Investigation of formaldehyde sources and its relative emission intensity in shipping channel environment

Formaldehyde(HCHO)is considered one of the most abundant gas-phase carbonyl compounds in the atmosphere,which can be directly emitted through transportation sources.Long-Path Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy(LP-DOAS)was used to observe HCHO in the river channel of Wusong Wharf in Shanghai,China for the whole year of 2019.Due to the impact of ship activity,the annual average HCHO level in the channel is about2.5 times higher than that in the nearby campus environment.To explain the sources of HCHO under different meteorological conditions,the tracer-pair of CO and O_(x)(NO_(2)+O_(3))was used on the clustered air masses.The results of the source appointment show that primary,secondary and background account for 24.14%(3.34±1.19 ppbv),44.78%(6.20±2.04ppbv)and 31.09%(4.31±2.33 ppbv)of the HCHO in the channel when the air masses were from the mixed direction of the city and channel,respectively.By performing background station subtraction at times of high primary HCHO values and resolving the plume peaks,directly emitted HCHO/NO_(2)in the channel environment and plume were determined to be mainly distributed between 0.2 and 0.3.General cargo ships with higher sailing speeds or main engine powers tend to have higher HCHO/NO_(2)levels.With the knowledge of NO_(2)(or NO_(x))emission levels from ships,this study may provide data support for the establishment of HCHO emission factors.

Geochronological and geochemical constraints on the petrogenesis and geodynamic process of Hemler,Vlinder,and Il'ichev seamount lavas in NW Pacific

Oceanic intraplate volcanoes with linear age progressions are usually accepted to be derived from melting of an upwelling mantle plume.Several seamount groups in NW Pacific,however,show complex age-distance relationships that are difficult to explain using the classic“mantle plume hypothesis”,and thus their origins are controversial.In this study,we present ^(40)Ar-^(39)Ar age,geochemical,and Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf isotopic data of lavas from Hemler,Vlinder,and Il’ichev seamounts in NW Pacific,to elucidate their petrogenesis and geodynamic process.The lavas from Hemler,Vlinder,and Il’ichev seamounts are classified as alkali basalt,basanite/nephelinite,and trachyte.Lavas with Mg O>8 wt.%exhibit high contents of CaO,FeO^(T),and TiO_(2),similar to the composition of melts formed from reaction between carbonated eclogite-derived melts and fertile peridotite.These lavas have elevated Zr/Hf ratios(40.6-45.2)and negative Zr and Hf anomalies,indicating the presence of a carbonate component in the mantle source.They are enriched in incompatible trace elements and have enriched mantle 1(EM1)-like SrNd-Pb-Hf isotopic compositions.The isotopic compositions of Vlinder,Il’ichev basanite,and Hemler lavas in this study are similar to the Rarotonga hotspot.Although occurring at the same seamount,the Il’ichev alkali basalts display more depleted SrNd-Hf isotopic compositions compared to Il’ichev basanite.According to plate tectonic reconstruction results,the ages of Hemler(100.1 Ma),Vlinder pre-(100.2 Ma)and post-shield(87.5 Ma),and Il’ichev(56.4 Ma)lavas clearly deviate from the Macdonald,Arago,Rarotonga,and Samoa hotspot tracks,indicating that they cannot directly originate from mantle plumes.We propose that in the mid-Cretaceous,when the Pacific plate passed over Rarotonga hotspot,melting of Rarotonga plume formed the Vlinder(main-shield stage),Pako,and Ioah seamounts.The Rarotonga(and possibly Samoa)plume materials would have been dispersed into the surrounding asthenosphere by mantle convection.These diffuse plume materials would underg

Upregulation of circ0000381 atienuates microglial/macrophage pyroptosis after spinal cord injury

Neuroinflammation exacerbates secondary damage after spinal cord injury, while microglia/macrophage pyroptosis is important to neuroinflammation. Circular RNAs(circRNAs) play a role in the central nervous system. However, the functional role and mechanism of circRNAs in regulating microglia/macrophage pyroptosis after spinal cord injury are still poorly studied. In the present study, we detected microglia/macrophage pyroptosis in a female rat model of spinal cord injury, along with upregulated levels of circ0000381 in the spinal cord. Our further experimental results suggest that circ0000381 may function as a sponge to sequester endogenous microRNA423-3p(miR-423-3p), which can increase the expression of NOD-like receptor 3(NLRP3), a pyroptosis marker. Therefore, upregulation of circ0000381 may be a compensatory change after spinal cord injury to attenuate microglia/macrophage pyroptosis. Indeed, knockdown of circ0000381 expression exacerbated microglia/macrophage pyroptosis. Collectively, our findings provide novel evidence for the upregulation of circ0000381, which may serve as a neuroprotective mechanism to attenuate microglia/macrophage pyroptosis after spinal cord injury. Accordingly, circ0000381 may be a novel therapeutic target for the treatment of spinal cord injury.

