The relationship between energy consumption and economic growth and the development strategy of a low-carbon economy in Kazakhstan

Fossil energy is the material basis of human survival, economic development and social progress. The relationship between energy consumption and economic growth is becoming increasingly close. However, energy consumption is the major source of greenhouse gases, which can significantly affect the balance of the global ecosystem. It has become the common goal of countries worldwide to address climate change, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and implement sustainable development strategies. In this study, we applied an approximate relationship analysis, a decoupling relationship analysis, and a trend analysis to explore the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth using data from Kazakhstan for the period of 1993-2010. The results demonstrated：（1） the total energy consumption and GDP in Kazakhstan showed a ＂U＂-type curve from 1993 to 2010. This curve was observed because 1993-1999 was a period during which Kazakhstan transitioned from a republic to an independent country and experienced a difficult transition from a planned to a market economy. Then, the economic system became more stable and the industrial production increased rapidly because of the effective financial, monetary and industrial policy support from 2000 to 2010. （2） The relationships between energy con- sumption and carbon emissions, economic growth and energy exports were linked; the carbon emissions were mainly derived from energy consumption, and the dependence of economic growth on energy exports gradually increased from 1993 to 2010. Before 2000, the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth was in a recessional decoupling state because of the economic recession. After 2000, this relationship was in strong and weak decoupling states because the international crude oil prices rose and energy exports increased greatly year by year. （3） It is forecasted that Kazakhstan cannot achieve its goal of energy consumption by 2020. The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(QTP)is a region with unique and distinctive natural landscapes and cultural charac-teristics and presents a useful case to improve understanding of sustainable development for regions with extreme environments and unique social *** has been conducted for small-scale regions,however there has been insufficient exploration of the problems and countermeasures for sustainable development in *** study analyzes different functional zones(urbanized zones,agricultural zones,pastoral zones and ecological se-curity zones)of the *** it develops a sustainable livelihood index(SLI)based on the sustainable livelihood analysis framework resulting in three main ***,sustainable livelihoods vary greatly across functional *** SLI for farmers and herdsmen in the urbanized zones is the highest,with a value of 3.57,followed by the agricultural zones of *** comparison,the SLI values in the ecological security zones and pastoral zones are 2.92 and 2.85,respectively,indicating that the two zones present challenges for sustainable develop-ment in the ***,all counties had few natural,social or physical assets,indicating the need to expand assets to achieve sustainable ***,urbanized and agricultural counties had more robust livelihood strategies than ecological and pastoral *** light of these results,strategic options have been formulated to promote sustainable *** options include:accelerating construction of the third pole national park group;establishing a pattern of green mining;promoting the biological resources industry;and initiating a carbon trading market in the QTP.

Layered Mg-Al spinel supported Ce-Fe-Zr-O oxygen carriers for chemical looping reforming

A series of layered Mg-Al spinel supported Ce-Fe-Zr-O oxygen carriers were prepared for co-production of syngas and pure hydrogen via chemical looping steam reforming(CLSR).The presence of magnesium-aluminum layered double oxides(Mg Al-LDO)significantly increases the specific surface area of the mixed oxides,reduces the particle size of CeO2-based solid solution and promotes the dispersion of free *** reacting with methane,Mg Al-LDO supported oxygen carrier shows much lower temperature for methane oxidation than the pure CeFe-Zr-O sample,indicating enhanced low-temperature *** different Ce-Fe-Zr-O(x)/Mg Al-LDO samples,the Ce-Fe-Zr-O(40 wt%)/Mg Al-LDO sample shows the best performance for the selective oxidation of methane to syngas and the H2 production by water *** a long period of high temperature redox experiment,the Ce-Fe-Zr-O(40 wt%)/Mg Al-LDO oxygen carrier still shows high activity for syngas *** comparison on the morphology of the fresh and cycled oxygen carriers indicates that the Mg-Al spinel support still forms a stable skeleton structure with high dispersion of active components on the surface after the long-term cycling,which contributes to excellent redox stability of the Ce-Fe-Zr-O(40 wt%)/Mg Al-LDO oxygen carrier.

