Adoptive therapeutic immune cells, such as chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cells and natural killer cells, have established a new generation of precision medicine based on which dramatic breakthroughs have been achieved in intractable lymphoma treatments. Currently, well-explored approaches focus on autologous cells due to their low immunogenicity, but they are highly restricted by the high costs, time consumption of processing, and the insufficiency of primary cells in some patients. Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are cell sources that can theoretically produce indefinite well-differentiated immune cells. Based on the above facts, it may be reasonable to combine the iPSC technology and the CAR design to produce a series of highly controllable and economical "live" drugs. Manufacturing hypoimmunogenic iPSCs by inactivation or over-expression at the genetic level and then arming the derived cells with CAR have emerged as a form of "off-the-shelf" strategy to eliminate tumor cells efficiently and safely in a broader range of patients. This review describes the reasonability, feasibility, superiority, and drawbacks of such approaches, summarizes the current practices and relevant research progress, and provides insights into the possible new paths for personalized cell-based therapies.

Mental health problems are common during the transition from adolescence to young adulthood.Previous studies reported that rhythmic music plus aerobic exercise can have a beneficial effect on emotional state.We examined whether the beneficial effect differed between aerobic exercise interventions with or without rhythmic music.A sample of 94 college students who either had no depressive symptoms(n=47)or minimal depressive symptoms(n=47)underwent 30-min interventions in a randomized and counterbalanced order:rest,rhythmic music,aerobic exercise and aerobic exercise plus rhythmic music.Response time and accuracy of selective attention to positive and negative images were recorded using the spatial cueing paradigm.Participants’heart rate during all conditions and perceived exertion after each condition were measured to clarify physiological and perceptual responses,respectively.The results revealed that a multimodal intervention combining aerobic exercise and rhythmic music had a significant facilitatory effect on attentional bias to positive emotional cues in minimal depressive participants(t=-2.336,p=0.024),including less perceived exertion and higher heart rate after/during the intervention process.The single-modality intervention of aerobic exercise had significant positive effects for individuals with no depressive symptoms(t=2.510,p=0.016).The multimodal intervention was more effective than the single-modality intervention for individuals with minimal depressive symptoms,but the single-modality aerobic exercise intervention was more effective for individuals with no depressive symptoms,providing new evidence for the specificity of the intervention effect for people with different degrees of depressive symptoms.

Who Is More Vulnerable?The Age-Period-Cohort Effect of Psychological Distress among Urban Residents in China

How does psychological distress evolve over time?This study utilizes cross-sectional data from the China General Social Survey from 2010 to 2017 to explore the differences in psychological distress among Chinese residents at various ages,periods,and cohorts.The dummy variable method and random effects hierarchical age-period-cohort model were employed to isolate the age,period,and cohort effects that impacted the psychological distress of Chinese urban residents.First,in terms of the age effect,the psychological distress experienced by residents tends to increase initially and then decrease with age.Middle-aged individuals,around 40 years old,often face a particularly severe form of psychological distress known as the“midlife crisis.”Additionally,middle-aged people who have larger families may experience more significant psychological distress due to increased family burdens.Second,in terms of the period effect,the psychological distress experienced by residents has been on the rise due to the continued development of society.Those who are at a disadvantage in market competition and work longer hours may be particularly vulnerable to increased psychological distress.Thirdly,the cohort effect refers to the different social behaviors and attitudes exhibited by individuals of different generations.In terms of this effect,psychological distress initially decreased and then increased among those born between 1945 and 1990.Individuals born in the 1980s and 1990s experienced higher levels of psychological distress,with internet use having a greater negative impact.Additionally,the positive effect of income on their psychological distress was reduced.The psychological distress of Chinese urban residents is affected by a variety of time-related factors,which are closely related to Chinese clan culture,market competition and social changes.The heavy family burden imposed by traditional clan culture,the different working conditions created by market competition,and the emergence of new lifestyles,such as internet use during

Heavy-duty diesel vehicles are important sources of urban nitrogen oxides(NOx)in actual applications for environmental compliance,emitting more than 80%of NOx and more than 90%of particulate matter(PM)in total vehicle emissions.The detection and control of heavy-duty diesel emissions are critical for protecting public health.Currently,vehicles on the road must be regularly tested,every six months or once a year,to filter out high-emission mobile sources at vehicle inspection stations.However,it is difficult to effectively screen high-emission vehicles in time with a long interval between annual inspections,and the fixed threshold cannot adapt to the dynamic changes of vehicle driving conditions.An on-board diagnostic device(OBD)is installed inside the vehicle and can record the vehicle’s emission data in real time.In this paper,we propose a temporal optimization long short-term memory(LSTM)and adaptive dynamic threshold approach to identify heavy-duty high-emitters by using OBD data,which can continuously track and record the emission status in real time.First,a temporal optimization LSTM emission prediction model is established to solve the attention bias discrepancy problem on time steps that is caused by the large number of OBD data streams in practice.Then,the concentration prediction error sequence is detected and distinguished from the anomalous emission contexts using flexible criteria,calculated by an adaptive dynamic threshold with changing driving conditions.Finally,a similarity metric strategy for the time series is introduced to correct some pseudo anomalous results.Experiments on three real OBD time-series emission datasets demonstrate that our method can achieve high accuracy anomalous emission identification.

