AK))and how they vary with environmental factors in the Chinese Loess *** the growing season,we collected 540 soil samples from the 0 to 100 cm soil layer across five major land-use types,different slope aspects,and varying ***,a meta-analysis of literature data further corroborated the effective accumulation of soil nutrients through terracing in the Loess *** findings are as follows:(1)Terraced fields,regardless of land-use type,showed a significant improvement in SOC and Tn content.(2)Soil nutrient contents within terraced fields were predominantly higher on sunny slopes.(3)Terraces at lower altitudes are characterized by elevated SOC concentrations.(4)A meta-analysis of literature data pertaining to terracing and soil nutrients in this region confirmed the effective accumulation of soil nutri-ents through *** elucidated outcomes of this study offer a profound theoretical underpinning for the accurate planning and management of terraces,the scientific utilization of land resources,and the enhancement of land productivity.

The study of nuclide production and its properties in the n=126 neutron-rich region is prevalent in nuclear physics and astrophysics *** upcoming High-energy FRagment Separator(HFRS)at the High-Intensity heavy-ion Accelerator Facility(HIAF),an in-flight separator at relativistic energies,is characterized by high beam intensity,large ion-optical acceptance,high magnetic rigidity,and high momentum resolution *** provides an opportunity to study the production and properties of neutron-rich nuclei around n=*** this paper,an experimental scheme is proposed to produce neutron-rich nuclei around n=126 and simultaneously measure their mass and lifetime based on the HFRS separator;the feasibility of this scheme is evaluated through *** results show that under the high-resolution optical mode,many new neutron-rich nuclei approaching the r-process abundance peak around A=195 can be produced for the first time,and many nuclei with unknown masses and lifetimes can be produced with high *** the time-of-flight corrected by the measured dispersive position and energy loss information,the cocktails produced from 208 Pb fragmentation can be unambiguously ***,the masses of some neutron-rich nuclei near n=126 can be measured with high precision using the time-of-flight magnetic rigidity *** indicates that the HIAF-HFRS facility has the potential for the production and property research of neutron-rich nuclei around n=126,which is of great significance for expanding the chart of nuclides,developing nuclear theories,and understanding the origin of heavy elements in the universe.

nH_(4)Cl-assisted synthesis of TaOn nanoparticle applied to photocatalytic hydrogen and oxygen evolution from water

Oxynitride semiconductors are promising photocatalyst materials for visible light-driven water splitting,while the synthesis of well crystalized oxynitride still remains *** present work,narrow-bandgap TaOn nanoparticles are synthesized via heating a vacuum-sealed mixture of KTaO_(3),Ta and nH_(4)*** method possesses multiple advantages in terms of lower calcination parameter,higher n conversion efficiency and superior photocatalytic activity in comparison with the traditional thermal ammonolysis using nH_(3) gas as a nitrogen *** the analysis of intermediates produced upon the elevation of heating temperature,a gas-solid-phase reaction between TaCl_(5) and Ta_(2)O_(5) is demonstrated as the final step,which is conducive to decreasing thermal energy barrier and accelerating nitridation *** control of preparation conditions,including calcination temperature and duration,allows for the regulation of surface O/n ratio of TaOn particles to unity,resulting in optimized photocat-alytic *** assessment and intensity modulated photocurrent spectroscopy provide convincing evidence for improved charge transfer effciency of photoexcited holes at TaOn surface.A Z-scheme overall water splitting is accomplished by employing the TaOn as an effective oxygen evolution photocatalyst,SrTiO_(3):Rh as a hydrogen evolution photocatalyst,and reduced graphene oxide(rGO)as a solid-state electron *** work presents a promising strategy for the synthesis of high-quality oxynitride materials in application to photocatalytic water splitting.

Bi_(2)Se_(3)-based flexible thin film with high thermoelectric performance is promising for the waste heat recovery *** this work,a novel post-selenization method is employed to prepare n-type Bi_(2)Se_(3)flexible thin films with highly textured *** strengthened texture and Se vacancy optimization can be simultaneously achieved by optimizing the selenization *** highly oriented texture leads to the increased carrier mobility and results in a high electric conductivity of~290.47 S·cm^(-1)at 623 ***,a high Seebeck coefficient(>110μW·K-1)is obtained due to the reduced carrier concentration,induced by optimizing vacancy ***,a high power factor of 3.49μW·cm^(-1)·K^(-2)at 623 K has been achieved in asprepared highly-bendable Bi_(2)Se_(3)flexible thin films selenized at 783 *** study introduces an effective post-selenization method to tune the texture structure and vacancies of Bi_(2)Se_(3)flexible thin films,and correspondingly achieves high thermoelectric performance.

