BACKGROUND： Nerve growth factor （NGF） attenuates glutamate-induced injury to hippocampal neurons, and the human tumor suppressor gene phosphatase and tensin homologue deleted on chromosome 10 （PTEN） promotes neuronal apoptosis. However, effects of PTEN in NGF-mediated neuroprotection against glutamate excitotoxicity remain poorly understood. OBJECTIVE： To investigate the relationship between NGF inhibition of glutamate-induced injury and PTEN. DESIGN, TIME AND SE＇I＇rlNG： The randomized, controlled, in vitro study was performed at the Department of Pathophysiology, Medical School of Nantong University, China from October 2007 to March 2008. MATERIALS： Glutamate, NGF, 4, 6-diamidino-2-phenyl-indolediacetate, 3-[4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]- 2, 5-diphenyl tetrazoliumbromide （M-I-F）, and lactate dehydrogenase kit （Sigma, USA）, fluorescence microscope and inverted phase contrast microscope （Olympus, Japan） were used in this study. METHODS： Hippocampal neurons were obtained from newborn （〈 24 hours） Sprague Dawley rats and cultured for 7 days. The control group was not treated with any intervention factor, the glutamate group was treated with glutamate （0.2 mmol/L）, and NGF groups were treated with NGF （10, 50, 100, and 200 μg/L, respectively） prior to glutamate treatment. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： The MTT and lactate dehydrogenase assays were applied to evaluate viability of hippocampal neurons. Morphological changes in hippocampal neurons were observed using an inverted phase-contrast microscope, and neuronal apoptosis was detected by 4, 6-diamidino-2- phenyl-indolediacetate staining. PTEN mRNA and protein expression were measured by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blot analysis, respectively. RESULTS： Glutamate （0.2 mmol/L） induced significantly decreased neuronal viability and greater lactate dehydrogenase efflux compared with the control group （P 〈 0.01）. Inhibition of TYRO3/Akt signaling participates in hypoxic injury in hippocampal neurons

In this study, we investigated the role of the TYRO3/Akt signaling pathway in hypoxic injury to hippocampal neurons. 3-（4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl）-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay showed that hypoxia inhibited the proliferation and viability of hippocampal neurons. Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated d UTP nick end labeling assay demonstrated that hypoxia induced neuronal apoptosis in a time-dependent manner, with a greater number of apoptotic cells with longer hypoxic exposure. Immunofluorescence labeling revealed that hypoxia suppressed TYRO3 expression. Western blot assay showed that hypoxia decreased Akt phosphorylation levels in a time-dependent manner. Taken together, these findings suggest that hypoxia inhibits the proliferation of hippocampal neurons and promotes apoptosis, and that the inhibition of the TYRO3/Akt signaling pathway plays an important role in hypoxia-induced neuronal injury.

TEMPERATURE-DRIVEN SURFACE MORPHOLOGY EVOLUTION OF POLY(3-HYDROXYBUTYRATE) SINGLE LAYER AND POLY(3-HYDROXYBUTYRATE)/POLY(VINYL PHENOL) BILAYER ON Si WAFERS

The specular and off-specular X-ray reflectivities were efficiently employed to study the evolution of surface morphology as a function of temperature in a single layer of poly（3-hydroxybutyrate）（PHB） and a bilayer of PHB/poly（vinyl phenol）（PVPh） on Si substrates. The results indicate that the changes of thickness and surface roughness caused by pre-melting of PHB crystals are not obvious for the single layer, whereas the surface roughness of the PHB layer and the intensity of the off-specular X-ray reflectivity for the bilayer exhibit a remarkable non-monotonic change in the temperature range of 100-150℃; the roughness parameter evaluated by the specular X-ray reflectivity reaches its maximum at 120℃. The interaction at the interface between PVPh and PHB certainly contributes to the non-monotonic changes. Such interaction also affects the crystallization and melting behavior of PHB thin film greatly. The crystallization of PHB thin film is inhibited even on the glassy surface of PVPh sublayer, In the melting process, the PHB crystals on PVPh sublayer feature a threesection melting curve separated by a plateau region of 120-140℃.

“Cutting effect” of organoclay platelets in compatibilizing immiscible polypropylene/polystyrene blends

In this work, polypropylene (PP)/polystyrene (PS) blends with different organoclay concentrations were prepared via melt compounding. Differing from the results of previous reports, the organoclay platelets are mostly located in the dispersed PS phase instead of the interface. The dimensions of the dispersed PS droplets are greatly reduced and apparent compatibilization effect still exists, which cannot be explained by the traditional compatibilization mechanism. A novel compatibilization mecha- nism, "cutting" to apparently compatibilize the immiscible PP/PS blends was proposed. The organoclay platelets tend to form a special "knife-like structure" in the PS domain under the shear stress of the continuous PP phase during compounding. The "clay knife" can split the dispersed PS domain apart and lead to the dramatic reduction of the dispersed domain size.

