Shape- and size-dependent catalysis activities of iron-terephthalic acid metal-organic frameworks

Precise control of the size and morphology of metal-organic frameworks(MOFs) presents an important direction for extending these inorganic-organic materials to many more advanced applications. However, because of the limit of the crystal-growth rule and mechanism, good-control of the size and morphology of MOFs remains challenging. In this contribution, an iron-terephthalic acid metal-organic framework with different shapes(octahedron, spindle and bipyramidal hexagonal) was easily and reproducibly synthesized via a solvothermal method. Sodium acetate and glycerol were used as modulators. Mechanism studies showed that the crystal nucleation rate and orientational growth both play important roles in determining the final shape of the MOFs. Further investigations showed that the as prepared MOFs exhibit shape-dependent catalytic activities, which means that MOFs can be designed to perform different catalytic functions. This investigation not only provides an effective guideline for the precise control of the size and morphology of metal-organic frameworks, but also extends MOFs to much more advanced applications in terms of catalyst chemistry.

1,3-Dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin（DBDMH） was found to be a new and efficient nitrogen/halogen source for the aminobromination of ethyl a-cyanocinnamate derivatives catalyzed by K3PO4. The reaction afforded the aminobrominated products in high yields at room temperature, and the full regiospecificity of all the products were achieved. A possible pathway involving a Michael addition for this aminobromination was suggested.

Glass Forming Ability and Crystallization Kinetics of Cu-Zr-Al-(Y,Ag)Amorphous Alloy

Cu-Zr-Al-（Y, Ag） amorphous alloy ribbons of Cu_（50）Zr_（42）Al_8, Cu_（46）Zr_（47-x）Al_7Y_x（x=2, 5）, Cu_（43）Zr_（42）Al_8Ag_7, and Cu_（43）Zr_（42）Al_8Ag_5Y_2 were prepared using the single roller melt-spinning method. The glass forming ability and non-isothermal crystallization behavior of the amorphous alloys were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction（XRD） and differential scanning calorimetry（DSC） in a continuous heating mode. The experimental results show that the glass forming ability and thermal stability of Cu-Zr-Al amorphous alloys are improved by adding minor amounts of Y and Ag, and the effect of Ag on the glass forming ability is more significant than that of Y. Compared to the Cu_（50）Zr_（42）Al_8 alloy, the width of the supercooled liquid region of the Cu_（46）Zr_（47-x）Al_7Y_x（x =2 and 5） alloys increased by 19 K and 30 K, respectively. The reduced glass transition temperature（Trg） and the parameter γ of the two alloys enhanced separately. Compared to the Cu_（50）Zr_（42）Al_8 alloy, the Trg and γ values of both Cu_（43）Zr_（42）Al_8Ag_7 and Cu_（43）Zr_（42）Al_8Ag_5Y_2 alloys enhanced noticeably up to 0.619, 0.417, and 0.609, 0.412, respectively. The crystallization activation energies of the amorphous alloys calculated by the Kissinger and Flynn Wall Ozawa equations increased with the addition of minor Y and Ag into the Cu_（50）Zr_（42）Al_8 alloy. The addition of Y and Ag significantly improved the thermal stability of the Cu_（50）Zr_（42）Al_8 amorphous alloy.

Microtopographic modification conserves urban wetland water quality by increasing the dissolved oxygen in the wet season

Microtopography affects hydrological processes and forms different *** previous study uncovered that riparian zone microtopography created various microhabitats with different soil environments and runoff-infiltration ***,how riparian microtopography and microtopography within the water area(waterfall and tributary)affects downstream water quality remains ***,water samples were taken almost monthly in both the main stream and the tributary,before and after waterfalls,and near the bottom of three microtopographic types from June 2016 to March *** with the dry season,the fact that water quality worsened in the wet season and that there were positive correlations for nitrate(NO3-)between water and the corresponding soil samples suggested that the riparian-soil environment affected the adjacent water quality mainly in the wet ***,riparian microtopography did not influence water quality downstream because of the low rainfall frequency and the weak leaching process due to plant *** the wet season,both the tributary and the waterfall increased the dissolved oxygen in the water body and,therefore,lowered the risk of *** tributary has two pathways for improving the water quality,by increased disturbance and flow velocity,while the waterfall only has the ***,such effects were not significant in the dry *** conclude that the application of microtopographic modification is useful in maintaining urban wetland water quality in wet seasons.

Vertical distribution characteristics of soil mercury and its formation mechanism in permafrost regions:A case study of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau

Continuing permafrost degradation is increasing the risk of mercury(Hg) exposure in the permafrost regions on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau(QTP),but related studies are still limited,especially the ones on the detailed Hg migration processes in *** vertical distribution characteristics of soil Hg were investigated in three ecosystems in the Beiluhe area on the QTP,and its influencing factors and formation mechanism were *** results indicate that the total soil mercury(THg)concentration in the Beiluhe area remains at an extremely low level(6.33±2.45 ng/g).In the vertical profile,the THg concentration of the shallow soil layer(0-50 cm)(5.96±2.22 ng/g)is significantly lower than that of the deep layer(50-400 cm)(7.44±2.71 ng/g)(p<0.05).Within the upper 50 cm,the THg concentration decreases with soil depth,and the peak THg concentration occurs at 100-300 cm on the entire *** the THg concentration is slightly affected by the organic matter in the shallow soil layer,in general,the soil parent material is the dominant factor affecting the THg *** weathering results in a low THg concentration in the shallow soil layer because the soil Hg is carried downward with the soil *** a certain depth,the impermeable frozen soil layer intercepts the flow of the soil Hg,and it forms a Hg enrichment *** paper presents the distinctive pattern of the soil Hg distribution in the permafrost regions of the QTP.
