Constructal design of a rectangular porous fin considering minimization of maximum temperature difference and pumping power consumption

A heat dissipation model of a rectangular porous fin is established based on constructal theory. First, the constructal design of rectangular porous fin is conducted by selecting a complex function minimization, which composed of linear weighting sum of maximum temperature difference and pumping power consumption, as optimization objective. Effects of gap height, air inlet velocity, total porous fin volume and porosity on the optimal constructs are investigated, respectively. The findings show that the complex function can attain its double minimum at a value of 0.802 when the fin length and number are optimized, and the corresponding optimal fin length and number are 8.01 mm and 10, respectively. In comparison to original design, the complex function and maximum temperature difference after twice optimization are decreased by 19.80% and 66.31%, respectively.Second, the comprehensive performance of porous fin is improved by simultaneously optimizing the fin length and number. The artificial neural network is applied to predict the fin performances, which is used to conduct multi-objective optimization based on NSGA-II algorithm. Optimal structure of porous fin for multiple requirements is gained by LINMAP and TOPSIS decisionmaking strategies. The findings in this study can serve as theoretical guides for fin thermal designs of electronic devices.

Target of rapamycin(TOR)is an evolutionarily conserved protein kinase that functions as a central signaling hub to integrate diverse internal and external cues to precisely orchestrate cellular and organismal physiology.During evolution,TOR both maintains the highly conserved TOR complex compositions,and cellular and molecular functions,but also evolves distinctive roles and strategies to modulate cell growth,proliferation,metabolism,survival,and stress responses in eukaryotes.Here,we review recent discoveries on the plant TOR signaling network.We present an overview of plant TOR complexes,analyze the signaling landscape of the plant TOR signaling network from the upstream signals that regulate plant TOR activation to the downstream effectors involved in various biological processes,and compare their conservation and specificities within different biological contexts.Finally,we summarize the impact of dysregulation of TOR signaling on every stage of plant growth and development,from embryogenesis and seedling growth,to flowering and senescence.

The diameter distribution function(DDF)is a crucial tool for accurately predicting stand carbon storage(CS).The current key issue,however,is how to construct a high-precision DDF based on stand factors,site quality,and aridity index to predict stand CS in multi-species mixed forests with complex structures.This study used data from70 survey plots for mixed broadleaf Populus davidiana and Betula platyphylla forests in the Mulan Rangeland State Forest,Hebei Province,China,to construct the DDF based on maximum likelihood estimation and finite mixture model(FMM).Ordinary least squares(OLS),linear seemingly unrelated regression(LSUR),and back propagation neural network(BPNN)were used to investigate the influences of stand factors,site quality,and aridity index on the shape and scale parameters of DDF and predicted stand CS of mixed broadleaf forests.The results showed that FMM accurately described the stand-level diameter distribution of the mixed P.davidiana and B.platyphylla forests;whereas the Weibull function constructed by MLE was more accurate in describing species-level diameter distribution.The combined variable of quadratic mean diameter(Dq),stand basal area(BA),and site quality improved the accuracy of the shape parameter models of FMM;the combined variable of Dq,BA,and De Martonne aridity index improved the accuracy of the scale parameter models.Compared to OLS and LSUR,the BPNN had higher accuracy in the re-parameterization process of FMM.OLS,LSUR,and BPNN overestimated the CS of P.davidiana but underestimated the CS of B.platyphylla in the large diameter classes(DBH≥18 cm).BPNN accurately estimated stand-and species-level CS,but it was more suitable for estimating stand-level CS compared to species-level CS,thereby providing a scientific basis for the optimization of stand structure and assessment of carbon sequestration capacity in mixed broadleaf forests.

In this paper,we define a relative equivariant coarse index for proper actions and a relative L^(2)-index.We derive a relative equivariant coarse index theorem connecting the relative equivariant coarse index with the localized equivariant coarse index.Furthermore,we present a calculation formula on the relative L^(2)-index and provide a relative L^(2)-index theorem.Our work is an expansion of the relative index theory which reflects the difference between two manifolds.

