Methods for Integrating Energy Consumption and Environmental Impact Considerations into the Production Operation of Machining Processes

Energy consumption and environmental impact considerations of machining processes are viewed as important issues for the global trends towards sustainable manufacturing. The existing research of reducing energy consumption and environmental impacts of machining processes greatly focuses on design and planning activities, but is reasonably sparse for production operation activities. This paper explores a systematic methodology that incorporates energy consumption and environmental impact considerations into the production operation of machining processes. Firstly, the framework of the methodology is proposed to establish the generic procedures for integrating the above considerations in production operation activities. As the two key issues of the framework, the profile index value matrix is determined by valuing the individual quantity of energy consumption and environmental impacts of machining each job on each machine, and the multi-criteria models are constructed by the operational methods. Furthermore, with the guideline of the framework, the specific formulations are modeled by two sub-models for the parallel machine scheduling problem, in which makespan and energy consumption are the optimizing objectives as well as the constraints of environmental impact considerations. The specific formulations provide a practical method to integrate energy consumption and environmental impact considerations into the scheduling activity, and also can serve as a reference to other activities in the production operation. The case study for a batch of jobs, including seven kinds of gears in the machining shop floor, is presented to demonstrate the application of the specific formulations of the methodology. The proposed methodology provides potential opportunities for reducing energy consumption and environmental impacts in machining processes, and helps production managers in decision-making on the issues of energy consumption and environmental impacts in the production operat

A Novel Intermediate Bus Converter Topology for Cutting Edge Data Center Applications

As new technologies emerge data centers and servers have established themselves as one of the largest and fastest growing consumers of *** switched capacitor converter topologies have some very attractive features,namely low reliance on magnetic components and high efficiency,several critical factors have prevented their adoption in high current data center *** family of converters proposed are novel intermediate bus converter that demonstrates the highest performance yet achieved for 48 V to 12 V conversion with up to 2.5 kW/in^(3) power density,higher than 99% peak efficiency,and 97.2% full load efficiency for 12 V/70 A *** reduction of voltage stress across the MOSFETs as well as extremely low reliance on magnetics are the key driving factors behind this high efficiency and power density,and are achieved without a sensitive resonant design or the usage of complex control technique.

Flying Capacitor Design Considerations for a 48-to-12 V,35 A Split-phase Dickson SC Converter

Switched-capacitor converters can deliver better performance,power density,and switch utilization compared to inductor-based power converters,but they suffer from current spikes during switching due to capacitor charge *** can be solved by methods such as split-phase control,which was developed to address charge redistribution in Dickson SC converters by controlling the charging and discharging of the circuit‟s flying capacitors,such that the equivalent branch voltages line up when the circuit switches ***,split-phase control is most effective at compensating for charge redistribution when all the circuit‟s flying capacitors are matched in capacitance *** between the capacitance values of the circuit flying capacitors may result in split-phase control not being able to fully compensate for charge redistribution,due to the different charge/discharge rates of the flying *** work presented in this paper provides an in-depth analysis of the sensitivity of the split-phase Dickson converter to mismatches in flying capacitor values,as well as discussions regarding the design considerations and prototype test results of a split-phase Dickson converter for high-current loads.

A new one-step synthesis of 3-hydroxymethylbenzofuran, based on intramolecular cyclization of 2- （methoxymethyl）-2-（2＇-methoxymethyl-4＇-methylphenyl）-butanone I under diluted hydrochloric acid in THF, was developed. The mechanism for this process was investigated via chemical equilibrium shift of tautomer in acidic conditions. The applicability of this new method was studied further in this paper.

Creep property and microstructural evolution of DD11 alloy under high temperature and low stress

In this paper,the interrupted and ruptured creep tests were carried out in a novel second generation single crystal superalloy named DD11 at 1100℃/130 *** alloy exhibited typical creep curve including primary,steady,and tertiary three creep *** microstructural evolution at different stages of the creep were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and transmission electron microscopy(TEM).The results show that theγ′phases transform into rafted structure at the early stage of the steady creep and keep stable during the steady creep *** the creep goes on,the rafted structure further coarsens and the topological inversion *** addition,at the primary creep,the dislocations mainly move in theγmatrix and pile up in theγ/γ′interface since the matrix channels widen *** formation of the regular interfacial dislocation networks occurs at the early stage of the steady *** the low stress,the dominated deformation mechanism during steady creep stage is the climbing of the〈010〉type edge ***,the effect of the deformation mechanism on creep property was discussed in detail.

Directional Analysis of the Chaotic Superlattice around the Equilibrium Point in the Phase Space

The recently proposed method of our research group named as directional Lyapunov exponents（DLEs） is presented. Then, DLEs are used to analyze the eigenstructure of the output phase space around the equilibrium points. Finally, the impacts of the superlattice parameter changes on the characteristics of the output chaotic signal are analyzed. The experimental results show that parameter changes of the superlattice will affect the eigenstructure around the equilibrium points in the output phase space, and DLEs are sensitive to these changes.
