Risk factors for lymph node metastasis in superficial esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

In this editorial,we comment on the article by Wang et al published in the recent issue of the World Journal of Gastroenterology in 2023.We focused on identifying risk factors for lymph node metastasis(LNM)in superficial esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(SESCC)patients and how to construct a simple and reliable clinical prediction model to assess the risk of LNM in SESCC patients,thereby helping to guide the selection of an appropriate treatment plan.The current standard treatment for SESCC is radical esophagectomy with lymph node dissection.However,esophagectomy is associated with considerable morbidity and mortality.Endoscopic resection(ER)offers a safer and less invasive alternative to surgical resection and can enable the patient's quality of life to be maintained while providing a satisfactory outcome.However,since ER is a localized treatment that does not allow for lymph node dissection,the risk of LNM in SESCC limits the effectiveness of ER.Understanding LNM status can aid in determining whether patients with SESCC can be cured by ER without the need for additional esophagectomy.Previous studies have shown that tumor size,macroscopic type of tumor,degree of differentiation,depth of tumor invasion,and lymphovascular invasion are factors associated with LNM in patients with SESCC.In addition,tumor budding is commonly associated with LNM,recurrence,and distant metastasis,but this topic has been less covered in previous studies.By comprehensively evaluating the above risk factors for LNM,useful evidence can be obtained for doctors to select appropriate treatments for SESCC patients.

The Y-Ni alloy is a primary precursor for the preparation of high-performance La-Y-Ni-based hydrogen storage materials.However,it cannot be produced continuously at low cost,which limits the wide popularization and application of La-Y-Ni-based materials.In this paper,this problem was solved perfectly using electrochemical reduction of Y_(2)O_(3)in the LiF-YF_(3)system.It is found that the reversible reduction from Y^(3+)to Y on the W electrode takes only one step,namely a significant soluble-soluble reaction controlled by Y^(3+)diffusion throughout the melt.Four typical signals of square wave voltammetry(SWV)corresponding to different kinds of Y-Ni intermetallic compounds are observed in LiF-YF_(3)and LiF-YF_(3)-Y_(2)O_(3)melts,and reduction potential can become positive with the addition of Y_(2)O_(3),probably because of the formation of more complexes in the melts.Homogeneous Y-Ni alloy samples were produced continuously and prepared via galvanostatic electrolysis by using bargain-price raw material(Y_(2)O_(3))and setting the current density at 10 A/cm^(2)on the nickel electrode,before they were collected into a bottom receiver.A series of analyses including scanning electron microscopy-energy idspersive X-ray spectroscopy(SEM-EDS),X-ray diffraction(XRD),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS),demonstrate that concentration of yttrium in Y-Ni alloy is adjustable within the wide range of 44 wt%to 72 wt%by fine-tuning the electrolysis temperature(875-1060℃)in the LiF-YF_(3)system to ensure the optimal hydrogen storage performance and economic efficiency of La-Y-Ni-based hydrogen-storage materials.

To the Editor:Recently,we reviewed almost all the articles reporting surfeit locus containing the six sequenceunrelated housekeeping genes Surfeit 1 to Surfeit 6 since 1988 and one of the family members,surfeit 4(SURF 4)gene interested us.In this article,we will summarize the characteristics and protein localization of SURF4 gene,as well as its possible physiological functions and pathogenesis in various diseases and cancers,expecting to explore its clinical application values.

Arsenic(As)contamination poses an urgent environmental risk,and its removal from groundwater remains a challenge due to the lack of efficient adsorbents.Herein,a novel granular chitosan-titanium(CS-Ti)adsorbent was fabricated by the sol-gel method.Batch experiments show that As(V)adsorption on CS-Ti followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model,and the adsorption isotherm conformed to the Freundlich model with the correlation coefficient of 0.99.In situ FTIR spectra revealed that the CS-Ti adsorbent was composed of amorphous TiO_(x) and chitosan by forming C-O-Ti and N-Ti bonds,and the amorphous TiO_(x) was responsible for As(V)adsorption.Rapid small-scale column tests show that 165.6μg/L of As in groundwater were effectively removed in approximately 126-bed volumes,and the spent adsorbents were regenerated with 0.01 mol/L Na OH and maintained the adsorption efficiency after four cycles.This study provides a simple and practical route to fabricate adsorbents for water treatment.

