Long Term Administration of Lannea acida Rich. (Anacardiaceae) Reverses the Imidacloprid-Induced Fertility Impairments in Adult Male Rat through Androgenic and Antioxidant properties

Aim: The harmful effects of pesticides have been largely documented in recent times. But effective therapeutic solutions to pesticide related male infertility are yet to be established. This study investigated the curative effects of Lannea acida on imidacloprid (IMI)-induced hypofertility in male Wistar rats. Methods: Rats of 150 – 200 g were administered IMI (22.5 mg/kg) for two weeks and partitioned into control (distilled water, vitamin E, clomiphene citrate) or test (aqueous (340 mg/kg), methanol (170 mg/kg) extract) groups for eight weeks treatment. Animals were sacrificed at the end of the treatment and samples were collected for sperm, antioxidant and hormonal analysis. Fertility tests were performed from treatment day 47 for fertility indices estimation. Results were expressed as mean ± SEM and one way ANOVA was applied using STATISTICA Software. Results: Exposition to IMI resulted in a significant decrease in sperm count, motility, viability and normality, testosterone and LH, coupled to an increase in oxidative stress markers. Moreover, IMI impaired male fertility evidenced by a significant drop in fertility index and litter size. Similar to clomiphene citrate and vitamin E, plant extracts significantly improved the sperm parameters, sexual hormones and decreased the oxidative stress markers. More importantly, the fertility index and litter size were restored, especially with the aqueous extract. Conclusion: present results indicate that L. acida possesses curative potentials against IMI-induced hypofertility through its androgenic and antioxidant properties. However, the effects the extract on spermatozoa DNA structure and the fertility of offsprings from exposed parents are yet to be studied to conclude on total recovery from IMI toxicity.

This paper develops further the theory of symmetrization of fractional Laplacian operators contained in recent works of two of the authors. This theory leads to optimal estimates in the form of concentration comparison inequalities for both elliptic and parabolic equations. The authors extend the theory for the so-called restricted fractional Laplacian defined on a bounded domain Ω of R^N with zero Dirichlet conditions outside of Ω. As an application, an original proof of the corresponding fractional Faber-Krahn inequality is derived. A more classical variational proof of the inequality is also provided.

Urological Emergencies at the University Hospital of Brazzaville: Epidemiological, Clinical, and Therapeutic Aspects

Introduction: Urological emergencies play a significant role in the medical and surgical activity of a urology department. The objective of this study was to determine the hospital prevalence of urological emergencies at the University Hospital of Brazzaville (CHUB), identify the different pathologies requiring urgent care, and list the various therapeutic methods. patients and methods: A retrospective study of patients admitted to the medical and surgical emergencies department of CHUB over a 5-year period. patient records admitted and treated for a urological emergency were included. The variables studied were the frequency of urological emergencies, patient age at admission, gender, nature of the emergency, and various therapeutic options. Results: Urological emergencies accounted for 4.3% of all medical and surgical emergencies. The mean age was 57 ± 28 years with a range of 3 to 93 years. The male-to-female ratio was 7.1. The most common conditions were urinary retention (54.67%), hematuria (17.20%), and renal colic (8.13%). Therapeutically, surgical urinary drainage was dominated by cystostomy. Conclusion: Urological emergencies are infrequent at the University Hospital of Brazzaville. Their management is often delayed.

Spallation process of Thermally Grown Oxides by In-Situ CCD Monitoring Technique

In cooling process of Fe-Cr-Al alloy oxidized at 1 300 ℃, the effect of cooling speed and exposure time on oxide spalled area fraction and successive variety of the spalled region were studied by investigating evolvement of the thermally grown oxide using in-situ CCD monitoring technique. The results showed that oxide spallation can be restrained by controlling cooling speed and the critical temperature drop of spallation initiation which is closely related to the oxide thickness or exposure time, and the spallation process of a little region may be described in more detail as two routes： from the oxide/substrate interface micro-decohesion, micro-buckles, buckle spreading, buckle crack to spallation and from the interface micro-decohesion, micro-buckles, buckle crack and spallation to the residual oxide decohesion and spallation.

Functional attributes： Compacting vs decompacting earth- worms and influence on soil structure

A short term field mesocosm experiment was performed in semi-deciduous forest areas of Ivory Coast to assess the impact of a decompacting （Hyperiodrilus africanus, Eudrilidae） and two compacting （Millsonia omodeoi and Dichogaster terrae nigrae, Acanthodrilidae） earthworm species on soil properties. These species have been selected for their predominance in the re- gion and their contrasting impact on soil structure. The experimental design consisted of a treatment without worms （control）, and treatments with one, two or three species of earthworms. Both compacting and decompacting earthworms increased water infil- tration rate in all treatments, with marked impact in H. africanus and M. omodeoi＋D, terraenigrae treatments. Interactions be- tween compacting and decompacting species resulted in more large aggregates in comparison to when the compacting species D. terraenigrae was alone. This may be accounted for by their compacting attribute as compacting earthworms are responsible for producing the highest number of large aggregates. The low values of mean weight diameter in treatments combining decompact-ing and compacting earthworms compared with compacting ＂M. omodeoi＂ one also confirmed the trend of decline in soil com-paction in the presence of the decompacting species. These results showed positive impact of species richness on soil structure regulation, which is crucial in ecosystem productivity and support consequently the insurance hypothesis. In fact, this study showed that the preservation of earthworm species belonging to these two contrasting functional groups is essential for the main-tenance of stable soil structure regulation in agro-tropical ecosystems.

Sulphur hexafluoride(SF_(6))is a potent greenhouse gas used in high voltage *** a promising alternative to SF_(6),the C_(3)F_(7)CN/CO_(2)gas mixture and its by‐products are of great interest to ensure the safe operation of accelerators that will adopt any SF_(6)‐free *** work experimentally examines the electrical ageing characteristics of a 20%C_(3)F_(7)CN/80%CO_(2)gas mixture tested using spark gaps under a pressure of 7.2 bar(abs.).Gas samples were collected after 1000 DC breakdowns and analysed using gas chro-matography mass spectrometry(GC‐MS)with an estimated toxicity value of 54,459 ppmv,which indicates the aged mixture to be non‐*** investigation was conducted on the gas‐solid interface after 500 breakdowns for both SF_(6) and the 20%C_(3)F_(7)CN/80%CO_(2)gas *** electrodes were analysed using X‐ray photoelec-tron spectroscopy(XpS)and X‐ray diffraction(XRD)*** surface analysis revealed the formation of metal fluorides on the electrode surface tested using the 20%C_(3)F_(7)CN/80%CO_(2)mixture,whereas metal fluorides and sulphides were detected for electrodes tested with SF_(6).The findings provide a reference on the toxicity and gas‐solid interaction of the electrically aged 20%C_(3)F_(7)CN/80%CO_(2)gas mixture for potential retro‐fill application in high voltage accelerators.

Influence of"protective"symbionts throughout the different steps of an aphid-parasitoid interaction
