Urban development and resource endowments shape natural resource utilization efficiency in Chinese cities

Improving the efficiency with which natural resources are utilized is an indispensable for achieving sustainable development and carbon neutrality. By analyzing the utilization efficiency of energy, water, and land, we established a comprehensive natural resource utilization efficiency index(NRUEI). We then calculated the 2016 index for 165 cities in China,and investigated what caused it to vary. We found three main results:(1) the NRUEI varied greatly across China and there were significant positive correlations between urban energy utilization efficiency(EUE), water utilization efficiency(WUE) and land utilization efficiency(LUE);(2) the NRUEI showed a significant positive correlation with a city’s population size,economy(Gross Domestic Product(GDP)), and the level of urban social development(GDP per capita);(3) cities in East China have the highest natural resource utilization efficiency,while cities in Northeast China have the lowest. These results indicate that China’s increasing urban development is associated with rising natural resource utilization efficiency and that the city’s endowment of natural resources is an important factor affecting that efficiency. Further, the results showed that the determinants of a city’s NRUEI differed in large and small cities. Lastly, our results suggest that improving EUE is key for improving NRUEI in urban China, and different efficiencies can be improved intertwined. A major takeaway of this study is that there is great potential for improving natural resource utilization efficiency in Chinese cities and we include city-specific suggestions for efficiency improvements.

Harnessing antimicrobial peptide-coupled photosensitizer to combat drug-resistant biofilm infections through enhanced photodynamic therapy

Bacterial biofilm-associated infection was one of the most serious threats to human health. However, effective drugs for drug-resistance bacteria or biofilms remain rarely reported. Here, we propose an innovative strategy to develop a multifunctional antimicrobial agent with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity by coupling photosensitizers (PSs) with antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). This strategy capitalizes on the ability of PSs to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the membrane-targeting property of AMPs (KRWWKWIRW, a peptide screened by an artificial neural network), synergistically enhancing the antimicrobial activity. In addition, unlike conventional aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) photosensitizers, aggregation-induced emission (AIE) PSs show stronger fluorescence emission in the aggregated state to help visualize the antibacterial mechanism. In vitro antibacterial experiments demonstrated the excellent killing effects of the developed agent against both Gram-positive (G^(+)) and Gram-negative (G^(–)) bacteria. The bacterial-aggregations induced ability enhanced the photoactivatable antibacterial activity against G^(–) bacteria. Notably, it exhibited a significant effect on destroying MRSA biofilms. Moreover, it also showed remarkable efficacy in treating wound infections in mice in vivo. This multifunctional antimicrobial agent holds significant potential in addressing the challenges posed by bacterial biofilm-associated infections and drug-resistant bacteria.

Revisiting the sodium-ion storage capability of hard carbon in carbonate-based electrolytes via a sodium-metal-free protocol

Common evaluation methodology of sodium(Na)-containing two-electrode or three-electrode configurations overlooks the interference from highly reactive Na metal,leading to the underestimation or inconsistent performance of low-potential hard carbon(HC)electrodes.Herein,the trap of Na metal was systematically investigated with or without applied current,uncovering its inadequacy as the reference or counter electrode in different configurations.A Na-metal-free three-electrode protocol is proposed for evaluating the actual Na^(+)-storage capability of the typical low-potential HC electrode.By avoiding Na crosstalk and precisely controlling the working electrode's potential,the actual electrochemical performance of HC in the carbonate esterbased electrolyte can be recognized with high capacity of 222 mAh g^(-1)at 2 C and 113 mAh g^(-1)at 5 C,correcting the misunderstanding of the inferior performance of HC in coin-type half cells(68%and 50%undervaluation at 2 C and 5 C,respectively).The advanced protocol is expected to reduce misunderstandings or underestimation due to evaluation methods and to guide the development of high-performance battery materials.

