Interannual variability of boreal summer intraseasonal oscillation over the northwestern Pacific influenced by the Pacific Meridional Mode

During the boreal summer,intraseasonal oscillations exhibit significant interannual variations in intensity over two key regions:the central-western equatorial Pacific(5°S-5°N,150°E-150°W)and the subtropical Northwestern Pacific(10°-20°N,130°E-175°W).The former is well-documented and considered to be influenced by the ENSO,while the latter has received comparatively less attention and is likely influenced by the Pacific Meridional Mode(PMM),as suggested by partial correlation analysis *** elucidate the physical processes responsible for the enhanced(weakened)intraseasonal convection over the subtropical northwestern Pacific during warm(cold)PMM years,the authors employed a moisture budget *** findings reveal that during warm PMM years,there is an increase in summer-mean moisture over the subtropical northwestern *** increase interacts with intensified vertical motion perturbations in the region,leading to greater vertical moisture advection in the lower troposphere and consequently resulting in convective *** a process is pivotal in amplifying intraseasonal convection *** observational findings were further verified by model experiments forced by PMM-like sea surface temperature patterns.

Plate structures are employed as important structural components in many engineering applications. Hence, assessing the structural conditions of in-service plate structures is critical to monitoring global structural health. Modal curvature-based damage detection techniques have recently garnered considerable attention from the research community, and have become a promising vibration-based structural health monitoring solution. However, computing errors arise when calculating modal curvatures from lateral mode shapes, which result from unavoidable measurement errors in the mode shapes as identified from lateral vibration signals; this makes curvature-based algorithms that use a lateral measurement only theoretically feasible, but practically infeasible. Therefore, in this study, long-gauge fiber Bragg grating strain sensors are employed to obtain a modal curvature without a numerical differentiation procedure in order to circumvent the computing errors. Several damage indices based on modal curvatures that were developed to locate beam damage are employed. Both numerical and experimental studies are performed to validate the proposed approach. However, although previous studies have reported relative success with the application of these damage indices on a simple beam, only one damage index demonstrated the capability to locate damage when the stiffness of the local region changed near the sensor.

This paper applies the repetition index scheme(RIS)to the channel identification of cyclic prefixed(CP)multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(MIMO-OFDM)systems with virtual carriers(VCs)in the environment of the number of receive antennas being no less than that of transmit *** VCs will cause a rank deficiency problem in computing the subspace *** the subcarrier mapping matrix,the received signal is simplified to remove the rank *** use the RIS scheme to generate many times of equivalent symbols so the channel identification can converge with few received OFDM *** RIS scheme will convert the white noise into non-white *** the Cholesky factorization,a noise whitening technique is developed to turn the non-white noise back to white *** further analyze the necessary conditions of identifiability of channel *** are performed to show the superiority of the proposed method.

The zonal shift of SST warming patterns associated with the eastern Pacific （EP） and central Pacific （CP） El Ni（n）o leads to a significant contrast in MJO strength over the Maritime *** MJO circulation tends to be stronger over the Maritime Continent during the mature phase （autumnwinter） of CP El Ni（n）o than of EP El Ni（n）*** on a new MJO kinetic energy （KE） budget equation,in which the effects of mean flow and high-frequency disturbances on the MJO are separated,we found that the low-level MJO gains more KE from the background mean flow during CP El Ni（n）o events,although at the same time the enhanced MJO transfers more KE to high-frequency *** the three-dimensional circulation anomalies,the low-level convergence and cyclonic anomalies associated with upward anomalies of the Walker circulation over the Maritime Continent play leading roles in inducing the enhanced barotropic energy conversion from mean flow to MJO during CP El Ni（n）o events relative to EP El Ni（n）o *** more vigorous MJO with strengthened vertical motion and heating anomalies at the upper troposphere can maintain its amplitude through the baroclinic energy conversion from the MJO available potential energy to *** the low-tomid tropospheric barotropic energy conversion from mean flow to MJO and upper-level baroclinic energy conversion contribute positively to the enhanced MJO over the Maritime Continent during CP El Ni（n）o years compared to during EP El Ni（n）o years.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome-associated coronavirus 2 is a major global health issue and is driving the need for new *** surface spike protein,which plays a central role in virus infection,is currently the target for vaccines and neutralizing *** emergence of novel variants with multiple mutations in the spike protein may reduce the effectiveness of neutralizing antibodies by altering the binding activity of the protein with angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2).To understand the impact of spike protein mutations on the binding interactions required for virus infection and the effectiveness of neutralizing monoclonal antibody(mAb)therapies,the binding activities of the original spike protein receptor binding domain(RBD)sequence and the reported spike protein variants were investigated using surface plasmon *** addition,the interactions of the ACE2 receptor,an antispike mAb(mAb1),a neutralizing mAb(mAb2),the original spike RBD sequence,and mutants D614G,N501Y,N439K,Y453F,and E484K were *** to the original RBD,the Y453F and N501Y mutants displayed a significant increase in ACE2 binding affinity,whereas D614G had a substantial reduction in binding *** mAb-RBD mutant proteins displayed a reduction in binding affinities relative to the original RBD,except for the E484K-mAb1 *** potential neutralizing capability of mAb1 and mAb2 was ***,mAb1 failed to inhibit the ACE2-RBD interaction while mAb2 inhibited the ACE2-RBD interactions for all RBD mutants,except mutant E484K,which only displayed partial blocking.

A kind of small band-gap conjugated polymers-poly (pyrrolyl methines) and their precursors-(poly pyrrolyl methanes) have been synthesized by a simple method and characterized by (HNMR)-H-1, FT-IR, TGA and UV-Vis. These polymers can be dissolved in high polar solvents such as DMSO, DMF or NMP. The results reveals that the band-gap of the synthesized conjugated polymers are in the range of 0.96similar to1.14 eV and they all belong to the small band-gap polymers. The conductivity of doped products with iodine is in the range of semiconductor.

The drop structure will fail as a result of local scoring *** paper discusses the influence of a drop structures' upstream slope to local *** equations of the scour hole were developed by laboratory experiment,theoretical assumptions,and regression *** equations include the maximum scour depth and length during the scouring period,the maximum equilibrium scour depth and length,and the unit width scour *** four channel slopes(0%,2%,4%,and 6%) before the drop structure has been included in the analysis.A series of laboratory experiments were conducted to obtain 48 groups of experiments and 419 scour hole profiles during the scouring *** material used in the scour section is uniform non-cohesive and with a median diameter of d50 = 0.5 *** results have been used to develop empirical equations via regression analysis to determine the coefficients of theoretical *** high correlation coefficient indicates that the equations developed in this study are suitable for verifying the characteristics of a scour hole at drop structure in the sloped *** semi-empirical equation is more accurate than the empirical *** to a horizontal channel,a sloped channel tends to cause a greater equilibriummaximum scour length,shorter equilibrium maximum scour depth,and faster unit-wide scour rate.
