Efficient photocatalytic NADH regeneration with Rh-loaded Z-scheme mediator-free system

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide(NADH)regeneration is necessary for the sustainable application of enzymatic industry.The Rh-based complex[Cp^(*)Rh(bpy)(H)]+has been widely used as an important mediator in NADH regeneration systems,but it is limited by complexity and high cost.Here,a Z-scheme was constructed by loading Rh onto carbon nitride nanosheets/carbon nitride quantum dots(CN-CNQD).The resultant catalyst achieved a high yield of NADH in a mediator-free(M-free)system of 0.283 mmol L^(−1) g^(−1) min^(−1),which is 5.29 times that of pure CN.ADH enzyme introduction experiments confirmed that the enzyme active product 1,4-NADH could reach 34.21%selectivity in the M-free system.Mechanism research revealed that the heterojunction between CNs and CNQDs improved the NADH regeneration activity in the traditional M-involved system,while Rh loading was proved to optimize the yield and selectivity of 1,4-NADH in M-free system.The immobilized Rh shows more competitiveness than[Cp^(*)Rh(bpy)(H)]^(+).This study contributes to the construction of an M-free system for further application in greener,lower-cost enzymatic processes.

Nanofluidic memristor based on the elastic deformation of nanopores with nanoparticle adsorption

The memristor is the building block of neuromorphic computing. We report a new type of nanofluidic memristor based on the principle of elastic strain on polymer nanopores. With nanoparticles absorbed at the wall of a single conical polymer nanopore, we find a pinched hysteresis of the current within a scanning frequency range of 0.01–0.1 Hz, switching to a diode below 0.01 Hz and a resistor above 0.1 Hz. We attribute the current hysteresis to the elastic strain at the tip side of the nanopore, caused by electrical force on the particles adsorbed at the inner wall surface. Our simulation and analytical equations match well with experimental results, with a phase diagram for predicting the system transitions. We demonstrate the plasticity of our nanofluidic memristor to be similar to a biological synapse. Our findings pave a new way for ionic neuromorphic computing using nanofluidic memristors.

With the increasing production of petroleum-based plastics,the problem of environmental pollution caused by plastics has aroused widespread concern.Microplastics,which are formed by the fragmentation of macro plastics,are bio-accumulate easily due to their small size and slow degradation under natural conditions.The aging of plastics is an inevitable process for their degradation and enhancement of adsorption performance toward pollutants due to a series of changes in their physiochemical properties,which significantly increase the toxicity and harm of plastics.Therefore,studies should focus on the aging process of microplastics through reasonable characterization methods to promote the aging process and prevent white pollution.This review summarizes the latest progress in natural aging process and characterization methods to determine the natural aging mechanism of microplastics.In addition,recent advances in the artificial aging of microplastic pollutants are reviewed.The degradation status and by-products of biodegradable plastics in the natural environment and whether they can truly solve the plastic pollution problem have been discussed.Findings from the literature pointed out that the aging process of microplastics lacks professional and exclusive characterization methods,which include qualitative and quantitative analyses.To lessen the toxicity of microplastics in the environment,future research directions have been suggested based on existing problems in the current research.This review could provide a systematic reference for in-depth exploration of the aging mechanism and behavior of microplastics in natural and artificial systems.

A novel AgNPs/MOF substrate-based SERS sensor for high-sensitive on-site detection of wheat gluten

Gluten,known as the major allergen in wheat,has gained increasing concerns in industrialized countries,resulting in an urgent need for accurate,high-sensitive,and on-site detection of wheat gluten in complex food systems.Herein,we proposed a silver nanoparticles(AgNPs)/metal-organic framework(MOF)substrate-based surface-enhanced Raman scattering(SERS)sensor for the high-sensitive on-site detection of wheat gluten.The detection occurred on the newly in-situ synthesized AgNPs/MOF-modified SERS substrate,providing an enhancement factor(EF)of 1.89×10^(5).Benefitting from the signal amplification function of AgNPs/MOF and the superiority of SERS,this sensor represented high sensitivity performance and a wide detection range from 1×10^(-15)mol/L to 2×10^(-6)mol/L with a detection limit of 1.16×10^(-16)mol/L,which allowed monitoring the trace of wheat gluten in complex food system without matrix interference.This reliable sandwich SERS sensor may provide a promising platform for high-sensitive,accurate,and on-site detection of allergens in the field of food safety.

