Metal ions participate in many metabolic processes in the human body,and their homeostasis is crucial for life.In cardiovascular diseases(CVDs),the equilibriums of metal ions are frequently interrupted,which are related to a variety of disturbances of physiological processes leading to abnormal cardiac functions.Exogenous supplement of metal ions has the potential to work as therapeutic strategies for the treatment of CVDs.Compared with other therapeutic drugs,metal ions possess broad availability,good stability and safety and diverse drug delivery strategies.The delivery strategies of metal ions are important to exert their ther-apeutic effects and reduce the potential toxic side effects for cardiovascular applications,which are also receiving increasing attention.Controllable local delivery strategies for metal ions based on various biomaterials are constantly being designed.In this review,we comprehensively summarized the positive roles of metal ions in the treatment of cVDs from three aspects:protecting cells from oxidative stress,inducing angiogenesis,and adjusting the functions of ion channels.In addition,we introduced the transferability of metal ions in vascular reconstruction and cardiac tissue repair,as well as the currently available engineered strategies for the precise delivery of metal ions,such as integrated with nanoparticles,hydrogels and scaffolds.

Intermittent Theta Burst Stimulation Attenuates Cognitive Deficits and Alzheimer’s Disease-Type Pathologies via ISCA1-Mediated Mitochondrial Modulation in APP/PS1 Mice

Intermittent theta burst stimulation(iTBS),a time-saving and cost-effective repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation regime,has been shown to improve cognition in patients with Alzheimer’s disease(AD).However,the specific mechanism underlying iTBS-induced cognitive enhancement remains unknown.Previous studies suggested that mitochondrial functions are modulated by magnetic stimulation.Here,we showed that iTBS upregulates the expression of iron-sulfur cluster assembly 1(ISCA1,an essential regulatory factor for mitochondrial respiration)in the brain of APP/PS1 mice.In vivo and in vitro studies revealed that iTBS modulates mitochondrial iron-sulfur cluster assembly to facilitate mitochondrial respiration and function,which is required for ISCA1.Moreover,iTBS rescues cognitive decline and attenuates AD-type pathologies in APP/PS1 mice.The present study uncovers a novel mechanism by which iTBS modulates mitochondrial respiration and function via ISCA1-mediated iron-sulfur cluster assembly to alleviate cognitive impairments and pathologies in AD.We provide the mechanistic target of iTBS that warrants its therapeutic potential for AD patients.

Neuroprotective effects of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation on Alzheimer's disease: Undetermined therapeutic protocols and mechanisms

Alzheimer's disease(AD)is a prevalent neurodegenerative disorder characterized by gradual deterioration of cognitive functions,for which an effective treatment is currently unavailable.Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation(rTMS),a well-established noninvasive brain stimulation method,is utilized in clinical settings to address various neuropsychiatric conditions,such as depression,neuropathic pain,and poststroke dys-function.Increasing evidence suggests that rTMs may enhance cognitive abilities in individuals with AD.However,its optimal therapeutic protocols and precise mechanisms are currently unknown,impeding its clinical implementation.In the present review,we aimed to summarize and discuss the efficacy-related parameters in rTMs treatment,encompassing stimulus frequency,stimulus pattern,stimulus intensity,and the configuration of the stimulus coil.Furthermore,we reviewed promising rTMS therapeutic protocols involving various combinations of these factors,that were examined in clinical studies.Based on our analysis,we propose that a multisite high-frequency rTMS(HF-rTMS)regimen has value in AD therapy,and that promising single-site protocols,such as HF-rTMS,applied over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex,precuneus,or cerebellum are required to be validated in larger clinical studies.Lastly,we provide a comprehensive review of the potential mechanisms underlying the neuroprotective effects of rTMS on cognition in AD in terms of brain network modulation as well as cellular and molecular reactions.In conclusion,the interaction of diverse mechanisms may be responsible for the total therapeutic effect of rTMS on AD.This review provides theoretical and practical evidence for the future clinical application and scientific research of rTMS in AD.