A malware propagation prediction model based on representation learning and graph convolutional networks

The traditional malware research is mainly based on its recognition and detection as a breakthrough point,without focusing on its propagation trends or predicting the subsequently infected nodes.The complexity of network structure,diversity of network nodes,and sparsity of data all pose difficulties in predicting propagation.This paper proposes a malware propagation prediction model based on representation learning and Graph Convolutional Networks(GCN)to address the aforementioned problems.First,to solve the problem of the inaccuracy of infection intensity calculation caused by the sparsity of node interaction behavior data in the malware propagation network,a mechanism based on a tensor to mine the infection intensity among nodes is proposed to retain the network structure information.The influence of the relationship between nodes on the infection intensity is also analyzed.Second,given the diversity and complexity of the content and structure of infected and normal nodes in the network,considering the advantages of representation learning in data feature extraction,the corresponding representation learning method is adopted for the characteristics of infection intensity among nodes.This can efficiently calculate the relationship between entities and relationships in low dimensional space to achieve the goal of low dimensional,dense,and real-valued representation learning for the characteristics of propagation spatial data.We also design a new method,Tensor2vec,to learn the potential structural features of malware propagation.Finally,considering the convolution ability of GCN for non-Euclidean data,we propose a dynamic prediction model of malware propagation based on representation learning and GCN to solve the time effectiveness problem of the malware propagation carrier.The experimental results show that the proposed model can effectively predict the behaviors of the nodes in the network and discover the influence of different characteristics of nodes on the malware propagation situation.

Base-or acid-assisted polystyrene plastic degradation in supercritical CO_(2)

Plastic has caused serious"white pollution"to the environment,and the highly inert characteristics of plastic bring a major challenge for degradation.Supercritical fluids have unique physical properties and have been widely used in various fields.In this work,supercritical CO_(2)(Sc-CO_(2))with mild conditions was selected and assisted by NaOH/HCl solution to degrade polystyrene(PS)plastic,and the reaction model was designed using response surface methodology(RSM).It was found that,regardless of the types of assistance solutions,the factors affecting PS degradation efficiencies were reaction temperature,reaction time,and NaOH/HCl concentration.At the temperature of 400℃,time of 120 min,and base/acid concentration of 5%(in weight),0.15 g PS produced 126.88/116.99±5 mL of gases with 74.18/62.78±5 mL of H2,and consumed 81.2/71.5±5 mL of CO_(2).Sc-CO_(2)created a homogeneous environment,which made PS highly dispersed and uniformly heated,thus promoting the degradation of PS.Moreover,Sc-CO_(2)also reacted with the degradation products to produce new CO and more CH_(4)and C_(2)H_(x)(x=4,6).Adding NaOH/HCl solution not only improved the solubility of PS in Sc-CO_(2),but also provided a base/acid environment that reduced the activation energy of the reaction,and effectively improved the degradation efficiencies of PS.In short,degrading PS in Sc-CO_(2)is feasible,and better results are obtained with the assistance of base/acid solution,which can provide a reference for the disposal of waste plastics in the future.

The automotive industry is in the midst of a groundbreaking revolution,driven by the imperative to achieve intelligent driving and carbon neutrality.A crucial aspect of this transformation is the transition to electric vehicles(EVs),which necessitates widespread changes throughout the entire automotive ecosystem.This paper examines the challenges and opportunities of this transition,including automotive electrification,intelligence-connected transportation system,and the potential for new technologies such as hydrogen fuel cells.Meanwhile,it discusses the key technologies and progress of the hydrogen energy industry chain in the upstream hydrogen production,midstream hydrogen storage and transportation,downstream hydrogen station construction and hydrogen fuel cells in turn.Finally,it proposes the directions for future layout,providing guidance for future development.

A User Participation Behavior Prediction Model of Social Hotspots Based on Influence and Markov Random Field

Hotspot topic trends can be captured by analyzing user attributes and historical behavior in social network. In this paper,we propose a user participation behavior prediction model for social hotspots,based on user behavior and relationship data,to predict user participation behavior and topic development trends. Firstly,for the complex factors of user behavior,three dynamic influence factor functions are defined,including individual,peer and community influence. These functions take timeliness into account using a time discretization method. Secondly,to determine laws of individual behavior and group behavior within a social topic,a hotspot user participation behavior prediction model is proposed and associated with the basic concepts of random field and Markov property in information diffusion. The experimental results show that the model can not only dynamically predict the individual behavior,but also grasp the development trends of topics.

