Genome-Wide Association Study of Cooked Rice Textural Attributes and Starch Physicochemical Properties in indica Rice

Rice cooking and eating qualities(CEQ)are mainly determined by cooked rice textural parameters and starch physicochemical properties.However,the genetic bases of grain texture and starch properties in rice have not been fully understood.We conducted a genome-wide association study for apparent amylose content(AAC),starch pasting viscosities,and cooked rice textural parameters using 279 indica rice accessions from the 3000 Rice Genome Project.We identified 26 QTLs in the whole population and detected single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)with the lowest P-value at the Waxy(Wx)locus for all traits except pasting temperature and cohesiveness.Additionally,we detected significant SNPs at the SUBSTANDARD STARCH GRAIN6(SSG6)locus for AAC,setback(SB),hardness,adhesiveness,chewiness(CHEW),gumminess(GUM),and resilience.We subsequently divided the population using a SNP adjacent to the Waxy locus,and identified 23 QTLs and 12 QTLs in two sub-panels,WxT and WxA,respectively.In these sub-panels,SSG6 was also identified to be associated with pasting parameters,including peak viscosity,hot paste viscosity,cold paste viscosity,and consistency viscosity.Furthermore,a candidate gene encoding monosaccharide transporter 5(OsMST5)was identified to be associated with AAC,breakdown,SB,CHEW,and GUM.In total,39 QTLs were co-localized with known genes or previously reported QTLs.These identified genes and QTLs provide valuable information for genetic manipulation to improve rice CEQ.

To the Editor:Gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM)is a pathologic condition in which glucose intolerance and insulin resistance develop to different degrees during pregnancy.Women with GDM have higher odds of adverse maternal and fetal outcomes.Patients with a history of GDM were at a significantly increased risk for recurrence of GDM in subsequent pregnancies.Our previous and some other studies found an increased incidence of adverse perinatal outcomes in pregnant with recurrent GDM.^([1])So far,women with a prior history of GDM are not recommended to refrain from subsequent pregnancy in light of the limited available data.What about those women with a history of recurrent GDM?Should women with recurrent GDM be recommended to avoid further pregnancy?Currently,studies on perinatal outcomes of women with re-recurrent GDM and their prognostic factors are very rare.Therefore,this retrospective cohort study was performed to explore perinatal outcomes of pregnant woman with re-recurrent GDM and their prognostic factors.

Approximate solutions to fractional differential equations

In this paper, the time-fractional coupled viscous Burgers' equation(CVBE)and Drinfeld-Sokolov-Wilson equation(DSWE) are solved by the Sawi transform coupled homotopy perturbation method(HPM). The approximate series solutions to these two equations are obtained. Meanwhile, the absolute error between the approximate solution given in this paper and the exact solution given in the literature is analyzed. By comparison of the graphs of the function when the fractional order α takes different values, the properties of the equations are given as a conclusion.

The Euler disk,known since 1765,1 describes a solid disk that rotates on a smooth,firm surface,similar to a coin spun by a finger on a table,before its energy dissipates and it falls on the table.2 It represents a typical nonequilibrium excited state in classical physics.The most striking characteristic of an Euler disk is that it exhibits a sharply enhanced sound frequency when approaching the critical time,tc,after which the disk instantly ceases rotation and precession.At the excited-state-to-ground-state transition,its frequency abruptly changes from infinite to zero.This quasi-divergent and suddenly disappearing behavior is intriguing,revealing that this is a shared physical property in the microscopic quantum regime.

Epitranscriptomics focuses on the RNA-modification-mediated post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. The past decade has witnessed tremendous progress in our understanding of the landscapes and biological functions of RNA modifications, as prompted by the emergence of potent analytical approaches. The hematopoietic system provides a lifelong supply of blood cells, and gene expression is tightly controlled during the differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). The dysregulation of gene expression during hematopoiesis may lead to severe disorders, including acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Emerging evidence supports the involvement of the mRNA modification system in normal hematopoiesis and AML pathogenesis, which has led to the development of small-molecule inhibitors that target N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification machinery as treatments. Here, we summarize the latest findings and our most up-to-date information on the roles of m6A and N7-methylguanine in both physiological and pathological conditions in the hematopoietic system. Furthermore, we will discuss the therapeutic potential and limitations of cancer treatments targeting m6A.

The synthesis of degradable polymers with easy-to-break in-chain carbon-oxygen bonds has attracted much attention.This minireview introduces the synthesis of a variety of degradable polymers from the(co)polymerizations of several typical oxygenated monomers such as epoxides,cyclic carbonates,cyclic esters,carbon dioxide(CO_(2)),carbonyl sulfide(COS),and cyclic anhydrides.We highlight the catalysts and mechanisms for these(co)polymerizations.The ring-opening copolymerization of five-membered carbonate with cyclic anhydride or COS has been introduced.We also highlight the synthesis of block copolymers and cyclic copolymers with well-defined sequences by the method of growing center switching.We hope that these new polymerization systems can provide new ideas for the development of degradable low-carbon polymers in the future.

Formation and Bioactivity of SrTiO_3 Nanotubes on Titanium by Modified Anodization and Hydrothermal Treatment

SrTiO3 nanotube films with good adhesion strengths to Ti substrates were fabricated by using a hybrid approach with a modified anodization and a hydrothermal treatment （HT）. The effect of Sr^2＋ concentration in HT solutions on the morphologies and phase components of the nanotubes were investigated, the SrTiO3 nanotubes formation mechanism was explored, and the adhesion strengths, hydrophilicity and apatite-forming ability of the SrTiO3 nanotubes were also evaluated. The results demonstrated that with increasing the incorporation of Sr^2＋ into the nanotubes, no obvious changes of the lengths and outer diameters of the nanotubes were observed, but the wall thickness and the crystallinity of SrTiO3 in the nanotubes increased. The accumulation of Sr at the inner tube wall indicated that the reaction of Sr^2＋ with TiO2 mainly occurred in the vicinity of internal surfaces of the closely arranged nanotubes. The formation of the SrTiO3 nanotubes could be attributed to an in situ dissolution-recrystallization process. The SrTiO3 nanotubes exhibited good hydrophilicity and bioactivity, and the induced apatite preferred to nucleate on the nanotubes with higher crystallinity and Sr content, indicating a good hio-adaptability of the SrTiO3 nanotubes for orthopedic application.

The first International Conference on Mechanical System Dynamics(ICMSD),a major international conference in the field of mechanical system dynamics,was held as a hybrid in‐person/virtual conference during the period August 24–27,2022,in Nanjing,China,an ancient major cultural city.More than 2000 scientists and engineering experts from more than 20 countries in Asia,Europe,America,Africa,and Oceania,including 29 members of the National Academy of Sciences/Engineering,13 presidents of international academic societies,and 15 Editors‐in‐Chief of international journals,attended the conference,as shown in Figures 1 and 2.Focusing on the theme of“Promoting Science,Technology and Industry by Mechanical System Dynamics,”the conference defines a new chapter in the development of the field of mechanical system dynamics.

In this article,time fractional Fornberg-Whitham equation of He’s fractional derivative is studied.To transform the fractional model into its equivalent differential equation,the fractional complex transform is used and He’s homotopy perturbation method is implemented to get the approximate analytical solutions of the fractional-order problems.The graphs are plotted to analysis the fractional-order mathematical modeling.
