Protective effect of sericin peptide against alcohol-induced gastric injury in mice

Background Sericin peptide （SP） has shown a powerful anti-oxidant property in a host of studies. The present study was designed to investigate the possible protective effects of SP against alcohol-induced gastric lesions in mice and to explore the potential mechanisms.Methods Animals were randomly divided into 5 groups： control, alcohol （56%, 14.2 ml/kg）, SP-treated mice （0.2, 0.4, 0.8 g/kg）. Mice were pretreated with SP before administering alcohol, the concentration of ethanol in serum and urine, the contents of malondialdehyde （MDA）, glutathione （GSH） and the glutathione peroxidase （GSH-PX）, catalase （CAT） and superoxide dismutase （SOD） activities in the gastric mucosa were measured, subsequently, the pathological evaluation of stomach was also observed.Results Of the animals pre-treated with SP （0.4, 0.8 g/kg）, the concentration of ethanol in serum was significantly decreased, while increased in urine as compared to the alcohol-administered alone animals. Alcohol administration caused severe gastric damage as indicated by markedly increased MDA levels and decreased antioxidants, such as reduced GSH, GSH-PX and SOD in the gastric tissue while the CAT activity was not altered. On SP administration there was a reversal in these values towards normal. Histopathological studies confirmed the beneficial role of SP, which was in accordance with the biochemical parameters.Conclusions SP could protect gastric mucosa from alcohol-induced mucosal injury. These gastroprotective effects might be due to increasing ‘first-pass metabolism＇ in the stomach and hastening ethanol elimination directly through the urine. SP might also play an important role in the protection of the structure and function of gastric mitochondria, at least partly based on their anti-oxidant effect.

The intraplatform shoal dolomite of the Middle Permian Qixia Formation is currently considered the key target of hydrocarbon exploration in the central Sichuan Basin. To systematically investigate the origin of the stratabound facies-controlled porous dolomites of the Qixia Formation, integrated petrography,logging and seismic analysis were carried out in this work. The results are as following:（1） the dolomite reservoir is universal in the central Sichuan Basin, and its distribution is controlled by intraplatform shoals, with multilayer superposition vertically. Thick massive dolostone may also develop along with the fault.（2） Three replaced dolomites and one dolomite cement were identified: very finely to finely crystalline, anhedral to subhedral dolomite（Rd1）; finely to medium crystalline, anhedral to subhedral dolomite（Rd2）; coarsely crystalline, subhedral to euhedral dolomite（Rd3） and coarsely crystalline saddle dolomite cement（Sd）. Rd2 and Rd3 are partly fabric-retentive, and preserve the original bioclastic ghosts. Sd shows wavy extinction, filled in the breccia veins.（3） The U-Pb dating and homogenization temperatures results indicate that the dolomite and Sd cement are associated with hydrothermal event during the Emeishan large igneous province. The δ13C,87Sr/86Sr, and seawater-like REEY patterns suggest that the dolomitization and Sd precipitation fluids originate from connate seawater heated by elevated heat-flow.（4） The ELIP triggered large scale thermal anomalies in the basin during the Dongwu movement period. The increased temperature and pressure drove the formation water in the intra-platform shoal facies and overcame the binding effect of Mg2+hydrate. Moreover, the deep hydrothermal fluid preferentially penetrated into the porous strata of shoal facies along the faults and fractures, mixed with formation water to some extent, and extensive dolomitization occurred. Background Immune-related hematocytopenia （IRH） is considered to be related with the production of autoantibody, as well as the activation of humoral immunity which is stimulated by B lymphocyte. This study aimed to observe the levels of various cytokines in the blood serum and the in situ active state of macrophage （Me） in the medullary hematopoietic microenvironment of IRH patients, and to probe into the immune mechanism and clinical significance of Me in hematopoietic cell injury. Methods ELISA is used to detect the IL-4, IL-6, IL-12, IL-17, and IFN-y levels in the peripheral blood serum of 376 patients in pre- and post-therapy. Cytochemistry and cell immunochemistry methods are used to observe the peroxidase （POX）, nonspecific esterase （NSE）, hemosiderin granules, and HLA-DR activity of Me in the bone marrow of patients. Immunofluorescence is used to observe the expression of hemocyte antihuman globulin IgG antibody, lymphocytes CD4 molecule, Me membrane Fcyllreceptor （FcyllR）, mannitose receptor （MR）, IFN-y, ICAM-1, IL-12, and IL-17A and the formation mechanism of antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity （ADCC） hematopoietic cell islands （HI） in the medullary hematopoietic microenvironment of patients. Glucocorticoid is used for treatment on the basis of anti-infection therapy, and gamma globulin stoss therapy is used for the appearance of ADCC-type HI or serious Me bloodthirsty phenomenon; if necessary, association of Cyclosporine A （CsA） should be used and chalybeate should be supplemented. Results In the patient group, the levels of IL-4, IL-6, IL-12, IL-17, and IFN-y were increased. After treatment, the cytokine levels gradually became normal. The activated Me in the marrow highly expressed NSE and POX, and Me swallowed more hemosiderin particles, but the iron in the cytoplasm of immature erythrocytes decreased. Objective:To investigate the high risk factors and methods of prevention and treatment of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) in assisted reproductive techniques (ART).Methods: Clinical data of 93 cycles of OHSS patients after IVF-ET treatment from Apr. 1989to Oct. 2002 were analyzed ***: (1) A large number of follicles stimulated, luteal phase support with HCG and pregnancy were high risk factors to induce OHSS. (2) Longer disease process, more severe symptoms and more albumins used for treatment of OHSS were commonoy observed in pregnant patients with OHSS compared with non-pregnant ones. (3) Vena dropping human serum albumin is one of the most successful treatment as plasma expanders through restoration of colloid osmotic pressure; paracentesis is necessary for critical OHSS patients with severe ascites and hydrothorax;(4) Occasionally therapeutic abortion of an early gestation may be an only way for lifesaving when all other methods have ***: OHSS is a serious complication of controlled ovarian hyperstimulation. Proper prevention and treatment of OHSS are important for patient safety in ART.

