Graphene binding on black phosphorus enables high on/off ratios and mobility

Graphene is one of the most promising candidates for integrated circuits due to its robustness against short-channel effects, inherent high carrier mobility and desired gapless nature for Ohmic contact, but it is difficult to achieve satisfactory on/off ratios even at the expense of its carrier mobility, limiting its device applications. Here, we present a strategy to realize high back-gate switching ratios in a graphene monolayer with well-maintained high mobility by forming a vertical heterostructure with a black phosphorus multi-layer. By local current annealing, strain is introduced within an established area of the graphene, which forms a reflective interface with the rest of the strain-free area and thus generates a robust off-state via local current depletion. Applying a positive back-gate voltage to the heterostructure can keep the black phosphorus insulating, while a negative back-gate voltage changes the black phosphorus to be conductive because of hole accumulation. Then, a parallel channel is activated within the strain-free graphene area by edge-contacted electrodes, thereby largely inheriting the intrinsic carrier mobility of graphene in the on-state. As a result, the device can provide an on/off voltage ratio of >10～3 as well as a mobility of ～8000 cm2V-1s-1at room temperature, meeting the low-power criterion suggested by the International Roadmap for Devices and Systems.

Solvation strategies in various electrolytes for advanced zinc metal anode

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries(AZIBs),known for their high safety,low cost,and environmental friendliness,have a wide range of potential applications in large-scale energy storage systems.However,the notorious dendrite growth and severe side reactions on the anode have significantly hindered their further practical development.Recent studies have shown that the solvation chemistry in the electrolyte is not only closely related to the barriers to the commercialization of AZIBs,but have also sparked a number of valuable ideas to address the challenges of AZIBs.Therefore,we systematically summarize and discuss the regulatory mechanisms of solvation chemistry in various types of electrolytes and the influence of the solvation environment on battery performance.The challenges and future directions for solvation strategies based on the electrolyte environment are proposed to improve their performance and expand their application in AZIBs.

Bioinspired Multifunctional Self-Sensing Actuated Gradient Hydrogel for Soft-Hard Robot Remote Interaction

The development of bioinspired gradient hydrogels with self-sensing actuated capabilities for remote interaction with soft-hard robots remains a challenging endeavor. Here, we propose a novel multifunctional self-sensing actuated gradient hydrogel that combines ultrafast actuation and high sensitivity for remote interaction with robotic hand. The gradient network structure, achieved through a wettability difference method involving the rapid precipitation of MoO_(2) nanosheets, introduces hydrophilic disparities between two sides within hydrogel. This distinctive approach bestows the hydrogel with ultrafast thermo-responsive actuation(21° s^(-1)) and enhanced photothermal efficiency(increase by 3.7 ℃ s^(-1) under 808 nm near-infrared). Moreover, the local cross-linking of sodium alginate with Ca^(2+) endows the hydrogel with programmable deformability and information display capabilities. Additionally, the hydrogel exhibits high sensitivity(gauge factor 3.94 within a wide strain range of 600%), fast response times(140 ms) and good cycling stability. Leveraging these exceptional properties, we incorporate the hydrogel into various soft actuators, including soft gripper, artificial iris, and bioinspired jellyfish, as well as wearable electronics capable of precise human motion and physiological signal detection. Furthermore, through the synergistic combination of remarkable actuation and sensitivity, we realize a self-sensing touch bioinspired tongue. Notably, by employing quantitative analysis of actuation-sensing, we realize remote interaction between soft-hard robot via the Internet of Things. The multifunctional self-sensing actuated gradient hydrogel presented in this study provides a new insight for advanced somatosensory materials, self-feedback intelligent soft robots and human–machine interactions.

