Antimicrobial and Catalytic Activities of Green Synthesized Silver Nanoparticles Using Bay Laurel (<i>Laurus nobilis</i>) Leaves Extract

In this study, bay laurel extract (BLE) used as a reducing and capping agent for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The green-prepared AgNPs investigated using UV-visible spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX) and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Formation of AgNPs monitored at ambient temperature by a change in color from the starting solution to dark brown. Green synthesis AgNps were investigated for antimicrobial activity. The microorganisms employed were E. coli, K. pneumoniae, B. cereus, S. aureus, C. lbicans and Aspergillus. The susceptibility of microorganisms against the six AgNPs solutions was determined using the disk diffusion method. The catalytic activity of the prepared AgNPs (sample, d) for basic brown 1 dye was investigated. The results showed the characteristic surface plasmon resonance peak of the AgNPs appeared at approximately 415 - 440 nm. XRD revealed peaks at 38.2, 44.16, 64.24 and 77.22 Ɵ, and the intensity of these peaks enhanced when using microwave curing compared to ambient temperature. SEM and TEM results showed that the silver nano particles have a spherical shape and the particle size for samples is less than 34 nm. FTIR spectroscopy measurements showed the binding of organic compounds on the surface of the silver nanoparticles. Highest antibacterial activity was enhanced with increasing of AgNPs dose and with increasing of extract ration against most of microorganisms except. Removal of basic brown 1 dye by the prepared AgNPs indicated complete dye removal after 8 h.

Design, Fabrication and Experimentation of a Deep Drawing Machine

This paper presents the work implemented in designing, fabricating and operating a model of a cheap hydraulic DDM （deep drawing machine）, which is currently utilized in the manufacturing processes lab in the IED （Industrial Engineering Department） at An-Najah National University. The machine is used to conduct different experiments related to the deep drawing process. This work was implemented in three stages： the first was the design stage, in which all design calculations of the DDM elements were completed based on the specifications of the product （cup） to be drawn; the second was the construction stage, in which the DDM elements were fabricated and assembled at the engineering workshops of the university; the last was the operating and experimentation stage, in which the DDM was tested by conducting different experiments. The experience gained from designing and constructing such a mechanical lab equipment was found to be successful in terms of obtaining practical results that agree with those available in literature, cost-effective relative to the cost of a similar purchased equipment, as well as enhancing students＇ abilities in understanding the deep drawing process in particular and machine elements design concepts in general.

Conflict in Yemen and its impacts on China’s interests in the region

The conflict in Yemen,which has been going on for 8 years,has great repercussions for Yemen and the entire ***’s strategic position has made it a key player in a crucial area that influences energy supplies,and international shipping routes,as well as a point of contact between Asia,Africa,and ***,the area’s greatest economic partner and largest importer of oil,was one of those affected,particularly with the announcement of the Chinese BRI and its massive projects in the *** pro-longed conflict in Yemen has hampered Chinese investments and the construction of several key and strategic BRI projects in Yemen,as well as jeopardising many of its mega projects in the *** also posed a new threat to the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden’s sea routes,as well as the establishment of new military bases in strategic areas capable of controlling international trade routes and intensifying military rivalry in the region.

Extraction of Buried Signals in Noise: Correlated Processes

In this paper, we propose extraction of signals correlated with noise in which they are buried. Proposed extraction method uses no a-priori information on the buried signal and works independently of the nature of noise, correlated or not with the signal, colored or white, Gaussian or not, and locations of its spectral extent. Extraction of buried correlated signals is achieved without averaging in the time or frequency domain.

GIS-Based Factorial Ecology and Social Public Space of the Twin City of Ramallah and Al-Bireh, West Bank, The Palestinian Authority

In the present research, a factorial ecological approach using factor analysis was employed to evaluate the dimensionality of the urban social structure of the twin city: Ramallah and Al-Bireh, West Bank, the Palestinian Authority. Through factor analysis, the 41 variables were reduced to four factors with an eigenvalue > 1.0. These factors explain 77.07 percent of the total variables used in the study. Factor I contributes 28.419% of the total variance proportion of input variables, labeled as “family, housing, and public spaces factor”. Factor II accounts for 19.57% of the variance proportion, designated as” housing and urban public spaces”. Factor III is strongly correlated with variables referring to the characteristics of the head of the family, and the availability of public spaces, and thus, is designated as “head of the family and public spaces”. It explains 16.68% of the total variance. Finally, factor IV explains 12.406% of variance proportion, and is strongly associated with variables pertaining to a lack of public social spaces. Consequently, factor IV is termed “lack of public spaces”. The spatial distribution of factor scores related to factors I to IV was mapped using Arc GIS in order to analyze the spatial patterns of the recognized four factors. It is worth noting the factor IV, which refers to the lack of urban social space and, urban public space, which persists in the twin city, and will continue to persist in the future. The lack of urban open space and public social spaces is closely connected to migration, emerged housing pattern, and family status dimensions focused on factors I to III, continuous confiscation of the Palestinian lands, and the construction of Israeli settlements. Currently, the twin city is extremely overcrowded with stone/concrete buildings at the expense of public space which has declined continuously over the last three decades. Impact of Rapid Urbanization and Changing Housing Patterns on Urban Open Public Spaces of Amman, Jordan: A GIS and RS Perspective