An Integrated Control Framework for Torque Vectoring and Active Suspension System

Four-wheel independently driven electric vehicles(FWID-EV)endow a flexible and scalable control framework to improve vehicle performance.This paper integrates the torque vectoring and active suspension system(ASS)to enhance the vehicle’s longitudinal and vertical motion control performance.While the nonlinear characteristic of the tire model leads to a relatively heavier computational burden.To facilitate the controller design and ease the load,a half-vehicle dynamics system is built and simplified to the linear-time-varying(LTV)model.Then a model predictive controller is developed by formulating the objective function by comprehensively considering the safety,energy-saving and comfort requirements.The in-wheel motor efficiency and the power loss of tire slip are treated as optimization indices in this work to reduce energy consumption.Finally,the effectiveness of the proposed controller is verified through the rapid-control-prototype(RCP)test.The results demonstrate the enhancement of the energy-saving as well as comfort on the basis of vehicle stability.

Neutral beam injection(NBI)systems based on negative hydrogen ion sources-rather than the positive ion sources that have typically been used to date-will be used in the future magnetically confined nuclear fusion experiments to heat the plasma.The collisions between the fast negative ions and neutral background gas result in a significant number of high-energy positive ions being produced in the acceleration area,and for the high-power long-pulse operation of NBI systems,this acceleration of positive ions back to the ion source creates heat load and material sputtering on the source backplate.This difficulty cannot be ignored,with the neutral gas density in the acceleration region having a significant impact on the flux density of the backstreaming positive ions.In the work reported here,the pressure gradient in the acceleration region was estimated using an ionization gauge and a straightforward 1D computation,and it was found that once gas traveled through the acceleration region,the pressure dropped by nearly one order of magnitude,with the largest pressure drop occurring at the plasma grid.The computation also revealed that the pressure drop in the grid gaps was substantially smaller than that in the grid apertures.

Adsorptive removal of PPCPs from aqueous solution using carbon-based composites:A review

Far-ranging and improper uses of pharmaceuticals and personal care products(PPCPs)over the last few decades have led to severe water contamination that imposes serious effects on human beings and the ecological system.Therefore,there is an increasing demand for a highly-efficient and environmentally friendly technology for the removal of PPCPs from aqueous solutions.Adsorption technology is an appropriate technology to solve this issue.Carbon-based composites,ranging from modified activated carbon to functionalized biochar,show great potential for this purpose.This review hence elaborates on the environmental occurrences and risks of PPCPs and summarizes the recent progress in removing PPCPs from water using carbon-based adsorbents.The pore structure,relatively large specific surface area(SSA),abundant surface functional groups,highly aromatic structures and the extra excellent characteristics of the cooperative materials contribute to their outstanding adsorption performance.Furthermore,the biochar-clay material is cost effective and more efficient compared to traditional activated carbon regarding the adsorption of PPCPs.Among the emerging adsorbents,graphene and carbon nanotubes composites show superior adsorption ability.Their adsorption mechanisms,such as electrostatic interactions,hydrogen bonding,and pore filling,are discussed in details.

