In the Amazon region,several residues that have been misused can serve as feedstocks for biochar production with the aim of recovering soils contaminated by heavy ***,these biochars need to be firstly tested for their adsorption capacity as well as their physicochemical attributes prior to field ***,this study aimed to characterize and evaluate the adsorption capacities of Cd^(2+) and Cu^(2+) of biochars produced from acai(BA),Brazil nut(BN),and palm kernel cake(BK)*** were produced by slow pyrolysis at four different temperatures(400,500,600,and 700℃).The physicochemical properties of the biochars,such as cation exchange capacity,ash,recalcitrance index,and aromaticity were enhanced with increased pyrolysis *** adsorption capacities of Cd^(2+) and Cu^(2+) showed high correlations with the physicochemical properties of biochar,indicating the importance of these characteristics in the adsorption ***,the adsorption of Cd^(2+) and Cu^(2+) also increased with the increase in the pyrolysis *** a competitive system,Cd^(2+)exhibited higher adsorption capacity than Cu^(2+) for all *** general,BN showed the highest adsorption capacity,followed by BK and *** produced from the Amazonian residues have the potential to improve soil quality when used as amendments in the recovery of soils contaminated with Cd and Cu,representing an environmentally sound technology for the reuse of these residues.

Modelling the role of ground-true riparian vegetation for providing regulating services in a Mediterranean watershed

Intensive agricultural and industrial activities are often considered major sources of water ***,riparian vegetation(RV)is increasingly being promoted as a solution to balance the potentially adverse effects that agriculture may have on water ***,existing RV is often overlook in recent modelling efforts,failing to capture the current amount of ecosystem services ***,we used the Soil and Water Assessment Tool ecohydrological model to simulate the influence of ground-true RV on i)nutrient(nitrate and total phosphorus)and sediment exports from agricultural areas and ii)its effect for in-stream *** results are further compared against a set of hypothetical scenarios of different RV widths and different *** results point to a great rele-vance of existing RV in controlling in-stream concentration of sediments and nutrients where pressure from agriculture is highest,preventing them to surpass limits set in the EU Water Framework *** the other hand,in areas with industry discharges,the role of RV is limited and model results suggest that restoring RV would have limited *** illustrate how existing RV may already provide strong but not acknowledged water quality regulation services,how these services can differ substantially between nearby streams,and that effective strategies to improve water quality using RV must acknowledge existing patterns of vegetation,land use and contamination sources.

Tracheobronchial Polyflex stents for the management of benign refractory hypopharyngeal strictures

探讨沙库巴曲缬沙坦对老年高血压合并射血分数保留心力衰竭患者血清胱抑素C和半乳糖凝集素-3的影响。选取2020年1月至2022年10月于本院就诊的罹患老年高血压合并射血分数保留心力衰竭患者126例,将患者分为沙库巴曲缬沙坦组和缬沙坦组,分别治疗3个月。采用24 h动态血压评估患者治疗前后血压情况,心脏彩超评估心功能情况,并观察患者治疗前后血清胱抑素C和半乳糖凝集素-3水平的变化。本研究纳入的高血压合并射血分数保留心力衰竭的老年患者中,两组间在治疗前血压、心功能及血清胱抑素C和半乳糖凝集素-3水平均无明显差异(P>0.05)。给予沙库巴曲缬沙坦或缬沙坦治疗后,与治疗前基线水平相比,两组患者24 h平均收缩压及24 h平均舒张压均明显下降,左室射血分数明显升高,且血清胱抑素C和半乳糖凝集素-3水平较治疗前亦有明显降低(P<0.05)。与缬沙坦组相比,沙库巴曲缬沙坦组患者血压下降更明显(P<0.05),左室射血分数更高(P<0.01),血清胱抑素C和半乳糖凝集素-3水平更低(P<0.05)。本研究结果提示,沙库巴曲缬沙坦可以在有效降低血压的同时,更好地改善老年高血压合并射血分数保留心力衰竭患者的心功能和病理性重构指标。未来需要更大规模的多中心前瞻性研究证明沙库巴曲缬沙坦在改善老年高血压合并射血分数保留心力衰竭患者心血管事件及预后中的确切作用。

天然植被在全球碳循环和碳储存中扮演着重要角色。巴西大草原塞拉多保护区(Cerrado)因自身固有特性被认为是一个碳汇。本研究的目的是评估具有不同保护状况的三个地区,控制区(法定保护区)、保护区(PA)和非保护区(Non-PA)地上生物量与生物多样性关系的变化。这三个被研究的地区都位于巴西米纳斯吉拉斯州(Minas Gerais)北部。根据森林清查资料,该研究对地上碳储量进行了估算,并测量了每个地区生物多样性指标的三个维度:功能性状优势度、分类学多样性和功能多样性。对物种的以下功能性状进行了评价:木材密度、最大直径和种子大小。通过建立广义线性模型,评估了碳储量、群落加权平均值、物种丰富度和多样性以及功能多样性指数在不同地区间的差异。研究结果表明,未受保护的地区碳储量、物种丰富度、物种多样性、功能丰富度和功能分散度均较低,而保护区和非保护区群落加权平均值最大直径和种子大小均低于法定保护区。广义线性模型结果表明,碳储量与物种和功能丰富度指数在同一地区内和不同地区间存在相关性,因此,物种丰富度可以作为功能丰富度和碳储量的替代指标。物种丰富度和群落加权平均值最大直径对碳储量有正向影响,功能分散度对碳储量有负向影响。功能丰富度、物种多样性和群落加权平均值种子大小出现在最佳模型中,但对碳储量没有显著的直接影响。因此,我们的结论是,在缺乏保护的巴西塞拉多地区会降低物种丰富度和碳储量。