A novel graph oversampling framework for node classification in class-imbalanced graphs

Graph neural network(GNN) is a promising method to analyze graphs. Most existing GNNs adopt the class-balanced assumption, which cannot deal with class-imbalanced graphs well. The oversampling technique is effective in alleviating class-imbalanced problems. However, most graph oversampling methods generate synthetic minority nodes and their edges after applying GNNs. They ignore the problem that the representations of the original and synthetic minority nodes are dominated by majority nodes caused by aggregating neighbor information through GNN before oversampling. In this paper, we propose a novel graph oversampling framework, termed distribution alignment-based oversampling for node classification in classimbalanced graphs(named Graph-DAO). Our framework generates synthetic minority nodes before GNN to avoid the dominance of majority nodes caused by message passing in GNNs. Additionally, we introduce a distribution alignment method based on the sum-product network to learn more information about minority nodes. To our best knowledge, it is the first to use the sum-product network to solve the class-imbalanced problem in node classification. A large number of experiments on four real datasets show that our method achieves the optimal results on the node classification task for class-imbalanced graphs.

Kinetic model of vibration screening for granular materials based on biological neural network

The kinetic model is the theoretical basis for optimizing the structure and operation performance of vibration screening devices.In this paper,a biological neurodynamic equation and neural connections were established according to the motion and interaction properties of the material under vibration excitation.The material feeding to the screen and the material passing through apertures were considered as excitatory and inhibitory inputs,respectively,and the generated stable neural activity landscape was used to describe the material distribution on the 2D screen surface.The dynamic process of material vibration screening was simulated using discrete element method(DEM).By comparing the similarity between the material distribution established using biological neural network(BNN)and that obtained using DEM simulation,the optimum coefficients of BNN model under a certain screening parameter were determined,that is,one relationship between the BNN model coefficients and the screening operation parameters was established.Different screening parameters were randomly selected,and the corresponding relationships were established as a database.Then,with straw/grain ratio,aperture diameter,inclination angle,vibration strength in normal and tangential directions as inputs,five independent adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems(ANFIS)were established to predict the optimum BNN model coefficients,respectively.The training results indicated that ANFIS models had good stability and accuracy.The flexibility and adaptability of the proposed BNN method was demonstrated by modeling material distribution under complex feeding conditions such as multiple regions and non-uniform rate.

An effective strategy of constructing multi-metallic oxides of ZnO/ CoNiO_(2)/CoO/C microflowers for improved supercapacitive performance

In this work,a new ZnO/CoNiO_(2)/CoO/C metal oxides composite is prepared by cost-effective hydrothermal method coupled with annealing process under N_(2) atmosphere.Notably,the oxidation-defect annealing environment is conducive to both morphology and component of the composite,which flower-like ZnO/CoNiO_(2)/CoO/C is obtained.Benefited from good chemical stability of ZnO,high energy capacity of CoNiO_(2) and CoO and good conductivity of C,the as-prepared sample shows promising electrochemical behavior,including the specific capacity of 1435 C·g^(-1) at 1 A·g^(-1),capacity retention of 87.3%at 20 A·g^(-1),and cycling stability of 90.5%for 3000 cycles at 5 A·g^(-1),respectively.Furthermore,the prepared ZnO/CoNiO_(2)/CoO/C/NF//AC aqueous hybrid supercapacitors device delivers the best specific energy of 55.9 W·h·kg^(-1) at 850 W·kg^(-1).The results reflect that the as-prepared ZnO/CoNiO_(2)/CoO/C microflowers are considered as high performance electrode materials for supercapacitor,and the strategy mentioned in this paper is benefit to prepare mixed metal oxides composite for energy conversion and storage.

Electromagnetic wave(EMW)absorbing materials have an irreplaceable position in the field of military stealth as well as in the field of electromagnetic pollution control.And in order to cope with the complex electromagnetic environment,the design of multifunctional and multiband high efficiency EMW absorbers remains a tremendous challenge.In this work,we designed a three-dimensional porous structure via the salt melt synthesis strategy to optimize the impedance matching of the absorber.Also,through interfacial engineering,a molybdenum carbide transition layer was introduced between the molybdenum selenide nanoparticles and the three-dimensional porous carbon matrix to improve the absorption behavior of the absorber.The analysis indicates that the number and components of the heterogeneous interfaces have a significant impact on the EMW absorption performance of the absorber due to mechanisms such as interfacial polarization and conduction loss introduced by interfacial engineering.Wherein,the prepared MoSe_(2)/MoC/PNC composites showed excellent EMW absorption performance in C,X,and Ku bands,especially exhibiting a reflection loss of−59.09 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth of 6.96 GHz at 1.9 mm.The coordination between structure and components endows the absorber with strong absorption,broad bandwidth,thin thickness,and multi-frequency absorption characteristics.Remarkably,it can effectively reinforce the marine anticorrosion property of the epoxy resin coating on Q235 steel substrate.This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the relationship between interfacial engineering and the performance of EMW absorbers,and provides a reference for the design of multifunctional,multiband EMW absorption materials.