Anchoring Ru clusters to highly defective n-doped carbon nanotubes via a thermal-shock strategy for stable industrial hydrogen evolution

non-Pt or low-Pt catalysts capable for stable generation of hydrogen via water electrolysis at an industrial level of current density are highly *** of strong metal-support connection is beneficial to improve the performance stability of *** we employed highly defective n-doped carbon nanotubes(d-n-CnT)as the support to achieve uniform and firm anchoring of Ru clusters(~1.9 nm)via a thermal-shock *** as-prepared Ru/d-n-CnT catalyst shows excellent catalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)in alkaline media and requires an overpotential(ƞ)of 12 mV at 10 ma·cm^(−2)and 116 mV at 200 ma·cm^(−2)with a Ru loading of 0.025 mg·cm^(−2).Impressively,Ru/d-n-CnT presents robust stability for HER at both low current density(stable for at least 1000 h at 10 ma·cm^(−2))and the industrial level of current density(stable for at least 100 h at 1000 ma·cm^(−2)),remarkably outperforming commercial Pt/C and Ru/*** highly defective nature of the n-CnT support endowed the as-prepared Ru/d-n-CnT catalyst with strong metal-support adhesion that efficiently suppressed agglomeration as well as obscission of Ru ***,the rich defects increased the surface energy of the n-CnT support and resulted in improved hydrophilicity as evidenced by the liquid contact angle measurement and the bubble evolution process,which also played an important role in stabilizing the HER performance especially at large current density.

As wearable electronic devices are rapidly developing,there is an urgent need for lightweight,flexible,and ultrathin multifunctional electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding ***,the flexible ultrathin paper that combines efficient shielding and multifunctional integration remains a considerable ***,a novel MXene/Fe_(3)O_(4)@CnTs/TOCnF(MCT,MXene=transition metal carbide/carbonitride,CnTs=carbon nanotubes,TOCnF=TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofiber,TEMPO=2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl radical)nanocomposite paper with a multilayer electromagnetic gradient structure and electromagnetic dual losses was successfully prepared by a simple filtration *** from effective gradient design and adjusting the proportion of TOCnF,the composite paper(only 18μm)exhibits outstanding shielding effectiveness(SE)of 66 dB in the X-band,ultrahigh thickness-specific SE and surface-specific SE values of 3300 dB·mm-1 and 31,428 dB·cm^(2)·g^(-1)***,dehydroxylation treatment improves MCT paper's hydrophobicity,environmental stability,and mechanical strength,expanding its range of ***,the highly efficient Joule heating properties and hydrophobicity provide MCT additional de-icing *** also simulated the electromagnetic shielding effects of MCT composite paper,which was applied in *** study documents an innovative and intriguing material combination,providing a simple and effective manufacturing strategy for developing EMI shielding *** paper is highly suitable for outdoor portable or wearable electronic devices and has significant application potential in humid/severe cold environments.

Stable carbon isotope composition and intrinsic water use efficiency in plants along an altitudinal gradient on the eastern slope of Yulong Snow Mountain, China

