Assessing Farmers’ Perception of Soil Erosion Risk in Northern Jordan

Socioeconomic factors and farmer’s perception of soil erosion and conservation were examined with special reference to Wadi Kufranja catchment, northern Jordan. Field data were collected through a household field survey, and soil erosion loss was calculated and mapped using the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE), within a GIS/RS environment. In-situ field measurements of soil erosion were also conducted to assess splash, sheet and runoff soil erosion. The estimated potential average annual soil loss is 10 ton·ha-1 year for the watershed. 42.1% (5317. 23 ha) of the watershed area was estimated to have moderate soil loss (5 - 25 ton·ha-1·years -1). Soil erosion risk is severe to extreme over 31.2% (3940.56 ha) of the catchment, whereas the calculated soil loss is 25 - 50 and >50 ton·ha-1·year-1. The measured sheet and splash soil erosion in W. Kufranja was 10 ton·ha-1·year-1 from tillage land, and 3 ton·ha-1·year-1 from the fallow land, with an average ranges from 8 to 10 ton·ha-1·year-1. Similarly, the maximum measured soil erosion on the eastern margin of W. Kufranja was 12.7 ton·ha-1·year-1, while the minimum soil erosion was 2.9 ton·ha-1·year-1. The collected household socioeconomic/conservation data have been subjected to multivariate statistical analysis. Through factor analysis, the twenty one variables were reduced into four significant factors which account for 69.7% of the variation in the original variable. Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that the total variance explained by three independent variables was 0.585 (R = 0.765, R2 = 0.585). Out of the total variance, forest clearance explained 34.7%, fallow land 7.7%, and land use/land cover 16.1% respectively. The F-value for forest clearance, fallow land, and land use/land cover are significant at 0.1% level. Detection of bacterial biofilm in uterine of repeat breeder dairy cows

Objective:To determine the possibility of presence of bacterial biofilm in the uterus of repeat breeder cows and to evaluate the effect of mucolytic agent in cleanup of uterus from biofilm. Methods: Twenty repeat breeder cows were selected from a large commercial dairy farm near Shiraz, Fars province, southern Iran. Uterine secretion samples were collected before and after uterine lavage with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) 10% solution and periodic acid Schiff (PAS) staining was used to detect bacterial biofilm in uterine samples. After sampling, all cows were treated with two doses of PGF2 and intrauterine infusion of Cefquinome sulphate. Artificial insemination (AI) was performed after ***: Bacterial biofilms were found in 12 out of 20 animals (60%) in the first sampling with sterile saline lavage (before DMSO) and in 7 cows (35%) after DMSO lavage. Fourteen cows (70%) became pregnant after AI. This evidence showed the presence of bacterial biofilm in the uterus of dairy cows for the first time. Although non-significant, decrease in biofilm detection after DMSO lavage may suggest the potential ability of mucolytic agent for cleaning the uterus from bacterial biofilm. Also, high pregnancy rate after antibiotic treatment in the present study might be attributed to improved effect of antibiotic following lavage of uterine by ***:These findings should be investigated in future researches with more sample size.

Increasing Microstrip Patch Antenna Bandwidth by Inserting Ground Slots

Microstrip patch antenna (MPA) is widely implemented in different communication systems. One of the main disadvantages of MPA which limits its applications is its narrow bandwidth. In this paper I enhanced the bandwidth of MPA by inserting multiple slots in its ground plane. I used FR-4 substrate to design this antenna. The dimensions of this antenna are 59 mm and 79 mm. The dielectric constant is 4.4 and the height is 1.6 mm. I inserted up to 15 slots in ground plane with 1mm width. The spacing between slots is 3 mm. I investigated two designs. In the first design, slots were arranged in parallel to the feeding line. In the second one, slots were arranged horizontally to the feeding line. The main objective of this paper is to design and simulate MPA suitable for wide number of applications. Antenna bandwidth improvement is 18%. All the simulations were obtained by using HFSS simulator.

Bicuspid Aortic Valve Disease in Turner Syndrome: A Meta-Analysis of Prevalence

Turner syndrome patients partially or completely lack the X chromosome. 1 - 2500 female live births are affected. Clinical features include webbed neck, short stature, broad chest etc. Bicuspid aortic valve disease (BAV) occurs in more than 30% of Turner syndrome patients causing significant morbidity and mortality. We aimed to establish a more reliable estimate of the prevalence of BAV in Turner syndrome. PubMed, Embase and PsycINFO databases were searched until 2022. Review Manager (RevMan 5.4.1) and the JASP software (0.16.00) were used for meta-analysis. 15 studies with a total of 3189 patients were combined. The pooled prevalence of BAV in Turner syndrome was 22.0% (95% CI: 15.0% - 29.0%). Sub group analysis by 45, X0 karyotype and age had prevalence of 24.0% and 8% respectively. The studies had high heterogeneity and possible publication biases. In summary, the study established that the prevalence of BAV in Turner syndrome patients diagnosed by echocardiogram, CT and MRI scans, is 22.0%, and 24% in patients with true monosomy 45, X0 karyotypes. Routine BAV exam should pay particular attention to monosomy 45, X0 karyotype patients, and where possible, CT and MRI should always accompany echocardiography for BAV screening, especially for pediatrics.

