Background and Ai.s: To evaluate the effect of i.trapar-enchymal transplantati.n of mesenchymal bone marrow-deri.ed stem cells (BMSCs) i. pati.nts wi.h hepati.i. C vi.us (HCV)-related li.er ci.rhosi. (LC). Methods: Mononuclear cells were i.olated from pati.nt bone marrow and were passaged several ti.es i. vi.ro i. order to reach the requi.ed volume. Attri.utes of the BMSCs were evaluated by the presence of the surface markers CD105+, CD90+, and CD73+. Cells from each passage were evaluated for steri.i.y, and they were transplanted i.traparenchymally i.to li.er ti.sue. Cli.i.al and laboratory data were evaluated and morphologi.al studi.s of li.er bi.psy were performed pri.r to and 6 months after transplantati.n. Results: On cli.i.al evaluati.n, the general state of these pati.nts was i.proved at 1 month followi.g transplantati.n of BMSCs. At 1 and 6 months post-transplantati.n, jaundi.e was absent i. four (67%) pati.nts. After 6 months, functi.nal hepati. i.di.es were i.proved, i.e. decrease of ALT and AST acti.i.y and bi.i.ubi. level. However, these decreases were not stati.ti.ally di.ferent (P>0.05). Expressi.n of CD34 and α-SMA i. li.er bi.psy samples were decreased at 6 months after transplanta-ti.n, consi.tent wi.h structural i.provements i. mi.ochondri. and nuclear compartments. Conclusi.ns: i.traparenchymal transplantati.n of autologous BMSCs i.proved the functi.nal condi.i.n of the li.er, sti.ulated reparati.e processes i. hepatocytes, and decreased extracellular matri. protei. (EMP) count i. hepati. ti.sues of pati.nts wi.h LC. i. was well tolerated and was not associ.ted wi.h any compli.ati.ns both duri.g and after BMSC transplantati.n.

Mi.robi.l enhanced oi. recovery （MEOR） methods apply i.jecti.n of bacteri. to depleted oi. reservoi.s to produce oi., whi.h had remai.ed unrecovered after the conventi.nal methods of producti.n. The abi.i.y ofthermophi.i. anaerobi. bacteri. to produce gas as the mai. mechani.m i. potenti.l MEOR i. hi.h sali.i.i.s of 70-100 g/L was i.vesti.ated i. thi. study. Maxi.um gas producti.n of up to 350 mL per 700 mL of salty soluti.n was produced at a sali.i.y of 90 g/L stably duri.g 2-4 days of experi.ent. The experi.ental results were upscaled to the Snorre Oi.fi.ld, Norway, and si.ulated usi.g ECLi.SE software for 27 months. The best scenari.s showed that the i.crease i. oi. recovery on average was at 21% and 17.8% respecti.ely. Thi. study demonstrated that anaerobi. bacteri. used i. bi.gas plants could be an attracti.e candi.ate for MEOR i.plementati.n due to thei. abi.i.y to wi.hstand hi.h temperature and sali.i.y, and produce gas i. large volumes.

Background Recent changes i. cli.ati. trends are resulti.g i. an i.creased frequency and i.tensi.y of extreme events, wi.h unknown effect on ecosystem dynami.s i. the near future. Extreme drought epi.odes are recogni.ed as di.turbance factors capable of modi.yi.g forest dynami.s and tree growth. Wi.hi. thi. context, di.eci.us tree speci.s may be i.pacted by cli.ati. extremes, affecti.g male/female proporti.ns and, consequently, reproducti.e processes and speci.s persi.tence. Therefore, there i. an urgent need for speci.s-speci.i. assessments of growth tolerance to extreme dry spells i. di.eci.us tree speci.s, to establi.h effecti.e conservati.n strategi.s for these parti.ular natural resources. Araucari. araucana(araucari.), an endangered di.eci.us Patagoni.n tree speci.s, has recently undergone decay and mortali.y epi.odes i. response to i.creasi.g dry cli.ati. condi.i.ns. The Monte Desert i. characteri.ed by a great di.ersi.y of landforms created wi.h fluvi.l， alluvi.l whi.h the vegetati.n patterns are related to. The present work has the followi.g objecti.es: 1: determi.e whether topographi.al attri.utes， surface characteri.ti.s， soi. properti.s and vegetati.n patterns vary between alluvi.l landforms， and 2: defi.e whether morphometri.， soi. and surface properti.s i.fluence vegetati.n patterns along alluvi.l landscape. Morphometri. data were obtai.ed by processi.g a 5 m di.i.al elevati.n model. The coverage of rock fragments， fi.e sedi.ents and mulch was quanti.i.d. Observati.ns and descri.ti.ns of the soi. profi.es were restri.ted to the uppermost 50 cm. Vegetati.n properti.s were calculated usi.g a Poi.t Quadrat Method. The relati.nshi. between vari.bles was evaluated through multi.ari.te stati.ti.al analysi.. The mai. results show the presence of 45 plant speci.s di.tri.uted i. 19 fami.i.s， where shrubs are domi.ant. The wi.d effect， topographi. wetness and di.secti.n of the landscape are li.i.i.g factors of di.ersi.y. The coverage of superfi.i.l rock fragments i.fluence vegetati.n coverage through the di.tri.uti.n and avai.abi.i.y of rai.water. Furthermore， the di.ferent soi. textures reveal that the si.t content favors an i.crease i. vegetati.n coverage. The presence of V hori.on could condi.i.n the i.stallati.n and development of vegetati.n i. the early stages of growth.

Pappophorum vagi.atum i. the most abundant C4 perenni.l grass desi.able to li.estock i. rangelands of northeastern Patagoni., Argenti.a. We hypothesi.ed that （1） defoli.ti.n reduce net pri.ary producti.i.y, and root length densi.y and wei.ht i. the nati.e speci.s, and （2） root net pri.ary producti.i.y, and root length densi.y and wei.ht, are greater i. P. vagi.atum than i. the other, less desi.able, nati.e speci.s （i.e., Ari.ti.a spegazzi.fi. A. subulata and Sporobolus cryptandrus）. Plants of all speci.s were ei.her exposed or not to a severe defoli.ti.n twi.e a year duri.g two growi.g seasons. Root proli.erati.n was measured usi.g the cyli.der method. Cyli.dri.al, i.on structures, wrapped up usi.g nylon mesh, were buri.d di.gonally from the peri.hery to the center on i.di.i.ual plants. These structures, i.i.i.lly fi.led wi.h soi. wi.hout any organi. resi.ue, were dug up from the soi. on 25 Apri. 2008, after two successi.e defoli.ti.ns i. mi.-spri.g 2007. Duri.g the second growi.g season （2008-2009）, cyli.ders were destructi.ely harvested on 4 Apri. 2009, after one or two defoli.ti.ns i. mi.- and/or late-spri.g, respecti.ely. Roots grown i.to the cyli.ders were obtai.ed after washi.g the soi. manually. Defoli.ti.n duri.g two successi.e years di. reduce the study vari.bles only after plants of all speci.s were defoli.ted twi.e, whi.h supported the fi.st hypothesi.. The greater root net pri.ary producti.i.y, root length den- si.y and wei.ht i. P. vagi.atum than i. the other nati.e speci.s, i. support of the second hypothesi., could help to explai. i.s greater abundance i. rangelands of Argenti.a.