Parallel Physics-Informed Neural Networks Method with Regularization Strategies for the Forward-Inverse Problems of the Variable Coefficient Modified KdV Equation

This paper mainly introduces the parallel physics-informed neural networks(PPINNs)method with regularization strategies to solve the data-driven forward-inverse problems of the variable coefficient modified Korteweg-de Vries(VC-MKdV)equation.For the forward problem of the VC-MKdV equation,the authors use the traditional PINN method to obtain satisfactory data-driven soliton solutions and provide a detailed analysis of the impact of network width and depth on solving accuracy and speed.Furthermore,the author finds that the traditional PINN method outperforms the one with locally adaptive activation functions in solving the data-driven forward problems of the VC-MKdV equation.As for the data-driven inverse problem of the VC-MKdV equation,the author introduces a parallel neural networks to separately train the solution function and coefficient function,successfully addressing the function discovery problem of the VC-MKdV equation.To further enhance the network’s generalization ability and noise robustness,the author incorporates two regularization strategies into the PPINNs.An amount of numerical experimental data in this paper demonstrates that the PPINNs method can effectively address the function discovery problem of the VC-MKdV equation,and the inclusion of appropriate regularization strategies in the PPINNs can improves its performance.

An Environment‑Tolerant Ion‑Conducting Double‑Network Composite Hydrogel for High‑Performance Flexible Electronic Devices

High-performance ion-conducting hydrogels(ICHs)are vital for developing flexible electronic devices.However,the robustness and ion-conducting behavior of ICHs deteriorate at extreme tempera-tures,hampering their use in soft electronics.To resolve these issues,a method involving freeze–thawing and ionizing radiation technology is reported herein for synthesizing a novel double-network(DN)ICH based on a poly(ionic liquid)/MXene/poly(vinyl alcohol)(PMP DN ICH)system.The well-designed ICH exhibits outstanding ionic conductivity(63.89 mS cm^(-1) at 25℃),excellent temperature resistance(-60–80℃),prolonged stability(30 d at ambient temperature),high oxidation resist-ance,remarkable antibacterial activity,decent mechanical performance,and adhesion.Additionally,the ICH performs effectively in a flexible wireless strain sensor,thermal sensor,all-solid-state supercapacitor,and single-electrode triboelectric nanogenerator,thereby highlighting its viability in constructing soft electronic devices.The highly integrated gel structure endows these flexible electronic devices with stable,reliable signal output performance.In particular,the all-solid-state supercapacitor containing the PMP DN ICH electrolyte exhibits a high areal specific capacitance of 253.38 mF cm^(-2)(current density,1 mA cm^(-2))and excellent environmental adaptability.This study paves the way for the design and fabrication of high-performance mul-tifunctional/flexible ICHs for wearable sensing,energy-storage,and energy-harvesting applications.

Perturbation of autophagy pathways in murine alveolar macrophage by 2D TMDCs is chalcogen-dependent

Increasing risks of incidental and occupational exposures to two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides(2D TMDCs)due to their broad application in various areas raised their public health concerns.While the composition-dependent cytotoxicity of 2D TMDCs has been well-recognized,how the outer chalcogenide atoms and inner transition metal atoms differentially contribute to their perturbation on cell homeostasis at non-lethal doses remains to be identified.In the present work,we compared the autophagy induction and related mechanisms in response to WS_(2),NbS_(2),WSe_(2)and Nb Se_(2)nanosheets exposures in MH-S murine alveolar macrophages.All these 2D TMDCs had comparable physicochemical properties,overall cytotoxicity and capability in triggering autophagy in MH-S cells,but showed outer chalcogen-dependent subcellular localization and activation of autophagy pathways.Specifically,WS_(2)and NbS_(2)nanosheets adhered on the cell surface and internalized in the lysosomes,and triggered m TOR-dependent activation of autophagy.Meanwhile,WSe_(2)and Nb Se_(2)nanosheets had extensive distribution in cytoplasm of MH-S cells and induced autophagy in an m TOR-independent manner.Furthermore,the 2D TMDCs-induced perturbation on autophagy aggravated the cytotoxicity of respirable benzo[a]pyrene.These findings provide a deeper insight into the potential health risk of environmental 2D TMDCs from the perspective of homeostasis perturbation.
