Improved image resolution on thoracic carcinomas by quantitative 18F-FDG coincidence SPECT/CT in comparison to 18F-FDG PET/CT

Currently,18F-FDG coincidence SPECT(Co-SPECT)/CT scan still serves as an important tool for diagnosis,staging,and evaluation of cancer treatment in developing *** implemented full physical corrections(FPC) to Co-SPECT(quantitative Co-SPECT) to improve the image resolution and contrast along with the capability for image *** included attenuation,scatter,resolution recovery,and noise reduction.A standard NEMA phantom filled with 10:1 F-18 activity concentration ratio in spheres and background was utilized to evaluate image ***,15 patients with histologically confirmed thoracic carcinomas were included to undergo a 18 F-FDG Co-SPECT/CT scan followed by a 18 F-FDG PET/CT *** parameters as SUVmax,SUVmean,SULpeak,and MTV from both quantitative Co-SPECT and PET were *** resolution of Co-SPECT for NEMA phantom was improved to reveal the smallest sphere from a diameter of 28 mm to 22 mm(17 mm for PET).The image contrast was enhanced from 1.7 to 6.32(6.69 for PET) with slightly degraded uniformity in background(3.1% vs.6.7%)(5.6% for PET).Patients’ SUVmax,SUVmean,SULpeak,and MTV measured from quantitative Co-SPECT were overall highly correlated with those from PET(r=0.82-0.88).Adjustment of the threshold of SUVmax and SUV to determine SUVmean and MTV did not further change the correlations with PET(r=0.81-0.88).Adding full physical corrections to Co-SPECT images can significantly improve image resolution and contrast to reveal smaller tumor lesions along with the capability to quantify functional parameters like PET/CT.

Coupled with a petrographical study, I carried out an ion probe study of rare earth element microdistributions in mineral phases of silicate inclusions from the Colomera ⅡE iron meteorite. Most mineral grains have homogeneous REEs, but show considerable inter-grain variations by a factor of 2 to 100. The whole rock REE abundances for Colomera, estimated by combining REE data with modal abundances, are relatively LREE-enriched with REEs of -10’CI, which suggest that Colomera silicates were highly differentiated and might represent a low degree partial melt (-10%) of a chondritic source. REE geochemistry of Colomera silicate inclusions points to an origin that involves differentiation, dynamic mixing, remelting, reduction, recrystallization, and subsequent rapid cooling near the surface of a planetary body.

Working as an ensemble method that establishes a committee of classifiers first and then aggregates their out- comes through majority voting, bagging has attracted consid- erable research interest and been applied in various applica- tion domains. It has demonstrated several advantages, but in its present form, bagging has been found to be less accurate than some other ensemble methods. To unlock its power and expand its user base, we propose an approach that improves bagging through the use of multi-algorithm ensembles. In a multi-algorithm ensemble, multiple classification algorithms are employed. Starting from a study of the nature of diver- sity, we show that compared to using different training sets alone, using heterogeneous algorithms together with different training sets increases diversity in ensembles, and hence we provide a fundamental explanation for research utilizing het- erogeneous algorithms. In addition, we partially address the problem of the relationship between diversity and accuracy by providing a non-linear function that describes the relation- ship between diversity and correlation. Furthermore, after re- alizing that the bootstrap procedure is the exclusive source of diversity in bagging, we use heterogeneity as another source of diversity and propose an approach utilizing heterogeneous algorithms in bagging. For evaluation, we consider several benchmark data sets from various application domains. The results indicate that, in terms of Fl-measure, our approach outperforms most of the other state-of-the-art ensemble meth- ods considered in experiments and, in terms of mean margin, our approach is superior to all the others considered in experiments.

Photoluminescence （PL） characteristics of Tb-doped silicon rich oxide （SRO） films prepared by DC-sputtering and post-annealing processes were studied. The silicon richness of the SRO film could be controlled by varying the sputtering power and oxygen concentration in the sputtering chamber. PL emission from the as-deposited sample was found to be composed of Th^3 ＋ intra 4f transition-related emission and the silicon nano particle-related broad bandwidth emission. Thermal annealing could significantly improve the material properties as well as the PL signals. PL properties depended strongly upon the annealing scheme and silicon richness. Annealing at high temperatures （900- 1050℃） enhanced Tbrelated emission and suppressed the silicon nano particle-related emission. For samples with different silicon richness, annealing at 950 ℃ was found to produce higher PL signals than at other temperatures. It was attributed more to lifetime quenching than to concentration quenching. Electroluminescent （EL） devices with a capacitor structure were fabricated, the optimized process condition for the EL device was found to be different from that of PL emission. Among the annealing schemes that were used, wet oxidation was found to improve device performance the most, whereas, dry oxidation was found to improve material property the most. Wet oxidation allowed the breakdown electrical field to increase significantly and to reach above 10 mV·cm^-1. The EL spectra showed a typical Th^3＋ emission, agreeing well with the PL spectra. The I-V measurements indicated that for 100 nm thick film, the Fowler-Nordheim tunneling started at an electrical field of around 6 mV·cm^-1 and the light emission became detectable at a current density of around 10-4 A·cm^-2 and higher. Strong electroluminescence light emission was detected when the electrical field was close to 10 mV·cm^-1.