Ultrasonic vibration-assisted grinding(UVAG)is an advanced hybrid process for the precision machining of difficult-to-cut materials.The resonator is a critical part of the UVAG system.Its performance considerably influences the vibration amplitude and resonant frequency.In this work,a novel perforated ultrasonic vibration platform resonator was developed for UVAG.The holes were evenly arranged at the top and side surfaces of the vibration platform to improve the vibration characteristics.A modified apparent elasticity method(AEM)was proposed to reveal the influence of holes on the vibration mode.The performance of the vibration platform was evaluated by the vibration tests and UVAG experiments of particulate-reinforced titanium matrix composites.Results indicate that the reasonable distribution of holes helps improve the resonant frequency and vibration mode.The modified AEM,the finite element method,and the vibration tests show a high degree of consistency for developing the perforated ultrasonic vibration platform with a maximum frequency error of 3%.The employment of ultrasonic vibration reduces the grinding force by 36%at most,thereby decreasing the machined surface defects,such as voids,cracks,and burnout.

The main aim of this work is to design a non-fragile sampled data control(NFSDC) scheme for the asymptotic synchronization criteria for interconnected coupled circuit systems(multi-agent systems, MASs). NFSDC is used to conduct synchronization analysis of the considered MASs in the presence of time-varying delays. By constructing suitable Lyapunov functions, sufficient conditions are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs) to ensure synchronization between the MAS leader and follower systems. Finally, two numerical examples are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme and less conservation of the proposed Lyapunov functions.

When "cut off" continuous and uniform basal plane of two-dimensional(2D)materials,edges appear at cross-sections.Such edges with unique one-dimensional(1D)structures and bound-states significantly alter materials’local chemical activities and have been extensively investigated as model platforms for investigating structure–property–performance relationships for chemistry.Many interesting phenomena have been discovered in the past decades,highlighting the importance of interactions between active species and edge atoms at the atomic level and making 1D edges as emerging catalysts with high efficiency,promising candidates for battery and electrochemical contacts.Here,this review focuses on the recent progress of edge synthesis and structural engineering methods,understanding of edge structure–activity mechanisms,and potential applications using edge sites.Challenges and prospects are also envisioned.

Extrusion-based cell deposition has become a prominent technique for expanding bioprinting applications.However,the associated print resolution in the order of nanolitre or above has been a limiting factor.The demand for improving print resolution towards the scale of a single cell has driven the development of precision nozzle extrusion,although the benefits gained remain ambiguous.Here,aided by in situ imaging,we investigated the dynamics of cell organisation through an extrusion-based microcapillary tip with picolitre precision through in-air or immersion deposition.The microcapillary extrusion setup,termed‘Picodis’,was demonstrated by generating droplets of colouring inks immersed in an immiscible medium.Next,using 3T3 fibroblast cells as an experimental model,we demonstrated the deposition of cell suspension,and pre-aggregated cell pellets.Then,the dynamic organisation of cells within the microcapillary tip was described,along with cell ejection and deposition upon exiting the tip opening.The vision-assisted approach revealed that when dispersed in a culture medium,the movements of cells were distinctive based on the flow profiles and were purely driven by laminar fluid flow within a narrow tip.The primary process limitations were cell sedimentation,aggregation and compaction,along with trapped air bubbles.The use of picolitre-level resolution microcapillary extrusion,although it provides some level of control for a small number of cells,does not necessarily offer a reliable method when a specified number of cells are required.Our study provides insights into the process limitations of high-resolution cell ink extrusion,which may be useful for optimising biofabrication processes of cell-laden constructs for biomedical research.

Metamaterials have attracted increasing attention in recent years due to their powerful abilities in manipulating electromagnetic (EM) waves. However, most previously reported metamaterials are unable to actively control full-band EM waves. In this paper, we propose a thermo-tunable broadband metamaterial (T-TBM) using paraffin-based composites (PD-Cs) with different phase transition temperatures. Active control of the T-TBM reflection loss peaks from low to high frequency is realized by manipulating the solid–liquid state of the PD-Cs at different phase transition temperatures. The absorption peak bandwidth (where the reflection loss value is less than −30 dB) can be changed, while the broad bandwidth absorption (where the reflection loss value is less than −10 dB) is satisfied by adjusting the temperature of the T-TBM. It is shown that the stagnation of the phase transition temperature of the PD-Cs in the T-TBM provides a time window for actively controlling the EM wave absorption response under different thermal conditions. The device has a broad application prospect in the fields of EM absorption, intelligent metamaterials, multifunctional structural devices, and more.