Rapid urbanization and population growth of the Amman Area were combined with land resource degradation when the city was heading for mounting urbanization from the early 1950s. The deterioration of natural resources and green areas, was coupled with the creation of different urban public open spaces in the city. The transformation from large single-family houses to dense residential apartments was associated with social and behavioral changes among the inhabitants living in the dense apartments. Consequently, a large private sector has been developed to provide public and social spaces. Photo-interpretation and satellite images were used to map and characterize land use/cover changes have been occurred in the Amman area between 1953 and 2017. Maximum Likelihood Classification method was employed to identify land use/cover changes between 1986 and 20017, and GIS was utilized also to map examples of the recently emerged socio-economic open spaces. Excessive urban development in the last two decades, and the adoption of neo-liberal privatization policies by the government, enhanced social stratification and residential segregation. So, instead of encouraging outdoor activity and social interaction among all groups of Amman residents, the freedom of accessibility to major open spaces has been restricted within the same urban fabric, thus, the “two Ammans” paradigm, a “tale of two cities”, has been recently acknowledged.

The Influence of Translation on the Arabic Sentence Structure:Electronic Journalism as a Model

This study investigates the influence of translation from English on the Arabic ***,it attempts to study how the translation of English auxiliary verbs influences the syntactic structure of the Arabic sentence and how the English predicating structure affects that of *** study is qualitative in *** data of this study were based on the language of electronic journalism in Jordan as a model.A sample from two popular news agencies in the Jordanian electronic media was *** study reveals that the translation of English auxiliary verbs has influenced the syntactic structure of the Arabic ***,the study indicates that the influence of the English auxiliary verb on Arabic caused the passive form to die out from the actual use of the Arabic *** study also reveals a change in the predicating structure of the Arabic ***,the study shows a change in the deictic indication of some of the demonstratives used in Arabic sentence structures.

GIS-Based Morphometric Analysis of Fourth-Order Sub-Basins of the Zerqa River (Northern Jordan) Using Multivariate Statistical Techniques

The present study attempts to examine the morphometric characteristics and relationships of 43 fourth-order sub-basins over the Zerqa River watershed, using ASTER DEM, GIS and multivariate statistics. To achieve these objectives, Principal Component Analysis was utilized to reduce the 26 parameters into six major components which accounted for 79.3% of the total variance explained by the original morphometric variables. Hierarchical Cluster Analysis (CA) (Ward’s method) has been applied to classify the 43 sub-basins based on different types of morphometric parameters. Four groups of sub-watersheds were identified and characterized by different morphometric properties. The patterns of spatial distribution of cluster groups were determined based on lithological, structure and tectonics, uplifting, and rejuvenation processes.

A Triplet-Branch Convolutional Neural Network for Part-Based Gait Recognition

Intelligent vision-based surveillance systems are designed to deal with the gigantic volume of videos captured in a particular environment to perform the interpretation of scenes in form of detection,tracking,monitoring,behavioral analysis,and *** addition to that,another evolving way of surveillance systems in a particular environment is human gait-based *** the existing research,several methodological frameworks are designed to use deep learning and traditional methods,nevertheless,the accuracies of these methods drop substantially when they are subjected to covariate *** covariate variables disrupt the gait features and hence the recognition of subjects becomes *** handle these issues,a region-based triplet-branch Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)is proposed in this research that is focused on different parts of the human Gait Energy Image(GEI)including the head,legs,and body separately to classify the subjects,and later on,the final identification of subjects is decided by probability-based majority voting ***,to enhance the feature extraction and draw the discriminative features,we have added soft attention layers on each branch to generate the soft attention *** proposed model is validated on the CASIA-B database and findings indicate that part-based learning through triplet-branch CNN shows good performance of 72.98%under covariate conditions as well as also outperforms single-branch CNN models.
