Oral administration of nutrient/drug is the most common and preferred route. However, a number of barriers are encountered after ingestion, limiting efficient oral nutrient/drug absorption. Both lipid-based (e.g., nanoemulsion, solid lipid nanoparticles) and polymer-based (e.g., protein and polysaccharide nanoparticles) nanoscale delivery systems have demonstrated capability to overcome some of these physiological barriers during transportation and metabolism stages. To better deal with those barriers, polymer-lipid complex nanoparticles are being explored and developed to merge the beneficial features and overcome the respective shortcomings of lipid-based and polymer-based nanoparticles. This paper aims to provide an overview of the various preparation strategies and supramolecular interactions of orally administered polymer-lipid complex nanoparticles by reviewing recent studies. Two types of polymer-lipid complex nanoparticles have been developed, i.e., lipid core with polymer shell nanoparticles and polymer core with lipid shell nanoparticles (lipid-polymer hybrid nanoparticles). Besides, both natural and synthetic polymers used for fabrication are discussed and their advantages and disadvantages are highlighted. Further research work is needed to optimize the fabrication and scaling up processes, so that these versatile polymer-lipid complex nanoparticles could have a significant impact on the oral delivery of nutrient/drug.

Curcumin, commonly used as a coloring agent as well as food additive, has exhibited great therapeutic efficacy for development of functional foods. In order to expand its applications in food, strategies are needed to tackle the poor water-solubility, bioavailability and bioaccessibility of curcumin. Nanoparticles made from individual biomaterials such as proteins, polysaccharides and lipids have been introduced and their properties have been comprehensively studied. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in nanocomplexes made from two or more biomaterials because of their ability to composite the advantages of various components. This review has specific focus on the nanocomplexes fabricated from proteins and polysaccharides. First, complexation methods with or without chemical covalent bond formation are summarized, while different methods with different degrees of complexation are discussed. The encapsulation strategies of curcumin, both traditional and newly invented, are also compared. Then, the structure and physicochemical properties of the resulting binary or ternary nanocomplexes are discussed in detail, as well as a comparison of the delivery efficiency. Last but not least, the current limitations and future directions in the development of curcumin-loaded biopolymer nanoparticles for the design of future food products are presented.

The functional formula diet AHP, containing polysaccharides from Auricularia auricular, polyphenolic compounds from Hawthorn (Crataegus) and Pueraria radix, has been recently developed as a dietary intervention against dyslipidemia in our previous study. In the present study, its antioxidant activities and protective effects against proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) were investigated. AHP possessed the potent radical-scavenging effects against hydroxyl and superoxide radicals, and also the inhibitory effects against peroxidation of low density lipoprotein induced by Cu2+ in vitro. The protective effects of AHP against proliferation of VSMCs were evaluated through the methodology of serum pharmacology. The serum containing AHP significantly inhibited the proliferation of VSMCs induced by oxidized low density lipoprotein in a time- and dose-dependent manner, and also promoted the nitric oxide production of VSMCs. Our study indicated that this functional formula diet would be a potent alternative as a functional diet to prevent atherosclerosis at early stage.

Salinity is recognized as a pivotal factor limiting the migration of freshwater fish to brackish *** largemouth bass(LMB,Micropterus salmoides),a globally translocated freshwater fish,exhibits estuarine distribution,yet its hyperosmoregulatory capacity during early ontogenetic stages remains inadequately *** investigate the impact of freshwater salinization,a series of experiments were conducted in Guangzhou and Foshan,*** reveal that freshwater-activated mature eggs and naturally fertilized oocytes maintained nearly identical osmotic homeostasis,with diameters of 1.38±0.07 mm and 1.37±0.05 mm,***,both exhibited peak water excretion at a salinity of ***,a reduction in water permeability was observed in hyperosmotic *** hatching rates increased from 27.5%±14.4%in the 1.0 group to 75.1%±12.0%in the 6.0 group under fluctuating temperature ***-sac LMB larvae consistently reduced survival time from 12.5 d at 1.0 to 50.7±2.1 min at salinity of ***,more developed larvae also experienced a decrease in survival *** regression models fitting lethal time with salinity indicated a sharp decrease between 10.0 and *** findings offer practical insights for predicting distribution patterns and enhancing aquaculture technology for ***,they may contribute theoretically to the broader understanding of the osmoregulatory mechanisms of freshwater fish.

Programmed cell death(PCD)is essential for animal and plant ***,the knowledge of the mechanism regulating PCD in plants remains limited,largely due to technical ***,we determined that the protease NtCP14 could trigger PCD in the embryonic suspensor of tobacco(Nicotiana tabacum),providing a unique opportunity to overcome the limitations by creating synchronous two-celled proembryos with ongoing PCD for transcriptome analysis and regulatory factor ***,we performed comparative transcriptome analysis using isolated two-celled proembryos and explored the potential regulatory network underlying NtCP14-triggered *** phytohormones,calcium,microtubule organization,the immunity system,soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor proteins,long non-coding RNAs and alternative splicing are addressed as critical factors involved in the early stage of suspensor *** thought to play crucial roles in suspensor PCD are ***,decreased antioxidant gene expression and increased reactive oxygen species(ROS)levels during suspensor PCD suggest a critical role for ROS signaling in the initiation of NtCP14-triggered ***,five genes in the regulatory network are recommended as immediate downstream elements of ***,our analysis outlines an overall molecular network underlying protease-triggered PCD and provides a reliable database and valuable clues for targeting elements immediately downstream of NtCP14 to overcome technical bottlenecks and gain deep insight into the molecular mechanism regulating plant PCD.

High-dimensional data(a dataset with many features)were collected from 64 sampling sites to analyze the water quality in estuaries along the coast of the Bohai Sea,North *** twenty-five water quality parameters analyzed were collected monthly from January 2021 to December *** statistical techniques,such as the absolute principal component score-multiple linear regression model(APCS-MLR),correlation analysis,and analysis of variance were used to identify and quantify the potential sources or factors affecting water quality and to analyze the spatial-temporal variation in water *** water quality indices(WQIs),ranging from 67.96 to 70.67,showed that the water quality was at an intermediate level in the estuaries during both the flood and nonflood *** concentrations of total phosphorus(TP),ammonia N(AN),and organic pollutants were greater in the Haihe River Basin than in the Liaohe River and Huanghe-Huaihe River *** concentration of total nitrogen(TN)in the Haihe River Basin was lower than that in the Liaohe River and Huanghe-Huaihe River *** metal concentrations in the Liaohe River Basin were greater than those in the Haihe River and Huanghe-Huaihe River *** annual mean concentrations of AN in the estuaries of the Haihe,Liaohe,and Huanghe(Yellow)rivers exhibited significant decreasing trends from 2013 to 2022,but no significant decreasing trends were found for permanganate index(COD_(Mn))or the *** concentrations of TN and AN were lower in the flood season than in the nonflood season,and the TP concentration was greater in the flood season than in the nonflood ***,the concentrations of organic pollutants did not exhibit significant *** sewage and industrial wastewater,substance exchange between air and water,nonpoint sources from rural and urban areas,and aquaculture wastewater were the major sources or factors responsible for water pollution in the estuaries.