Constructing core@shell structured photothermal nanosphere with thin carbon layer confined Co-Mn bimetals for pollutant degradation and solar interfacial water evaporation

Photothermal material applied in environmental governance has attracted growing attention.By combining the Stober method and dopamine-triggered coating strategy,Co-Mn precursor was in situ incorporated into the poly dopamine（PDA） layer over the surface of silica cores.Afterwards,a unique photothermal nanosphere with SiO2core and thin carbon layer and dual Co-Mn oxides shell was allowed to form by sequential heat treatment in the inert atmosphere（SiO2@CoMn/C）.The bimetallic fraction of Co/Mn in the carbon layer and post-treatment calcination temperature was comprehensively tuned to optimize the peroxymonosulfate（PMS） activation performance of the catalyst.The state of bimetallic species was studied including their physical distribution,chemical valence,and interplay by various characterizations.Impressively,Co oxides appear as dominant monodispersed nanoparticles（～ 10 nm）,while Mn with cluster-like morphology is observed to uniformly distribute over thin-layer carbon and adhered to the surface of SiO2nanospheres（～ 250 nm）.The calcined temperature could tune the oxidized state of Co species,leading to the optimization of the catalytic performance of introduced dual metal species.As a result,this obtained optimal catalyst integrated the advantages of exposed bimetallic CoMn species and N-doped thin carbon to deliver excellent catalytic PMS activation performance and photothermal synergetic catalytic mineralization ability for diversiform pollutants.Further reactions condition controls and anion interference studies were conducted to identify the adaptability of the optimal catalyst.Moreover,the application of solar-driven interfacial water evaporation using optimal SiO2@Co3Mn1/C-600 catalyst was explored,showing a high water evaporation rate of 1.48 kg·m-2·h-1and an efficiency of 95.2%,further revealing a comprehensive governance functionality of obtained material in the complex pollution condition.

Evolution of interfacial heat transfer,contact behavior and microstructure during sub-rapid solidification of molten steel with different hydrogen contents

Typical Q235 low-carbon steel samples with different hydrogen contents(0.0004,0.0008,and 0.0013 wt.%)were prepared by adjusting the environment humidity and moisture.The effects of hydrogen on interfacial heat transfer,contact behavior,and microstructure evolution were investigated using a novel droplet solidification technique.The results revealed that when the hydrogen content increases from 0.0004 to 0.0013 wt.%,the maximum heat flux between the molten steel and cooling substrate decreases from 8.01 to 6.19 MW/m^(2),and the total heat removed in the initial 2 s reduces from 10.30 to 8.27 MJ/m^(2).Moreover,the final contact angle between the molten steel and substrate increases from 103.741°to 113.697°,and the number of pores on the droplet bottom surface increases significantly from 21 to 210 with the increase in hydrogen.The surface roughness of the droplet bottom surface increases from 20.902 to 49.181 pm.In addition,the average grain size of the droplet increases from 14.778 to 33.548 pm with the increase in the hydrogen content.The interfacial contact condition becomes worse due to the escape of hydrogen from the steel matrix during the cooling process,which leads to the reduction in the interfacial heat transfer and the increase in the grain size.

Dark Matter Search in Dwarf Irregular Galaxies with Ten Years of Data from the Ice Cube Neutrino Observatory

Dwarf irregular galaxies(dIrrs),as rotationally supported systems,have more reliable J-factor measurements than dwarf spheroidal galaxies and have received attention as targets for dark matter detection in recent years.In this paper,we use 10 yr of IceCube muon-track data and an unbinned maximum-likelihood-ratio method to search for neutrino signals beyond the background from the directions of seven dIrrs,aiming to detect neutrinos produced by heavy annihilation dark matter.We do not detect any significant signal.Based on such null results,we calculate the upper limits on the velocity-averaged annihilation cross section for 1 TeV–10 PeV dark matter.Our limits,although weaker than the strictest constraints in the literature in this mass range,are also a good complement to the existing results considering the more reliable J-factor measurements of dIrrs.