A genetic variant study of bortezomib-induced peripheral neuropathy in Chinese multiple myeloma patients

Background:Bortezomib results in peripheral neuropathy(PN)in approximately 50%of patients,during multiple myeloma(MM)treatment,a complication known as Bortezomib-induced peripheral neuropathy(BIPN).The drug response varies among individuals.Genetic factor may play an important role in BIPN.Methods:A nextgeneration sequencing(NGS)panel containing 1659 targets from 233 genes was used to identify risk variants for developing BIPN in 204 MM patients who received bortezomib therapy.mRNA expression of MTHFR and ALDH1A1 in 62 peripheral blood samples was detected by real-time quantitative PCR(RT-qPCR).Serum homocysteine(Hcy)levels were detected in 40 samples by chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay(CMIA).Results:Compared with the non-BIPN group(n=89),a total of 8 significantly associated single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)were identified in the BIPN group(n=115):MTHFR(rs1801131,rs1801133,rs17421511),EPHX1(rs1051740),MME(rs2016848),ALDH1A1(rs6151031),HTR7(rs1935349)and CYP2A6(rs8192720).The mRNA expression level of MTHFR in newly diagnosed patients with peripheral neuritis after treatment(NP group)was lower than that of newly diagnosed patients without peripheral neuritis after treatment(NnP group)(1.70±0.77 vs.2.81±0.97,p=0.009).Serum Hcy levels were significantly higher in BIPN group than in non-BIPN group(11.66±1.79μmol/L vs.8.52±3.29μmol/L,p=0.016)and healthy controls(11.66±1.79μmol/L vs.8.55±2.13μmol/L,p≤0.001).Conclusion:CYP2A6,EPHX1,MTHFR,ALDH1A1,HTR7,MME and BIPN are linked in Chinese MM patients.BIPN is more likely to occur in patients with lower MTHFR mRNA expression,which might result in higher serum Hcy levels.

Large porewater exchange reshapes saltmarsh carbon and greenhouse gas budgets on local and global scales

Saltmarshes are carbon-rich ecosystems that play a role in climate regulation by efficiently sequestrating atmospheric CO_(2).Climate change is a major threat to saltmarshes and will impact saltmarsh carbon sequestration.Notably,porewater-derived carbon outwelling emerges as a crucial pathway for carbon sequestration,but it has been largely overlooked in saltmarshes.Here,we assessed the drivers of dissolved carbon exports and greenhouse gas emissions in a saltmarsh and placed those observations into a global context.In our study site,porewater exchange(PEX)was the major process controlling dissolved carbon and greenhouse gas dynamics.Combining our results with 33 other studies in saltmarshes worldwide,porewater-derived carbon fluxes were equivalent to~48% of average global saltmarsh primary productivity and 2.2 times greater than global organic carbon burial.Hence,our local observations and global upscaling demonstrate the major role played by PEX in saltmarsh carbon budgets.While part of dissolved inorganic carbon returns to the atmosphere as CO_(2),the remaining bicarbonate fraction is stored in the ocean over long time scales.Our findings strengthen global blue carbon assessments and build arguments for the use of saltmarshes as nature-based solutions for global climate change.

Gastric cancer secreted miR 214-3p inhibits the anti-angiogenesis effect of apatinib by suppressing ferroptosis in vascular endothelial cells

Diferent from necrosis,apoptosis,autophagy and other forms of cell death,ferroptosis is a mechanism that catalyzes lipid peroxidation of polyunsaturated ftty acids under the action of iron divalent or lipoxygenase,leading to cell death.Apatinib is currently used in the third line standard treatment of advanced gastric cancer,targeting the anti-angiogenesis pathway.However,Apatinib mediated ferroptosis in vascular endothelial cells has not been reported yet.Tumor.secreted exosomes can be taken up into target cells to regulate tumor development,but the mechanism related to vascular endothelial cell ferroptosis has not yet been discovered.Here,we show that exosomes secreted by gastric cancer cells carry miR-214.3p into vascular endothelial cells and directdy target zinc finger protein A20 to negatively regulate ACSL4,a key enzyme of lipid peroxidation during frroptosis thereby inhibiting ferroptosis in vascular endothelial cells and reducing the eficiency of Apatinib.In conclusion,inhibition of miR-214-3p can increase the sensitivity of vascular endothelial cells to Apatinib,thereby promoting the antiangiogenic efect of Apatinib,suggesting a potential combination therapy for advanced gastric cancer.