Study the Physical, Chemical, Mineralogical, and Geo-technical Properties of Soils Used in Pottery Industries, Kurdistan-lraq

The study area is located in Duhok and Sulaimania province in Kurdistan region, lraq. Study soils developed from parent material that has derived from limestone. Randomize, composed and disturbed surface soil samples were collected. The bulk soils were air dried, crushed and passed through 2 mm sieve. Standard methods were used for chemical, physical, geotechnical and mineralogical analyses of soil samples. The results indicated that the study soils texture were clay to loam clay, this texture was considered as suitable for ceramic and pottery industries as a result of increasing clay contents that ranged between 301 g/kg and 676 g/kg. Soil consistence depending on geotechnical properties increased the ability of study soils for resistance rapture and deformation. Existence the high amount of cementing agents in study soils such as organic matter, iron oxides and particularly total carbonate （247.2-308.8 g/kg） act to reduce the bad effect of the smectite minerals group （high shrinkage） in soils of study locations through increasing the resistance of these soils for rupture and deformation. The existing of Kaolinite, palygorskite and chlorite allows clay to be dried in ceramic and pottery industries without cracking from shrinkage. Study soils were different in their colors as a result of existence, different pigmentation materials that led to coloring soils with different colors in turn caused coloring of pottery and ceramic materials. Since, there are no available academic studies or researches about this subject in Kurdistan region in addition the clay pottery and ceramic sector still has a good market at the same time using this type of soils for arts, therefore, this study was conducted.

We report a rapid method for synthesis of zeolitic imidazolate framework 8(ZIF-8)-decorated graphene oxide(GO)composites(ZGO)with good antibacterial *** ZGO composites were synthesized at room temperature with low GO to metal salt *** samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction,transmission electron microscopy,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,thermal gravimetric analysis,and surface area *** characterization results show that ZIF-8 with a size of approximately 120 nm is successfully decorated on the surface of GO sheets with the host ZIF-8 framework maintained in the synthesized composite,but there is a significant reduction in the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface *** antibacterial activities of the samples against Escherichia coli ATCC 11229 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 as model strains of gram-negative and-positive bacteria,respectively,were determined by disc diffusion and minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)***-1.0(1 wt%of ratio of GO to metal salt)shows the highest antibacterial activity with MIC values required to inhibit bacterial growth of *** and *** of 5 times lower than those of pristine *** antibacterial mechanisms are proposed based on field-emission scanning electron microscope images of the two bacteria after contact with the synthesized ***,owing to the simple synthesis,good stability,low chemical usage,and excellent antibacterial activity of the ZGO composites,they show great potential for application in the field of microbial contamination control.

Assessment of Groundwater Quality in the Gaza Strip, Palestine Using GIS Mapping

A Geographical Information System (GIS) tool was used to construct thematic maps for groundwater quality in the Gaza Strip. Environmental data were integrated and an overall picture about the spatial variation in the groundwater quality of the Gaza Strip was defined. The integrated spatial maps helped to refine information on land use, soil types, depth to groundwater table, environmental “hot spots”, and contaminant concentra-tions of the study area. The groundwater quality maps have been derived from the results of an eight-year monitoring program for major anions, cations and heavy metals. An environmental hot-spots map was de-rived from potential contaminating sources, showed direct and indirect influences on groundwater quality. The GIS maps showed not only contaminant distributions but also illustrated the need to improve the groundwater quality management methods. Several contaminants pose great problems in the water of Gaza. Integration of water data and GIS maps for all parameters revealed that there is probably no drinking water in Gaza according to the WHO standards. Moreover, the new maps of 2008 could be used as base-line for water planners and policy makers as well as guidelines for the Palestinian people to manage and protect their groundwater. Increased water demand from population and economic growth, environmental needs, land use changes, urbanization, groundwater mining, deterioration of water quality, pollution from local and diffuse sources, environmental hot-spots and impacts on public heath and ecosystems are all factors that can create a severe water quality crisis as well as water shortage problems.

