Naringenin protects against isoniazid- and rifampicininduced apoptosis in hepatic injury

AIM To explore the protective effects and mechanisms of naringenin(NRG) on hepatic injury induced by isoniazid(INH) and rifampicin(RIF).METHODS Male mice were randomly divided into four groups and treated for 14 d as follows: normal control group was administered intragastrically with normal saline solution alone; model group was administered intragastrically with INH(100 mg/kg) and RIF(100 mg/kg); lowand high-dosage NRG pretreatment groups were administered intragastrically with different doses of NRG(50 or 100 mg/kg) 2 h before INH and RIF challenge. Mice were killed 16 h after the last dose of drug treatment to determine activity of serum transaminases. Oxidative stress was evaluated by measuring hepatic glutathione(GSH) and superoxide dismutase(SOD) and malondialdehyde(MDA) levels. Histopathological changes in hepatic tissue were observed under the optical microscope. Hepatocyte apoptosis was measured by TUNEL assay and caspase-3 activation. Expression of Bcl-2 and Bax in liver was determined by western blot.RESULTS Both low- and high-dosage NRG pretreatment obviously alleviated serum levels of alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase, liver index, hepatic MDA content, and increased hepatic GSH content and SOD activity compared with the INH and RIF-treated group(44.71 ± 8.15 U/L, 38.22 ± 6.64 U/L vs 58.15 ± 10.54 U/L; 98.36 ± 14.78 U/L, 92.41 ± 13.59 U/L vs 133.05 ± 19.36 U/L; 5.34% ± 0.26%, 4.93% ± 0.25% vs 5.71% ± 0.28%; 2.76 ± 0.67 nmol/mgprot, 2.64 ± 0.64 nmol/mgprot vs 4.49 ± 1.12 nmol/mgprot; 5.91 ± 1.31 mg/gprot, 6.42 ± 1.42 mg/gprot vs 3.11 ± 0.73 mg/gprot; 137.31 ± 24.62 U/mgprot, 148.83 ± 26.75 U/mgprot vs 102.34 ± 19.22 U/mgprot; all P < 0.01 or 0.05). Histopathological evaluation showed obvious necrosis and inflammatory cell infiltration in liver of mice administered INH and RIF; however, mice pretreated with NRG showed minor hepatic injury. This work studies the ionic conductivity of nanosized Gd-, Sm-, and Y-doped ceria prepared by the infiltration/impregnation method. The nanoparticles were deposited onto porous pure ceria substrates via infiltration- heating processes, and the conductivity was determined with the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy （EIS） using the conductive model for infiltrated phases. The conductivity of the infiltrated doped ceria changes with the doping amount, and Gd0.25Ce0.75O2-δ, Sm0.2Ce0.8O2-δ, and Y0.15Ce0.85O2-δ show the highest values of 2.56, 3.01, and 2.07 × 10-3 S.cm-1 at 600 ℃, respectively. Overall, Sin-doped samples show the highest conductivity, whileY-doped samples show the lowest conductivity. In con- sideration of the Bruggeman factor, the intrinsic conduc- tivity of the infiltrated doped ceria was calculated. Compared with the bulk doped ceria, the intrinsic con- ductivity is higher while the activation energy is lower, which may suggest different conduction mechanisms. Besides, co-doping effects on the conductivity of the infiltrated sample are less obvious than those of the bulk sample.

E-MobileNeXt: face expression recognition model based on improved MobileNeXt

In response to the high complexity and low accuracy of current facial expression recognition networks, this paper proposes an E-Mobile Ne Xt network for facial expression recognition. E-Mobile Ne Xt is built based on our proposed E-Sand Glass block. In addition, we also improve the overall performance of the network through Rep Conv and SGE attention mechanisms. The experimental results show that the network model improves the expression recognition accuracy by 6.5% and 7.15% in RAF-DB and CK+ datasets, respectively, while the parameter and floating-point operations decreased by 0.79 M and 4.2 M compared with Mobile Ne Xt.

Cobalt doping amount determines dominant reactive species in peroxymonosulfate activation via porous carbon catalysts co-doped by cobalt and nitrogen

Switching the reaction routes in peroxymonosulfate(PMS)-based advanced oxidation processes have attracted much attention but remain challenging.Herein,a series of Co-N/C catalysts with different compositions and structures were prepared by using bimetallic zeolitic imidazolate frameworks based on ZIF-8 and ZIF-67(x Zn/Co-ZIFs).Results show that Co doping amount could mediate the transformation of the activation pathway of PMS over CoN/C.When Co doping amount was less than 10%,the constructed x Co-N/C/PMS system(x≤10%)was singlet oxygen-dominated reaction;however further increasing Co doping amount would lead to the generation and coexistence of sulfate radicals and high-valent cobalt,besides singlet oxygen.Furthermore,the nitrogen-coordinated Co(Co-NX)sites could serve as main catalytically active sites to generate singlet oxygen.While excess Co doping amount caused the formation of Co nanoparticles from which leached Co ions were responsible for the generation of sulfate radicals and high-valent cobalt.Compared to undoped N/C,Co doping could significantly enhance the catalytic performance.The 0.5%Co-N/C could achieve the optimum degradation(0.488 min^(-1))and mineralization abilities(78.4%)of sulfamethoxazole among the investigated Co-N/C catalysts,which was superior to most of previously reported catalysts.In addition,the application prospects of the two systems in different environmental scenarios(pH,inorganic anions and natural organic matter)were assessed and showed different degradation behaviors.This study provides a strategy to regulate the reactive species in PMS-based advanced oxidation process.