Lower crustal attenuation in northeastern Tibetan Plateau from ML amplitude

This study investigated the crustal attenuation structures of Sg and Lg waves of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau.We collected ML amplitude data recorded at 168 permanent stations between 1985 and 2016 and 11 temporary broadband stations between 2014 and 2016.Detailed Q0 variation maps of Sg and Lg waves were obtained by applying ML amplitude tomography.The average Q0 values of the Sg and Lg wave were 440 and 220,respectively.Relatively high attenuation anomalies of both waves appeared in the central and eastern regions of the Bayan Har Block and the east edge of the Qiangtang Block,which may be related to partial melting,high geotemperature,and strong tectonic processes.High attenuation anomalies were also found in the Qilian Orogenic Belt and Hetao Graben,which may be related to their active tectonic behavior and densely distributed faults.The relatively low attenuation anomalies of both waves were revealed in the Alax and Ordos blocks,Qaidam,Tarim,Qinghai Lake,and Gonghe basins,which can be explained by the tectonically stable properties and ancient composition of geological elements.These results indicate that the path between the highly attenuated lower crust of the Bayan Har Block and the Qilian Orogenic Belt is obstructed by three adjacent low attenuated areas(i.e.,the Qilian,Qinghai Lake,and Gonghe basins);thus,it appears unlikely that a crustal flow channel from the interior of the Tibetan Plateau to the Qilian Orogenic Belt will form.

Bayonet-corpus:a trajectory prediction method based on bayonet context and bidirectional GRU

Predicting travel trajectory of vehicles can not only provide personalized services to users,but also have a certain effect on traffic guidance and traffic control.In this paper,we build a Bayonet-Corpus based on the context of traffic intersections,and use it to model a traffic network.Besides,Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit(Bi-GRU)is used to predict the sequence of traffic intersections in one single trajectory.Firstly,considering that real traffic networks are usually complex and disorder and cannot reflect the higher dimensional relationship among traffic intersections,this paper proposes a new traffic network modeling algorithm based on the context of traffic intersections:inspired by the probabilistic language model,a Bayonet-Corpus is constructed from traffic intersections in real trajectory sequence,so the high-dimensional similarity between corpus nodes can be used to measure the semantic relation of real traffic intersections.This algorithm maps vehicle trajectory nodes into a high-dimensional space vector,blocking complex structure of real traffic network and reconstructing the traffic network space.Then,the bayonets sequence in real traffic network is mapped into a matrix.Considering the trajectories sequence is bidirectional,and Bi-GRU can handle information from forward and backward simultaneously,we use Bi-GRU to bidirectionally model the trajectory matrix for the purpose of prediction.

A parallel matching algorithm based on order relation for HLA data distribution management

In distribution simulation based on High-level architecture(HLA),data distribution management(DDM)is one of HLA services for the purpose of filtering the unnecessary data transferring over the network.DDM admits the sending federates and the receiving federates to express their interest using update regions and subscription regions in a multidimensional routing space.There are several matching algorithms to obtain overlap information between the update regions and subscription regions.When the number of regions increase sharply,the matching process is time consuming.However,the existing algorithms is hard to be parallelized to take advantage of the computing capabilities of multi-core processors.To reduce the computational overhead of region matching,we propose a parallel algorithm based on order relation to accelerate the matching process.The new matching algorithm adopts divide-and-conquer approach to divide the regions into multiple region bound sublists,each of which comprises parts of region bounds.To calculate the intersection inside and amongst the region bound sublists,two matching rules are presented.This approach has good performance since it performs region matching on the sublists parallel and does not require unnecessary comparisons within regions in different sublists.Theoretical analysis has been carried out for the proposed algorithm and experimental result shows that the proposed algorithm has better performance than major existing DDM matching algorithms.
