Since oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) does not breed true, tissue culture-derived material is the resource of choice for achieving oil palm homogeneity in terms of growth and yield. Currently, no genomic tagging method is available with which one could verify the ortet (tissue donor oil palm) from which the clonal planting material (ramets) origi-nated, particularly in cases of unsatisfactory performance. Thus, Sime Darby Plantation used 10 genomic microsatellite markers to genotype 8 sets of 5 ramets +1 ortet and 2 single ortets. The average genetic distance (D) among oil palms from the same set of ramets and ortet was 0.0000 with the exception of sets containing off-type ramets (D = [0.0834 - 0.1505]). The dendrogram showed that the ramets and their ortet of origin formed a sub-cluster, confirming their simi-larity. The 10 microsatellite markers were valuable to Sime Darby as tools for verification of ramet-to-ortet relation-ships and for the identification of off-types. Furthermore, the set of 10 markers revealed a high expected heterozygosity (He = 0.634) that is a high expected heterosis effect on which yield depends.

8-hydroxyquinoline(8-HQ)intercalated layered double hydroxides(LDH)film as underlayer and sol-gel layer was combined for active corrosion protection of the AM60B magnesium *** LDH,LDH/sol-gel,and LDH@HQ/sol-gel coatings were analyzed using the scanning electron microscopy(SEM),field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM),energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS),X-ray diffraction(XRD),atomic force microscopy(AFM),and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)*** SEM images showed that the surface was entirely coated by the LDH film composed of vertically-grown *** same morphology was observed for the LDH/sol-gel and LDH@HQ/sol-gel ***,almost the same topography was observed for both composite coatings except that the LDH@HQ/sol-gel coating had relatively higher surface *** the LDH film had the same impedance behavior as the alloy sample in 3.5wt%NaCl solution,its corrosion resistance was much higher,which could be due to its barrier properties as well as to the trap-ping of the chloride *** to the LDH film,the corrosion resistance of the LDH/sol-gel composite diminished with increasing the ex-posure ***,its values were much higher than that of the LDH film,which was mainly related to the sealing of the solution *** LDH@HQ/sol-gel composite showed much better anti-corrosion properties than the LDH/sol-gel coating due to the adsorption of the 8-HQ on the damaged areas through the complexation.

Text visualization is concerned with the representation of text in a graphicalform to facilitate comprehension of large textual data. Its aim is to improve the ability tounderstand and utilize the wealth of text-based information available. An essential task inany scientific research is the study and review of previous works in the specified domain,a process that is referred to as the literature survey process. This process involves theidentification of prior work and evaluating its relevance to the research question. With theenormous number of published studies available online in digital form, this becomes acumbersome task for the researcher. This paper presents the design and implementationof a tool that aims to facilitate this process by identifying relevant work and suggestingclusters of articles by conceptual modeling, thus providing different options that enablethe researcher to visualize a large number of articles in a graphical easy-to-analyze *** tool helps the researcher in analyzing and synthesizing the literature and building aconceptual understanding of the designated research area. The evaluation of the toolshows that researchers have found it useful and that it supported the process of relevantwork analysis given a specific research question, and 70% of the evaluators of the toolfound it very useful.

Trees species have different effects on soil properties and nutrients. Plantation as a management strategy for soil productivity retention and the prevention of destruction can be effective in the continuity of forest productivity. After 21 years, the effects of the maple(Acer velutinum Bioss.), oak(Quercus castaneifolia C. A. Mey.), and red pine(Pinus brutia Ten.) stands on soil fertility were assessed in the Sari region(northern Iran). Soil was sampled at depths of 0-10, 10-20, 20-30, and 30-40 cm at all stands using a core soil sampler with an 81 cm2 cross section. Soil texture, pH, organic carbon(C), total nitrogen(N), available phosphorus(P), potassium(K), calcium(Ca), and magnesium(Mg) for all samples were measured in the laboratory. Our findings showed that the planted stands significantly affected soil physicochemical properties. Statistical comparisons revealed that the highest and lowest levels of N, P, K, Ca, and Mg in soil occurred in the maple and red pine stands, respectively. Measurements of soil fertility showed that fertility decreased in relation to increased soil depth, with significant differences depending on soil depth. Our results suggest that to rehabilitate degraded natural forests, at least in northern Iran, the plantation of suitable native broad-leaved species can be recommended for forestation plan management.

Flat plate air collector is a type of heat exchanger which absorbs radiated solar energy and exchanges it to *** to low efficiency of this type of collectors,a suitable approach is investigated in this paper so as to increase thermal performance of the *** efficiency of solar collector for two models C1(without fins)and C2(with fins)both of 1 m^2 surface area with forced convection flow is studied theoretically and *** fins are attached over back board in air channel to create turbulence in air *** order to measure air temperature,17 thermal sensors(LM35)are exploited,among which 11 were mounted on absorber plate and the remaining 6 on the back *** design of experimental model are performed in Solidwork and programming of theoretical work in Matlab *** this research,a fan with constant mass flow rate of 0.033 kg/s is utilized for producing air *** indicate that applying fins in air channel not only reduces Nusselt number from 19.67 to 16.23,but also due to decreasing hydraulic diameter and creating air flow turbulence,causes increase of heat transfer coefficient from absorber plate to air flow and consequently reduction of total heat loss and higher outlet air *** difference of outlet air temperature between experimental and theoretical results for both collectors(C1 and C2)was recorded respectively as 7.6% and 9.4%.Thermal efficiency was respectively calculated 30% and 51% for experimental types with and without fins and 33% and 55% for those of theoretical work which generally seem reasonable.