The Influence of Acid on the RockMechanical Characteristics of Deep Shale in theWujiaping Formation

The microscopic characteristics and mechanical properties of rocks change after the action of acid on deep shale,which affects the fracturing effect.Accordingly,we designed and conducted indoor experiments related to the changes in macro and microscopic characteristics after the interaction of acid with the shale of Wujiaping Formation,based on which the characteristic law of fracture volume modification after acid fracturing was studied using numerical simulation.The results demonstrate that the pores and fractures are enlarged and the structure is significantly loosened after the acid immersion.And a 15%concentration of hydrochloric acid can effectively dissolve shale.Furthermore,the degree of acid-etching reaction is highly variable because of the different carbonate content,which reveals the strong inhomogeneity of the shale system in the Wujiaping Group reservoir section.After the acid interacted with the shale rock samples,the triaxial compressive strength,elastic modulus,and Poisson’s ratio of shale decreased.Moreover,the evaluation of the effect after acid fracturing simulated by fracturing software revealed that the smaller the value of elastic modulus in shale-based reservoirs,the more favorable the fracture volume modification.This discovery not only provides a theoretical basis for the expansion and extension patterns of acid-fracturing in carbonaceous shale formations but also offers research methods and theoretical insights for the fundamental exploration of other deep-seated oil and gas resources.

Aerodynamic Analysis and Optimization of Pantograph Streamline Fairing for High-Speed Trains

A pantograph serves as a vital device for the collection of electricity in trains.However,its aerodynamic resistance can limit the train’s running speed.As installing fairings around the pantograph is known to effectively reduce the resistance,in this study,different fairing lengths are considered and the related aerodynamic performances of pantograph are assessed.In particular,this is accomplished through numerical simulations based on the k-ωShear Stress Transport(SST)two-equation turbulence model.The results indicate that the fairing diminishes the direct impact of high-speed airflow on the pantograph,thereby reducing its aerodynamic resistance.However,it also induces interferences in the flow field around the train,leading to variations in the aerodynamic resistance and lift of train components.It is shown that a maximum reduction of 56.52%in pantograph aerodynamic resistance and a peak decrease of 3.38%in total train aerodynamic resistance can be achieved.

Pre-combustion mercury removal with co-production of hydrogen via coal electrolysis

Pre-combustion mercury removal via coal electrolysis was performed and investigated on a bench-scale coal electrolytic cell(CEC)systemically,and factorial design was used to determine the effect of different operating conditions(coal particle size,operating temperature,operating cell voltage,and flow rate of slurry)on the percentage of mercury removal,percentage of ash removal,and dry heating value change.The results showed that the operating cell voltage,as well as the interaction between operating cell voltage and coal particle size,are significant factors in the percentage of mercury removal.There is no significant factor in the percentage of ash removal and the dry heating value change,but the coal could be purified while keeping the dry heating value almost constant after electrolysis.A co-product of hydrogen could be produced during coal electrolysis with 50%lower energy consumption compared with water electrolysis.Meanwhile,a mechanism for mercury removal in coal was proposed.The facts indicate that coal electrolysis is a promising method for precombustion mercury removal.

BACKGROUND Addison’s disease(AD)is a rare but potentially fatal disease in Western countries,which can easily be misdiagnosed at an early stage.Severe adrenal tuberculosis(TB)may lead to depression in patients.CASE SUMMARY We report a case of primary adrenal insufficiency secondary to adrenal TB with TB in the lungs and skin in a 48-year-old woman.The patient was misdiagnosed with depression because of her depressed mood.She had hyperpigmentation of the skin,nails,mouth,and lips.The final diagnosis was adrenal TB that resulted in the insufficient secretion of adrenocortical hormone.Adrenocortical hormone test,skin biopsy,T cell spot test of TB,and adrenal computed tomography scan were used to confirm the diagnosis.The patient’s condition improved after hormone replacement therapy and TB treatment.CONCLUSION Given the current status of TB in high-burden countries,outpatient doctors should be aware of and pay attention to TB and understand the early symptoms of AD.

Dual-ion carrier storage through Mg^(2+) addition for high-energy and long-life zinc-ion hybrid capacitor

Cation additives can efficiently enhance the total electrochemical capabilities of zinc-ion hybrid capacitors (ZHCs).However their energy storage mechanisms in zinc-based systems are still under debate.Herein,we modulate the electrolyte and achieve dual-ion storage by adding magnesium ions.And we assemble several Zn//activated carbon devices with different electrolyte concentrations and investigate their electrochemical reaction dynamic behaviors.The zinc-ion capacitor with Mg^(2+)mixed solution delivers 82 mAh·g^(-1)capacity at 1 A·g^(-1) and maintains 91%of the original capacitance after 10000 cycling.It is superior to the other assembled zinc-ion devices in single-component electrolytes.The finding demonstrates that the double-ion storage mechanism enables the superior rate performance and long cycle lifetime of ZHCs.

Two-stage extraction by partial grinding of impacted mandibular third molar in close proximity to the inferior alveolar nerve

BACKGROUND Extraction of impacted third molars often leads to severe complications caused by damage to the inferior alveolar nerve(IAN).AIM To proposes a method for the partial grinding of an impacted mandibular third molar(IMM3)near the IAN to prevent IAN injury during IMM3 extraction.METHODS Between January 1996 and March 2022,25 patients with IMM3 roots near the IAN were enrolled.The first stage of the operation consisted of grinding a major part of the IMM3 crown with a high-speed turbine dental drill to achieve sufficient space between the mandibular second molar and IMM3.After 6 months,when the root tips were observed to be away from the IAN on X-ray examination,the remaining part of the IMM3 was completely removed.RESULTS All IMM3s were extracted easily without symptoms of IAN injury after extraction.CONCLUSION Partial IMM3 grinding may be a good alternative treatment option to avoid IAN injury in high-risk cases.