Background Stable carbon isotope composition(δ13Cp) can be used to estimate the changes in intrinsic water use efficiency（iWUE） in plants,which helps us to better understand plants' response strategies to climate *** study focused on the variations in δ13Cpand iWUE for the different life-form plants（i.e.,herbs,shrubs,and trees）along an altitudinal gradient（3300,3600,3900,4100,4300,and 4500 m） on the eastern slope of Yulong Snow Mountain,southeastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibet *** response mechanisms of δ13Cpand iWUE for different life-form plants to altitude were thoroughly analyzed in this mountain *** The δ13Cpvalues of plants on the eastern slopes of Yulong Snow Mountain ranged from-30.4‰to-26.55‰,with a mean of-28.02‰,indicating a dominance of *** δ13Cpand iWUE values varied among different life-form plants in the order of herbs> shrubs> trees,particularly in 3600,3900,and 4300 ***δ13Cpand iWUE values for herbs and shrubs increased with altitude and were mainly controlled by air *** two parameters for trees exhibited a trend of initial decrease followed by an increase with *** 3900 m,the δ13Cpand iWUE values decreased with altitude,influenced by soil ***,above 3900 m,the two parameters increased with altitude,mainly regulated by air *** addition,iWUE was positively correlated with leaf P content but negatively correlated with leaf n:P ratio,especially for herbs and trees,suggesting that P plays a key role in modulating iWUE in this *** The diffe rentiated responses of water availability for different life-form plants to a higher altitudinal gradient are regulated by air temperature,soil moisture,and leaf P content in the Yulong Snow *** results provide valuable insights into understanding the wate r-carbon relationships in high-altitude ecosystems.

MOF‐derived 1D/3D n‐doped porous carbon for spatially confined electrochemical CO2 reduction to adjustable syngas

Electrochemical reduction of CO_(2)to syngas(CO and H_(2))offers an efficient way to mitigate carbon emissions and store intermittent renewable energy in ***,the hierarchical one‐dimensional/three‐dimensional nitrogen‐doped porous carbon(1D/3D nPC)is prepared by carbonizing the composite of Zn‐MOF‐74 crystals in situ grown on a commercial melamine sponge(MS),for electrochemical CO_(2)reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR).The 1D/3D nPC exhibits a high CO/H_(2)ratio(5.06)and CO yield(31 mmol g^(−1)h^(−1))at−0.55 V,which are 13.7 times and 21.4 times those of 1D porous carbon(derived from Zn‐MOF‐74)and n‐doped carbon(carbonized by MS),*** is attributed to the unique spatial environment of 1D/3D nPC,which increases the adsorption capacity of CO_(2)and promotes electron transfer from the 3D n‐doped carbon framework to 1D carbon,improving the reaction kinetics of CO_(2)*** results and charge density difference plots indicate that the active site of CO_(2)RR is the positively charged carbon atom adjacent to graphitic n on 1D carbon and the active site of HER is the pyridinic n on 1D *** presence of pyridinic n and pyrrolic n reduces the number of electron transfer,decreasing the reaction kinetics and the activity of CO_(2)*** CO/H_(2)ratio is related to the distribution of n species and the specific surface area,which are determined by the degree of spatial confinement *** CO/H_(2)ratios can be regulated by adjusting the carbonization temperature to adjust the degree of spatial confinement *** the low cost of feedstock and easy strategy,1D/3D nPC catalysts have great potential for industrial application.

Mutual antagonism of mouse-adaptation mutations in HA and PA proteins on H9n2 virus replication

Avian H9n2 viruses have wide host range among the influenza A ***,knowledge of H9n2 mammalian adaptation is *** explore the molecular basis of the adaptation to mammals,we performed serial lung passaging of the H9n2 strain A/chicken/Hunan/8.27 YYGK3W3-OC/2018(3W3)in mice and identified six mutations in the hemagglutinin(HA)and polymerase acidic(PA)*** L226Q,T511I,and A528V of HA were responsible for enhanced pathogenicity and viral replication in mice;notably,HA-L226Q was the key *** T97I,I545V,and S594G of PA contributed to enhanced polymerase activity in mammalian cells and increased viral replication levels in vitro and in ***-T97I increased viral polymerase activity by accelerating the viral polymerase complex *** findings revealed that the viral replication was affected by the presence of PA-97I and/or PA-545V in combination with a triple-point HA ***,the double-and triple-point PA mutations demonstrated antagonistic effect on viral replication when combined with ***,any combination of PA mutations,along with double-point HA mutations,resulted in antagonistic effect on viral *** also observed antagonism in viral replication between PA-545V and PA-97I,as well as between HA-528V and *** findings demonstrated that several antagonistic mutations in HA and PA proteins affect viral replication,which may contribute to the H9n2 virus adaptation to mice and mammalian *** findings can potentially contribute to the monitoring of H9n2 field strains for assessing their potential risk in mammals.
