Accounting greenhouse gas emissions of food consumption between urban and rural residents in China: a whole production perspective

Food consumption is necessary for human survival.On a global scale,the greenhouse gas(GHG)emission related to food consumption accounts for 19%–29%of the total GHG emission.China has the largest population in the world,which is experiencing a rapid development.Under the background of urbanization and the adjustment of the diet structure of Chinese residents,it is critical to mitigate the overall GHG emission caused by food consumption.This study aims to employ a single-region input-output(SRIO)model and a multi-regional input-output(MRIO)model to measure GHG emission generated from food consumption in China and compare the contributions of different industrial sectors,uncovering the differences between urban and rural residents and among different provinces(autonomous regions/municipalities),as well as identifying the driving forces of GHG emission from food consumption at a national level.The results indicate that the total GHG emission generated from food consumption in China tripled from 157 Mt CO_(2)e in 2002 to 452 Mt CO_(2)e in 2017.The fastest growing GHG emission is from the consumption of other processed food and meat products.Although GHG emissions from both urban and rural residents increased,the gap between them is increasing.Agriculture,processing and manufacture of food,manufacture of chemical and transportation,storage and post services sectors are key sectors inducing food consumption related GHG emissions.From a regional perspective,the top five emission provinces(autonomous regions/municipalities)include Shandong,Hubei,Guangdong,Zhejiang,and Jiangsu.Based on such results,policy recommendations are proposed to mitigate the overall GHG emission from food consumption.

Cluster synchronization analysis of multi-order fractional neural networks

The cluster synchronization of multi-order fractional neural networks with time-varying delays was investigated．First，by utilizing the vector Lyapunov function methods for multi-order time-varying delayed systems，sufficient criteria were deduced for realizing the cluster synchronization of multi-order fractional neural networks under an efficient pinning control．Then，sufficient criteria for realizing the cluster synchronization of identical order fractional neural networks without time-delay were explored．Finally，the effectiveness of the conclusions was verified through numerical simulation．Results show that this study is the extension of existing works，which has a certain theoretical guiding significance for practical applications. © 2023 Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Recovery of lithium using H_(4)Mn_(3.5)Ti_(1.5)O_(12)/reduced graphene oxide/polyacrylamide composite hydrogel from brine by Ads-ESIX process

Powdery Li^(+)-imprinted manganese oxides adsorbent was widely used to the recovery of Li^(+),but there are some difficulties,such as poor stability in acid solution,inconvenience of operation and separation.In this work,a useful hydrogel composite based H_(4)Mn_(3.5)Ti_(1.5)O_(12)/reduced graphene oxide/polyacrylamide(HMTO-rGO/PAM)was fabricated by thermal initiation method with promising stable,conductive and selective properties.The resulting materials were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscope,infrared absorption spectrum,X-ray diffraction,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electrochemical techniques.The recovery of Li^(+)was investigated using HMTO-rGO/PAM from brine by a separated two-stage sorption statically and electrically switched ion exchange desorption process.The adsorption capacity of 51.5 mg·g^(-1)could be achieved with an initial Li^(+)concentration of 200 mg·L^(-1)in pH 10,at 45℃ for 12 h.Li^(+)ions could be quickly desorbed by cyclic voltammetry(CV)in pH 3,0.1 mol·L^(-1)HCl/NH;Cl accompanying the exchange of Li^(+)and H+(NH;)and the transfer of LMTO-rGO/PAM to HMTO-rGO/PAM.

Experimental study of face passive failure features of a shallow shield tunnel in coastal backfill sand

Face passive failure can severely damage existing structures and underground utilities during shallow shield tunneling, especially in coastal backfill sand. In this work, a series of laboratory model tests were developed and conducted to investigate such failure, for tunnels located at burial depth ratios for which C/D = 0.5, 0.8, 1, and 1.3. Support pressures, the evolution of failure processes, the failure modes, and the distribution of velocity fields were examined through model tests and numerical analyses. The support pressure in the tests first rose rapidly to the elastic limit and then gradually increased to the maximum value in all cases. The maximum support pressure decreased slightly in cases where C/D = 0.8, 1, and 1.3, but the rebound was insignificant where C/D = 0.5. In addition, the configuration of the failure mode with C/D = 0.5 showed a wedge-shaped arch, which was determined by the outcropping shear failure. The configuration of failure modes was composed of an arch and the inverted trapezoid when C/D = 0.8, 1, and 1.3, in which the mode was divided into lower and upper failure zones.

Objective array design for three-dimensional temperature and salinity observation:Application to the South China Sea

In this study,a moored array optimization tool(MAOT)was developed and applied to the South China Sea(SCS)with a focus on three-dimensional temperature and salinity observations.Application of the MAOT involves two steps:(1)deriving a set of optimal arrays that are independent of each other for different variables at different depths based on an empirical orthogonal function method,and(2)consolidating these arrays using a K-center clustering algorithm.Compared with the assumed initial array consisting of 17 mooring sites located on a 3°×3°horizontal grid,the consolidated array improved the observing ability for three-dimensional temperature and salinity in the SCS with optimization efficiencies of 19.03%and 21.38%,respectively.Experiments with an increased number of moored sites showed that the most cost-effective option is a total of 20 moorings,improving the observing ability with optimization efficiencies up to 26.54%for temperature and 27.25%for salinity.The design of an objective array relies on the ocean phenomenon of interest and its spatial and temporal scales.In this study,we focus on basin-scale variations in temperature and salinity in the SCS,and thus our consolidated array may not well resolve mesoscale processes.The MAOT can be extended to include other variables and multi-scale variability and can be applied to other regions.

