Use of pre-, pro- and synbiotics in patients with acute pancreatitis:A meta-analysis

AIM: To assess the clinical outcomes of pre-, pro-and synbiotics therapy in patients with acute pancreatitis. METHODS: The databases including Medline, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science and Chinese Biomedicine Database were searched for all relevant randomized controlled trials that studied the effects of pre-, pro- or synbiotics in patients with acute pancreatitis. Main outcome measures were postoperative infections, pancreatic infections, multiple organ failure (MOF), systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), length of hospital stay, antibiotic therapy and mortality. RESULTS: Seven randomized studies with 559 acute pancreatic patients were included. Pre-, pro-or synbiot-ics treatment showed no influence on the incidence of postoperative infections [odds ratios (OR) 0.30, 95% conf idence interval (CI): 0.09-1.02, P = 0.05], pancre- atic infection (OR 0.50, 95% CI: 0.12-2.17, P = 0.36), MOF (OR 0.88, 95% CI: 0.35-2.21, P = 0.79) and SIRS (OR 0.78, 95% CI: 0.20-2.98, P = 0.71). There were also no signif icant differences in the length of antibiotic therapy (OR 0.75, 95% CI: 0.50-1.14, P = 0.18) and the mortality (OR 0.75, 95% CI: 0.25-2.24, P = 0.61). However, Pre-, pro-or synbiotics treatment was associ- ated with a reduced length of hospital stay (OR -3.87, 95% CI: -6.20 to -1.54, P = 0.001). When stratifying for the severity of acute pancreatitis, the main results were similar. CONCluSION: Pre-, pro-or synbiotics treatment shows no significant influence on patients with acute pancreatitis. There is a lack of evidence to support the use of probiotics/synbiotics in this area.

AIM： To investigate the damaging effect of high-intensity focused ultrasound （HIFU） on cancer cells and the inhibitory effect on tumor growth. METHODS： Hurine H22 hepatic cancer cells were treated with HIFU at the same intensity for different lengths of time and at different intensities for the same length oftime in vitro, the dead cancer cells were determined by trypan blue staining. Two groups of cancer cells treated with HIFU at the lowest and highest intensity were inoculated into mice. Tumor masses were removed and weighed after 2 wk, tumor growth in each group was confirmed pathologically.RESULTS： The death rate of cancer cells treated with HIFU at 1 000 W/cm^2 for 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8, and 12 s was 3.11±1.21%, 13.37±2.56%, 38.84±3.68%, 47.22±5.76%,87.55±7.32%, and 94.33±8.11%, respectively. A positive relationship between the death rates of cancer cells and the length of HIFU treatment time was found （r = 0.96,P〈0.01）. The death rate of cancer cells treated with HIFU at the intensity of 100, 200, 400, 600, 800, and 1 000 W/cm^2 for 8 s was 26.31±3.26%, 31.00±3.87%, 41.97±5.86%,72.23±8.12%, 94.90±8.67%, and 99.30±9.18%, respectively. A positive relationship between the death rates of cancer cells and the intensities of HIFU treatment was confirmed （r= 0.98, P〈0.01）. The cancer cells treated with HIFU at 1 000 W/cm^2 for 8 s were inoculated intomice ed into. The tumor inhibitory rate was 90.35% compared to the control （P〈0.01）. In the experimental group inoculated with the cancer cells treated with HIFU at 1 000 W/cm^2 for 0.5 s, the tumor inhibitory rate was 22.9% （P〈0.01）. By pathological examination, tumor growth was confirmed in 8 out of 14 mice （57.14%, 8/14） inoculated with the cancer cells treated with HIFU at 1 000 W/cm^2 for 8 s, which was significantly lower than that in the control （100%, 15/15, P〈O.05）.CONCluSION： HIFU is effective on killing or damage of H22 hepatic cancer cells in vitro and on inhibiting tumor growth in mice ex vivo.

Expression of miRNA-140 in Chondrocytes and Synovial Fluid of Knee Joints in Patients with Osteoarthritis

Objective To investigate the expression of miRNA-140 in chondrocytes and synovial fluid of osteoarthritis(OA) patients, and explore the relationship between the miRNA-140 expression and OA severity. Methods This study enrolled 30 OA patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty for chondrocytes sampling and 30 OA patients who underwent intra-articular injection for synovial fluid sampling. All OA patients were grouped into mild [Kellgren and Lawrence(KL) grade 1-2], moderate(KL grade 3) and severe(KL grade 4), with 10 in each subgroups for each sampling purposes. 7 non-OA patients and 10 patients with knee injury were collected for cartilage and synovial fluid sampling respectively as control groups. Chondrocytes were isolated from the cartilage tissue and cultured in vitro. Quantitative real time PCR for miRNA-140 in chondrocytes and synovial fluid were performed, and the U6 sn RNA was used as internal control. The expression difference of miRNA-140 among groups and correlation between the expression and the KL grade of OA were analysed using one-way ANOVA and Spearman test respectively. Results The expression of miRNA-140 in chondrocytes of knees in OA patients was reduced than that in normal knees, and the between-group difference was statistically significant(F=305.464, Pluid of both normal knees and OA knees, its relative expression level was reduced in synovial fluid of OA group compared with normal group, and the between-group difference was statistically significant as well(F=314.245, Pluid were negatively correlated with the KL grade of OA(r=-0.969, Plusion miRNA-140 could be detected in chondrocytes and synovial fluid of OA patients, and its expression was negatively correlated with the severity of OA.

