Source apportionment of PM_(2.5)using PMF combined online bulk and single-particle measurements:Contribution of fireworks and biomass burning

Fireworks(FW)could significantly worsen air quality in short term during celebrations.Due to similar tracers with biomass burning(BB),the fast and precise qualification of FW and BB is still challenging.In this study,online bulk and single-particle measurements were combined to investigate the contributions of FW and BB to the overall mass concentrations of PM_(2.5)and specific chemical species by positive matrix factorization(PMF)during the Chinese New Year in Hong Kong in February 2013.With combined information,fresh/aged FW(abundant ^(140)K_(2)NO_(3)^(+)and ^(213)K_(3)SO_(4)^(+)formed from ^(113)K_(2)Cl^(+)discharged by fresh FW)can be extracted from the fresh/aged BB sources,in addition to the Second Aerosol,Vehicles+Road Dust,and Sea Salt factors.The contributions of FW and BB were investigated during three high particle matter episodes influenced by the pollution transported from the Pearl River Delta region.The fresh BB/FW contributed 39.2%and 19.6%to PM_(2.5)during the Lunar Chinese New Year case.However,the contributions of aged FW/BB enhanced in the last two episodes due to the aging process,evidenced by high contributions from secondary aerosols.Generally,the fresh BB/FW showed more significant contributions to nitrate(35.1%and15.0%,respectively)compared with sulfate(25.1%and 5.9%,respectively)and OC(14.8%and11.1%,respectively)on average.In comparison,the aged FW contributed more to sulfate(13.4%).Overall,combining online bulk and single-particle measurement data can combine both instruments’advantages and provide a new perspective for applying source apportionment of aerosols using PMF.

Diagnostic C9orf72 hexanucleotide repeat expansions(C9-HRE)is essential for the early and accurate diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)and will provide support for the prognosis and gene therapy of ALS.In the present study,by combining catalytic hairpin assembly(CHA)with Mycobacterium smegmatis porin A(MspA)nanopore,a new nanopore-based strategy for the detection of C9-HRE was reported.Less than 30 repeats of C9-HRE could be detected via this method,and the results have the potential to help distinguish between patients and healthy individuals.Moreover,the method demonstrated its great specificity for C9-HRE by identifying other repeat expansions.Given the high selectivity,this approach had been successfully used to detect C9-HRE in cell and blood samples with high accuracy.This detection strategy is user-friendly and has a strong anti-interference ability,thus providing a powerful tool for clinical diagnosis.

Benefitting from narrow beam divergence,photonic crystal surface-emitting lasers are expected to play an essential role in the ever-growing fields of optical communication and light detection and ranging.Lasers operating with 1.55μm wavelengths have attracted particular attention due to their minimum fiber loss and high eye-safe threshold.However,high interband absorption significantly decreases their performance at this 1.55μm wavelength.Therefore,stronger optical feedback is needed to reduce their threshold and thus improve the output power.Toward this goal,photonic-crystal resonators with deep holes and high dielectric contrast are often used.Nevertheless,the relevant techniques for high-contrast photonic crystals inevitably complicate fabrication and reduce the final yield.In this paper,we demonstrate the first continuous-wave operation of 1.55μm photonic-crystal surface-emitting lasers by using a‘triple-lattice photonic-crystal resonator’,which superimposes three lattice point groups to increase the strength of in-plane optical feedback.Using this geometry,the in-plane 180°coupling can be enhanced threefold compared to the normal single-lattice structure.Detailed theoretical and experimental investigations demonstrate the much lower threshold current density of this structure compared to‘single-lattice’and‘double-lattice’photonic-crystal resonators,verifying our design principles.Our findings provide a new strategy for photonic crystal laser miniaturization,which is crucial for realizing their use in future high-speed applications.