大多数农村女性是个体小农户，她们是主要的食品生产者，而且在确保粮食安全这一地区性减贫战略上有重大作用，但她们的努力面临着许多障碍,限制着她们发展成为更好的农民、食品供应商、生产商和企业家。该研究通过女性的受教育水平、获得资源和技术的情况、农场规模和农业的投入等变量评估妇女个体小农户的约束，以确保作为一项减贫战略的家庭层面的粮食安全。这项研究将为社会识别妇女个体小农户努力提供有益的信息。在保障粮食安全和改善家庭生计方面，为妇女个体小农户创造有利环境，确保家庭都有固定的食物和良好的生活条件。本文主要采用规范研究与实证研究相结合的方法，在系统回顾粮食安全相关理论和国内外研究文献基础上，分析了妇女个体小农户在保证以食品生产，国内事务和非养殖创收活动为基础的家庭粮食安全中所扮演的角色。以坦桑尼亚莫罗戈罗地区Kilosa区获取的222家妇女个体小农户为样本，在理论分析的基础上使用logistic模型分析在确保粮食安全中制约妇女个体小农户的变量，得到了主要的影响因素。最后提出了对策和建议。 Logistic回归分析结果显示：农场规模，家庭规模，现代技术水平特别是灌溉服务和农业技术推广/培训，获得农业投入如种子、化肥及农药，获得资源如土地和资本五个变量在5％的水平上是显著的。粮食仓储设施和粮食生产的成本均在10％的水平（p<0.1）显著，而妇女个体小农户参加农村合作组并不显著。妇女作为该地区主要的食品生产商正面临着一系列障碍。由于妇女个体小农户不参与养殖，她们很大比例（约80％）的劳动力用于农业生产活动;她们参加当地的食品加工活动，并做几乎所有的家务活，但她们缺乏获得顺利进行农业生产活动潜在服务的路径。因此，为了减少妇女个体小农户在这方面的障碍，政府与公共和私营发展部门必须支持并整合短期和长期发展的举措，确保她们有机会获得现代灌溉技术服务、培训和教育、资本和信贷、土地、劳动力、市场，加强对农业的投入如改良的种子和化肥，创造有利的环境给农民，同时必须确保政策的有效实施。

Synthesis, Crystal Structure and Characterization of a New Dihydrogenomonophosphate: (C7H9N2O)H2PO4

Chemical preparation, X-ray single-crystal, thermal behavior, and IR spectroscopy investigations are given for a new organic cation dihydrogenomonophosphate (C7H9N2O)H2PO4 (denoted ABHP) in the solid state. This compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n. The unit cell dimensions are: a = 11.011(5) Å, b = 5.861(1) Å, c = 15.944(4) Å and β = 100.81(5) with V = 1010.7(6) Å3 and Z = 4. The structure has been solved using direct method and refined to a reliability R factor of 0.048. The atomic arrangement can be described as inorganic clusters [H4P2O8]2- anions between which are located the organic dimmers (C14H18N4O2)2+ through multiple hydrogen bonds (Figure 1)

Does endothelium agree with the concept of idiopathic hepatic vessel thrombosis?

AIM： To investigate the major steps of thrombogenesis and to identify the differences in these steps between idiopathic patient group and control group. METHODS： Fibrinogenesis was studied by measuring the activated factor Ⅶ, total and free levels of tissue factor pathway inhibitor （TFPI）. The fibrinolysis step was investigated by determining the global fibrinolytic capacity. The endothelial function was assessed by measuring the levels of soluble adhesion molecules, namely soluble intercellular adhesion molecule 1 （sICAM-1）, soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 （sVCAM-1） and soluble E-selectin molecule. The exclusion criteria from ＂idiopat- hic＂ patient group were abdominal surgery, pregnancy, use of oral contraceptives, anti-phospholipid syndrome, Behet＇s disease, cancer, myeloproliferative diseases. The congenital factors like mutations of factor-Ⅴ Leiden and prothrombin, deficiencies of proteins C and S, antithrombin, hyperhomocysteinemia and hyperfibrinogenemia were ruled out. The total number of patients was reduced from 96 to 9 （7 with portal vein thrombosis, 2 Budd Chiari syndrome） by exclusion criteria. RESULTS： The levels of adhesion molecules sICAM-1, sVCAM-1, free TFPI levels and global fibrinolytic capacity were significantly different （P〈 0.05） in the patient group indicating an endothelial dysfunction and a lower fibrinolytic activity. CONCLUSION： These results show that this patient group should be tested by means of endothelial dysfunction and managed differently.