Groundwater quality assessment and prediction(GQAP)is vital for protecting groundwater resources.Traditional GQAP methods can not adequately capture the complex relationships among attributes and have the disadvantage of being computationally demanding.Recently,the application of machine learning(ML)in GAQP(GQAPxML)has been widely studied due to ML’s reliability and efficiency.While many GQAPxML publications exist,a thorough review is missing.This review provides a comprehensive summary of the development of ML applications in the field of GQAP.First,the workflow of ML modeling is briefly introduced,as are data preparation,model development,model evaluation,and model application.Second,299 publications related to the topic are filtered,mainly through ML modeling.Subsequently,many aspects of GQAPxML,such as publication trends,the spatial distribution of study areas,the size of data sets,and ML algorithms,are discussed from a bibliometric perspective.In addition,we review in detail the well-established applications and recent findings for several subtopics,including groundwater quality assessment,groundwater quality modeling using groundwater quality parameters,groundwater quality spatial mapping,probability estimation of exceeding the groundwater quality threshold,groundwater quality temporal prediction,and the hybrid use of ML and physics-based models.Finally,the development of GQAPxML is explored from three perspectives:data collection and preprocessing,model building and evaluation,and the broadening of model applications.This review provides a reference for environmental scientists to better understand GQAPxML and promotes the development of innovative methods and improvements in modeling quality.

MnO_(2) cathode materials with the improved stability via nitrogen doping for aqueous zinc-ion batteries

The research and exploration of manganese-based aqueous zinc-ion batteries have been controversial of cycle stability and mechanism investigation,thus improving the stability and exploring storage mechanism are still the most main issue.Defect engineering has become an effective method to improve cycle stability.Herein,a nitrogen-doped ε-MnO_(2)(MnO_(2)@N)has been prepared using electrochemical deposition and heat treatment under nitrogen atmosphere.As the cathode for zinc-ion batteries,the capacity retention rate of MnO_(2)@N cathode is close to 100%after 500 cycles at 0.5 A g^(-1),while the capacity retention rate for the initial MnO_(2) cathode is 62%.At 5 A g^(-1),the capacity retention rate of MnO_(2)@N cathode is 83%after 1000 cycles,which is much higher than the 27%capacity retention rate for the original MnO_(2) cathode.And it can be found that the oxygen vacancies increase after nitrogen doping,which can improve the conductivity of the MnO_(2)@N cathode.Also,there is Mn-N bond in MnO_(2)@N,which can enhance the electrochemical stability of MnO_(2)@N cathode.In addition,the electrochemical mechanism of MnO_(2)@N cathode has been explored by the CV,GCD and GITT tests.It is found that nitrogen doping promotes the intercalation of H^(+) and the corresponding capacity contribution.Compared with the original MnO_(2) cathode,the diffusion coefficient of H^(+) and Zn^(2+) in MnO_(2)@N cathode increases.Also,the reactions during the charging and discharging process are explored through the ex-situ XRD test.And this work may provide some new ideas for improving the stability of manganese-based zinc-ion batteries.

Lifting surface reconstruction of Au(100)by tellurium adsorption

The Au(100)surface has been a subject of intense studies due to excellent catalytic activities and its model character for surface science.However,the spontaneous surface reconstruction buries active Au(100)plane and limits practical applications,how to controllably eliminate the surface reconstruction over large scale remains challenging.Here,we experimentally and theoretically demonstrate that simple decoration of the Au(100)surface by tellurium(Te)atoms can uniquely lift its reconstruction over large scale.Scanning tunneling microscopy imaging reveals that the lifting of surface reconstruction preferentially starts from the boundaries of distinct domains and then extends progressively into the domains with the reconstruction rows perpendicular to the boundaries,leaving a Au(100)-(1×1)surface behind.The Au(100)-(1×1)is saturated at~84%±2%with respect to the whole surface at a Te coverage of 0.16 monolayer.With further increasing the Te coverage to 0.25 monolayer,the Au(100)-(1×1)surface becomes reduced and overlapped by a well-ordered(2×2)-Te superstructure.No similar behavior is found for Te-decorated Au(111),Cu(111),Cu(100)surfaces,nor for the decorated Au(100)with other elements.This result may pave the way to design Au-based catalysts and,as an intermediate step,even potentially open a new route to constructing complex transition metal dichalcogenides.

