Proteins of the complement system are known to interact with many charged *** recently characterized binding of c1q and factor H to immobilized and liposomal anionic *** H inhibited c1q binding to anionic phospholipids,suggesting a role for factor H in regulating activation of the complement classical pathway by anionic *** extend this finding,we examined interactions of c1q and factor H with lipid A,a well-characterized activator of the classical *** report that c1q and factor H both bind to immobilized lipid A,lipid A liposomes and intact Escherichia coli *** H competes with c1q for binding to these ***,increasing the factor H:c1q molar ratio in serum diminished c4b fixation,indicating that factor H diminishes classical pathway *** recombinant forms of the cterminal,globular heads of c1q A,B and c chains bound to lipid A and *** in a manner qualitatively similar to native c1q,confirming that c1q interacts with these targets via its globular head *** observations reinforce our proposal that factor H has an additional complement regulatory role of down-regulating classical pathway activation in response to certain *** is distinct from its role as an alternative pathway *** suggest that under physiological conditions,factor H may serve as a downregulator of bacterially-driven inflammatory responses,thereby finetuning and balancing the inflammatory response in infections with Gram-negative bacteria.

cR geometry studies the boundary of pseudo-convex manifolds. By concentrating on a choice of a contact form, the local geometry bears strong resemblence to conformal geometry. This paper deals with the role conformally invariant operators such as the Paneitz operator plays in the cR geometry in dimension three. While the sign of this operator is important in the embedding problem, the kernel of this operator is also closely connected with the stability of cR structures. The positivity of the cR-mass under the natural sign conditions of the Paneitz operator and the cR Yamabe operator is discussed. The cR positive mass theorem has a consequence for the existence of minimizer of the cR Yamabe problem. The pseudo-Einstein condition studied by Lee has a natural analogue in this dimension, and it is closely connected with the pluriharmonic *** author discusses the introduction of new conformally covariant operator P-prime and its associated Q-prime curvature and gives another natural way to find a canonical contact form among the class of pseudo-Einstein contact forms. Finally, an isoperimetric constant determined by the Q-prime curvature integral is discussed.

A Quantitative Analysis of Mn Segregation at Partitioned Ferrite/Austenite Interface in a Fe-c-Mn-Si Alloy

Mn segregation at austenite/ferrite interface is studied in a Fe-c-Mn-Si alloy held at 656℃. Mn is partitioned during the growth of ferrite and as a result, a Mn pile-up exists in front of interface on the matrix side. An approach to evaluate Mn segregation quantitatively is developed by combining STEM raster window scanning and simulation of the interaction of the electron beam with the sample to subtract the contribution of Mn pile-up and obtain pure Mn segregation value. The evaluated maximum Mn interfacial segregation is in the order of a half-monolayer.

characterization of face-centered cubic structure and deformation mechanisms in high energy shot peening process of Tc17

The face-centered cubic structure(fcc)and its deformation behaviors,as well as the distinctive role of fcc-Ti in nanocrystallization in Tc17 subjected to high energy shot peening(HESP),were investigated by using comprehensive high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM).The results showed that there was a stress-induced fcc-Ti in Tc17 with a lattice constant of 0.420–0.433 nm and the B-type orientation relationship between the hcp-Ti and the fcc-Ti as[2-1-10]_(hcp)//[-110]_(fcc)and(0001)_(hcp)//(111)_(fcc),which was accomplished by the gliding of Shockley partial dislocations with Burgers vector of 1/3[01-10]on the basal *** deformation twinning dominated the subsequent deformation of fcc-Ti,producing two types of{111}twins with different *** them,the I-type twin with complete structure was generated by successive gliding of Shockley partial dislocations with the same Burgers vector of 1/6[11-2].In contrast,the cooperative slip of three Shockley partials,whose sum of Burgers vectors was equal to zero,produced the II-type twin with zero net macroscopic *** then,the emission of Shockley partial with the Burgers vector of 1/6[11-2]on every three(111)fccplanes resulted in the formation of a 9R *** to the dissociation effect of lamellar fcc-Ti and the superior deformation ability of fcc structure,the occurrence of fcc-Ti effectively promoted surface nanocrystallization of Tc17.

