Resilience-oriented Transmission Expansion Planning with Optimal Transmission Switching Under Typhoon Weather

This paper presents resilience-oriented transmission expansion planning(RTEP)with optimal transmission switching(OTS)model under typhoon weather.The proposed model carefully considers the uncertainty of component vulnerability by constructing a typhoon-related box uncertainty set where component failure rate varies within a range closely related with typhoon intensity.Accordingly,a min-max-min model is developed to enhance transmission network resilience,where the upper level minimizes transmission lines investment,the middle level searches for the probability distribution of failure status leading to max worst-case expected load-shedding(WCEL)under typhoon,and the lower level optimizes WCEL by economic dispatch(ED)and OTS.A nested decomposition algorithm based on benders decomposition is developed to solve the model.Case studies of modified IEEE 30-bus and 261-bus system of a Chinese region illustrate that:a)the proposed RTEP method can enhance resilience of transmission network with less investment than widely used RTEP method based on attacker and defender(DAD)model,b)the influence of OTS on RTEP is closely related with contingency severity and system scale and c)the RTEP model can be efficiently solved even in a large-scale system.

Transition-metal oxyhydroxides are attractive catalysts for oxygen evolution reactions(OERs).Further studies for developing transition-metal oxyhydroxide catalysts and understanding their catalytic mechanisms will benefit their quick transition to the next catalysts.Herein,Mo-doped CoOOH was designed as a high-performance model electrocatalyst with durability for 20 h at 10 mAcm−2.Additionally,it had an overpotential of 260 mV(glassy carbon)or 215 mV(nickel foam),which was 78 mV lower than that of IrO_(2)(338 mV).In situ,Raman spectroscopy revealed the transformation process of CoOOH.Calculations using the density functional theory showed that during OER,doped Mo increased the spin-up density of states and shrank the spin-down bandgap of the 3d orbits in the reconstructed CoOOH under the electrochemical activation process,which simultaneously optimized the adsorption and electron conduction of oxygen-related intermediates on Co sites and lowered the OER overpotentials.Our research provides new insights into the methodical planning of the creation of transition-metal oxyhydroxide OER catalysts.

BACKGROUND In this study,we retrospectively analysed macrophage infiltration and podocyte injury in three patients with diffuse proliferative lupus nephritis(LN)who un-derwent repeated renal biopsy.CASE SUMMARY Clinical data of three diffuse proliferative LN patients with different pathological characteristics(case 1 was LN IV-G(A),case 2 was LN IV-G(A)+V,and case 3 was LN IV-G(A)+thrombotic microangiopathy)were reviewed.All patients underwent repeated renal biopsies 6 mo later,and renal biopsy specimens were studied.Macrophage infiltration was assessed by CD68 expression detected by immunohistochemical staining,and an immunofluorescence assay was used to detect podocin expression to assess podocyte damage.After treatment,Case 1 changed to LN III-(A),Case 2 remained as type V LN lesions,and Case 3,which changed to LN IV-S(A),had the worst prognosis.We observed reduced macro-phage infiltration after therapy.However,two of the patients with active lesions after treatment still showed macrophage infiltration in the renal interstitium.Before treatment,the three patients showed discontinuous expression of podocin.Notably,the integrity of podocin was restored after treatment in Case 1.CONCLUSION It may be possible to reverse podocyte damage and decrease the infiltrating ma-crophages in LN patients through effective treatment.

Since the Fischer-Tropsch reaction was discovered by Otto Roelen in 1938,transition metal-catalyzed carbo-nylation reactions come in as one of the most important methods for preparing carbonyl-containing and carbon chain-increased compounds.As a result,the field of carbonylation research has received considerable attention over the past decades and continues to increase.With the continuous development of carbonylation and the in-depth study of the mechanism,more mechanistic details and variations have been revealed,which provide more possibilities for organic synthesis.Recently,copper catalysis has been introduced to the carbonylative functio-nalization of alkenes,thus enabling the rapid assembly of functionalized carbonyl compounds from simple starting materials.In this Account,we summarize the new findings in the Cu-catalyzed borocarbonylation of alkenes based on the generation and transformation ofα-oxy carbene intermediates.We believe that the results presented in this Account will further inspire the design of new carbonylation reactions.

SeeMore: a spatiotemporal predictive model with bidirectional distillation and level-specific meta-adaptation

Predicting future frames using historical spatiotemporal data sequences is challenging and critical, and it is receiving a lot of attention these days from academic and industrial scholars. Most spatiotemporal predictive algorithms ignore the valuable backward reasoning ability and the disparate learning complexities among different layers and hence, cannot build good long-term dependencies and spatial correlations,resulting in suboptimal solutions. To address the aforementioned issues, we propose a two-stage coarse-to-fine spatiotemporal predictive model with bidirectional distillation and level-specific meta-adaptation (See More)in this paper, which includes a bidirectional distillation network (BDN) and a level-specific meta-adapter(LMA), to gain bidirectional multilevel reasoning. In the first stage, BDN concentrates on bidirectional dynamics modeling and coarsely constructs spatial correlations of different layers, while LMA is introduced in the second fine-tuning stage to refine the multilevel spatial correlations from a meta-learning perspective.In particular, BDN mimics the forward and backward reasoning abilities of humans in a distillation manner,which aids in the development of long-term dependencies. The LMA views learning of different layers as disparate but related tasks and guides the transfer of learning experiences among these tasks through learning complexities. Thus, each layer could be closer to its solutions and could extract more informative spatial correlations. By capturing the enhanced short-term spatial correlations and long-term temporal dependencies,the proposed model could extract adequate knowledge from sequential historical observations and accurately predict future frames whose backtracking preconditions are consistent with the historical sequence. Our work is general and robust enough to be integrated into most spatiotemporal predictive models without requiring additional computation or memory cost during inference. This comprehensive review elucidates the complex interplay between gut microbiota and constipation in Parkinson’s disease(PD),a prevalent non-motor symptom contributing significantly to patients’morbidity.A marked alteration in the gut microbiota,predominantly an increase in the abundance of Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes,is observed in PD-related constipation.Conventional treatments,although safe,have failed to effectively alleviate symptoms,thereby necessitating the development of novel therapeutic strategies.Microbiological interventions such as prebiotics,probiotics,and fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT)hold therapeutic potential.While prebiotics improve bowel movements,probiotics are effective in enhancing stool consistency and alleviating abdominal discomfort.FMT shows potential for significantly alleviating constipation symptoms by restoring gut microbiota balance in patients with PD.Despite promising developments,the causal relationship between changes in gut microbiota and PD-related constipation remains elusive,highlighting the need for further research in this expanding field.