Activation of Dopamine D2 Receptors Alleviates Neuronal Hyperexcitability in the Lateral Entorhinal Cortex via Inhibition of HCN Current in a Rat Model of Chronic Inflammatory Pain

Functional changes in synaptic transmission from the lateral entorhinal cortex to the dentate gyrus(LEC-DG)are considered responsible for the chronification of pain.However,the underlying alterations in fan cells,which are the predominant neurons in the LEC that project to the DG,remain elusive.Here,we investigated possible mechanisms using a rat model of complete Freund’s adjuvant(CFA)-induced inflammatory pain.We found a substantial increase in hyperpolarization-activated/cyclic nucleotide-gated currents(Ih),which led to the hyperexcitability of LEC fan cells of CFA slices.This phenomenon was attenuated in CFA slices by activating dopamine D2,but not D1,receptors.Chemogenetic activation of the ventral tegmental area-LEC projection had a D2 receptor-dependent analgesic effect.Intra-LEC microinjection of a D2 receptor agonist also suppressed CFA-induced behavioral hypersensitivity,and this effect was attenuated by pre-activation of the Ih.Our findings suggest that down-regulating the excitability of LEC fan cells through activation of the dopamine D2 receptor may be a strategy for treating chronic inflammatory pain.

The investigation of converged twisted beams with a helical phase structure has a remarkable impact on both fundamental physics and practical applications.Geometric metasurfaces consisting of individually orientated metal/dielectric meta-atoms provide an ultracompact platform for generating converged vortices.However,it is still challenging to simultaneously focus left-handed and right-handed circularly polarized incident beams with pure geometric phase modulation,which hinders the independent operation on topological charges between these two helical components.Here we propose and experimentally demonstrate an approach to design terahertz geometric metasurfaces that can generate helicity-independent converged vortices with homogeneous polarization states by the superposition of two orthogonal helical vortices with identical topological charges.Furthermore,the multiplexing of polarization-rotatable multiple vortices in multiple dimensions,i.e.,in both longitudinal and transverse directions,and a vortex with an extended focal depth is confirmed by embedding polarization modulation into the geometric metasurfaces.The demonstrated approach provides a new way to simultaneously manipulate orthogonal helical components and expand the design dimension,enabling new applications of geometric metasurface devices in polarization optics,twisted-beam related image and edge detection,high capacity optical communication,and quantum information processing,to name a few.

中华民族共同体的形成,离不开各民族长期的交往交流交融实践。村落共同体作为中华民族共同体的有机组成,包含着一套既具象又抽象的空间生产逻辑。华丰坪村地处“三江并流”区域腹地,汉藏共居,随元明清时期边疆治理制度及滇藏茶马古道发展而逐渐形成。本文通过梳理该村从“徐加贡”“叙昌紫塘”“叙农巴”“换夫坪村”“华丰坪村”到“华丰坪社”的地名演进,探讨了汉族迁入后与当地藏族的互动关系,村里同一庙祠中汉族“五庙”与藏族“格萨尔拉康”的有机联结,呈现出汉藏文化交融的村落空间、信仰空间、记忆空间,形象阐释了村落共同体“合之又合”的空间生产逻辑及其“和合共生”的动力机制,为探索中华民族共同体的和融路径提供一个具体的范例。

Diacylglycerol(DAG)-based edible oils have attracted increasing research interest owing to their healthpromoting properties.Recent animal and human studies showed that an increased 1,2-DAG content in the liver and skeletal muscle may cause insulin resistance.However,earlier studies using animal models or humans reported that dietary DAGs with a 1,2-DAGs to 1,3-D AGs ratio of approximately 3:7 could improve insulin sensitivity in type 2 diabetic patients.This conflict raises the question of whether there is a link between the ingested DAGs and endogenous DAGs during their metabolism.To make a contribution to this field,this review provides an overview of the metabolic pathways of ingested DAGs and biological roles of DAGs(ingested and endogenous)in the change of insulin sensitivity.Accordingly,strategies for further investigations on the metabolism of DAGs are proposed.