The sustainable development of border port-cities is of considerable significance to the stabilization and consolidation of border areas,unlike coastal-ports cities that consist of coastal ports and *** ports should continue to drive the development of their surrounding towns to provide high-quality living conditions,employment,and housing for inhabitants of such towns and enhance the population agglomeration capacity of border *** study aimed to analyze the structure of employment and settlement in the cities surrounding the Khorgas Port at the different stages of its development—employing semi-structured interviews with individuals to analyze the spatial orientation characteristics of the daily needs of different groups of people and reveal the ways in which border ports drive the development of their surrounding towns—and recommend ways in which this can be *** study finds that as the Khorgas Port’s mutual trade market,industrial base,comprehensive management,and other functions continue to grow,the port is becoming increasingly *** more people work and settl in the surrounding towns,their living needs also ***,a considerable number of employed people do not live nearby,and many living needs are not being addressed in the towns surrounding the *** study also reveals the living services demands of government management personnel who work at the port on weekdays and return to Yining City on weekends,employees of industrial enterprises who work at the port and return home for the New Year’s celebration,and government management personnel and individual business personnel who work at the port and live *** the future,the focus should be on improving the living conditions of the inhabitants of the towns surrounding Khorgas Port,including public services and the settlement ability of employees of industrial enterprises to better realize the radiation drive of the port on the surrounding towns.

Study of wafer pre-aligning approaches

Wafer pre-aligning system is an important component in IC manufacturing industry.A wafer pre-aligning platform with a CCD sensor is presented in this *** centering and notch detecting approaches are extended based on this platform. Least square circle fitting approach is adopted to calculate the center and radius of the wafer, and a formula for calculating the fitting error is derived. An approach called edge variation rate is also proposed to detect the range of wafer notch, and the fiducial is calculated by curve fitting approach. These approaches can improve the accuracy effectively as indicated by experiments.

Tectonic characteristics and structural styles of a continental rifted basin:Revelation from deep seismic reflection profiles

The Fushan Depression is a half-graben rifted sub-basin located in the southeast of the Beibuwan Basin, South China Sea. The Paleogene Liushagang sequence is the main hydrocarbon-bearing stratigraphic unit in the sub-basin. Using three-dimensional（3-D）seismic data and logging data over the sub-basin, we analyzed structural styles and sedimentary characteristics of the Liushagang sequence. Five types of structural styles were defined： ancient horst, traditional slope, flexure slope-break, faulted slope-break and multiple-stage faults slope, and interpretations for positions, background and development formations of each structural style were discussed. Structural framework across the sub-basin reveals that the most remarkable tectonic setting is represented by the central transfer zone（CTZ） which divides the sub-basin into two independent depressions, and two kinds of sequence architectures are summarized：（i） the western multi-stage faults slope;（ii） the eastern flexure slope break belt. Combined with regional stress field of the Fushan Depression, we got plane combinations of the faults, and finally built up plan distribution maps of structural system for main sequence. Also, we discussed the controlling factors mainly focused on subsidence history and background tectonic activities such as volcanic activity and earthquakes. The analysis of structural styles and tectonic evolution provides strong theoretical support for future prospecting in the Fushan subbasin and other similar rifted basins of the Beibuwan Basin in South China Sea.

The Three-Dimensional Collagen Scaffold Improves the Sternness of Rat Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells

Mesenchymal stem cells （MSCs） show the great promise for the treatment of a variety of diseases because of their self-renewal and multipotential abilities. MSCs are generally cultured on two-dimensional （2D） substrate in vitro. There are indications that they may simultaneously lose their sternness and multipotentiality as the result of prolonged 2D culture. In this study, we used three-dimensional （3D） collagen scaffolds as rat MSCs cartier and compared the properties of MSCs on 3D collagen scaffolds with monolayer cultured MSCs. The results demonstrated that collagen scaffolds were suitable for rat MSCs adherence and proliferation. More importantly, compared to MSCs under 2D culture, 3D MSCs significantly maintained higher expression levels of stemness genes （Oct4, Sox2, Rex-1 and Nanog）, yielded high frequencies of colony-forming units-fibroblastic （CFU-F） and showed enhanced osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation efficiency upon induction. Thus, 3D collagen scaffolds may be beneficial for expanding rat MSCs while maintaining the stem cell properties in vitro.

Groundwater level prediction of landslide based on classification and regression tree

According to groundwater level monitoring data of Shuping landslide in the Three Gorges Reservoir area, based on the response relationship between influential factors such as rainfall and reservoir level and the change of groundwater level, the influential factors of groundwater level were selected. Then the classification and regression tree（CART） model was constructed by the subset and used to predict the groundwater level. Through the verification, the predictive results of the test sample were consistent with the actually measured values, and the mean absolute error and relative error is 0.28 m and 1.15%respectively. To compare the support vector machine（SVM） model constructed using the same set of factors, the mean absolute error and relative error of predicted results is 1.53 m and 6.11% respectively. It is indicated that CART model has not only better fitting and generalization ability, but also strong advantages in the analysis of landslide groundwater dynamic characteristics and the screening of important variables. It is an effective method for prediction of ground water level in landslides.