BACKGROUND Cholangiocarcinoma(CCA)is a highly malignant cancer,characterized by frequent mucin overexpression.MUC1 has been identified as a critical oncogene in the progression of CCA.However,the comprehensive understanding of how the mucin family influences CCA progression and prognosis is still incomplete.AIM To investigate the functions of mucins on the progression of CCA and to establish a risk evaluation formula for stratifying CCA patients.METHODS Single-cell RNA sequencing data from 14 CCA samples were employed for elucidating the roles of mucins,complemented by bioinformatic analyses.Subse-quent validations were conducted through spatial transcriptomics and immuno-histochemistry.The construction of a risk evaluation model utilized the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression algorithm,which was further confirmed by independent cohorts and diverse data types.RESULTS CCA tumor cells with elevated levels of MUC1 and MUC4 showed activated nucleotide metabolic pathways and increased invasiveness.MUC5AC-high cells were found to promote CCA progression through WNT signaling.MUC5B-high cells exhibited robust cellular oxidation activities,leading to resistance against antitumoral treatments.MUC13-high cells were observed to secret chemokines,recruiting and transforming macrophages into the M2-polarized state,thereby suppressing antitumor immunity.MUC16-high cells were found to promote tumor progression through interleukin-1/nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells signaling upon interaction with neutrophils.Utilizing the expression levels of these mucins,a risk factor evaluation formula for CCA was developed and validated across multiple cohorts.CCA samples with higher risk factors exhibited stronger metastatic potential,chemotherapy resistance,and poorer prognosis.CONCLUSION Our study elucidates the functional mechanisms through which mucins contribute to CCA development,and provides tools for risk stratification in CCA.

A series of emission reduction measures were conducted in Wuhan,Central China,to ensure good air quality during the 7th Military World Games(MWG)in October 2019.To better understand the implications for ozone(O_(3))pollution control strategies,we applied integrated analysis approaches based on the de-weathered statistical model,parameterization methods,chemical box model,and positive matrix factorization model.During the MWG,concentrations of O_(3),NO_x,and volatile organic compound(VOCs),OFP(O_(3)formation potential),L_(OH)(OH radical loss rate)were 83μg/m^(3),43μg/m^(3),26 ppbv,188μg/m^(3),and 3.9 s^(-1),respectively,which were 26%,18%,3%,15%,and 13%lower than pre-MWG values and 6%,39%,30%,33%,and 50%lower than post-MWG values,respectively.After removing meteorological influence,O_(3)and its precursors during the MWG decreased largely compared with post-MWG values,and only O_(3),NO_(2),and oxygenated VOCs(OVOCs)declined compared with pre-MWG values,which revealed the emission reduction measures during the MWG played an important role for O_(3)decline.For six VOCs sources,the mass contributions of biomass burning and solvents usage during the MWG decreased largely compared with pre-MWG values.O_(3)production was sensitive to VOCs and the key species were aromatics,OVOCs,and alkenes,which originated mainly from solvents usage,biomass burning,industrial-related combustion,and vehicle exhaust.Decreasing O_(3)concentration during the strict control was mainly caused by OVOCs reduction due to biomass burning control.Generally,the O_(3)abatement strategies of Wuhan should be focused on the mitigation of high-reactivity VOCs.

Microneedle patch loaded with ferritin-nanocaged doxorubicin for locally targeted drug delivery and efficient skin cancer treatment

Ferritin has emerged as a promising nanocarrier for delivering therapeutic agents to tumours.However,the limited drug loading and the off-target impacts after systemic administration remain challenges for cancer treatment with ferritin-based agents.Herein,we develop a microneedle patch loaded with ferritin-nanocaged doxorubicin(DoxFe@Fn/MN)for skin cancer treatment.Briefly,doxorubicin(Dox)is encapsulated in ferritin(Fn)using an iron core-assisted strategy,which results in a 3.4-fold increase in Dox loading compared to the direct loading method.Then,a polyvinyl alcohol-based microneedle(MN)patch is used for the transdermal delivery of DoxFe@Fn,enabling targeted tumour accumulation of DoxFe@Fn and preventing off-target impacts.The released DoxFe@Fn can bind to CD71 highly expressed on skin cancer cells,facilitating its uptake.As a result,the DoxFe@Fn/MN therapy presents a robust antitumour effect in a melanoma tumour model,showing its potential as a promising therapeutic modality for skin cancer treatment.
