Association between coronary artery calcification and cognitive function in a Chinese community-based population

Background Coronary atherosclerosis and cognitive impairment are both age-related diseases,with similar risk *** artery calcium(CAC),a marker of coronary atherosclerosis,may play a role in early detection of individuals prone to cognitive *** study aimed to investigate the relationship between CAC and cognitive function,and the capability of CAC to identify participants with a high risk of dementia in a Chinese community-based *** A total of 1332 participants,aged 40-80 years and free of dementia from a community located in Beijing were *** participants completed neurocognitive questionnaires and noncontrast CT *** performance tests(including verbal memory,semantic fluency,executive function,and global cognitive function tests),the Cardiovascular Risk Factors,Aging,and Incidence of Dementia(CIDE)risk score,and the CAC score(CACS)were evaluated by questionnaires and CT.A CAIDE score≥10 was considered to indicate a high risk of dementia in *** were divided into three groups according to CACS(0,1-399,≥400).Results After adjusting for risk factors,CACS was significantly associated with verbal memory(r=-0.083,P=0.003)and global cognitive function(r=-0.070,P=0.012).The prevalence of a high risk of dementia in the subgroups of CACS=0,1-399,and≥400 was 4.67%,13.66%,and 24.79%,respectively(Pmarker of subclinical atherosclerosis,was significantly associated with cognitive performance in verbal memory and global cognitive *** had a moderate capability to identify participants with a high risk of dementia,independent of age,education,and other risk factors.

We demonstrate a diode pumped Yb：LuVO4 laser that can be passively Q-switched by a Cr^（4＋）：YAG saturable absorber having an initial transmission as high as 99.3%.A maximum pulsed output power of 2.35 W is generated at a repetition rate of 285.7 kHz,approaching or very near the intrinsic upper limit imposed by the recovery time of the Cr^（4＋）：YAG saturable absorber,and the resulting pulse energy,duration and peak power are,respectively,8.2μJ,39.2ns and 0.209kW.

A functional hybrid nano-hydroxyapatite(carboxymethyl cellulose-phytic acid-n-HA,CMC-PA-n-HA)was prepared by adding CMC and *** results of Fourier transformation infrared spectra,X-ray diffraction,thermal gravimetric analysis and dispersion experiments indicated that the addition of CMC and PA affected the morphology,crystallinity and crystal size of hybrid n-HA,and CMC endowed hybrid n-HA with excellent *** electron microscope results showed that CMC-PA-n-HA nanoparticle could be uniformly dispersed in chitosan(CS)matrix to obtain composite membrane by casting technology,so that the highest tensile strength of CMC-PA-n-HA/CS composite membrane was 69.64%and 144.45%higher than that of CS membrane and n-HA/CS composite membrane,*** angle test showed that CMC-PA-n-HA effectively improved hydrophilicity of the CS *** simulated body fluid immersion results indicated that the CMC-PA-n-HA/CS composite membrane not only exhibited good degradability but also promoted bone-like apatite *** cell proliferation experiments proved that the introduction of PA made the composite membrane have better cell adhesion and proliferation *** tests demonstrated that PA could effectively improve the antibacterial properties of the composite membrane,which is expected to be applied as guide bone tissue regeneration membrane.

During long-term service in space,Gallium Arsenide(GaAs)solar cells are directly exposed to electron irradiation which usually causes a dramatic decrease in their *** the multilayer structure of solar cells,the germanium(Ge)layer occupies the majority of the thickness as the *** to the intrinsic brittleness of semiconductor material,there exist various defects during the preparation and assembly of solar cells,the influences of which tend to be intensified by the irradiation *** this work,first,Ge specimens for mechanical tests were prepared at scales from microscopic to ***,after different doses of electron irradiation,the mechanical properties of the Ge specimens were *** experimental results demonstrate that electron irradiation has an obvious effect on the mechanical property variation of Ge in diverse *** four-point bending test indicates that the elastic modulus,fracture strength,and maximum displacement of the Ge specimens all increase,and reach the maximum value at the irradiation dose of 1×10^(15)e/cm^(2).The micrometer scale cantilever and nanoindentation tests present similar trends for Ge specimens after *** Force Microscope(AFM)also observed the change in surface ***,a fitting model was established to characterize the relation between modulus change and electron irradiation dose.

Drought stress limits agricultural productivity *** and characterizing genetic components of drought stress-tolerance networks may improve crop resistance to drought *** show that the regulatory module formed by miR166 and its target gene,ATHB14-LIKE,functions in the regulation of drought tolerance in soybean(Glycine max).Drought stress represses the accumulation of miR166,leading to upregulation of its target *** knockdown of miR166 in the stable transgenic line GmSTTM166 conferred drought tolerance without affecting *** of ABA signaling pathway genes was regulated by the miR166-mediated regulatory pathway,and ATHB14-LIKE directly activates some of these *** is a feedback regulation between ATHB14-LIKE and MIR166 genes,and ATHB14-LIKE inhibits MIR166 *** findings reveal that drought-triggered regulation of the miR166-mediated regulatory pathway increases plants drought resistance,providing new insights into drought stress regulatory network in soybean.

This study focused on the effect of glass structures of modern architecture on the indoor thermal environment during *** particular,this study examined how solar radiation significantly altered people’s thermal *** tests on convection–radiation air conditioning systems were conducted,encompassing 12 different scenarios,including diverse indoor open areas,terminal forms,and levels of solar *** tests aimed to explore the physiological and psychological responses of the human body to solar radiation penetrating through windows into the inner *** the experiments,the participants’subjective thermal sensations and thermal comfort were recorded,along with continuous monitoring of their physiological and environmental *** showed that solar radiation significantly increased local skin temperature,with a maximum rise of 2.15℃.Operative temperature is a reliable indicator of human skin temperature and thermal sensation vote(TSV).This study established two models that could predict the skin temperature of individuals indoors through operative temperature under conditions without or with solar radiation,and identified sensitive ranges of operative temperature for both models,to be specific,26.32℃to 28.43℃and 28.51℃to 34.11℃,***,this study established the relationship between skin temperature and TSV under conditions with and without solar *** results indicate that solar radiation enhances the human body’s adaptability to indoor environmental parameters;a convection–radiation system(FC+RF)could be used to optimize indoor thermal control under solar radiation,achieving more stable environmental temperatures and improved indoor comfort.

Our previous research studies have shown that Veratrilla baillonii Franch,a food supplement used by ethnic minorities in Southwest China,has multiple pharmacological activities,such as detoxification,antiinflammatory,antioxidant,and anti-insulin ***,the detailed signal pathways for its salutary effect on damages in multiple organs due to type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)remains *** current study is to evaluate the therapeutic effects of *** on T2DM rats and to explore the underlying *** T2DM rat model was successfully established by a high-sugar and high-fat diet(HFD)combination with intraperitoneal injection of a small dose of streptozotocin(STZ,35 mg/kg).Biochemical analysis and histopatholgical examinations were conducted to evaluate the anti-diabetic potential of water extracts of ***(WVBF).The results showed that the WVBF treatment can improve hyperglycemia and insulin resistance,ameliorate the liver,kidney and pancreas injuries via decreasing inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and TNF-α,and oxidative *** investigation suggested that WVBF modulates the signal transductions of the IRS1/PI3K/AKT/GLUT4 and AMPK *** findings demonstrate potentials of WVBF in the treatment of T2DM and possible mechanisms for its hepatoprotective activities.