COMPARATIVE STUDY OF INTERNATIONAL CARRIAGE OF GOODS BY RAILWAY BETWEEN CIM AND SMGS

China and some of its trade partners in Western Europe apply different legal regimes for international carriage of goods by railway -- respectively Agreement on International Railway Freight Transportation （SMGS） and Uniform Rules Concerning the Contract of International Carriage of Goods by Rail （CIM）. For transportation of goods by railway between China and Western Europe both the CIM and the SMGS are often applicable. China＇s initiative ＂the Belt and Road＂ promotes development of railway transport in Eurasia and creates new incentives for comparative study between those two international legal systems. This article provides a brief historical outline of comparative studies between the CIM and SMGS. This article also purports to show that some similarities and differences between the two regimes might be better understood from the perspective of comparative legal history. Taking into account inter alia the common origin of the current versions of the CIM and SMGS in the 4th revision of the CIM of 1933, differences and similarities between two legal regimes have been analysed with regard to the following topics： the scope of application of the CIM and SMGS, the nature of the carrier＇s liability under the CIM and SMGS; exclusivity of the CIM, exclusivity of the contract of carriage under the SMGS, period of responsibility; persons for whom the carder is liable.

Analysis of insecticide thiacloprid by ion chromatography combined with online photochemical derivatisation and fluorescence detection in water samples

This study describes a novel application of ion chromatography coupled with post-column photochemically induced fluorimetry derivatisation in alkaline medium and fluorescence detection （IC-hv-FD） for the determination of neonicotinoid pesticide, thiacloprid. In an aqueous medium, this compound showed fluorescence with an excitation maximum at 236 nm and an emission maximum at 353 nm. The 10 mmol/L NaOH with 10% （v/v） acetonitrile solution pumped at flow rate of 1.0 mL/min was used for the chromatographic elution to isocratically separate thiacloprid on an Ion Pac~＇ AS 11 （250 mm x 4 mm i.d; 13 p^m particle size, Dionex） anion-exchange column. The linear concentration range of application was 0.04-10.0 mg]L, with a relative standard deviation （RSD, n = 7） of 1.7% （for a level of 2.0 mg/L） and detection limit （LOD, SiN = 3） of 9.9 p^g]L. The procedure was applied with satisfactory results to the analysis of thiacloprid in ground and lake water samples. Pesticide average spiked recoveries ran^ed between 95.5% and 114.0%.

Enhanced electrochemical property of FePO_4-coated LiNi_(0.5)Mn_(1.5)O_4 as cathode materials for Li-ion battery

Pristine LiNi0.5Mnl.5O4 and FePO4-coated one with Fd-3m space groups were prepared by a sol-gel method. The structure and performance were studied by X-ray diffraction （XRD） rietveld refinement, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, high resolution transmission electron microscopy （HRTEM）, energy dispersive spectrometer （EDS） mapping, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy （EIS） and charge- discharge tests, respectively. The lattice parameters of all samples almost remain the same from the Rietveld refinement, revealing that the crystallographic structure has no obvious difference between pris- tine LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 and FePO4-coated one. All materials show similar morphologies with uniform particle distribution with small particle size, and FePO4 coating does not affect the morphology of LiNi0.5Mnl05O 4 material. EDS mapping and HRTEM show that FePO4 may be successfully wrapped around the surfaces of ***.s04 particles, and provides an effective coating layer between the electrolyte and the surface of LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 particles. FePO4 （1 wt%）-coated ***.504 cathode shows the highest discharge capac- ity at high rate （2 C） among all samples. After 80 cycles, the reversible discharge capacity of FePO4 （1 wt%） coated LiNi0.5Mn0.5O4 is 117 mAh g^-1, but the pristine one only has 50 mAh g^-1. FeP04 coating is an effec- tive and controllable way to stabilize the LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4/electrolyte interface, and avoids the direct con- tact between LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 powders and electrolyte, then suppresses the side reactions and enhances the electrochemical performance of the LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4.

Epoxy resins are cross-linked polymeric materials with typically low thermal ***,the introduction of rigid groups into epoxy resins is the main method to improve their intrinsic thermal *** researchers explored the relationship between the flexible chains of epoxy monomers and the thermal conductivity of the modified epoxy resins(MEP).The effect of flexible chain length on the introduction of rigid groups into the cross-linked structure of epoxy is worth investigating,which is of great significance for the improvement of thermal conductivity of polymers and related *** prepared a small molecule liquid crystal(SMLC)containing a long flexible chain via a simple synthesis reaction,and introduced rigid mesocrystalline units into the epoxy resin via a curing *** high-temperature curing,the introduced mesocrystalline units underwent orientational stacking and were immobilized within the *** and TGA tests showed that the ordering within the modified epoxy resin was increased,which improved the thermal conductivity of the epoxy ***,during the above process,the flexible chains of SMLC provide space for the biphenyl groups to align and therefore affect the thermal conductivity of the ***,the MEP-Ⅵcured with SMLC-Ⅵcontaining six carbon atoms in the flexible chain has the highest thermal conductivity of 0.40W·m^(-1)·K^(-1),which is 125%of the thermal conductivity of SMLC-IV of 0.32 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1),111%of the thermal conductivity of SMLC-Ⅷof 0.36W·m^(-1)·K^(-1),and 182%of the thermal conductivity of pure epoxy of 0.22 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1).The introduction of appropriate length flexible chains for SMLC promotes the stacking of rigid groups within the resin while reducing the occurrence of chain *** study will provide new ideas for the enhancement of thermal conductivity of cross-linked polymeric materials.