BMP7 expression in mammalian cortical radial glial cells increases the length of the neurogenic period

The seat of human intelligence is the human cerebral cortex,which is responsible for our exceptional cognitive abilities.Identifying principles that lead to the development of the large-sized human cerebral cortex will shed light on what makes the human brain and species so special.The remarkable increase in the number of human cortical pyramidal neurons and the size of the human cerebral cortex is mainly because human cortical radial glial cells,primary neural stem cells in the cortex,generate cortical pyramidal neurons for more than 130 days,whereas the same process takes only about 7 days in mice.The molecular mechanisms underlying this difference are largely unknown.Here,we found that bone morphogenic protein 7(BMP7)is expressed by increasing the number of corti-cal radial glial cells during mammalian evolution(mouse,ferret,monkey,and human).BMP7 expression in cortical radial glial cells promotes neurogenesis,inhibits gliogenesis,and thereby increases the length of the neurogenic period,whereas Sonic Hedgehog(SHH)signaling promotes cortical gliogenesis.We demonstrate that BMP7 sign-aling and SHH signaling mutually inhibit each other through regulation of GLI3 repressor formation.We propose that BMP7 drives the evolutionary expansion of the mammalian cortex by increasing the length of the neurogenic period.

BEDiff: denoising diffusion probabilistic models for building extraction

Accurately identifying building distribution from remote sensing images with complex background information is challenging. The emergence of diffusion models has prompted the innovative idea of employing the reverse denoising process to distill building distribution from these complex backgrounds. Building on this concept， we propose a novel framework， BEDiff， which meticulously refines the extraction of building footprints from remote sensing images in a stepwise fashion. Our approach begins with the design of Booster Guidance， a mechanism that extracts structural and semantic features from remote sensing images to serve as priors， thereby providing targeted guidance for the diffusion process. Additionally， we introduce a Cross-Feature Fusion Module (CFM) that bridges the semantic gap between different types of features， facilitating the integration of the attributes extracted by Booster Guidance into the diffusion process more effectively. Our proposed BEDiff marks the first application of diffusion models to the task of building extraction. Empirical evidence from extensive experiments on the Beijing Building Dataset demonstrates the superior performance of BEDiff， affirming its effectiveness and potential for enhancing the accuracy of building extraction in complex urban landscapes.

同一性概念和必然性概念是当代哲学中的重要概念,同一性问题和必然性问题是当代哲学中的重要问题。克里普克提出的必然同一理论,对于当代哲学和逻辑都产生了重大影响。克里普克认为,同一陈述的哲学释义基于对必然性作出的形而上学界定和本体论反思,由专名构成的同一陈述和科学理论同一陈述,如果它们是真的,那么它们就是必然的。必然同一理论更深层次的论证根基,是基于严格指示词和摹状词的截然二分,严格区分二者的逻辑作用,才能有力地拒斥偶然同一的观点,从而为必然同一作出辩护。克里普克必然同一理论促进了其本质主义的发展,只有本质能够经得起必然性的检验,是一个个体保持与其自身同一的唯一标准。从严格指示词和摹状词的区分论述克里普克同一陈述必然性的观点,有助于深刻把握克里普克的必然同一理论,有助于加深对于当代语言哲学和形而上学相关问题的理解。

An antibody cocktail with broadened mutational resistance and effective protection against SARS-CoV-2

Neutralizing antibodies have been proven to be highly effective in treating mild and moderate COVID-19 patients,but continuous emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants poses significant challenges.Antibody cocktail treatments reduce the risk of escape mutants and resistance.In this study,a new cocktail composed of two highly potent neutralizing antibodies(HB27 and H89Y)was developed,whose binding epitope is different from those cocktails that received emergency use authorization.This cocktail showed more potent and balanced neutralizing activities(IC_(50)0.9–11.3 ng mL^(-1))against a broad spectrum of SARS-CoV-2 variants over individual HB27 or H89Y antibodies.Furthermore,the cocktail conferred more effective protection against the SARS-CoV-2 Beta variant in an aged murine model than monotherapy.It was shown to prevent SARS-CoV-2 mutational escape in vitro and effectively neutralize 61 types of pseudoviruses harbouring single amino acid mutation originated from variants and escape strains of Bamlanivimab,Casirivimab and Imdevimab with IC_(50)of 0.6–65 ng mL^(-1).Despite its breadth of variant neutralization,the HB27+H89Y combo and EUA cocktails lost their potencies against Omicron variant.Our results provide important insights that new antibody cocktails covering different epitopes are valuable tools to counter virus mutation and escape,highlighting the need to search for more conserved epitopes to combat Omicron.