TENSILE cREEP DEFORMATION AND DAMAGE BEHAVIOR IN A NIcKEL-BASE SUPERALLOY AT 900℃

The tensile creep deformation and damage evolution in a Ni-base superalloy at 900℃/170MPa were investigated. At the first creep stage, abnormal creep occured due to the resolution of fine particles, and the deformation initiated from grain boundary areas. It is evident that nearly all of the dislocations were in γ matrix channels in form of dislocation pairs and the dislocations were impeded at γ/γ' interfaces, thus the dislocation networks developed deformation. At the steady creep stage, impeded dislocations atγ/γ' interfaces climbed over γ' phases by diffusion-dominant mechanism. At the last creep stage, voids were formed around carbides at grain boundary which leaded to accumulated damage and caused creep rate accelerated. With the dislocation networks being broken, the voids connected and grew into micro-cracks gradually. Finally the cracks propagated along grain boundary area and resulted in failure.

GROWTH MORPHOLOGIES OF A BINARY ALLOY WITH LOW ANISOTROPY IN DIREcTIONAL SOLIDIFIcATION

Two new classes of growth morphologies, called doublons and seaweed, were simulated using a phase-field method. The evolution of doublon and seaweed morphologies was obtained in directional solidification. The influence of orientation and velocity on the growth morphology was investigated. It was indicated that doublons preferred growing with its crystallographic axis aligned with the heat flow direction. Seaweed, on the other hand, could be obtained by tilting the crystalline axis to 45°. Stable doublons could only exist in a range of velocity regime. Beyond this regime the patterns formed would be unstable. The simulation results agreed with the reported experimental results qualitatively.

A large undercooling level up to 550K （0.386Te） was achieved in eutectic Ni78.6Si21.4melt by the combination of molten-glass and cyclic superheating. A microcrystaUine structure is obtained at large undercooling. Surprisingly, the morphology of ct（Ni） phase transits from the non-faceted phaseto faceted phase at large undercooling of 390K. Based on the classical nucleation theory and transient nucleation theory, the process of microstructure evolution and competitive nucleation was analyzed, and the refinement of crystal structure is determined by the high nucleation rate under large undercooling.

In this paper,a numerical code,RFPA2D（rock failure process analysis）,was used to simulate the initiation and propagation of fractures around a pre-existing single cavity and multiple cavities in brittle *** static and dynamic loads were applied to the rock specimens to investigate the mechanism of fracture evolution around the cavities for different lateral pressure *** addition,characteristics of acoustic emission（AE） associated with fracture evolution were ***,the evolution and interaction of fractures between multiple cavities were investigated with consideration of stress redistribution and transference in compressive and tensile stress *** numerically simulated results reproduced primary tensile,remote,and shear crack fractures,which are in agreement with the experimental ***,numerical results suggested that both compressive and tensile waves could influence the propagation of tensile cracks;in particular,the reflected tensile wave accelerated the propagation of tensile cracks.

SOLIDIFIcATION MEcHANISM OF UNDERcOOLEDSINGLE PHASE ALLOYS

The solidification behavior of bulk undercooled Ni50cu50 alloy was systematically investigated. Double recalescences were discovered for the first time in a single phase Ni-cd alloy, in which there is no solid phase transition at elevated temperature. When the alloy melt was undercoolcd below the solidus temperature, the effect of nonequilibrium solidification could make the solid with the norminal composition c0 of the alloy nucleate and grow till tempemture approached To (the temperuture at which the free enengies of solid and liquid with c0 are equal). Following it, the nucleation and growth of the solid with more high melting point component were required, so the secondary recalescence took place. The concentration distribution in crystals was also analysed.

Polyaniline doped with rare earth chloride was synthesized in organic solvent and identified by elemental analysis and infrared spectroscopy. The experimental results show that there exists both doping and complexation at the same time in the resulting product. When pH4. Moreover, polyaniline doped with rare earth chloride exhibits better thermal stability than that doped with hydrochloric acid.
