Metal–organic frameworks(MOFs)and layered double hydroxides(LDHs)have been considered to be one of the most promising and worthy hot spot materials to develop advanced catalysts for effi cient hydrogen evolution due to their prominent characteristics,including unique structures,environmentally friendly nature,high redox activities,and homogeneously eff ective utilization of transition metal *** this work,the delicate S-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst,CoAl LDH@Ni-MOF-74,was rationally designed and successfully constructed by coupling Ni-MOF-74 with CoAl LDH based on their peculiar structure,excellent electronic properties,and opposite surface potential for enhancing hydrogen generation activity under visible light *** CoAl LDH nanolayers evenly and dispersedly load on the surface of *** CoAl LDH@Ni-MOF-74 exhibited higher photocatalytic hydrogen evolution activity compared with Ni-MOF-74 and CoAl LDH alone,mainly because the formation of the CoAl LDH@Ni-MOF-74 S-scheme heterojunction accelerated the recombination of several electrons(from conduction band(CB)of Ni-MOF-74)and holes(from valence band(VB)of CoAl LDH)and prevented the recombination of other electrons(from CB of CoAl LDH)and holes(from VB of Ni-MOF-74).

Electropulse modification (EPM) process, a new physical field method for improving the solidification structure of metals was *** from other research, EPM is only acting pulse current on melt under liquid *** solidification structure of Al-Si alloys, A1-Cu alloys,cast iron and steel can be modified obviously with this method: the solidification structure of ZL101 alloy presented the Na and Sr modification and the mechanical properties were enhanced; a large number of primary silicon appeared in the microstructure of ZL109 alloy; the equiaxed grain zone was expanded and the grains were fined in Al-5.0wt% Cu alloy; the graphitization took place in solidification process of molten cast iron; the grain sizes of solidification structure of T8 steel were reduced significantly and the shape of steel pearlites also changed; the equiaxed grain zone increased to 88% from original untreated 19%, the equiaxed grains were fined and the intercrystalline crack was avoided in concasting billet by continuously treating liquid electrical sheet steel in *** of rare earths on casting Al-Si alloys were also *** method of modifying the solidification structure of rare earth Al-Si alloys with EPM in producing the alloys was proposed.

Antigenic drift forces us to frequently update influenza vaccines; however, the genetic basis for antigenic variation remains largely unknown. In this study, we used clade 7.2 H5 viruses as models to explore the molecular determinants of influenza virus antigenic variation. We generated eight monoclonal antibodies(MAbs) targeted to the hemagglutinin(HA) protein of the index virus A/chicken/Shanxi/2/2006 and found that two representative antigenically drifted clade 7.2 viruses did not react with six of the eight MAbs. The E131 N mutation and insertion of leucine at position 134 in the HA protein of the antigenically drifted strains eliminated the reactivity of the virus with the MAbs. We also found that the amino acid N131 in the H5 HA protein is glycosylated. Our results provide experimental evidence that glycosylation and an amino acid insertion or deletion in HA influence antigenic variation.

Bacterial biofilm-associated infection was one of the most serious threats to human health. However, effective drugs for drug-resistance bacteria or biofilms remain rarely reported. Here, we propose an innovative strategy to develop a multifunctional antimicrobial agent with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity by coupling photosensitizers (PSs) with antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). This strategy capitalizes on the ability of PSs to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the membrane-targeting property of AMPs (KRWWKWIRW, a peptide screened by an artificial neural network), synergistically enhancing the antimicrobial activity. In addition, unlike conventional aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) photosensitizers, aggregation-induced emission (AIE) PSs show stronger fluorescence emission in the aggregated state to help visualize the antibacterial mechanism. In vitro antibacterial experiments demonstrated the excellent killing effects of the developed agent against both Gram-positive (G^(+)) and Gram-negative (G^(–)) bacteria. The bacterial-aggregations induced ability enhanced the photoactivatable antibacterial activity against G^(–) bacteria. Notably, it exhibited a significant effect on destroying MRSA biofilms. Moreover, it also showed remarkable efficacy in treating wound infections in mice in vivo. This multifunctional antimicrobial agent holds significant potential in addressing the challenges posed by bacterial biofilm-associated infections and drug-resistant bacteria.

A thermostable superoxide dismutase （SOD） from the inshore thermophile Thermus sp. JM1 was purified to homogeneity by steps of fractional ammonium sulfate precipitation, DEAE-Sepharose chromatography and Phenyl-Sepharose chromatography. The specific activity of the purified native enzyme was 1 656 U/mg. A sod gene from this strain was cloned and overexpressed in Escherichia coli （E. coli）. The prepared apo-enzyme of the purified recombinant SOD （rSOD） was reconstituted with either Fe or Mn by means of incubation with appropriate metal salts. As a result, only Mn 2＋ - reconstituted rSOD （Mn-rSOD） exhibited the specific activity of 1 598 U/mg. SOD from Thermus sp. JM1 was Mn-SOD, judging by the specific activities analysis of Fe or Mn reconstituted rSODs and the insensitivity of the native SOD to both cyanide and H 2 O 2 . Both the native SOD and Mn- rSOD were determined to be homotetramers with monomeric molecular mass of 26 kDa and 27.5 kDa, respectively. They had high thermostability at 50 ° C and 60 ° C, and showed striking stability across a wide pH span from 4.0 to 11.0.

H7N9 virus infection triggers lethal cytokine storm by activating gasdermin E-mediated pyroptosis of lung alveolar epithelial cells

The H7 N9 influenza virus emerged in China in 2013,causing more than 1560 human infections,39% of which were fatal.A ’cytokine storm’ in the lungs of H7 N9 patients has been linked to a poor prognosis and death;however,the underlying mechanism that triggers the cytokine storm is ***,we found that efficient replication of the H7 N9 virus in mouse lungs activates gasdermin E(GSDME)-mediated pyroptosis in alveolar epithelial cells,and that the released cytosolic contents then trigger a cytokine *** of Gsdme switched the manner of death of A549 and human primary alveolar epithelial cells from pyroptosis to apoptosis upon H7 N9 virus infection,and Gsdme knockout mice survived H7 N9 virus lethal *** findings reveal that GSDME activation is a key and unique mechanism for the pulmonary cytokine storm and lethal outcome of H7 N9 virus infection and thus opens a new door for the development of antivirals against the H7 N9 virus.
