PROPULSIVE PERFORMANCE AND VORTEX SHEDDING OF A FOIL IN FLAPPING MOTION

The propulsive performance and vortex shedding of oscillating foil, whichmimics biological locomotion, were numerically investigated. The objectives of this study were todeal with unsteady force, in particular thrust force, exerted on the foil in pitching and plungingmotions, and to explore the relation of the propulsive performance with vortex structures near thefoil and vortex shedding in the near wake. The two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokesequations in the vorticity and stream-function formulation were solved by fourth-order essentiallycompact finite difference schemes for the space derivatives and a fourth-order Runge-Kutta schemefor the time advancement. To reveal the mechanism of the propulsive performance, the unsteady forceand the shedding of the trailing- and leading-edge vortices of the foil were analyzed. The effectsof some typical factors, such as the frequency and amplitude of the oscillation, the phasedifference between the pitching and plunging motions, and the thickness ratio of the foil, on thevortex shedding and unsteady force were discussed.

The objective of this study is to get into physical insights to the unsteady force and the relevant mechanisms in forward flight of insects. Unsteady force in the forward flight was studied, based on a virtual model problem of a foil with oscillating translation and rotation in a uniform flow, by solving the two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with a finite element method. The effects of typical parameters, including the advance ratio, the inclined angle of stroke plane, the stroke amplitude, and the amplitude of pitching angle of attack, on the forces and the flow structures were analyzed.

Flutter of Finite-Span Flexible Plates in Uniform Flow

The flutter instability and response of finite-span flexible plates in uniform flow are investigated experimentally. The effects of the plate aspect ratio on its dynamic responses are mainly analyzed. A hysteretic phenomenon is observed and can be described such that the plate flutters spontaneously as the flow velocity is greater than a critical value UC and the plate returns to its stable state as the flow velocity is slowly decreased to another critical one UD. We find that the aspect ratio has a greater effect on UC than on UD. The flutter frequency decreases and the amplitude increases with the increase in the flow velocity. When the flutter instability of the plate occurs, three typical flutter modes are identified and are associated with the aspect ratio and the flow velocity.

The Circular Electron Positron Collider(CEPC)is a large scientific project initiated and hosted by China,fostered through extensive collaboration with international *** complex comprises four accelerators:a 3. GeV Linac,a 1.1 GeV Damping Ring,a Booster capable of achieving energies up to 180 GeV,and a Collider operating at varying energy modes(Z,W,H,and tt).The Linac and Damping Ring are situated on the surface,while the subterranean Booster and Collider are housed in a 100 km circumference underground tunnel,strategically accommodating future expansion with provisions for a potential Super Proton Proton Collider(SPPC).The CEPC primarily serves as a Higgs *** its baseline design with synchrotron radiation(SR)power of 3. The solar X-ray and Extreme Ultraviolet Imager(X-EUVI),developed by the Changchun Institute of Optics,Fine mechanics and Physics,Chinese Academy of sciences(CIOMP),is the first space-based solar X-ray and Extreme ultraviolet(EUV)imager of China loaded on the Feng{2.-3.(FY-3.)satellite supported by the China Meteorological Administration(CMA)for solar *** started work on July 11,2.2.,X-EUVI has obtained many solar *** instrument employs an innovative dual-band design to monitor a much larger temperature range on the Sun,which covers 0.6-8.0 nm in the X-ray region with six channels and 19.5 nm in the EUV region.X-EUVI has a field of view of 42.,an angular resolution of 2.5″per pixel in the EUV band and an angular resolution of 4.1″per pixel in the X-ray *** instrument also includes an X-ray and EUV irradiance sensor(X-EUVS)with the same bands as its imaging optics,which measures the solar irradiance and regularly calibrates the solar *** radiometric calibration of X-EUVS on the ground has been completed,with a calibration accuracy of 12..X-EUVI is loaded on the FY-3. satellite and rotates relative to the Sun at a uniform ***-field calibration is conducted by utilizing successive rotation solar *** agreement between preliminarily processed X-EUVI images and SDO/AIA and Hinode/XRT images indicates that X-EUVI and the data processing algorithm operate properly and that the data from X-EUVI can be applied to the space weather forecast system of CMA and scientific investigations on solar activity.

We investigate high time resolution data obtained by the Gravitational wave high-energy Electromagnetic Counterpart All-sky Monitor(GECAM)during the flare event on 2.2. April 2. at 01:52.*** subpeaks with durations of 4-6 s have been detected in the hard X-ray precursor phase,and the key feature is that they appear in pairs and seem like double-peak *** subpeaks are rarely observed in hard X-ray band and confirmed by the microwave obtained by Nobeyama Radio Polarimeters(NoRP)and Radio Solar Telescope Network(RSTN).While an exponential function can describe the continuum component of the time profile from the precursor to part of the impulsive *** periods of quasi-periodic pulsations(QPPs)are detected to be about 7.3.and 12.8 s for the precursor and impulsive phase,respectively,with at least 95%confidence *** paired QPPs are assumed to be double-peak QPPs and then the scenario of current loop coalescence model is found to be in good agreement with our *** precursor phase can be interpreted as the oscillating coalescence of two islands,while the impulsive phase can be interpreted as more islands to coalesce one by one to form larger islands.