Polymorphisms of folate metabolism genes in patients with cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma

AIM To evaluated the association of the risk factors and polymorphisms in MTHFR C677 T, MTHFR A1298 C, MTR A2756 G and MTRR A66 G *** Patients with cirrhosis(n = 116), hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)(n = 71) and controls(n = 356) were included. Polymerase chain reaction followed by enzymatic digestion and allelic discrimination technique real-time PCR techniques were used for analysis. MINITAB-14.0and SNPstats were utilized for statistical analysis. RESULTS Showed that age ≥ 46 years(OR = 10.31; 95%CI: 5.66-18.76; P < 0.001) and smoking(OR = 0.47; 95%CI: 0.28-0.78; P = 0.003) were associated with cirrhosis. Age ≥ 46 years(OR = 16.36; 95%CI: 6.68-40.05; P < 0.001) and alcohol habit(OR = 2.01; 95%CI: 1.03-3.89; P = 0.039) were associated with HCC. MTHFR A1298 C in codominant model(OR = 3.37; 95%CI: 1.52-7.50; P = 0.014), recessive model(OR = 3.04; 95%CI: 1.43-6.47; P = 0.0051) and additive model(OR = 1.71; 95%CI: 1.16-2.52; P = 0.0072) was associated with HCC, as well as MTR A2756 G in the additive model(OR = 1.68; 95%CI: 1.01-2.77; P = 0.047), and MTRR A66 G in the codominant model(OR = 3.26; 95%CI: 1.54-6.87; P < 0.001), dominant model(OR = 2.55; 95%CI: 1.24-5.25; P = 0.007) and overdominant model(OR = 3.05; 95%CI: 1.66-5.62; P < 0.001). MTR A2756 G in the additive model(OR = 1.54; 95%CI: 1.02-2.33; P = 0.042) and smokers who presented at least one polymorphic allele for MTRR A66G(OR = 1.71; 95%CI: 0.77-3.82; P = 0.0051) showed increased risk for cirrhosis. There was no association between clinical parameters and polymorphisms. CONCLUSION Age ≥ 46 years, alcohol habit and MTR A2756 G, MTHFR A1298 C and MTRR A66 G polymorphisms are associated with an increased risk of HCC development; age ≥ 46 years, tobacco habit and the MTR A2756 G polymorphism are associated with cirrhosis.

Geoprocessing Applied in the Estimate of Infiltration and Surface Runoff in HPP’s Contribution Watershed

The knowledge of the hydrological regime contributes to the prediction of periods of higher or lower water supply as a function of the frequency and volume of rainfall in relation to the pedological, land cover, and land use conditions. This work aims at evaluating the spatio-temporal variability of the infiltration and runoff potential of an area formed by 4 sub-basins tributary to the São Marcos River in Cristalina (GO). The SCS/NRCS-USDA (2004) method was used, using geoprocessing resources, considering soils in dry, semi-humid and humid conditions. The estimates indicate that rainfall with an average of 6.83 mm, in the September-October transition, in the face of soils in the dry condition does not provide surface runoff. Thus, the variability of pedological characteristics associated with the various conditions of coverage and land use indicates that even the areas with lower infiltration potential begin to contribute effectively with their respective channels in the transition from October to November, when rainfall events are more frequent and significant, and the soils are already in conditions of greater humidity.

Mycelial Growth of Pleurotus Spp in Se-Enriched Culture Media

Selenium (Se) is an essential element to human. However, this element can be in low content in soil of some regions. Se deficiency may cause Keshan disease, thyroid dysfunction and osteoarthritis. The Se-enriched cereals are an interesting way to prevent these diseases. But, recent studies have shown that Se-enriched mushrooms are a better Se source. This occurs due to the high capacity of the fungi to absorb and transform the inorganic Se to organic forms, which are more bioavailable. Pleurotus ostreatus and Pleurotus eryngii are mushrooms species worldwide consumed and able to Se bioaccumulate. However, depending on the level of this element, it can be toxic for the fungus. Here we showed that the presence of the Se in culture medium decreases fungal growth rate, hyphae diameter and septum distance and causes alteration in color of colony. A garlic strong smell was directly proportional to Se level. P. eryngii was more tolerant to Se than P. ostreatus. So, it is important to screen this element level for Se-enriched mushroom production.

Excessive Moderator Band in a Female Cat’s Left Ventricle

This report describes a case of cardiomyopathy associated with excessive moderator bands in a 7 years old cat. In the cat echocardiography examination was observed cardiomegaly, decreased systolic function and thinning of the left ventricle wall. The electrocardiogram showed the occurrence of supraventricular tachycardia. The treatment was initiated with digoxin, furosemide and taurine supplementation, with an improvement of the clinical signs, however the animal died in a fall. The diagnosis of cardiomyopathy associated with excessive moderator band, was based on the multiple cardiac bunds which connect the septum to the free wall of the left ventricle observed in the cat necropsy.