CO_(2) electroreduction to formic acid/formate would contribute to alleviating the energy and climate *** work reports a Bi-based catalyst derived from the in-situ electroreduction of Bi_(2)O_(2)CO_(3) modified with iodine and pyrenyl-graphdiyne(PGDY)on the surface for efficient electroreduction of CO_(2) in acidic electrolyte,with a high partial current density of 98.71 mA·cm^(-2) and high Faradaic efficiency(FE)>90%over the potential range from^(-1).2 to-1.5 V *** hydrogen electrode(RHE),as well as the long-term operational stability over 240 h without degradation in H-type *** results and density function theory calculations show that the synergistic effect of surface iodine and PGDY is responsible for this active and extremely stable process of CO_(2) electroreduction via lowering the energy barriers for formation of*OCHO intermediate,suppressing the competitive HER by enhancing the concentration of both K+and CO_(2) at reaction interface,as well as preventing the dissolution and re-deposition of active Bi atoms on surface during catalytic *** work provides new insight into designing highly active and stable electrocatalysts for CO_(2) reduction.

Aiming at evaluating and predicting rapidly and accurately a high sensitivity receiver’s adaptability in complex electromagnetic environments,a novel testing and prediction method based on dual-channel multi-frequency is proposed to improve the traditional two-tone ***,two signal generators are used to generate signals at the radio frequency(RF)by frequency scanning,and then a rapid measurement at the intermediate frequency(IF)output port is carried out to obtain a huge amount of sample data for the subsequent ***,the IF output response data are modeled and analyzed to construct the linear and nonlinear response constraint equations in the frequency domain and prediction models in the power domain,which provide the theoretical criteria for interpreting and predicting electromagnetic susceptibility(EMS)of the *** experiment performed on a radar receiver confirms the reliability of the method proposed in this *** shows that the interference of each harmonic frequency and each order to the receiver can be identified and predicted with the sensitivity *** on this,fast and comprehensive evaluation and prediction of the receiver’s EMS in complex environment can be efficiently realized.

As a serious cardiovascular disease,atherosclerosis(AS)causes chronic inflammation and oxidative stress in the body and poses a threat to human ***-associated phospholipase A2(Lp-PLA2)is a member of the phospholipase A2(PLA2)family,and its elevated levels have been shown to contribute to ***-PLA2 is closely related to a variety of lipoproteins,and its role in promoting inflammatory responses and oxidative stress in AS is mainly achieved by hydrolyzing oxidized phosphatidylcholine(ox PC)to produce lysophosphatidylcholine(lyso PC).Moreover,macrophage apoptosis within plaque is promoted by localized Lp-PLA2 which also promotes plaque *** paper reviews those researches of Chinese medicine in treating AS via reducing Lp-PLA2 levels to guide future experimental studies and clinical applications related to AS.

Wearable electronics powered by flexible energy storage devices have captured global *** low-temperature conditions,unfortunately,solidification of flexible hydrogel electrolyte and decreased pseudo-capacity of these devices largely hamper their practical *** this study,photothermally-active Prussian blue(PB)was introduced onto poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)/polyacrylamide(PEDOT/PAM)networks to address the challenges of electrolyte solidification and degraded pseudo-capacitance for flexible all-in-one device at low *** as-constructed PB/PEDOT/PAM hydrogel device delivers stable electrochemical performance and remarkable mechanical property with 1652%***,this hydrogel device well retains its flexibility in cold environment with a freezing point below−30℃.The incorporation of PB extends the voltage range to 1.5 V as a single device,thus significantly enhancing the electrochemical performance as an all-inone integrated *** from the outstanding photo-to-thermal conversion ability of embedded PB nanocubes,the temperature of the assembled all-in-one PB/PEDOT/PAM device increased from^(−2)0 to 17.7℃ after solar-light irradiation for only 5 ***,the degraded pseudo-capacitance was subsequently boosted to 287.1%of its original capacitance at−20℃.This study establishes a connection between flexible all-solid-state hydrogel devices and photothermally enhanced pseudocapacitors in freezing environments,thereby expanding the potential applications of multi-functional pseudo-capacitors.