Cryptography on twisted Edwards curves over local fields

Twisted Edwards curves over finite fields have attracted great interest for their efficient and unified addition formula. In this paper, we consider twisted Edwards curves over local fields and introduce a cryptosystem based on quotient groups of twisted Edwards curves over local fields. From the study of formal groups of twisted Edwards curves and twisted Edwards curves over local fields, we give the choice of cryptographic groups.An element in these groups can be uniformly represented by two n digit p-adic numbers, whereas an element in the elliptic curves in Weierstrass form over local fields is represented by a 3n-2 digit p-adic number and a4n-3 digit p-adic number. In the cryptography on elliptic curves in Weierstrass form over local fields, five cases for different input point pairs in computing points addition have to be considered and sometimes points have to be lifted. In the cryptography on twisted Edwards curves over local fields, the addition formula is simple,unified, and complete, which is efficient, does not need lifting points, and is against the side channel analysis.Finally, a speedy point multiplication algorithm and some concrete instances are given.

Experimental Investigation of Microbial Fouling and Heat Mass Transfer Characteristics on Ni-P Modified Surface of Heat Exchanger

Fouling deposition problem on heat transfer surface is widely distributed in the field of energy and chemical industry,and microbial fouling is a common fouling type in heat exchanger.In this article,the surface modification was used for inhibiting or mitigating the microbial fouling deposition on heat exchange surface.Firstly,the experimental system for real-time monitoring the fouling deposition process was built,and then the Ni-P modified surface was prepared.Further,the slime forming bacteria(SFB)microbial fouling characteristics and corresponding influencing factors on Ni-P modified surface were investigated experimentally.The results indicated that Ni-P modified surface had an excellent fouling inhibition property.Comparing with carbon steel,Ni-P modified surface reduced the fouling heat resistance by 80%.Accordingly,the influencing factors of microbial fouling deposition including temperature,flow rate and microbial concentrations were discussed.With cooling water temperature increasing given in the experiment arrangement,the microbial fouling resistance was increased first and then decreased,while with bacteria concentration and flow rate increasing,the fouling resistance was increased and decreased separately.The work can provide experimental reference for the fouling inhibition surface development and fouling inhibition mechanism study.

High-performance lithium-ion batteries based on polymer/graphene hybrid cathode material

Organic and carbon-based lithium-ion batteries possess abundant resources,nontoxicity,environmental friendliness,and high performance,and they have been widely studied in the past decades.However,it remains a challenge to construct such batteries with high capacity,high cycling stability,and high conductivity simultaneously.Here,we elaborately design and integrate organic polymer(p-FcPZ) with graphene network to create a hybrid material(p-FcPZ@G) for high-performance lithium-ion batteries(LIBs).The bi-polar polymer p-FcPZ containing multiple redox-active sites endows p-FcPZ@G with both remarkable cycling stability and high capacity.The porous conductive graphene network with a large surface area facilitates rapid ions/electrons transportation,resulting in superior rate performance.Therefore,the half-cell based on p-FcPZ@G cathode exhibits simultaneously high capacity(~250 mA h g^(-1) at 50 mA g^(-1)),excellent cycling stability(retention of 99.999% per cycle for 10,000 cycles at 2,000 mA g^(-1)) and superior rate performance.Additionally,the graphene-based full cell assembled with p-FcPZ@G cathode and graphene anode also demonstrates comprehensively high electrochemical performance.

Multistable mechanical metamaterials are a type of mechanical metamaterials with special features,such as reusability,energy storage and absorption capabilities,rapid deformation,and amplified output forces.These metamaterials are usually realized by series and/or parallel of bistable units.They can exhibit multiple stable configurations under external loads and can be switched reversely among each other,thereby realizing the reusability of mechanical metamaterials and offering broad engineering applications.This paper reviews the latest research progress in the design strategy,manufacture and application of multistable mechanical metamaterials.We divide bistable structures into three categories based on their basic element types and provide the criterion of their bistability.Various manufacturing techniques to fabricate these multistable mechanical metamaterials are introduced,including mold casting,cutting,folding and three-dimensional/4D printing.Furthermore,the prospects of multistable mechanical metamaterials for applications in soft driving,mechanical computing,energy absorption and wave controlling are discussed.Finally,this paper highlights possible challenges and opportunities for future investigations.The review aims to provide insights into the research and development of multistable mechanical metamaterials.

Research progress of protein haze in white wines

Protein haze was one of the main causes of the instability of white wines. Proteins that caused haze or precipitation in white wines mainly came from grape fruits, and their compositions and contents were affected by many factors such as fruit diseases, harvesting methods and water stress. Unstable wine proteins were usually pathogenesis-related(PR)proteins of grapes, mainly chitinases and thaumatin-like proteins(TLPs), which had lower isoelectric point(pI)and smaller molecular weight, and were highly resistant to the low pH values of wines and the protease hydrolysis during fermentation. At present, the technology of protein stabilization and clarification in white wines mainly included bentonite fining, heat treatment, enzymatic hydrolysis, polysaccharide treatment and ultrafiltration methods. Among them, the most commonly used method was bentonite treatment. In this paper, the research progresses of the origin, mechanism and influencing factors of the unstable proteins in white wines were summarized, and the applications, advantages and disadvantages of various clarification techniques were also concluded, in order to provide some support for the theoretical and technological research of the protein stability in white wines in the future.