“身体转向”与“空间转向”是20世纪西方哲学的两大转向,元宇宙问题的出现,将身体理论与空间理论引入了技术领域。元宇宙场域的复杂性特征,促使虚拟身体、真实身体与元宇宙空间形态及其关系问题具有新意涵。三种形态被置于多维度的交互中,既可能导向抽象空间,重构二元对立的哲学传统,使虚拟身体和真实身体在离身化中分裂,也可能导向差异性空间,模糊空间与身体的界限,使虚拟身体和真实身体在具身化中聚合,生产出全新意涵。观察、阐释元宇宙空间中缠绕着的复杂辩证关系,正是将元宇宙问题上升到形而上学层面的重要途径。

赤道和秘鲁海域茎柔鱼渔场时空分布与水温相关性分析

茎柔鱼(Dosidicus gigas)广泛分布于东太平洋海域,是我国远洋鱿钓渔船重要的捕捞对象。茎柔鱼渔场易受气候变化和海洋环境的影响,且影响具有显著的地域差异。本文依据2012—2018年东南太平洋茎柔鱼渔获数据,结合海表面温度(SST),对比分析水温对秘鲁和赤道海域茎柔鱼渔场时空分布的影响差异。结果显示,赤道和秘鲁茎柔鱼渔场内SST呈现明显的年际和月间变化,赤道海域SST明显高于秘鲁海域。赤道和秘鲁茎柔鱼渔场的SST范围存在明显差异:12月适宜SST范围分别为23~24℃和20~21℃;1月适宜SST范围分别为23℃和21~23℃;2月适宜SST范围分别为24~25℃和23~24℃。同时,研究发现Ni1o 3.4指数与SST呈显著的正相关,但秘鲁海域SST的变化具有滞后性。此外,拉尼娜事件改变了茎柔鱼两个渔场内的SST分布范围,从而影响了茎柔鱼渔场的时空分布,主要表现为:拉尼娜事件发生时,赤道和秘鲁茎柔鱼渔场的SST会降低,适宜的水温面积会扩张;捕捞努力量在不同经纬度上会明显增加;渔场空间上相对正常气候年份更为分散。

A spike-trimer protein-based tetravalent COVID-19 vaccine elicits enhanced breadth of neutralization against SARS-CoV-2 Omicron subvariants and other variants

Multivalent vaccines combining crucial mutations from phylogenetically divergent variants could be an effective approach to defend against existing and future SARS-Co V-2 variants.In this study,we developed a tetravalent COVID-19 vaccine SCTV01E,based on the trimeric Spike protein of SARS-Co V-2 variants Alpha,Beta,Delta,and Omicron BA.1,with a squalenebased oil-in-water adjuvant SCT-VA02B.In the immunogenicity studies in na?ve BALB/c and C57BL/6J mice,SCTV01E exhibited the most favorable immunogenic characteristics to induce balanced and broad-spectrum neutralizing potencies against pre-Omicron variants(D614G,Alpha,Beta,and Delta)and newly emerging Omicron subvariants(BA.1,BA.1.1,BA.2,BA.3,and BA.4/5).Booster studies in C57BL/6J mice previously immunized with D614G monovalent vaccine demonstrated superior neutralizing capacities of SCTV01E against Omicron subvariants,compared with the D614G booster regimen.Furthermore,SCTV01E vaccination elicited na?ve and central memory T cell responses to SARS-Co V-2 ancestral strain and Omicron spike peptides.Together,our comprehensive immunogenicity evaluation results indicate that SCTV01E could become an important COVID-19 vaccine platform to combat surging infections caused by the highly immune evasive BA.4/5 variants.SCTV01E is currently being studied in a head-to-head immunogenicity comparison phase 3 clinical study with inactivated and m RNA vaccines(NCT05323461).