Cardiovascular health metrics are now widely recognized as modifable risk factors for cognitive decline and dementia.Metabolic perturbations might play roles in the linkage of cardiovascular diseases and dementia.Circulating metabolites profling by metabolomics may improve understanding of the potential mechanism by which cardiovascular risk factors contribute to cognitive decline.In a prospective community-based cohort in China(n=725),312 serum metabolic phenotypes were quantifed,and cardiovascular health score was calculated including smoking,exercise,sleep,diet,body mass index,blood pressure,and blood glucose.Cognitive function assessments were conducted in baseline and follow-up visits to identify longitudinal cognitive decline.A better cardiovascular health was signifcantly associated with lower risk of concentration decline and orientation decline(hazard ratio(HR):0.84–0.90;p<0.05).Apolipoprotein-A1,high-density lipoprotein(HDL)cholesterol,cholesterol ester,and phospholipid concentrations were signifcantly associated with a lower risk of longitudinal memory and orientation decline(p<0.05 and adjusted-p<0.20).Mediation analysis suggested that the negative association between health status and the risk of orientation decline was partly mediated by cholesterol ester and total lipids in HDL-2 and-3(proportion of mediation:7.68–8.21%,both p<0.05).Cardiovascular risk factors were associated with greater risks of cognitive decline,which were found to be mediated by circulating lipoproteins,particularly the medium-size HDL components.These fndings underscore the potential of utilizing lipoproteins as targets for early stage dementia screening and intervention.

Aerodynamics of Ascending Flight in Fruit Flies

As a very basic flight mode, ascending flight is obviously of great importance to all kinds of manmade and natural fliers. Yet, for the most commonly seen fliers - insects, researches on this flight mode are rare. In this paper, we combined both experimental measurements and numerical simulations to investigate the kinematical characteristics, aerodynamic performance and power requirement of ascending flight in fruit flies （Drosophila virilis）. The flies ascend at an advance ratio of about 0.12. The most significant characteristic of ascending flight is larger stroke amplitude compared to hovering, while the other kinematics is very similar. From an aerodynamics point of view, this increased stroke amplitude is needed to overcome the negative effects of＂downwash flow＂, caused by the upward motion of the fly. Same as hovering, the ascending fruit flies utilize delayed stall and fast pitching-up mechanisms to generate the majority of the lift required for balancing the weight and body drag. By using a larger stroke-amplitude to overcome the negative effects of＂downwash flow＂, larger energy cost （about 20%） than that of equivalent hovering is required.

Metal-semiconductor diodes constructed from two-dimensional(2D)van der Waals heterostructures show excellent gate electrostatics and a large built-in electric field at the tunnel junction,which can be exploited to make highly sensitive photodetector.Here we demonstrate a metal-semiconductor photodiode constructed by the monolayer graphene(Gr)on a few-layer black phosphorus(BP).Due to the presence of a built-in potential barrier(~0.09±0.03 eV)at the Gr-BP interface,the photoresponsivity of the Gr-BP device is enhanced by a factor of 672%,and the external quantum efficiency(EQE)increases to648%from 84%of the bare BP.Electrostatic gating allows the BP channel to be switched between p-type and n-type conduction.We further demonstrate that excitation laser power can be used to control the current polarity of the Gr-BP device due to photon-induced doping.The versatility of the Gr-BP junctions in terms of electrostatic bias-induced or light-induced switching of current polarity is potentially useful for making dynamically reconfigurable digital circuits.

跨模态图像-文本检索是一项在给定一种模态(如文本)的查询条件下检索另一种模态(如图像)的任务.该任务的关键问题在于如何准确地测量图文两种模态之间的相似性,在减少视觉和语言这两种异构模态之间的视觉语义差异中起着至关重要的作用.传统的检索范式依靠深度学习提取图像和文本的特征表示,并将其映射到一个公共表示空间中进行匹配.然而,这种方法更多地依赖数据表面的相关关系,无法挖掘数据背后真实的因果关系,在高层语义信息的表示和可解释性方面面临着挑战.为此,在深度学习的基础上引入因果推断和嵌入共识知识,提出嵌入共识知识的因果图文检索方法.具体而言,将因果干预引入视觉特征提取模块,通过因果关系替换相关关系学习常识因果视觉特征,并与原始视觉特征进行连接得到最终的视觉特征表示.为解决本方法文本特征表示不足的问题,采用更强大的文本特征提取模型BERT(Bidirectional encoder representations from transformers,双向编码器表示),并且嵌入两种模态数据之间共享的共识知识对图文特征进行共识级的表示学习.在MS-COCO数据集以及MS-COCO到Flickr30k上的跨数据集实验,证明了本文方法可以在双向图文检索任务上实现召回率和平均召回率的一致性改进.
