Effects of sintered metal distributor on fluidization quality of the air dense medium fluidized bed

Dry coal beneficiation using an air dense medium fluidized bed (ADMFB) requires the formation of a sta- ble and uniform bed from the dense medium. Others have shown that the structure and geometric parameters of the air distributor have a significant influence on the experimentally observed fluidization quality. In this study we used a sintered metal distributor (SMD) in the ADMFB separator and study its effect on the fluidization quality. The results show that for the same open area ratio (OAR), a smaller aper- ture in the SMD will provide improved fluidization quality. If aperture size is held constant bigger open area ratios result in improved fluidization quality. And, the fluidization quality also improves when the pressure drop across the SMD increases. A model relating distributor pressure drop and the geometric parameters of the SMD is also proposed.

Coal accounts for about 70% of the primary energy sources in China. The environmental pollution and resources waste involved with coal processing and utilization are serious. It is therefore urgent to develop highly-efficient coal resources utilization theory and methods with low-carbon discharge. Based on our long-term basic research and technology development, the progress in beneficiation, cleaning, and trans- formation of coal, which includes dense phase fluidized bed dry beneficiation, deep screening of wet fine coal, micro-bubble flotation column separation, molecular coal chemistry, and transformation and sepa- ration of coal and its derivatives into value-added chemicals under mild conditions, is discussed.

Brown coals become increasingly important in energy consumption with the deposits of other energy resources decreasing every *** direct utilization of moist brown coals without drying brings many problems such as low combustion efficiency,high greenhouse gas emissions,and it is not acceptable for coal gasification or ***-drying brown coal is necessary and *** drying processes,mainly classified into evaporative and non-evaporative drying,are summarized in this paper,introducing the principles and analyzing the advantages and disadvantages.