Parameter identification is a key requirement in the field of automated control of unmanned excavators （UEs）. Furthermore, the UE operates in unstructured, often hazardous environments, and requires a robust parameter identification scheme for field applications. This paper presents the results of a research study on parameter identification for UE. Three identification methods, the Newton-Raphson method, the generalized Newton method, and the least squares method are used and compared for prediction accuracy, robustness to noise and computational speed. The techniques are used to identify the link parameters （mass, inertia, and length） and friction coefficients of the full-scale UE. Using experimental data from a full-scale field UE, the values of link parameters and the friction coefficient are identified. Some of the identified parameters are compared with measured physical values. Furthermore, the joint torques and positions computed by the proposed model using the identified parameters are validated against measured data. The comparison shows that both the Newton-Raphson method and the generalized Newton method are better in terms of prediction accuracy. The Newton-Raphson method is computationally efficient and has potential for real time application, but the generalized Newton method is slightly more robust to measurement noise. The experimental data were obtained in collaboration with QinetiQ Ltd.

Catalytic effect of SrTiO_3 on the hydrogen storage behaviour of MgH_2

The effects of Sr TiO_3 on the hydrogen storage properties of MgH_2 have been studied for the first *** onset dehydrogenation temperature of the MgH_2-10 wt% SrTiO_3 is found to be 275 ℃, which is 55 ℃ lower as compared to the as-milled MgH_2. The composite is able to absorb 4.3 wt% of hydrogen in 60 min instead of 1.1 wt% for the as-milled Mg H_2. Meanwhile, the composite is able to release 5.3 wt% of hydrogen in 17 min compared to 1.9 wt% by the as-milled Mg H_2 at 320 ℃. The calculated Eaof the Mg H_2-10 wt% SrTiO_3 is 109 k J/mol, which is 26.3 kJ/mol lower than the calculated Eaof the as-milled MgH_2. The Sr TiO_3 is not decomposed during the ball milling and the re/dehydrogenation processes. The catalytic effect shown by the SrTiO_3 is owing to its ability to change the physical structure of the MgH_2 particles during the ball milling process.

The modeling of distillation column process is a very challenging problem because of the complex dynamic *** paper investigates a Nonlinear Autoregressive Moving Average with eXogenous input(NARMAX)model,and a Hammerstein model to approximate the evolution of the overhead temperature in a separation *** model development and validation are studied through experiments carried out on a distillation plant of laboratory *** model order selection criteria such as Aikeke’s Information Criterion(AIC),Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)and Nash–Sutcliffe Efficiency(NSE)are used to evaluate the prediction performance of the process *** results illustrate that both models produce acceptable predictions but the NARMAX model outperforms the Hammerstein model.

Beech stands are considered part of the ancient forest ecosystems in the northern *** mixed stands in beach forest ecosystems,the type of associated tree species can signifi cantly aff ect soil functions,but their infl uence on microbial activity,nutrient cycling and belowground properties is ***,we considered forest patches in northern Iran that are dominated by diff erent tree species:Fagus orientalis Lipsky,Quercus castaneifolia ***.,Pterocarya fraxinifolia(Lam.),Tilia begonifolia Stev.,Zelkova carpinifolia Dippe,Acer cappadocicum Gled,Acer velutinum Boiss.,Fraxinus excelsior L.,Carpinus betulus L.,and Alnus subcordata *** each forest patch–tree species,litter and soil samples(25×25×10 cm,100 of each)were analyzed for determine soil and litter properties and their relationship with tree *** litter decomposition rate during a 1-year experiment was also determined.A PCA showed a clear diff erence between selected litter and soil characteristics among tree ***,***,***,***,***,***,and *** enhanced soil microbial biomass of carbon,whereas patches with ***,*** and *** had faster litter decomposition and enhanced biotic activities and C and N ***,soil function indicators were species-specifi c in the mixed beech ***(a N-fi xing species),*** and *** were main drivers of microbial activities related to nutrient cycling in the old-growth beech forest.

In this paper, the problem of hybrid model predictive control(HMPC) strategy based on fuzzy supervisor for piecewise autoregressive with exogenous input(PWARX) models is addressed. We first represent the nonlinear behavior of the system with a PWARX model. Then, we transform the obtained PWARX model into a mixed logical dynamic(MLD) model in order to apply the proposed predictive control which is able to stabilize such systems along desired reference trajectories while satisfying operating ***, we propose to introduce a fuzzy supervisor allowing the readjustment of the HMPC tuning parameters in order to maintain the desired performance. Simulation and experimental results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