Relieving throat and opening orifice acupuncture therapy for the post-stroke dysphagia

Objectives: To observe the effectiveness of acupuncture therapy for relieving throat and opening orifice on dysphagia due to different brain infarct ***: According to the random number table, 128 patients with post-stroke dysphagia were divided into group A(63 cases, intervention with deglutition training and acupuncture) and group B(65 cases,intervention with simple deglutition training). The conventional treatment and deglutition rehabilitation training in neurology department were used in the two groups. In group B, according to patient's condition, the rehabilitation trainings, such as respiration and neck movement range were used *** group A, on the base of deglutition training, acupuncture therapy for relieving throat and opening orifice was supplemented. The acupoints included Sìshéncōng(四神聪EX HN 1),Bāihuì(百会GV 20), Tàiyang(太阳EX-HN5) bilateral, Fēngchi(风池GB 20) bilateral and Shésānzhēn(舌三针).Electrostimulator was attached on EX-HN 1, bilateral GB 20 and Shesanzhen(舌三针). Needles were retained for 30 min in each treatment. The treatment was given once a day, 5 treatments a week and the treatment for 3 weeks as 1 course. After 6 weeks of treatment, the deglutition ability scale developed by Fujishima Ichiro was adopted to determine the therapeutic effects and observe the score increase for dysphagia related to brain infarct sites before and after ***: In assessment after 6-week treatment, the improvements of deglutition ability were different corresponding to different brain infarct sites in group A. Specially, the improvements in the patients with dysphagia related to cerebral hemisphere infarction in group A were better than group B(8.68 ±1.12 vs7.32 ±0.91, P0.05). Brain-derived neurotrophic factor is a key factor in stress adaptation and avoidance of a social stress behavioral *** studies have shown that brain-derived neurotrophic factor expression in stressed mice is brain region–specific,particularly involving the corticolimbic system,including the ventral tegmental area,nucleus accumbens,prefrontal cortex,amygdala,and *** how brain-derived neurotrophic factor participates in stress processing in different brain regions will deepen our understanding of social stress *** this review,we discuss the expression and regulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor in stress-sensitive brain regions closely related to the pathophysiology of *** focused on associated molecular pathways and neural circuits,with special attention to the brain-derived neurotrophic factor–tropomyosin receptor kinase B signaling pathway and the ventral tegmental area–nucleus accumbens dopamine *** determined that stress-induced alterations in brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels are likely related to the nature,severity,and duration of stress,especially in the above-mentioned brain regions of the corticolimbic ***,BDNF might be a biological indicator regulating stress-related processes in various brain regions.
