Towards accurate mapping of loess waterworn gully by integrating google earth imagery and DEM using deep learning

Accurate mapping of loess waterworn gully(LWG)is essential to further study gully erosion and geomorphological evolution for the Chinese Loess Plateau(CLP).Due to the vertical joint and collapsibility of loess,LWGs have the characteristics of zigzag and unique slope abruptness under synthetic action of hydraulic force and *** forces existing LWG mapping methods to either focus on the improvement of mapping accuracy or center on the increase of mapping ***,simultaneously achieving accurate and efficient mapping of LWG is still in its infancy under complex topographic ***,we proposed a method that innovatively integrates the loess slope abruptness feature into an improved deep learning semantic segmentation framework for LWG mapping using 0.6 m Google imagery and 5 m DEM *** selected four study areas representing typical loess landforms to test the performance of our *** proposed method can achieve satisfactory mapping results,with the F1 score,mean Intersection-over-Union(mIoU),and overall accuracy of 90.5%,85.3%,and 92.3%,*** addition,the proposed model also showed significant accuracy improvement by inputting additional topographic information(especially the slope of slope).Compared with existing algorithms(Random forests,original DeepLabV3+,and Unet),the proposed approach in this study achieved a better accuracy-efficiency ***,the method can ensure high accuracy and efficiency of the LWG mapping for different loess landform types and can be extended to study various loess gully mapping and water and soil conservation.

In multicellular organisms,developmental history of cell divisions and functional annotation of terminal cells can be organized into a cell lineage tree(CLT).The reconstruction of the CLT has long been a major goal in developmental biology and other related *** technological advancements,especially those in editable genomic barcodes and single-cell high-throughput sequencing,have sparked a new wave of experimental methods for reconstructing *** we review the existing experimental approaches to the reconstruction of CLT,which are broadly categorized as either image-based or DNA barcode-based *** addition,we present a summary of the related literature based on the biological insight pro-vided by the obtained ***,we discuss the challenges that will arise as more and better CLT data become available in the near *** barcoding-based CLT reconstructions and analyses,due to their wide applicability and high scalability,offer the potential for novel biological discoveries,especially those related to general and systemic properties of the developmental process.

BACKGROUND Intestinal barrier breakdown,a frequent complication of intestinal ischemiareperfusion(I/R)including dysfunction and the structure changes of the intestine,is characterized by a loss of tight junction and enhanced permeability of the intestinal barrier and increased *** develop effective and novel therapeutics is important for the improvement of outcome of patients with intestinal barrier *** human angiopoietin-like protein 4(rhANGPTL4)is reported to protect the blood-brain barrier when administered exogenously,and endogenous ANGPTL4 deficiency deteriorates radiationinduced intestinal *** To identify whether rhANGPTL4 may protect intestinal barrier breakdown induced by I/*** Intestinal I/R injury was elicited through clamping the superior mesenteric artery for 60 min followed by 240 min *** epithelial(Caco-2)cells and human umbilical vein endothelial cells were challenged by hypoxia/reoxygenation to mimic I/R in *** Indicators including fluorescein isothiocyanate-conjugated dextran(4 kilodaltons;FD-4)clearance,ratio of phosphorylated myosin light chain/total myosin light chain,myosin light chain kinase and loss of zonula occludens-1,claudin-2 and VE-cadherin were significantly increased after intestinal I/R or cell hypoxia/***4 treatment significantly reversed these indicators,which were associated with inhibiting the inflammatory and oxidative cascade,excessive activation of cellular autophagy and apoptosis and improvement of survival *** results were observed in vitro when cells were challenged by hypoxia/reoxygenation,whereas rhANGPTL4 reversed the indicators close to normal level in Caco-2 cells and human umbilical vein endothelial cells *** rhANGPTL4 can function as a protective agent against intestinal injury induced by intestinal I/R and improve survival via maintenance of intestinal barrier structure and functions.

Coupled conditional nonlinear optimal perturbations and their application to ENSO ensemble forecasts

Limitations are existed in current ensemble forecasting initial perturbation methods for describing the interactions among various spheres of the Earth system. In this study, a new method is proposed, namely, the coupled conditional nonlinear optimal perturbation(C-CNOP) method, which incorporates multisphere interactions much appropriately. The El Nino-Southern Oscillation(ENSO) is a typical ocean-atmosphere “coupling”(or “interaction”) phenomenon. The C-CNOP method is applied to ensemble forecasting of ENSO. It is demonstrated that the C-CNOP method can generate coupled initial perturbations(CPs) that appropriately consider initial ocean-atmosphere coupling uncertainty for ENSO ensemble forecasts. Results reveal that the CPs effectively improve the ability of ENSO ensemble-mean forecasts in both temporal variability of Nio3.4 sea surface temperature anomalies(SSTAs) and spatial variability of ENSO mature-phase SSTAs. Notably, despite the weakest ocean-atmosphere coupling strength in the tropical Pacific occurring during the boreal spring and summer, CPs still capture the uncertainties of this weak coupling when ENSO predictions are initialized at these seasons. This performance of CPs significantly suppresses the rapid increase of ENSO prediction errors due to the high ocean-atmosphere coupling instability during these seasons, and thus effectively extends the lead time of skillful ENSO forecasting. Hence, the C-CNOP method is a suitable initial perturbation approach for ENSO ensemble forecast that can describe initial ocean-atmosphere coupling uncertainty. It is expected that the CCNOP method plays a significant role in predictions of other high-impact climate phenomena, and even future Earth system predictions.

Self-Triggered Set Stabilization of Boolean Control Networks and Its Applications

Set stabilization is one of the essential problems in engineering systems, and self-triggered control(STC) can save the storage space for interactive information, and can be successfully applied in networked control systems with limited communication resources. In this study, the set stabilization problem and STC design of Boolean control networks are investigated via the semi-tensor product technique. On the one hand, the largest control invariant subset is calculated in terms of the strongly connected components of the state transition graph, by which a graph-theoretical condition for set stabilization is derived. On the other hand, a characteristic function is exploited to determine the triggering mechanism and feasible controls. Based on this, the minimum-time and minimum-triggering open-loop, state-feedback and output-feedback STCs for set stabilization are designed,respectively. As classic applications of self-triggered set stabilization, self-triggered synchronization, self-triggered output tracking and self-triggered output regulation are discussed as well. Additionally, several practical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of theoretical results.

Bacterial infection is a major issue after artificial bone transplantation due to the absence of antibacterial function of bone scaffold,which seriously causes the transplant failure and even amputation in severe *** this study,oxygen vacancy(OV)defects Fe-doped Ti O2(OV-FeTiO2)nanoparticles were synthesized by nano TiO2and Fe3O4via high-energy ball milling,which was then incorporated into polycaprolactone/polyglycolic acid(PCLGA)biodegradable polymer matrix to construct composite bone scaffold with good antibacterial activities by selective laser *** results indicated that OV defects were introduced into the core/shell-structured OV-FeTiO2nanoparticles through multiple welding and breaking during the high-energy ball milling,which facilitated the adsorption of hydrogen peroxide(H2O2)in the bacterial infection microenvironment at the bone transplant *** accumulated H2O2could amplify the Fenton reaction efficiency to induce more hydroxyl radicals(·OH),thereby resulting in more bacterial deaths through·OH-mediated oxidative *** antibacterial strategy had more effective broad-spectrum antibacterial properties against Gram-negative Escherichia coli(***)and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus(***).In addition,the PCLGA/OV-FeTiO2scaffold possessed mechanical properties that match those of human cancellous bone and good biocompatibility including cell attachment,proliferation and osteogenic differentiation.