Novel bake hardening mechanism for bainite-strengthened complex phase steel

In the automobile industry,stamping and paint baking processes are used to strengthen components,and this not only saves costs,but also further reduces the bodyweight of automobiles.In this work,the bake hardening mechanism of the complex phase(CP)steel CP980 was explored by comparing it with that of DP1180,which has a clear bake hardening mechanism and a carbon content similar to that of CP980.By analyzing the bake hardening response and the microstructural changes of the two steels,we found that the bake hardening process of CP980 was divided into three stages.In the first two stages,the carbon atoms diffused into dislocations to form Cottrell atmosphere pinning dislocations,and excess car-bon atoms formed carbon clusters or low-temperature carbide pinning dislocations that were similar to DP1180.In the third stage,the dislocation acted as rapid channels for carbon diffusion,and fine cementite gradually formed when the carbon clusters gathered at the dislocations as precursors,resulting in pre-cipitation hardening.This novel bake-hardening(BH)mechanism is crucial for obtaining a comprehensive understanding of the strain-baking behavior of advanced high-strength steals(AHSS).

Innovation is the center of the enterprise development, which is the main driving force of enterprises’ competitiveness. To evaluate the enterprises’ innovation ability, we firstly establish an index system which aims at analyzing the enterprise innovation ability. We also retrieve the data of the listed companies in Wind database from 2015 to 2019 and label them using factor analysis method. Then, a new deep learning classificational framework with attention mechanism and LSTM is established. The results show that when attention mechanism and LSTM are added into the convolutional neural network(CNN), the model’s prediction performance is better improved, and the accuracy, recall, precision and F-score are 0.914, 0.914, 0.916 and 0.915, respectively. This indicates the strong generalization ability of our new model. Finally, we also find that patents and R &D expenditures are the most important factor affecting the corporate innovation ability through SHapley Additive exPlanations(SHAP). Companies with more patents and R &D expenditures are generally considered to be more innovative.

At present,the main detection instruments for observing sporadic E(Es)layers are ground-based radars,dense networks of ground-based global navigation satellite system(GNSS)receivers,and GNSS radio occultation,but they cannot capture the whole picture of the horizontal structure of Es layers.This study employs the Whole Atmosphere Community Climate Model with thermosphere and ionosphere eXtension model(WACCM-X 2.1)to derive the horizontal structure of the ion convergence region(HSICR)to explore the shapes of the large-scale Es layers over East Asia for the period from June 1 to August 31,2008.The simulation produced the various shapes of the HSICRs elongated in the northwest-southeast,northeast-southwest,or composed of individual small patches.The close connection between Es layer critical frequency(foEs)and vertical ion convergence indicates that the HSICR is a good candidate for revealing and explaining the horizontal structure of the large-scale Es layers.

Background:Mutational signatures computed from somatic mutations,allow an in-depth understanding of tumorigenesis and may illuminate early prevention strategies.Many studies have shown the regulation effects between somatic mutation and gene expression dysregulation.Methods:We hypothesized that there are potential associations between mutational signature and gene expression.We capitalized upon RNA-seq data to model 49 established mutational signatures in 33 cancer types.Both accuracy and area under the curve were used as performance measures in five-fold cross-validation.Results:A total of 475 models using unconstrained genes,and 112 models using protein-coding genes were selected for future inference purposes.An independent gene expression dataset on lung cancer smoking status was used for validation which achieved over 80%for both accuracy and area under the curve.Conclusion:These results demonstrate that the associations between gene expression and somatic mutations can translate into the associations between gene expression and mutational signatures.

Performance improvement of licklider transmission protocol in complex deep space networks based on parameter optimization

A reasonable parameter configuration helps improve the data transmission performance of the Licklider Transmission Protocol(LTP).Previous research has focused mainly on parameter optimization for LTP in simplified scenarios with one to two hops or multihop scenarios with a custody mechanism of the Bundle Protocol(BP).However,the research results are not applicable to communications in Complex Deep Space Networks(CDSNs)without the custody mechanism of BP that are more suitable for deep space communications with LTP.In this paper,we propose a model of file delivery time for LTP in CDSNs.Based on the model,we propose a Parameter Optimization Design Algorithm for LTP(LTP-PODA)of configuring reasonable parameters for LTP.The results show that the accuracy of the proposed model is at least 6.47%higher than that of the previously established models based on simple scenarios,and the proposed model is more suitable for CDSNs.Moreover,the LTP parameters are optimized by the LTP-PODA algorithm to obtain an optimization plan.Configuring the optimization plan for LTP improves the protocol transmission performance by at least 18.77%compared with configuring the other parameter configuration plans.