Background:With the emergence of cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated protein-4(CTLA-4)inhibitors,the outcomes of patients with malignant tumors have improved significantly.However,the incidence of cardiovascular adverse events has also increased,which can affect tumor treatment.In this study,we evaluated the incidence and severity of adverse cardiovascular events caused by CTLA-4 inhibitors by analyzing reported trials that involved CTLA-4 inhibitor therapy.Methods:Randomized clinical trials published in English from January 1,2013,to November 30,2022,were searched using the Cochrane Library and PubMed databases.All included trials examined all grade and grades 3–5 cardiac and vascular adverse events.These involved comparisons of CTLA-4 inhibitors to placebo,CTLA-4 inhibitors plus chemotherapy to chemotherapy alone,CTLA-4 inhibitors combined with PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors to PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors alone,and CTLA-4 inhibitors plus target agent to PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors plus target agent.The odds ratio(OR)and corresponding 95%confidence intervals(CIs)were calculated using the Mantel-Haenszel method.Results:Overall,20 trials were included.CTLA-4 inhibitors significantly increased the incidence of all-grade cardiovascular toxicity(OR=1.33,95%CI:1.00–1.75,p=0.05).The incidence of all-grade cardiovascular toxicity increased in malignant tumor patients who received single-agent CTLA-4 inhibitors(OR=1.73,95%CI:1.13–2.65,p=0.01),as well as the incidence rate of grades 3–5 cardiovascular adverse events(OR=2.00,95%CI:1.08–3.70,p=0.03).Compared with the non-CTLA-4 inhibitor group,CTLA-4 inhibitors plus chemotherapy,PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors,or target agent did not significantly affect the incidence of cardiac and vascular toxicity.The incidence of grades 3–5 cardiac failure,hypertension,pericardial effusion,myocarditis,and atrial fibrillation were much higher among patients exposed to CTLA-4 inhibitor,but the data were not statistically significant.Conclusion:Our findings suggest that the incidence rate of all cardiovascular toxicity an

Widespread distribution of livestock in the natural habitats of large carnivores may negatively impact carnivore populations by reducing wild prey availability and increasing human–carnivore conﬂicts.In this study,we used camera-trapping data collected in the temperate forests of the Taihang Mountains in North China during 2016–2019 to examine whether and how free-ranging cattle affected habitat use and Diel activity patterns of the endangered North Chinese leopard(Panthera pardus japonensis)and its 2 wild prey species,Siberian roe deer(Capreolus pygargus),and wild boar(Sus scrofa).Residents were also interviewed to record livestock depredation events by leopards during 2015–2019.We found that roe deer spatially avoided sites frequented by cattle,but wild boar did not.In the growing seasons,leopards shared habitats with cattle and tended to increase their diurnal activities where cattle were present.All 3 study species exhibitedﬁne-scale spatial-temporal segregation to cattle.Leopards selectively preyed on calves over adult cattle and livestock depredation frequency was positively correlated with the detection rates of cattle and wild prey,but not that of leopard.Theseﬁndings not only show that through behavioral adaption large carnivores and their ungulate prey may persist under livestock disturbance,but also highlight how important proper livestock management is for conserving North Chinese leopards in this region.To enhance livestock management and mitigate human–leopard conﬂicts,we recommend speciﬁc actions,such as better guarding of free-ranging cattle or adoption of a captive farming system.

Background:The incidence of clear cell renal cell carcinoma(ccRCC)is globally high;however,despite the introduction of innovative drug therapies,there remains a lack of effective biomarkers for evaluating treatment response.Recently,Caspase recruiting domain-containing protein 11(CARD11)has garnered attention due to its significant association with tumor development and the immune system.Methods:The expression of CARD11 mRNA and protein in ccRCC were analyzed by public database and immunohistochemistry.The focus of this study is on the epigenomic modifications of CARD11,its expression of ccRCC immunophenotype,and its correlation with response to immunotherapy and targeted therapy.Furthermore,to investigate the mechanism of this molecule’s influence on different biological behaviors of cells,cell tests in vitro have been conducted to observe the impact of its expression level.Results:CARD11 expression was upregulated which may be mainly modified by body methylation and was correlated with poor prognosis in ccRCC.In the tumor microenvironment of ccRCC,CARD11 expression was positively correlated with increased T lymphocyte infiltration and increased expression of inhibitory immune checkpoints.Moreover,ccRCC patients with high CARD11 expression had a better response to immunotherapy and targeted therapy.The knockdown of CARD11 ultimately suppressed the proliferation,migration,and invasion capabilities of ccRCC cells while simultaneously enhancing tumor cell apoptosis.Conclusion:We identified CARD11 as a novel therapeutic biomarker for immunotherapy and targeted therapy in ccRCC.

Quantum key distribution(QKD),rooted in quantum mechanics,offers information-theoretic security.However,practi-cal systems open security threats due to imperfections,notably bright-light blinding attacks targeting single-photon detectors.Here,we propose a concise,robust defense strategy for protecting single-photon detectors in QKD systems against blinding attacks.Our strategy uses a dual approach:detecting the bias current of the avalanche photodiode(APD)to defend against con-tinuous-wave blinding attacks,and monitoring the avalanche amplitude to protect against pulsed blinding attacks.By integrat-ing these two branches,the proposed solution effectively identifies and mitigates a wide range of bright light injection attempts,significantly enhancing the resilience of QKD systems against various bright-light blinding attacks.This method forti-fies the safeguards of quantum communications and offers a crucial contribution to the field of quantum information security.
